The Cute Part
In retrospect, maybe bringing Sonata to a classy restaurant hadn’t been the best idea. Of course, Aria wasn’t about to tell her that.
“Uh, Sonata? You’ve got a little…” She chuckled, pointing to her own face to show Sonata where she’d left some dipping sauce. The ditzy siren, unable to pinpoint the sauce, resorted to licking all around her mouth. “Heh, you got it.”
“Thanks, Aria!”
“You know you’re only supposed to eat a few of those chips, right?”
“Wait, really?” Sonata looked absolutely stunned, making Aria snort with laughter. “Am I gonna be in trouble?!”
“I mean, those are an appetizer.” Aria grabbed one and ate it to conclude her sentence. “Wow, these are actually pretty good.”
“Ahem.” Aria and Sonata turned their heads to see that their waiter was finally here. “I hope you two are enjoying your evening?”
“Yep!” Sonata replied giddily, and the waiter smiled.
“Very good. My name is Monsieur Velvet, and I will be your waiter this evening.” He quickly placed two menus on the table, and began reading off the specials to them. Nothing sounded too good to either of the sirens, though.
“I think we’ll just take a look at the menu, thanks.”
“In that case, may I take your drink orders?” Monsieur Velvet pulled out a pen and pad, and the two quickly made their choices. The waiter made his way off to the kitchen, and the two turned back towards each other.
“I think I already know what you’re going to--”
“Whoa! They have taco salad, Aria!” Sonata sounded a bit too excited, and Aria laughed. Slamming her menu down, Sonata looked back up at her. “What are you gonna get?”
“Probably just a hamburger,” she shrugged. She was never one for the ‘fancy’ foods that Adagio seemed to prefer. They were basically just the crappy parts of the good food, and that sickened her. “There’s not much on the menu that looks very appetizing.”
On cue, their waiter had returned with their drinks. Aria took a small sip from hers, while Sonata gulped down nearly half of it within seconds.
“Uh, you thirsty?” Aria snickered at the pleased expression plastered across Sonata’s face. When she didn’t reply, Aria turned back to the waiter. “We’re ready to order.”
“Excellent. What will you be having, miss?”
“I’ll just have the house special hamburger with fries, no pickles, with swiss cheese.”
“Very good. And for you?” He tilted his head towards Sonata.
“I’ll just have a taco salad!”
“A fine choice. If you need anything, don’t be afraid to holler,” Monsieur joked, getting a few chuckles from the two. His pad made a smack sound as he shut it, and he was off to the kitchen.
“So why’d we even come here if we were just gonna get fast food, Ari?”
“I thought you… might like the atmosphere,” she finished sheepishly, making Sonata giggle. “Oh, shut up…” Aria looked away, embarrassed, only to feel a bit of pressure on her hand. Looking down at the table, she saw that Sonata had clasped it in her own.
“Oh, Aria, don’t worry. As long as I’m with you, it’ll be the best date ever!”
And it was. At least, as far as Sonata was concerned. The food was great, and talking with Aria was just the best. They had talked about school, the new friends they made, and best of all, each other. But before either of them knew it, the check had come, and it was time to leave.
“Don’t worry, Sonata, I’ll get it.” Aria smiled, something she only seemed to do around Sonata these days. “So I had an idea for where we should go next.”
“Is it… the fair?” Sonata guessed.
“Darn it, you ruined the surprise. How did you even know that?”
“I saw an ad for it outside,” Sonata giggled, and Aria rolled her eyes.
“You’re just the worst…” Aria joked as she opened her wallet, grabbed a few twenties, and threw them down onto the table. “Alright, let’s go.”
“Yippee!”
“Wow, the fair is a lot bigger this year.” The last time they had gone, it hadn’t even been half the size it was now. There were roller coasters, a drop tower, and even... “Whoa, they’ve even got a ferris wheel, Sonata. Sonata?”
Sonata was no longer by Aria, but it only took a few seconds of looking around to find her. Sighing, Aria walked over to what she knew was going to be a waste of her money.
“Aria, look! They have a stuffed piggie!”
“Sonata, you can’t win at these games, the animals all have weights in them.”
“But if I knock down the piggie, I could get it!”
Aria could do little more than smack her hand against her face, defeated. “Ugh, fine! Here’s five dollars, but you better win!”
“Whee!” Sonata squealed, slamming the five dollars down on the counter.
“Alright, miss, you get three shots. Knock down an animal and it’s yours,” the booth owner smirked. This was rigged, and Aria knew it, but Sonata would never accept that. Her first shot, of course, hit the pig directly. The pig, of course, didn’t budge an inch. Another throw ended in the same result, and Aria groaned.
“Sonata, give me the ball.”
“But I can do it, Aria!” She pouted. Aria wasn’t having any of it, though, and her arm remained outstretched, palm open. With a sigh, Sonata relinquished the ball. Grinning, Aria turned to face the stand. Her target wasn’t the pig, though. As soon as she threw the ball, she knew it would hit its mark, and it did, colliding with one of the posts holding up the shelf. The post broke off from the impact, and the entire shelf collapsed to the floor, animals falling everywhere.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but you said if we knocked down an animal, it was ours. Well those,” Aria pointed at the stuffed toys with a shit-eating grin, “are all ours.”
“Y-you-- You can’t ju--”
“I’m afraid I can,” Aria laughed. “Sonata, help me grab all of these animals.”
“Hooray!”
“That was a fun date!” Sonata exclaimed once they were back inside their apartment. Aria’s response was to pull her close and lock lips with her. As the kiss grew more passionate, Sonata could feel herself melting away. When Aria finally pulled back and saw the goofy grin on her lover’s face, she laughed. Laughter that stopped abruptly when Sonata grabbed Aria’s hand and began pulling her towards her bedroom, almost tipping her over in the process.
“Whoa!”
As soon as the two were in Sonata’s room, Aria promptly locked the door. “And it’s about to get even more fun.”
