Twilight Sparkle watches Lucky Star

View Online

It was a beautiful day in Ponyville. It was a dark and stormy night It was a beautiful stormy day in Ponyville. The rain reflected off the crystal castle on the edge of town, blissfully drenching any passing ponies. Ponies milled around the damp dirt roads, idly chatting and going about their daily business with their umbrellas over their heads. One lavender unicorn alicorn in particular was pacing anxiously by her door, waiting impatiently for a very "important" package.

"Delivery for Princess Twilight Sparkle!" Derpy called, ringing the doorbell to the crystal castle. "One DVD of-"

"Thank you, Derpy!" Twilight said, quickly taking the package upon opening the door.

"Sign here," Derpy said cheerfully, holding out a clipboard and pen, which Twilight took to sign her name. "Thank you very much for choosing Ponyville's mail services! Have a nice day!"

"Thank you, Derpy," Twilight giggled. "I can't wait to watch this!" After Derpy left, Twilight closed the castle door and trotted into the other room to put the DVD into the player. The menu screen came up on the crystal television the Tree of Harmony was kind enough to provide, and picked up the crystal remote with her magic, clicking the buttons until episode 1 began playing.

"Hey, Twilight! Can I watch?" Spike asked, suddenly walking into the room, causing Twilight to suddenly pause the high-pitched voices singing.

"Um, sure, Spike," Twilight answered, though a bit unsurely. She pressed the play button, causing the theme song to continue. "Honestly, how does she manage to be so athletic with all that hair...?" Twilight muttered in response to Konata, whose blue hair reached her ankles, managed to break a track record. "Do they really find it necessary to have a seven-minute conversation about food?!" As Konata, Miyuki, and Tsukasa seriously did talk about food for seven minutes.

"Twilight, could you be quiet?" Spike asked. "I can't hear the dialogue..."

Twilight didn't seem to hear him, however. "Honestly, she's so lazy but so swift; why isn't anime more like real life?"

"Because it's anime-"

"And these characters are so one-dimensional; just anime character stereotypes!"

"Twi-"

"And their voices are kind of annoying, Konata and Kagami's are so nasally! And Miyuki and Tsukasa sound like they're whispering!"

"But Twilight-"

"And honestly, this episode has no plot at all! It's just-!"

"Twilight!" Spike finally interrupted.

"Er, yes, Spike?" Twilight asked sheepishly, her cheeks turning slightly red.

"If you're going to criticize it like that, then just don't watch it," Spike chided, turning back to the screen to continue watching. "It's a slice of life anime; it's supposed to be like normal life!"

"Sorry about that, got a little carried away..." Twilight muttered. "Let's... just watch it."

"Thank you," Spike said, focusing back on the girly shojo characters.

And what's with this little bit at the end? Anime makes no sense at all!

Spike, oblivious to Twilight's harsh thoughts, just continued laughing at the many shojo-ish jokes.

Rainbow Dash watches D. Gray-Colt

View Online

It was a gloomy day in Ponyville. The weather team had moved clouds around to mostly cover the sky, causing most ponies to stay at home lazily. One rainbow-maned pegasus, however, was on her somehow existent cloud computer, going onto Chia-anime.com.

"Urgh, I can't believe they took D. Gray-Colt off of Hoofflix..." She muttered to herself, clicking the 'dub' button. "I'm just glad I'm able to watch it here." She clicked on episode 8, since she'd left off on episode 7. She waited a moment for the theme song, then the "camera" closed in on the Black Order headquarters. The episode title read "The Black Order Annihilation Incident", which made RD's eyes widen (little did she know she'd soon be laughing her head off). She continued watching, as the main character, a gray pegasus named Allen, talking to another pony, a lavender pegasus with greenish hair, and the scene switched to the scientists and Komui, who had made a robot called "Sir Komlin II". Rainbow Dash began to smile as the robot went kuku after drinking coffee, and before she knew what happened, the robot was after the main character while Komui was trying to stop everypony from killing the robot.

"What... the... Hay...?" Rainbow Dash asked, gasping for breath after pausing the video. She played it again after laughing some more, and she found that the hijinks had only just begun (which she didn't expect considering how violent and dark the show was normally.) First, there was a quick sequence in which the robot chased Allen (which came up a few times) that Rainbow couldn't help but snicker at.

Next, one of the scientists brought out a cleaning robot, which was apparently also a fighter robot? Anyway, the robot was about to save Allen, when it started cleaning the floor! Rainbow, once again, needed a moment to catch her breath.

After that (and a few other funny things), the scientists were about to shoot Komlin, when Komui came out of nowhere to stop them. Rainbow Dash was already in stitches.

