Through the Interdimensional Rift

The blue police box floated high above the planet Earth. This box was home to The Doctor, a thousand-year-old Time Lord sworn to protect the earth until his last breath, but now he was starting to reconsider his vow. He had defended earth for centuries with the help of the planet’s inhabitants. Lately, because of recent events, he had realized that him intruding on his companions’ lives had caused them many problems. Some had died, some had been trapped in alternate dimensions, and worse. His most recent companions had been displaced in time and space right before his eyes. “Maybe it would be best if I didn’t get involved with Earth’s problems as much.” He thought as he sat in a comfy chair with a book he had been reading.

He flipped through the pages lazily until he reached the final page. Before he could read a single word, he instinctively ripped it out of the book, crumpled it up, and tossed it behind him. This was one of the many eccentricities that the Doctor’s eleventh incarnation had. He hated endings and by ripping out the last pages of his books, he believed that the adventure would never have to end. Of course he knew that wasn’t the case, but old habits die hard for the Doctor.

Suddenly, the Doctor heard an alarm go off in the Tardis console room. “What is it this time?” The Doctor wondered aloud. He walked into a huge room filled with many strange machines and instruments and a large glowing pillar in the middle. A large screen was flashing alien symbols and complicated graphs that an average human could never hope to understand. The graphics were quite comprehensible to the Doctor, however. “An interdimensional rift!” he exclaimed. “I haven’t seen one of these babies in ages! And it’s only several million light-years away!” A smile returned to the Time Lord’s face as he danced around the central console pushing buttons and pulling levers. “I don’t have any plans right now, so I might as well go see it. Do some research. Take in the view. Just go to get it close enough.” The Doctor chuckled to himself as he pulled one last lever. The Tardis emitted a groan as it began to shake. “Geronimo!” the Doctor Shouted as The blue box began hurtling through time and space.

Derpy walked slowly down the road that lead to her house just outside of Ponyville. Today had been a particularly bad day for the grey pegasus. She was called into her boss’s office this afternoon to discuss the latest in a string of accidents she had made on the job. He had told her the moving company couldn’t afford to keep her on if she couldn’t stop dropping things. Derpy had been involved in similar incidents, but dropping a piano on the town’s librarian was the last straw. She had to be let go. Derpy sighed sadly as she looked up at the sky. “Why did I have to be so clumsy?” she wondered aloud. Out of the corner of her eye, Derpy saw a strange fire ball fall from the sky into the woods near Derpy’s house. “It’s too early for shooting stars.” Derpy thought. “I wonder what that was. I hope nopony got hurt.” Derpy, being the curious pony she was, ran in the direction the object fell. After running a few minutes, Derpy came across a bizarre blue box laying on its side, smoke billowing out of an open door in the box. “Hello? Is everypony alright?” Derpy asked as she cautiously inched toward the smoking box. Derpy stumbled backwards when a brown stallion wearing an oversized coat and a bowtie crawled out of the box and fell unconscious at her hooves.

Muffins in Bed

The Doctor’s eyes fluttered open. He felt weak, disoriented, and a tiny bit hungry. He looked around in confusion. He had awoken in a comfortable bed in a sparsely decorated room. It was probably a guest bedroom from the look of it. Several questions flooded his mind. Where was he? Whose house was he in? What happened to the Tardis? Why did he smell muffins? The Doctor rolled over in bed and saw his sonic screwdriver laying on the bed side table. He reached out to grab it but he merely nudged off the table on to the floor. The Doctor groaned as he watched the cylindrical device roll under the bed. Suddenly, the Doctor’s focus shifted to his hands. More specifically to the fact they were missing and had been replaced with hooves. The Doctor suppressed a scream as he touched his face with his hooves. Memories flooded back to him. While investigating the interdimensional rift, he had gotten too close and was sucked into it. The Tardis must have not been able to take the massive amount of turbulence in the rift and crashed landed where ever he was. During the crash he must have regenerated into a horse or something. The Doctor wasn’t a stranger to the bizarre, but this had to be one of the strangest things to happen to him. Just then, the door opened, and a grey mare entered, a tray of muffins balanced on her back.
“Oh, good!” She said cheerfully. “You woke up! I was worried. You were unconscious all last night.”
“Thank you for everything, miss.” The Doctor said trying to sound nonchalant. “But, if I beg your pardon you are a small horse and you are talking.”
Derpy smiled and rolled her eyes “I notice.” She replied sarcastically. “And so are you.”
“This is normal here?” he asked.
“Yes, all ponies talk here in Equestria.” Derpy said. “You sure are asking a lot of silly questions. Did you hit your head when you crashed your box into that tree?”
The Doctor Chuckled. “I’m fine now, but I probably will be asking a lot more questions. I’m not really from around here.”
“Oh, ok.” Derpy said scrunching up her nose. “By the way you can call me Derpy Hooves.” She said. As she laid the tray of muffins on the bed. “I thought you might be hungry. So I uh, baked you some muffins” Derpy added with a blush.
The Doctor gave a small smile. “Thank you, Miss Derpy, These will be just what I need. And I am called the Doctor.” "Nice to meet you Mr. Doctor!" Derpy said cheerfully.
The Doctor devoured several muffins quickly much to Derpy's surprise. "Delicious." the Doctor said wiping crumbs from his mouth. "I was a lot hungrier than I thought. My metabolism is working overtime due to the energy loss from my regeneration. Luckily that is the only side effect this time. That and I'm a pony now..."
Derpy stared blankly at the strange stallion. "Those are some really big words." She thought. "Well I'm glad you're ok, and that you like my muffins!" Derpy said.
"Thank you for your hospitality, Miss Derpy." The Doctor said sliding out of the bed. "I need to be going." The Doctor's legs wobbled as he took a couple steps forward. "Four legs. Need to get used to that..." he muttered.

