Pacific Grimm

by Ross Grimm

First published

A quick crossover showing a side story to Pacific Rim. Though there probably will be the actual story in there too. Ponies in Jaegers. Seemed like a good idea. Another Ross and Twilight focused story..

Still trying to make up for that first story.

Pacific Rim: The movie to end all movies... Now with ponies! (Though technically anthro) This tells the story of Ross and Twilight in Pacific Rim, because it seemed like a good idea...

"Twiley! Get up!! We're being deployed! Another big one too! Category 2! Codenamed: Sabertooth." Ross said tapping his wife's leg trying to wake her up.

"Huh? What time is it, Ross?" She simply asked, sounding extremely tired.

"One thirty!" He said, chipper as ever. This is what he lived for. This was his ambition. His wife just wanted to be with him. "Its a two Jaeger drop! We're teamed with Crimson River!"

"Dash?" She said while putting a shirt on. They hadn't spoken in years! Twilight felt excitement mound up inside her. She shoved it down deep. Emotion doesn't mix well with the drift.

"Yep! You ready?" He asked holding his hand out yet close to his chest, slightly cupped. Twilight responded by extending her hand as well.

"As I'll ever be!" She shrugged and ran next to Ross down the hall and to where they are to be suited up.

The armor was cold. Though needed, it always seemed uncomfortable for Ross. Twilight had no issues with it, something Ross learned from the drift. As it was bolted and screwed together, Ross felt an ounce of fear inside him rise up and gain size as he looked toward his wife. If she were to di- No! He broke that thought off rather quickly. The nervous enhancer was connected next. It hurt, of course. Twilight let out a small moan. Ross simply bit his lip.

"Initiate the neural handshake." Celestia said calmly.

"Neural handshake is a go!" A short female in a suit and bowtie said with a smile.

Ross watched Twilight's memories flash before him. Her dreams. Her ambition. Her deepest desires. And he felt as though it were his fault she was stuck here. Defending these shorelines rather than cuddling with him like she wanted. But he pushed that deep. And a scream caught his attention. "Dreamscape?!" He panicked. He forgot it was just a memory.

"Ross is fading!" The suit girl said in an urgent tone. She could see the drift fall apart. Ross was going through the worst of it. Twilight was falling in response.

"Daddy! Help!" A teenager Ross recognized well screamed. Her face so full of fear. He reached out to help.

"Dreamscape! Just hold on!" He shouted, further imprisoning himself in this memory. He watched his daughter get ripped apart by the teeth of a Kaiju. "NO!" He screamed.

When he finally woke up from that mental prison the first thing he saw was Twilight's face. He couldn't quite make out the words she said, all he could do was watch her lips move. He was a little irritated he can't read lips. His hearing finally returned to him as he heard, "Get him to a damn medbay! His head could be mush right now!" That was Twiley alright... Always thinking the worst.

"I'm fine," he replied, "She really did look a lot like you...." He smiled and felt a tear roll down his face.

"We still need to get you help! He's unconsci- Ross!" She couldn't help but hug him. "What do you mea- oh... Yeah she did." She kinda died down a bit. But they cleared their heads and stood back up.

"Start it back up, Bow tie girl!" Ross said through the com.

"One: my name is Octavia! And two: No!" She sounded angry.

"Octavia! Start it back up! They'll be fine!" Celestia shouted.

"Right away, sir!" Octavia said nervously, "Reinitiating neural handshake!"

Ross felt his wife's push into his again. This time it was more calm. There was less screaming and fear. Though there was still a hint of fear in Twilight's thought. Once it was all over, the two of them glanced at each other and moved simultaneously. Pulling the gargantuan robot's arms together in a prayer stance and the moved forward.

Chapter Two: The Big Bad Kaiju

"Dashie? Come in Dashie!" Ross said through the com. His voice was raspy from his harsh awakening. They were still a few miles from where they needed to be. This Kaiju was BIG. Ross was feeling a bit nervous. So was Twilight. He knew it.

"This is Dashie! Whaddya want Grimm?" She asked in a slightly harsh tone. She was just as tired as him. And it showed.

"Just saying hello!" He replied in a jolly tone.

"Ross, focus?" Twilight suggested. She was kind of irritated at him. He was never a serious man, and she knew that about him. She wishes he was. She didn't hear him reply, but she knew he did.

The radar screamed as a claw went toward Ross and Twilight's Jaeger. It connected at the left eye, though it did not breach the hull. Ross shrieked in pain and readied for a counterattack.

"Hurricane! What's your status?!" Octavia shouted into her mic.

"I'm gonna tear this bastard's heart out!" Ross shouted back. The blood from his left eye clouded his vision. The couple fought back with animalistic ferocity, driving the horn of their mechanical combatant through the Kaiju's shoulder. The Kaiju Blue leaked from the wound and trickled down its chest.

The beast then bit into the left knee of the couple's Jaeger. Ross screamed and Twilight began to panic.

"Marshall!! 'Shy and I can't just sit here! We're moving in to help those two!" Rainbow Dash shouted with anger. They did just that, slamming into the side of the Kaiju, toppling the beast.

"Dammit! Rainbow Dash! Your insubordination will no longe-" Celestia was cut off by Dash shutting off the com.

