The Crystal Empire: One thousand years ago.

Luna opened her eyes slowly on the snowy landscape, feeling the wounds of the battle affect her. The crystal capital being nowhere to be found, only she and her sister remained after their battle against the tyrant king.

“Sister,” Luna fully stood up once Celestia walked to her side “What happened to the empire?”

“It’s…” They both stared at the endless snowy landscape “It’s gone.” She leaned down to her, embracing her younger sister into a hug in which she returned.

“Those poor ponies…” They stood in the embrace of the other for a few moments, a pang on the younger sister’s mind made her break away and look over at a faint red glow she could see in the distance behind her older sister.

She made way to the glow while Celestia called out for her and followed after her, the glow increased the more they got closer. Luna was able to make out some sort of sword shape coming from the glow, something on the back of the lunar regent mind’s told her that something is not right and to turn away with their bittersweet victory over Sombra. But she kept on going.

The solar regent noticing the sword-like weapon fell silent, following after her younger sister wondering if Sombra made another failsafe should he fail. Wasn’t it enough with cursing and taking the Crystal Empire with him enough?

Once they got close enough the glow grew weak enough for them to see weapon more clearly, they stopped to look at it closely startled while their bad feelings grew. The weapon was a giant sword with flesh filling the blunt side of the blade and an eye at the base of the hilt. It glowed eerily while the tip is stuck on the snow.

“What… what kind of abomination is this?” Luna recoiled back slightly as the sword’s glow increased slightly.

“Humph, such ill mannered mare you are.” A deep gruff male voice accompanied with echo spoke back. Making the sister look around the area for the owner of the voice “In front of you.”

“Huh?” Celestia turned her attention to the sword “You’re sentient?”

“Yes, I appreciate that you took care of that fool Sombra. He had no idea what he was getting into. Lost and crazed into the darkness.”

“Why were you here?” Luna stepped forward.

“He wanted to keep me all to himself so no one uses my power against him.” He rolled his only eye groaning.

“Yes, that wicked energy emanating from you isn’t meant for just anyone.” Celestia eyed the sword carefully.

“Took the words right out of my… voice.” The sword’s voice coughed slightly “But yes, indeed my power is not just for anyone. While I bestow massive power, anyone who dares to use me runs the danger of becoming corrupted and insane. Not to mention I can manifest in different weapon shapes.”

The sisters became shocked at hearing this information, without saying a word they both agree on not letting something as dangerous as this be left out in here.

“I see that you won’t be swayed away so easily to my corruption, so it would be fitting for you to take me away. I don’t want to give my power to an idiot.”

They looked at eachother confused, it was quite unusual for something like this to happen but it makes things easier. Nodding to between them the lunar regent lights up her horn, surrounding her aura around the sword’s handle and drawing it out of the snow as she brought it closer receiving a blink from the sword’s eye.

The sword’s aura faded away as it was drawn, fading away the feeling that creeped on the sister’s heads as well “I thank you, I will decrease my power so it doesn’t affect anyone.”

“Why are you doing this?” Celestia arched an eyebrow looking at the sword quizzically.

“Let’s say I just want a break, that’s all.”

That was also something unusual, seems that this cursed object is full of surprises. The sword’s eye looks down in the snow, looking down at the ice buried below it.

“Sombra’s sealed deep within the ice, along with the empire.” Luna told him with sadness in her voice.

“I see, that is some madness and power right there. More madness than anything.” He chuckled as the eye closed momentarily at that “Excuse me if my sense of humor is messed up at times, I just found it funny for some reason.”

“No worries,” Luna rested the sword’s fleshy side on her back, putting the opened eye part on her coat earning an ‘ow’ from him “Sorry.”

“No worries.” He blinked a few times as the two alicorns began to take flight.

“Say,” Celestia spoke up to him “Do you have a name?”

“A name?” He looked at the older sister in which she nodded back at him “Hmmm, I have been given a name. It is the earliest memory I can recall of myself, I am named Soul Edge.”

6 months later.

Luna walked through the halls of the castle, looking at the long line of ponies headed towards the day court as usual. Huffing past the subjects who didn’t recognize her presence, no use in trying to talk to them either.

She had thought about going back to her room to either cry in her pillow over being neglected by everypony she knew, or to trash some stuff in her room to cover them up as accidents and replacing them. But there was someone who she could talk to.

The lunar alicorn changed her destination to the guard’s training grounds, the captain keeping them in good condition and sparring with the others. The guards stopped to give a bow to Luna once she appeared on the sidelines, urging them to continue as she spotted Soul Edge rested on a bench.

“Hey, do you have a minute?” She approaches him taking a seat at his side.

“All of them in the world,” Soul Edge looked at her with a relaxed tone “What is it?”

“Um… how are you liking Equestria?”

“A lot better than I imagined, it is serene and peaceful. It is the break I needed.”

“But don’t you feel a bit lonely?”

“Nah, not really. But that’s not what you came here to talk about, didn’t you?”

Luna flinches, hanging her head head and exhaling “No, it is not. It’s about my sister.”

If Soul Edge had eyebrows, he would be raising one of them to her. But he was stuck with just staring at her.

“Everypony always loves her and her sun, playing around doing fun stuff in the light of her day while she gets praised all the time. Me?” She felts her eyes watering before she wiped her eyes “As much as me and my night get ignored, it’s always Celestia who gets all the love, she was always the favorite perfect little angel.” She finished that sentence with a hint of venom in her tone, but no one else was able to hear it.

Soul Edge has sensed a growing darkness forming deep within the lunar alicorn, even her eyes showed hatred and contempt just by mentioning her. Neither this was seen despite it being pretty obvious to see.

“Have you tried talking to her about it?” He suggested.

“I did, she always says she’s busy.” She scoffed in return.

“Hmm, that is troubling.” Soul Edge half closed his eye in thought “Let’s just go to sleep for now, we’ll figure something out later. Right now I would like some rest.”

“That doesn’t sound like a bad idea actually.” She nodded taking the sword on her magic, both of them saying their goodbyes to the guards as they retreated to Luna’s room.

Little did they know that the night of that day will be an experience that will change Equestria for centuries to come.