Meanwhile, In Filleydelphia, two unicorn guards patrolled the streets. "Looks like Everypony's evacuated." The first guard said.

"Let's do another round just in case." the second replied.

The two marched in silence as they looked at the rubble that filled the street. "Dear Celestia, what happened here?" The first guard asked.

"I dunno, Silver Spear," The second answer. "Some sort of monster must have been through here."

"But we haven't seen anything around here." Silver Spear said. "You'd think a monster capable of this level of destruction would be easy to spot, eh Warding Shield?"

Warding Shield nodded. "Hey, we haven't checked this house yet." he said pointing to a boarded up house.
The two guards flanked the door and slowly opened the door and entered. The house was dark and almost completely empty.

"Anypony home?" Silver called into the dark "This is the Equestrian Guard. We are here to get you out of the city until this disaster is resolved." There was no reply. the two advanced through the house until they saw the silhouette of a pony crumpled on the floor quivering.

"Ma'am, everything is going to be ok. we are here to save you." Warding Shield. The pony was silent. The guards stepped closer and used their horns to shine light on the pony. The two gasped in horror as they saw that the pony was covered in a swarm of multicolored, winged insects. The insects dispersed from the body revealing only bones. The guards brandished their spears as they backed away. The swarm emitted a high pitched buzz and rushed the guards. They screamed in horror as countless parasprites enveloped their bodies.

The Doctor walked through the woods slowly. He was still getting used to his new body, but his main concern was to find his Tardis so he could return to his own dimension. He didn't belong here and he had no idea how his presence in "Equestria" would affect things. "It should be around here somewhere." He mumbled. Granted the Doctor had been unconscious when the Tardis crashed, he still had a vague Idea that the Tardis couldn't be too far from the nice mare's home. When the Doctor finally found the Tardis it was laying on its side by a tree. It didn't seem to have taken any exterior damage but he would have to investigate the interior to full assess the damage.

The Doctor groaned as he struggled to tilt the Tardis upright. It was a difficult feat but he managed to do it. Before the Doctor could enter the Tardis he heard a rustling behind him. "Stealth isn't your strong suit, Miss Derpy. “The Doctor said not turning around. Derpy slowly came out of the bush she was hiding in. "Why did you follow me?" The Doctor asked

"You left this at my house." Derpy said handing the Doctor a long cylindrical object. "I have no idea what it is, but it looks important." She said.

"My sonic screwdriver. Thank you for returning that to me." The Doctor replied. "However, I have a feeling that's not the only reason you followed me."

Derpy blushed. It was like he could see right into her mind. "Um yeah..." Derpy stammered. "I was just curious is all. I wanted to learn more about you and see where you are going in such a hurry. You aren't like anypony I’ve ever met. Just who are you?"

The Doctor frowned. He knew where this was going. He'd explain everything to her, and She’d want to travel with him. Eventually something terrible would happen to drive them apart, leaving him sad and alone again. He was not going to let that happen again. "Me? I'm just the Doctor." the Doctor said quietly.

"Doctor who?" Derpy asked.

The Doctor cringed internally at the question. It was the question he was asked the most, yet he never fully answered the question. "I am the Doctor, a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey." The Doctor said almost automatically. "I am over a thousand years old and have been traveling through space and time for most of my life. I'm not from this world, and I must find a way back to where I belong."

Derpy tilted her head to the side. "You look like a normal pony to me." she said incredulously.

The Doctor rolled his eyes. "I don't have time for this." He whispered as he entered the Tardis.

The Tardis interior was lit more dimly than usual. The Doctor suspected that the Tardis had automatically switched to auxiliary power so the main power supply could be used to repair the damage caused by the trip through the dimensional rift. The Doctor approached the console. "Looks like I'm not going to be getting too far for a while." The Doctor said looking at various gages and indicators on the control panel. "By the time the Tardis returns to full power, the rift could very well be closed." The Doctor spun around when he heard a voice behind him.

"Wow!" Derpy exclaimed as she looked about in wonder. "How'd you fit a whole spaceship in this box? And what's a Tardis?"

"Great! Now she's in the Tardis! She's practically my companion already." The Doctor thought. "Well, this is the Tardis." the Doctor explained. It stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space. It's how I travel in time and space."

"So you can go anywhere in the universe?" Derpy asked excitedly.

"Normally, Yes," The Doctor explained. "but it looks like I'm stuck in this Equestria place for a while."

"Oh..." Derpy said a little bit of disappointment in her voice. Suddenly a smile lit up her face. "Well, since you're stuck here and you're new here and all, Why don't I show you around Ponyville?"

"Well, I think I can explore this place on my own..." The Doctor began.

"C'mon! This way will be more fun!" Derpy said. "Besides, maybe this way you'll stop acting all grumpy."

"I'm not always this grumpy..." The Doctor mumbled as Derpy dragged him by the hoof through the Tardis doors.
