Celestia and luna are the only natural alicorns, or so the ponies of equestria believe. One day Twilight descovers a new book, a finds out the princess having been hiding a small, but very big secret. Twilight decides to search for the secret.
Twilight discovers a new book in her castle library and unwilling finds out about a Princess unknown to the ponies of Equestria, Solar Nova. Celestia and Luna's youngest sister. Unsure why Solar Nova has been hidden, Twilight takes up a journey to find out why and, hopefully befriend this forgotten princess.
"Tia, Luna!" I galloped as fast as my little legs let me. "Nova, what are you doing outside?" My biggest sister, Tia turned and used her wing to hide me from sight. "But, I want to see the world Tia." I said "No, go back inside." Tia pushed me back with her wing. I sadly went back inside, I trotted down the forbidden passage, as ponies called it. It led to my room, where my sisters kept me hidden. I didn't understand, why couldn't I be a proper Princess like them. I had my wings and a horn, and magic. I lacked my cutie mark. Maybe that was the problem. I thought as i pushed the door opened and went to the window. I watched ponies out side, the couldn't see this part of the castle, Tia used a spell so ponies couldn't see it, so the wouldn't ask questions. I watched ponies my age playing, the feeling of loneliness settled down on me, I sniffed. I heard a noise, I turned to see Tia and Luna, they had the usual tea set and lunch with them. I had to decide now, would I listen to them forever, or follow my mind. there was only one thing I wanted, I trotted to the door and closed it on them. I used my magic to barricade the door. I was going to follow my mind, and ignore my sisters, they keep me trapped for no reason, now it is my time to break free!
And that was the way it went, when I reached the age of 14, my magic was really powerful and I could fly. Today was the day I left, maybe claim my part of royalty Luna and Celestia had. I opened my door and walked the forbidden passage. It was my birthday, so they had decorated it, I narrowed my eyes, using my magic to turn the décor to ash. I was not a foal any more, I had rights like every pony else, though Celestia and Luna forbade me such rights for so long - It ends now. "Nova..." I stopped, my sisters were blocking the entrance, Luna levitating the ash from the destroyed decorations. "Let me pass!" I growled "No, sister, calm yourself!" Celestia said "Why? You have kept me locked up, no pony knows that you have me as a sister, just Princess Luna of the night!" I yelled, Luna looked hurt, but I cared little, They were as bad as each other. "Now, I'm leaving, I am willing to destroy whatever and whomever to get away!" To show I meant it, I blasted a spell at them, Celestia created a shield, my older sisters looked horror struck. I used their moment of shock to run pass them. I galloped outside, no pony was there, oh well. I flew up, the wind felt fantastic under my wings, my firey like mane swirled around me, this was freedom....I was finally free. "Solar Nova!" Celestia yelled, I turned to see my sisters. My sisters yelled had caused ponies to crowd the castle. Guards looked unsure whether to help or not. "You will never lock me away again!" I growled, attacking them again. Celestia and Luna looked at each other, they brought out the elements of harmony. I narrowed my eyes, as the powerful beam came right at me. I created a shield witch exploded around me...
I found myself far from my sisters, on the outlands of Equestria. This my home now. I looked in to a pool of water, my eyes were gleaming yellow slits, this is what I had to become for freedom, I smirked. I was free, Celestia and Luna no longer had control. I could finally do as I pleased, I laughed, shooting a spiral of fire up to the sky, I was free. I looked at me flank as it felt weird, I saw a small red sun that seemed to be exploding. I smiled my cutie mark! That's who I am, This is who I am. I am Solar Nova, Princess of Fire and Death!