The Kaiju slowly stood back up and went after Dash and 'Shy. It connected and tackled them, knocking them into the water. It went to tear into the head of their Jaeger, only to be stopped by a daggerlike blade to its temple.

"Ross?! Are you okay?" Dash asked.

"No.... I need a doctor...." He said with a laugh.

"Just get back here..." Octavia laughed into the mic.

"Can do." Twilight responded in a soldier-like tone.

The two Jaegers returned to the base in Canterlot. Where the pilots were unarmored and delinked. And were then told to goto Celestia. But when Ross was unstrapped and stripped of the armor. He slipped onto unconsciousness. They rushed the grey maned alicorn to a medbay. His mind was aflutter with dreams. This is what was most prominent.

"So, Twiley! You're pregnant! Eight weeks today, right?" Ross asked smiling at her. She was positively beaming with excitement.

"Yep! Any names you think will work?" She asked while smiling back at him.

"Dreamscape..." He said in a trivial tone. She had just told him about an hour ago. All in all he was excited.

"Maybe...." Twilight said. The two are only 19. Twilight practically ran away with him. And she knew it. She found herself stare into his grey-blue eyes. They had a touch of green today. She found it enticing.

As the days turned to weeks, and those to months, and eventually even years. Dreamscape was 17. And of age to join the fight against the Kaiju.

"Why not, dad?!" Dreamscape asked as though she was told she could no longer live. As she grew older she obtained features of her mother, but the strange coat and mane of Ross. Grey on white.

"Because I don't want to hear about you dying on the six o'clock news!" He stood his ground with that. She meant more to him than anything. And that was the worst question she could've asked.

"Ugh! I'll go ask mom!" Dreamscape walked off with a huff. She knew she would get a little headway with her mother.

"Absolutely not, young mare!" Twilight replied in the exact same tone as her husband. The couple got more and more alike by the day.

"Fine!" Dreamscape said while stomping toward the door. Their home was a small two bedroom house. Not very big, but enough to fit the three.

"Where are you going?!" Ross stopped her. His fatherly-side really showing.

"Out!" Dreamscape angrily replied. She pushed past her father and out the door.

"Fine then! She'll be back by dinner, yes?" Ross turned to his wife.

"She normally is... Follow her." Twilight responded. She had that "mom look" on her face. The one that said "I'm the mother! Do as I say or perish!".

"Okay!" Ross said as he followed Dreamscape through the city. Around Kaiju bones, through buildings, even at a restaurant. He knew Twilight's cooking was awful, which is why he normally cooks. So he ate there.

A loud roar erupted through the city and everything else fell silent. It wasn't long before somepony shouted "KAIJU!!". Panic ensued. The small restaurant was a target of the beast.

"DREAMSCAPE!!!" Ross shouted as he watched his daughter get torn to shreds. in the Kaiju's teeth. The dream faded to lead to another.

Another scream rang out in his ears, this one was not of his daughter. "Tw-twilight?!" He managed to say. He looked to his side and he was in the Jaeger and he watched her get torn from the head, his vision blurred and he seized on the ground, panic flooding his mind as he shot awake.

He screamed upon waking, various medical officers rushing into the room telling him to lie down, or chill, or something. He blocked all that out. His vision cleared and he scanned the room, searching for her. "Is she okay?!" He asked in a frenzied state. The officers eventually calmed him and ran a few tests. He really got a feel of the room after that. The white metal walls surrounding the small bed were cold to the touch. The entire room smell of lavender, He eventually came to the realization someone had left lavenders in the room, as though he were actually sick. "I'm fine... stupid flowers..." He picked up the note attached to it and read that it was from Twilight. "Never mind... Lovely flowers..." He smiled and scanned the room for anything to let him know what was actually wrong with him. Eventually finding a notepad with scribbling on them. "Damn doctor's writing..." He was not happy.

Hours of drilling boredom passed and Ross passed out about an hour after waking. Though he didn't stay asleep. He awoke again after he heard the door squeak open and he saw Twilight. "Twilight!" He got up and stood painfully to her. "Ross!" She ran to him and sat him down, scolding him following the doctor's orders. She didn't like the face he made during her speech, lightly tapping his shoulder. "Would you be serious for once?!" She lashed out at him. "I was up all night worrying about you! And you won't even be serious after nearly dying from blood loss?!" She began shouting at this point.

"Twilight..." He began and sighed, "i'm not serious because that's not me. I thought you of all people would get that." He sighed again and turned his head some, showing his eye under his long hair, scarred and torn. The iris having gone white. "I;m trying to stay positive. But I can't do it!" He began crying. "I'm staying positive so I don't feel the crippling reality crashing in around us!" He collapsed against her should in tears.

"Ross..." She looked at the back of his head and held him close, "I lo-" SHe was cut off by someone else walking in.

"Can he walk?" It was Marshall Celestia. She had a cold look on her face, she had no concern for him. All she cared about was having an army. "Jaeger's fixed. So I need you two back at base ASAP."

"Marshall." Twilight began to speak but was cut off again.

"ASAP." She spoke coldly.

"Yes ma'am." Ross spoke from his on Twilight's shoulder.
