He Is Dave

It was a nice Saturday in the city of our focus. The day was sunny and clear, the streets were full of people and the mall was entirely flooded with them. The mall was a place where you could find lots and lots of different merchandise such as clothing, food, souvenirs, more clothing and a octopus trapped in a snow globe.

In a souvenir store, there was a collection of snow globes from all around the world. Inside one of this globes there was a octopus. A living octopus. His name was Dave.

Dave had a really long story. He used to live at a zoo in New York. There, life in his opinion was good. Roomy tank, great location, monkey house view and of course, his adoring legions of fans. He was the octopus of a thousand tricks, the total package. Until they've arrived and took everything from him. Four adorable baby penguins. With them around no one wanted a octopus anymore so he got moved to another zoo. But the same thing happened, over and over, at zoo after aquarium. Adorable penguins stole the show while Dave was avoided, forgotten, unwanted, alone. To him this was awful. From that period he came to realize some creatures are born to get all the love. The rest get nothing. The only thing that has kept him going for all these years was his burning thirst for revenge. After seeing that the was being abandoned, Dave decided to have his vengeance on the penguins. He abandoned his post at the zoo and used the superior mind he was gifted with to learn science. He disguised himself as doctor Octavius Brine, who became known among the humans as a renowned geneticist, cheese enthusiast and frequent donor to N.P.R. pledge drives. He hired a crew of octopuses and built himself a submarine laboratory where he developed for years his doom's-day weapon, the Medusa Serum. After this serum was done, Dave started kidnapping the penguins from the zoos he lived in.
After gathering all the penguins, Dave shot them with his Medusa Serum, turning them into monsters and unleashing them on the streets of New York, hoping that the exterminators will handle them. Unfortunately for him, four penguins, Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico, found a way to reverse the ray and turned all the penguins back to normal. As a secondary effect, Dave was shrunk and trapped inside a snow globe.

Now, Dave was once again alone, with his hate and desire for revenge on the penguins, waiting to be sold.

Meanwhile, three teenage girls were wondering the mall.

''That was the worst movie I've ever seen! I can't believe that we've paid to see that!'' one of them started to complain.

''Well, I can't believe we've paid for something!'' continued one with a remarkably puffy hair in a irritated voice. ''I really miss my powers!''

''Hey! It's your fault that we've lost our powers Adagio! If it weren't for you and your stupid plan we wouldn't have needed to care about money! Now, we have to work to ensure our existence in this stupid world along with these... these... bugs!'' continued the one that started the discussion.

''Aria, you know that my plan was good! The only reason for which it failed is because that cowards took us by surprise. I couldn't have known about Sunset Shimmer so stop throwing the blame on me!'' replied Adagio in a monotone voice.

Suddenly, one of them got her attention caught by a specific store.

''Dagi! Dagi! Dagi! Can we go to that store? Please! Please! Please!'' she said in her usual enthusiastic voice pulling Adagio's hand like a excited child.

Adagio looked at the store to which the girl pulling her hand was pointing. She looked at the girl begging her and that rolled her eyes.

''Sonata, you know that we're low on money! We can't simply walk in shops and take whatever we want anymore. We have to save what we have."

Sonata widened her eyes and tried again to convince her friend.

''Please Dagi!''

Adagio sighed.

To Sonata, this was the common approval from Adagio (not to be mistaken with the ''Sonata, you are an idiot!'' sigh). She than ran to the shop, forgetting about the girl whose hand she was still holding. Aria was following them, though at a much slower speed, seeming to have a little bit of joy at the sight of Adagio being dragged at a high speed.

Sonata and the poor entity behind her entered the shop. In a moment of relief from Sonata, Adagio managed to pull her hand out of her grip. She than rubbed her wrist.

''Firm like a rock! Right Adagio?'' said Aria with irony.

''Shut up Aria!''

Sonata was wondering through the store like a fish, swimming in a coral reef. Her attention was jumping from an object to another. She continued her blind quest as she explored the shop.

Dave was watching the human but did nothing. He was used to have people simply passing by so he didn't really care much.

It was when Sonata turned her attention to the snow globe collection that Dave began having hopes of finally escaping his glass prison.

''Common! Pick the octopus! Every girl wants an octopus!'' tried Dave to convince the human, even though he knew couldn't communicate with her without a translation device.

Sonata than spotted the globe in which Dave was trapped in. At first, she didn't notice the octopus that was waving at her, thinking that it was part of the ornament but than, she realized that it was a living octopus. She picked up the globe and started to study it.

''Hey, Aria! Come check this out!" she called.

''Yes, that's a snow globe Sonata.'' said Aria with disinterest for the item.

"I know silly! Look closer!''

"Is that an octopus inside there?"

Aria than approached her eye to the globe for a closer look.

''There's a living octopus inside the snow globe.'' she continued trying to understand what she just said.

''Aw Aria! Can we buy it? I've always wanted a pet!"

Dave was starting to have hopes.

''No.''

''Why not?''