"What's everypony doing today?" Twilight asked her friends, they had finally got everything in order. This was their first day relaxing since beating Tirek. "I'm babysitting Pound and Pumpkin for the Cakes. They have a big delivery." Pinkie Pie smiled, two balloons were tied around her forelegs. "I'm spending the day with Scootaloo." Rainbow grinned "I still need to do the whole 'taking her under my wing' thing. I'm gonna see if I can get her, at least, a foot off the ground." "I'm helping Mrs duck cross Ponyville with her new ducklings. I have planned a tea party with all my animal friends later." Fluttershy smiled, her hushed voice contained hints of excitement for today's plans. "I promised SweetieBelle to help her with some costume designs for that new play she has written for her and her friends." Rarity said "I am surprised she hasnot got her cutie mark as a playwrite, her plays are simply divine." "Same with Scootaloo and her scooter skills." Rainbow agreed "She is awesome!" "Well, it's applebuck season, I gotta help out at home. Applebloom is helping out this year." AppleJack told them "Applebloom's cutie mark has to be something to do with apples. It runs in the family." She added proudly, She looked at Twilight. "What about you Sugar cube?" "Well, Celestia and Luna don't need my help with anything and Spike has taken a day off. I decided to read though the books in the library." Twilight said "Anyway, I have to check if Sunset Shimmer has written back." "You two are becoming really close friends, despite being so far apart." Fluttershy smiled, Twilight nodded. "Yeah, my Canterlot high friends, and pretty much everyone at Canterlot high is nice to her. Now she has lots of friends, to help her understand the magic of friendship." Twilight smiled remembering the first time Sunset Shimmer had written to her after she left that world. "I'll have to ask when the next big event at CHS is, maybe I talk to everyone, you could come too." "That would be awesome!" Rainbow grinned "anyway, must dash!" Rainbow zoomed off, leaving a rainbow streak in the air. "we all must be off off, see ya Twilight." AJ, Rarity left, Pinke pie bounced after them. "You are welcome to join the tea party Twilight." Fluttershy offered, she suddenly hid behind her mane. "If you want to, that is." "No, it's ok." Twilight smiled, Fluttershy gave a short nod, then went to help Mrs Duke. Twilight went into the library, sure enough, the book was glowing and vibrating. Twilight opened the book and began to read. 'Dear Princess Twilight, Flash is asking to see you again. The fall formal is coming up. Everyone is hoping you'll come again this year. Will you be able to make it? I know it must be really busy being a princess. I am going to be the foal formal princess again, if you do come, we can compete again.It will be fun! Your friend Sunset Shimmer'
Twilight smiled at the letter, the Fall formal? Had it already been a year already? Twilight's horn glowing with a purple aura as she picked up a quill and began to write her reply. 'Dear Sunset Shimmer, The fall formal? It is hard to believe I have been a Princess and your friend for one whole year, it seems a lot longer. I will be coming for sure. But my friends here want to come. I know Princess Celestia told me it would effect the balance of that world, but do you think you could talk to Principle Celestia about it. If they came , I know Rarity will go for the fall formal Princess. I cannot wait to hear from you. Your forever Friend Twilight Sparkle' Twilight closed the book and put the quill down, before trotting over to the nearest bookshelf, she read the titles, most of them she had read when she was Celestia's student living in Canterlot. But she came to a book she had never seen before, it didn't have a title. She picked it up, realising it looked like a dairy of some sort. It was dark blue with a moon, Twilight guessed it was Luna's, but why would Luna give Twilight this? Intrigued, Twilight opened the book, to find a note from Princess Luna herself, it was only recently written. 'Twilight This may look like a dairy, but it holds story of mine and Celestia's biggest mistake. Celestia knows nothing of this book, I give it to you in hope you can right our wrong. Princess Luna' Twilight read the note several times for it to sink in. She went over to a table, flipping the page and began to read.
The day draw to a closed and the 5 were returning to the castle after a busy day. They found Twilight pacing, holding the book with her magic. "Twilight, is something wrong?" Pinkie asked. "There's somepony I have to fine! Will you guys come with me?" Twilight asked "Sorry sugar, we all have jobs here, we are busy, especially this time of year." AJ said "Right...I wonder..." Twilight raced off to the library "Do you think she's ok?" Rarity asked "Yes, you know Twi, probably a request from Celestia or Luna." Rainbow said, they all agreed with Rainbow and they went up to their rooms. Whilst in the library, Twilight wrote an urgent note to Sunset Shimmer. Before packing her saddle bags, she put the book in first, She had to get ready for a very long journey.
The next morning, Pinkie, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow and AJ entered the throne room to find a note attached to Twilight's throne. Pinkie got to it first. "What does it say Pinkie?" Fluttershy asked "Gone on a mission with Sunset Shimmer, we don't know when we will be back. Twilight" Pinkie read. The elements looked at each other in shock. They all looked down, as a book sat in Twilight's place. The dark cover screamed Luna, but what mission had Twilight been sent on?"
"Wow, that's...That's just...wow..." Sunset Shimmer said, The unicorn sat across from Twilight in their train carriage. "I know." Twilight said holding a map. "Any clues on where she could be?E The orange unicorn asked "Well, considering nopony in equestria has heard, let alone seen her, My guess is that she lives in the outcasted lands. byond Equestria's boarders" Twilight showed Sunset the map, a town close to the boarder of Equestria was circled. The train passed through a tunnel, the only light was the soft glow of Twilight's horn, giving the carriage a lilac glow. "Why are we going there?" Sunset questioned "The town closest to the board, maybe somepony there has seen her. Or atleast has heard news from the outcasted lands." Twilight explained "Maybe they could shed some light on what's out there." "That's a good plan." Sunset nodded, as Twilight rolled up the map and put it in her saddle bag. "Do you know what she looks like?" "Oh, yes, Luna left me this too." Twilight searched her saddle bags, once she found what she was looking for, she passed it to Sunset. It was a picture of a little alicorn filly, with burning yellow eyes with fiery mane. "Aww, she looks so sweet!" Sunset smiled "Solar Nova, Right?" Sunset passed the picture back "Yep." Twilight nodded, putting the picture back. "What about her background?Why did she leave?" Sunset asked. Twilight took out the book and flicked through it. "Well, according to Luna, Solar Nova lived up to her name. Her magic often exploded, bring nothing but death and destruct to anything that she was near. To protect her and everypony in equestria Luna and Celestia hid her. Solar Nova was angered , and one day, like her power, her anger exploded, she become something like Nightmare Moon." Twilight explained, She looked at the pages the information was on. "That's sad." Sunset sighed "May I read that?" Twilight nodded and passed the book to Sunset. "It's a few hours before we reach the town. I'm going to to get some sleep." Twilight got up and headed to her room on the train. Sunset Shimmer opened the book and began to read Solar Nova's story.