As if that wasn't funny enough, Kanda, the pony (stallion?) who'd destroyed the first Komlin, just came and then left Allen to die. Finally, the robot caught Allen, which was thankfully when Lenalee (who'd been asleep this whole time) finally woke up and destroyed it. "Yay!" Rainbow Dash laughed, still in hysterics.

"Rainbow Dash! Keep it down!" Twilight called through the door. "Your hysterical laughing is interrupting a funeral right beneath your home right now! It's making the ponies even sadder than they already are!!"

":rainbowderp:" Was all that Rainbow could say... Or do, I guess... :applejackconfused:

Pinkie Pie watches Fairy Tail

View Online

It was a sunny day in Ponyville, so sunny that-

"Come ooon! Let me use the TV!"

Hey, you're not supposed to interrupt my intro!

"Huh? Oh, hello! Sorry, I was just worried you were catching LUS, so I just had to interrupt your intro!"

...Oh, fine. Go ahead.

"Can I please watch TV now?" Pinkie Pie whined at Mrs. Cake.

"Just a minute, Pinkie," Mrs. Cake sighed. "The twins will get cranky if they don't watch the end of their show. You know how they are."

Pinkie Pie groaned. "But I need to watch my anime! It's what this fanfiction is about!"

Hey! No more breaking the fourth wall, Pinkie. Do you know how long it takes to fix a broken fourth wall?!

"All right, Pinkie," Mrs. Cake said. "We're almost done here."

"My Little Human... My Little Human..." Went the credits song as the credits rolled.

"Finally!" Pinkie Pie chirped, picking up the remote. "Time for Fairy Tail!"

"Fawy tawe?" Pumpkin asked hopefully.

Pinkie Pie shook her head. "Not fairy tale, Fairy Tail! Tail as in tail," She waggled her tail a bit. "It's an anime about these 'wizards' who go on crazy adventures and be totally awesome!" She exclaimed, performing an out-of-place Kamehameha.

"Fawy taiw!" Pound exclaimed excitedly.

"Exactly," Pinkie Pie giggled. "Hey, Mrs. Cake, do you think the twins could watch Fairy Tail with me? They're only babies, so they wouldn't get any of the mature-ish stuff."

Cup Cake sighed. "Well, all right. As long as they don't repeat any bad language."

"Don't worry, Mrs. Cake! I'll see to it that they hardly even hear a bad word!" Pinkie Pie promised, saluting.

Cup Cake nodded and walked out of the room. "I'm trusting you, Pinkie."

Pinkie just giggled and switched to Hoofflix, choosing "Fairy Tail" under "my list". She then proceeded to click the second episode. After the intro, theme song, and recap, the episode finally opened on the magic council, discussing the Fairy Tail guild, which the twins didn't really get.

"Here's where it gets interesting!" Pinkie Pie told the twins in a whisper that wasn't really a whisper, as Lucy, Natsu, and Happy walked up to the Fairy Tail guild. "We don't need that much context! Just do a time skip!"

Hey! What did I say about breaking the fourth wall?! Do you know how many marshmallows I'm going to need now?! DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY MARSHMALLOWS IT TAKES TO- Oh, right! Time skip!

"Well, did the twins like it?" Mrs. Cake asked when Pinkie Pie had watched a bit of the anime.

"They loved it!" Pinkie Pie cheered. "Especially the part with the giant cow!"

Mrs. Cake blinked. "I beg your pardon?"

Pinkie Pie just walked away cheerfully as Mrs. Cake went in to talk to the twins.

"Amunna kick yow butt!" Pound exclaimed cheerfully.

Mrs. Cake went wide-eyed for a second. I mean, her pupils dilated? "What was that, Pound, sweetie?"

"Cwap!" Pumpkin cheered. "Scwew yow!"

"Pinkie!" Mrs. Cake shrieked.

Applejack watches Foalmetal Alchemist

View Online

The clouds were particularly lazy in Ponyville today, which threw the weather team into a fit. Applejack, not being able to work with all the fog, reluctantly took a day off. She glumly sat inside the farmhouse, looking out the window at all the fog that made it impossible to see any apples or trees.

"What's wrong, sis?" Applebloom asked her gloomy sister. "Are yah sad 'cause a' the fog?"

"Naht so much the fog itself, but the fact that Ah can't work 'cause of it," Applejack sighed in response.

"Ah know what'll cheer yah up!" Applebloom suddenly exclaimed, jumping a bit. "Spike told me 'bout this thing called 'anime!' Sort a' like Japonese cartoons! Ah'm pretty sure there are some on Hoofflix!"

"Ah dunno, AB." Applejack said. "Ah mean-"

"How about Foalmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? Ah've heard it's better than the first anime series." Applebloom suggested, already on Hoofflix.

Applejack sighed in response to her sister. She looked at the anime description. "Yer not plannin' on watchin' this with me, are yah, Applebloom? It doesn't seem appropriate fer such a small pony." Applejack regretted the words as soon as they were out of her mouth. She knew Applebloom hated being called a little pony.