''Because you're dumb and you put in your mouth.''

''Common Aria! I will take good care of this one!''

''Sonata, last time we gave you some pet fish you ate them all a few minutes after. People like you are not meant to have pets.''

Dave froze.

''You know that I thought they were food!''

''Sonata, neon fish are not food in this world."

''How was I supposed to know? We were top predators back in Equestria. We were eating everything small enough to be an easy prey."

Once again, Dave had a sentiment transition. This time, from terror to confusion.

''If this was a ordinary fish, I wouldn't have cared but who knows? This octopus might be venomous.''

"Octopuses can't be venomous."

"Yes, they can."

"What do you know about octopuses?"

"More than you!"

Sonata than slapped Aria's nose.

"Do not!"

In return, Aria slapped her hair.

"Do two!"

"Are these two idiots really the ones who will decide if I am to live or die?" started Dave to think with loud voice, almost indifferent to the situation.

"And what motive of dispute do you have now I wonder?" said Adagio while approaching the other two.

"Adagio, are octopuses venomous?" asked Sonata.

As the two girls were waiting for an answer, Adagio slapped her face.

"And how... Just how in Equestria did you two started to argue over this?"

"Well, we've found this octopus in this snow globe and than I've asked Aria if we can buy it. She said that not because she thinks that I will try to eat it and that this octopus is venomous and might kill me. So are octopuses venomous or not?"

It took Adagio a little time to comprehend what Sonata just said.

"Wait... There's an octopus in the snow globe?" she finally asked.

"Yes." both Aria and Sonata answered at the same time.

"That's it! I'm out!" Adagio declared.

"So, can we buy it Aria?" asked Sonata again.

"Fine! But I'm not feeding it!"

The two than payed the price for the globe and followed Adagio as Dave was wondering what was going to happen to him.

The Little Siren

The three girls left the mall and were on their way to their home. Sonata was still staring at her new octopus. Aria was sometimes giving Dave quick looks. Adagio on the other hand was not paying attention to him. In fact, she wasn't paying to much attention to anything. She was still fighting with the thought that she and her sisters were defeated. Although she was not showing it, probably out of ambition, she felt shattered, like her pendent. Her magic, the only thing that she had left from her long gone home (beside her two companions) was now lost.

Now, she could no longer call herself a siren. She no longer saw anything in herself that would remind her of her original form anymore. Now, the only thing that Adagio could see in a mirror was a human.

She hated this form. To her it was a prison much worse than this world. A prison that was bounding her to stay on land and taking her aquatic affinity away. She could still swim of course but not in the way that she wanted. Now, she could no longer go deep underwater and swim for entire hours like in Equestria. Now, she was constantly felling crushed between the force of gravity and the ground beneath her new body parts called ''feet''.

She hated the fact that she lost her voice. It was not only helping her relax but it was also very useful especially during her first days of banishment. With it, they could get whatever they wanted from anyone. All they needed to do was sing. Without this power she might have never had a chance to even survive in this world. But that was also taken from her. Now she had to work side by side with her sisters to earn their bread. Work was a new concept to her. And she hated it.

But most of all, she hated the ponies. She hated the wizard that banished her here in the first place and she hated the Rainbooms that made her punishment more painful.

''What name do you think I should give him Aria?'' asked Sonata braking the silence.

''I don't know Sonata. It's your octopus not mine so I don't care!'' she replied with boredom.

"Now that I think about it, how am I going to give him a name if I don't know if he is a boy or a girl?"

Dave was listening to his new ''mistress" arguing over his name.

"God! What have I done to deserve this? Is genocide attempt really that bad!?" he said to himself.

The three and their octopus arrived at their home. It was a fairly large house painted in yellow and having a red roof. It even had a swimming pool in the back yard. A generous "gift" from the previous owner. It was a very wise move from them to claim their own property instead of staying at a hotel.

Interesting! From what I've heard they lived alone. How could three teenage girls have the money to buy a palace like this? thought Dave as they were getting closer to the house.

Adagio pulled a key out of her purse and unlocked the door. The moment she opened it Sonata rushed to her room.

"Do you think we should see that she doesn't hurt herself with that thing?" Aria asked.

"Aw, Aria! You're so kind to do that! Now, if you excuse me, I'l go watch some TV." replied Adagio while sitting on a couch and opening the TV.

Aria sighed.

She than walked upstairs to Sonata's room. In this time Sonata was filling up a fish tank.

"Hey Aria!" she started in her cheerful voice. "I finally figured out what name I should give him! I'm going to call him Bubblegum!"

"Weren't you saying that you couldn't name him because you can't tell if it is male or female?" Aria asked.

"Well, since I can't tell if it is a boy or a girl, I've decided to give it a name both a boys and girls can have!" explained Sonata proud of her decision.

"You are a exemplary pet owner!" Aria declared.

Sonata finished filling Dave's tank.

"Now, Aria, how are we going to open this thing?" asked Sonata while trying to open the snow globe, shaking Dave in the process.