Several hours later, the two friends left the train. They watched the train move away. "Let's meet up here after we get some information." Twilight said "We should jot down what we ;learn, that way we can put it together like a..." Sunset began "Research paper!" They said together, they laughed. "That's a great idea! idead." Twilight got some paper and two qwills, giving Sunset one qwill and a piece of paper.
"let's meet up at that cafe after." sunset pointed at a small cafe, Twilight nodded and the two unicorns set off.
"nothing!" Twilight sighed, she and sunset looked over their notes.
"Most ponies haven't heard of Solar Nova..." Sunset said
"You mean, Princess Solar Nova?" a trio of ponies who were passing stopped. A pegasus, unicorn and an earth pony.
"yeah, we are trying to look for her." twilight said
"We can Take you, I'm Destined Flame, this is Gaia fire and sky blaze." the unicorn introduce herself and her friends.
"I'm Twilight Sparkle and this is Sunset shimmer." twilight smiled
"Pleasure, met us by the boarder tomorrow, we'll take you to Solar Nova." Sky said, they went off,they headed to a shop.
"so... What is Solar Nova doing outside Equestria?" Sunset asked
"well, we'll find out tomorrow." Twilight answered, just then, A famlier pegasus entered the cafe " Fluttershy!"
"Oh,there you are Twilight.Have you found Solar Nova?" The shy pegasus asked
"nope, but we have met some ponies who are taking us to her tomorrow." Twilight smiled.
"Oh, good. Can I come.... If that is OK with you." Fluttershy said.
"The more the merrier!" sunset nodded, The pegasus sat down and they discussed tomorrow's plans.
The next morning, the 6 ponies set off early. About 2 hours after walking across the deserted outcast lands, Twilight spotted smoke coming from a mountain.
"Is that a volcano?" She asked
"Yes, the city is just in there." Destined Fire smiled
"in a volcano?" Fluttershy whimpered.
"Don't worry,Princess Solar Nova keeps it from hurting us." Sky smiled
"she is powerful enough to do that?" Sunset said, the 3 ponies nodded.Fluttershy, Twilight and sunset looked at each other.
"Princess, do you believe this is necessary?" The 6 ponies froze, ahead was a pony who looked like Nightmare moon, but yellow and orange with a fire mane and tail.
"Of course!" The pony nodded, she lifted up some fire rubies. "Everypony needs a gift on the festival of flames." She smiled.
"but, the changelings..." The guard began.
"Do you seriously think they will attack with me like this?" Nova raised her wings questioningly.
"No..." The guard looked down
"The cheer up, you are fair too serious, lighten up have fun."Nova smiled, putting the rubies in his saddle bag. She found some more and lifted them out.
"Princess!" Sky hollared. Nova looks up a smile spread across her face, it was slightly terrifying.
"You're back!" She saw the other 3 ponies "Who are these?" She got in her defensive sTate.
"this is Princess Twilight and her friends, Fluttershy and Sunset Shimmer." Blaze introduced them. Nova approached them,on her way changing into her normal alicorn form, she was the same size as Twilight,expect her mane moved like Luna's and Celestina's.
"You're not a real alicorn." Nova stated.
"No,I was a unicorn...I am the element of magic." Twi bowed, Nova gasped grinned.
"The element of magic from the elements of Harmony?" She asked, Twi nodded. "The come into my volcano city." Nova cheerfully headed back. Everypony else followed.
Nova showed them through a secret entrance. Sunset, Twi and Fluttershy gasped at what they saw. A city made from crystallized lava. "Princess Nova created this place herself. A place where ponies with fire related abilities can live freely." Sky explained, the other two went off. "Basically, we can do what ever we won't as long as it harms no pony."
"This place sounds nice." Fluttershy smiled
"It is, we are all family here. They only mysterious pony here is Princess Nova, we hardly know anything about her.But she's hiding." Sky said
"Oh, right. Princess Nova..." Twi began
"please, call me Nova." Nova smiled
"OK, Nova. I am here at the request of Princess Luna." Twilight said. Nova stopped smiling.
"Do they know where I am?" She asked
"No,Luna told me what happened, she asked me to keep it from celestial.Nova looked at her, then started laughing.