"Ah told yah, sis! Ah'm a big pony!" Applebloom pouted defiantly. "Ah can watch this anime with yah if Ah want to!" With that, she stubbornly sat on the floor and began the first episode.

Applejack sighed, knowing her sister could be as stubborn as she was (a trait gotten from their father), so she decided to let Applebloom watch, and maybe she'd learn her lesson. She plopped down on the couch and fell under the spell of the animation.

"Tsumi no saigo wa namida janai yo, zutto kurushiku seo tte kunda!" Went the theme song. "Deguchi mienai kanjo meiruni dare wo matteru no."

Applejack didn't pay much attention to the plot of the episode. She basically got the gist of the anime. A colt named Edward and his little brother Alphonse had tried to resurrect their late mother using alchemy, and while Edward only lost a front leg and a back leg, Alphonse lost his physical body and his soul was bonded to a suit of armor. From the episode, she did get that there was plenty of blood and some minor cussing, which would be a bit much for Applebloom. She looked at the back of her sister's head. She couldn't tell much from that.

After the episode ended, Applejack walked over to her sister as the credits played.

"Well, AB?" Applejack asked. "What didja think?"

Applebloom looked like she was in utter shock. Then, without another word, she ran up to her room, looking a bit green. Applejack chuckled at her sister.

"Eeyup. Ah think she learned her lesson."

"It wuz amazin'!" Applebloom cheered into the phone. "Of course Ah'm gonna watch more! ...No, not while mah sister's there. I fooled her into thinking Ah'd 'learn mah lesson', or somethin' like that. ...'Kay. Later, Sweetie Belle."

Rarity watches Mare-doka Magica

View Online

It was snowing very hard in Ponyville that day. Rarity was very bored, sitting inside the boutique. She had no orders that day, and couldn't go out because of the snow.

I know, she thought to herself. I've been meaning to continue that anime that Pinkie Pie recommended to me! So, Rarity walked towards the television and picked up the remote with her magic. She sat down on her couch, and turned on Hoofflix.

"Now, let's see... what was it called again? Mare-doka Magica?" She quickly found what she was looking for, and began the third episode.

The episode began with Sayaka visiting Kyousuke. Rarity didn't find that part particularly interesting, so she didn't pay much attention until the opening theme.

"Oh, those outfits are just lovely," Rarity commented under her breath. "Perhaps I could convince Sweetie Belle or one of her friends to wear a similar one for Halloween..."

After the theme song, it showed Mami defeating another witch with her giant gun with Madoka and Sayaka watching. Sayaka thought it was awesome, and Mami reminded her that the work of a Puella Magi is very dangerous.

"Honestly," Rarity scoffed. "Those 'witches' look awful! It doesn't surprise me that they're the villains."

The scene continued as a conversation about how a familiar could become a witch, and how you have to kill the familiars who act apart from the witches. Then there was a bit of Mami's backstory; namely how she became a Puella Magi. Then Sayaka asked what would happen if she used her Puella Magi wish for somebody else.

"Oh, come on," Rarity muttered, rolling her eyes. "She's obviously taking about Kyousuke. She's such a... what did Pinkie call it? Tsundere?"

Other things happened in that episode; Madoka having a conversation with her dad about her mom, an argument between Mami and Homura, and eventually Sayaka and Kyubey entering a witch's labyrinth, with Madoka and Mami close behind.

"I wonder when Madoka and Sayaka will become Puella Magi," Rarity wondered aloud. "I mean, we saw them in the opening." (Little did she know that Madoka wouldn't become a Puella Magi until the last episode.)

After running into Homura and trapping her so she wouldn't interfere, the three girls found the witch in the labyrinth.

The fight seemed to be going in Mami's favor, until...

"Pinkie, why did you recommend this anime to me again?" Rarity demanded. She'd decided to visit Sugarcube Corner after stopping the episode before it ended.

"Well, I thought you'd like it," Pinkie replied shrugging. "Why didn't you like it? What episode are you on?"

"I almost got to the end of episode three," Rarity muttered, shuddering at the still vivid memory.

"Oh, that episode isn't all that bad!" Pinkie cried. "I mean, the witch was obviously hungry for curly fries!"

Rarity blinked. "Curly fries?"

"Curly fries!" Pinkie Pie asserted.

Rarity walked out of Sugarcube Corner without another word.

Fluttershy watches Higurashi

View Online

Another day in Ponyville brings another adventure featuring the mane 6. Fluttershy, to be exact. Having a rare amount of free time when she didn't have to care constantly for her animals, she decided to watch a show. She decided on an anime she had seen mentioned on the internet, though she hadn't heard anything about what the show was about. It appeared to take place in a nice town though, and that was enough for her.