"I don't know. How about a hammer."

Dave once again felt terrified. You know... Liberty is a pretty overrated concept! I think I can last here a little more! he thought.

Sonata left the room and started searching for a hammer in the house. Aria was looking at the artificial ornaments in the tank with some sort of nostalgia.

"It's been so long since I was living in the oceans of Equestria! I can still remember when I was sinking ships, hearing sailors imploring me to spare their existence, making them warship me and than drowning or eating them! Old times..." she declared while the memories were carrying her away.

Dave was listening to her "memories". At first he was somewhat theorizing that the girls might be insane but their overall behavior seemed normal, to normal for them to be mad. This was the second time she claimed to be a sea monster, a mermaid by the looks of the description. And this was the second time she mentioned this place called "Equestria". Dave did some research in geography at his time but never encountered a place called "Equestria". Ok, he did encountered a equitation club in Bucharest called Equestria but it couldn't be the same place (Unless the Romanians are secretly training an army of mermaids to try taking over the oceans.).

Sonata reentered the room holding a hammer in her hand. She than approached the snow globe and prepared to hit it with all her force.

"Wait! Are you mad! There are going to be glass bits allover the place!" rushed Aria to stop her. She than took the hammer from Sonata's hand. "You need to hit it gently!"

Saved by a woman's care for furniture... declared Dave.

She than started to hit the snow globe. The sound of the hammer hitting the glass was more than annoying for Dave but it was a acceptable price for liberty. The glass finally cracked and the hammer breached the glass prison.

Meanwhile, Adagio was sitting on her couch, watching a documentary.

"As you can see, the sardines stand no chance against the sailfish. This top predator is the fastest fish in the ocean, and his impressive tracking skills make it almost impossible to escape from."

Pfff! My flipper looks far better than his! And that nose... thought Adagio before hearing a braking sound from upstairs.

Hm... I should go see if they haven't hurt themselves with the glass! And the couch was so comfy... she thought before lifting her body from the couch with a sigh.

After braking the glass, Aria putted Dave in the tank. Sonata was watching as her octopus was sitting on a ornamental sunken ship.

Finally free! Or at least free-er considering that I'm in another tank. Now, all I need to do is wait until the idiots fall asleep, find a phone, contact my boys and I'l be back in business in no time! thought Dave while rubbing two of his tentacles one to another.

Meanwhile, Sonata was putting some small shrimp slices she had left from the previous pets into the aquarium

"Aww! Isn't it cute, Aria? It's small and squishy, just like Dagi's chest!" said Sonata.

Aria started laughing like she rarely laughed. After calming down a little she started talking trough her tears.

"Sonata, it's clear that Adagio's chest is as flat as your brain but how do you know it's squishy?" tried Aria to tease Sonata.

"Because I've touched it! Or more accurately it touched me." responded Sonata without seeing Aria's insult.

Aria froze.

"Wait... When did this happen and... Why?"

"Remember the first night we've spent in this world when we've slept at that hotel with the two beds?"

"Um... Yes, I remember. We've flipped the coin to see who takes the single person bed. Sonata... Is Adagio abusing you? If yes, than don't be afraid to tell me!" said Aria in a worried tone.

"What? Of course not silly! Adagio is awesome! What makes you think she would abuse me?"

"But... You've said... Wait! Are you two doing wired things while I'm not watching you?"

"Aria, what is wrong with you today? Maybe that movie we saw scared you. As I was saying, remember our first night in this world?"

"Yes. What about it?"

"Well, that night I couldn't really sleep well, but Adagio could, so she fell asleep before me. Meanwhile, you were sleeping in your bed, looking very satisfied by the fact that you got to sleep alone. Around midnight, Adagio started having a wired dream and she started hugging me."

"What was she dreaming about?"

"I dreamed about my mother." explained Adagio who was leaning against the room's open door.

Aria felt a little bit of Adagio's pain but she decided to jerk a little on the subject.

"Aww! Little Dagi is missing her momy? Would you like a hug from Aria to make you feel better?"

Without her noticing, Adagio casually came closer to Aria than, suddenly grabbed her throat.

"Remember that pot of water we have in the kitchen, the one that I keep in a steady, slow boil, next to the butter and limes?" she calmly asked her.

"Yeah?" replied Aria while gasping for air.

After seeing the fear she wanted, Adagio released Aria.

"Good! Because I'm hungry. Aria, would you please be a darling and cook us some salmon? Thank you!" she said in a sister tone than left the room.

Sonata than followed her.

"But Dagi you've promised me we were going to tell Aria to cook tacos!"

"And you've promised me you won't tell Aria about that!"

"But I've forgot!"

"Well, if you forget promises again, I'l force that octopus of yours down your throat!"

Than, all three girls went downstairs.

Sure! Blame your sister's octopus for her revealing secrets about your sleep habits! thought Dave who was now getting used to the three teenagers. Although... Maybe I should ask these three a few questions when I get the chance! There is something fishy about them.