She pulled up a website on her computer and typed the name of the anime into the search bar. As she did this, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Angel Bunny stood behind her.

"Oh, hello, Angel," Fluttershy said. "Is something wrong?"

Angel gave her a questioning look, as if to ask, "What are you doing?"

"I'm watching a show I've heard mentioned before," Fluttershy said in response. "I've heard pretty good things about it, but I'm not sure what it's about. Do you know anything, Angel?"

Angel tilted his head in a gesture that said, "What is it called?"

"Oh, silly me. It's called..." She looked at the anime's title, unsure of the pronunciation. "...Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni? Oh, the English title is When the Cicadas Cry." She turned back to Angel, smiling. "I don't suppose you've heard of it before."

Angel blinked, then smiled mischievously. His smile almost said, "Honey, you've got a big storm comin'." After giving his vague warning (was it a warning?) Angel Bunny turned and hopped away, leaving Fluttershy to ponder his gesture.

After a few moments, Fluttershy decided that the grin was simply Angel being Angel, and turned back toward the computer. After all, she had a show to enjoy. It was her day off, after all, and nothing should stop her... probably.

Famous last words.

After one episode, Fluttershy was slightly concerned. The show seemed to be taking a spookier turn than she first expected, but that was fine, right? She'd handled much spookier things in the past, hadn't she? She could certainly handle some mild spooks; surely she could.

After two more episodes, Fluttershy had a feeling of dread covering her. Of course, she knew curses weren't real, as Twilight had reminded them when they first met Zecora, but that didn't mean they didn't exist in fiction. Not to mention the fact that a couple of the characters she thought were very nice didn't seem to be acting so nice anymore. Still, if Fluttershy couldn't handle some fictional curses and possibly demons of some sort, how could she face threats to Equestria? Of course, she hoped she wouldn't have to face anymore threats to Equestria, but she still had to be prepared. Thus, she clicked the link to the next episode.

After four episodes of When the Cicadas Cry, Fluttershy was found by Angel Bunny, crying while hugging Harry the Bear. Angel simply snickered at Fluttershy's misfortune, earning him a glare from the aforementioned bear, which then caused Angel to scamper off.

And from that day forward, Fluttershy never trusted internet anime recommendations again.

Celestia and Luna watch Pop Team Epic

View Online

"Hey, Luna, you like anime, right?"

It was a day just like any other when Celestia called Luna to her room. Luna, naturally, trotted in at the sound of her name, curious as to why her sister had called.

"Well, yes, there are a few that I quite enjoy- didn't I tell you to check out Boku no Hero Academia?" Luna replied.

Celestia waved her hoof dismissively. "Yes, you did, Luna, but come look at this!" Her computer screen was paused at the beginning of a show, fullscreened so Luna couldn't tell what the title was.

"A recommendation? That sounds nice, sister, but what's it ca-"

"No time, let's just watch!" Celestia exclaimed as she pressed the play button. Luna decided to sit down in the chair next to her sister, since she knew whatever she had to show to her sister must be good.

The opening of the show looked to be one of a typical idol romance anime, which some ponies might find boring, but Luna found herself drawn to all genres of stories, no matter how trite their tropes. Plus, the character designs looked quite cute and the opening was catchy.

However, just as Luna got excited for the episode to truly begin when the opening ended, a character with a completely different art style burst through the screen.

"Wh- Celestia, what is-" Luna glanced back at Celestia, only to find that she had disappeared. With no one left to offer an explanation of the show's sudden turn, she simply looked back at the screen and hoped that her questions would soon be answered.

No questions were answered. Nothing was answered.

The true show began with a few simple but nonsensical shorts, with the logo and the title of the show playing in between each (turns out the title was Poputepipikku, which she supposed Celestia hadn't told her due to the fact that the fake idol anime had a different title).

However, it quickly incredibly confusing as it seemed that the characters were put into different worlds with no break or explanation as the screen glitched and distorted. She continued to watch, if only for some semblance of an explanation. But alas, none was given. The shorts went back to how they were before, with the logo in between each one (and some...... very strange segments as well) until the episode finally ended with a cute credits sequence.

Luna stared at the screen, thinking about what, exactly, the heck she just watched, as Celestia walked back into the room with some nonspecific snacks.

"Oh, did you finish watching already, Lulu? I didn't think preparing the snacks would take this long; sorry about that," she explained. "I didn't want to interrupt you, since you seemed to be... really into it." She stifled a slight laugh.

Luna stared at her, blankly, before getting up and promptly leaving the room.

"...Yeah, that's kind of what I expected," Celestia sighed. "Would you at least tell me whether your favorite is Popuko or Pipimi?"

Luna gave no response.

"...Hey hey, are you upset?"

"...I am not upset."
