"What on earth is that?" questioned a drowzy Fluttershy.
She could hear rustling and then an unmistakable whimpering coming from just outside the window.
"Could it be one of the animals? Oh dear I told Angel not to walk on that broken paw!" she squeaked.
Throwing off the comforter Fluttershy made a beeline for the door. In her haste she didn't notice said bunny sleeping in the middle of her path until she tripped over him, collapsing in a heap on the floor.
"AHH!"
"Mrmgfff"
"Oh my I am so sorry Angel..uh Angel? Where are you?"
"Mrmgfff"
Realizing exactly what or in this case whom she had fallen on Fluttershy instantly bolted into the air.
"I'm so sorry Angel I thought I had heard you outside."
Angel looked a bit dubious at that statement, but otherwise seemed to let it go.
"Well if it wasn't you I heard than who or what on earth was that outside my window?"
As she said this another whimper sounded once again just outside her window.
"Oh that poor creature. Don't worry I am coming to help!" cried Fluttershy.
However, before she could get out the door she felt a small tugging on her tail.
"Angel whats wrong? I need to get out there to help that poor animal."
In answer the shrewd bunny lifted its arms in the air and bared its teeth, mimicking a large predator.
"Oh don't be silly Angel that creature clearly needs help and I will not allow his cries to be ignored!"
With that the gentle mare made her way out the door and into the dark night.
Fluttershy had followed the cries to the back of her house. Her steps slowed as the image of Angel and his ferocious pose came to mind.
This gave Fluttershy pause because the Everfree forest was nearby and although she loved animals there were some that even she was frightened of.
"Oh no what if its a Timberwolf? or worse some hungry dragon?! She shivered at this thought.
"Or a poor defenseless animal that needs my help?"
Upon hearing another wail from the creature Fluttershy forgot her fears. She ran to the bushes near the back window and the forest.
There covered in cuts and wood chips was a small red fox.
"Oh hello there little guy are you the one thats been making all the fuss?" Cooed Fluttershy.
Picking the small creature up carefully, she softly cooed to the fox in an attempt to keep him calm.
"Don't worry I will take care of you."
This earned the gentle mare a lick and mewl of delight from the little fox. Using her wings to keep her hooves free to carry her precious bundle Fluttershy slowly flew back into the safety of her home. She was unaware of the two glowing eyes that watched her every step. -------------------------------------------------------------------
Pinkie Pie was just setting up the ingredients for her favorite pink cupcakes when a disgruntled Rarity came rushing through the door.
"Pinkie!"
"Here! oh whats up Rarity?"
"Whats up? WHATS UP? This is whats up!" Rarity ripped off the hat that had been covering her usually flowing mane.
"Wow Rarity I love love love looove the new hair color" sing songed Pinkie.
Rarity seemed to be having trouble breathing properly as she gritted out "Of course you do darling since you are the one who gave it to me!"
"Whaaat? I did, that was very nice of me" squealed Pinky as she absentmindedly added some purple sugar to her cupcake mix.
"No it is was not nice. My hair is pink, a hideous pink!"
Unbeknownst to the two bickering mares a certain draconequus was just outside chuckling at the ensuing chaos.
"Oh how delightful I do so love a bit of chaos in the morning" Discord grinned wickedly as he watched the outcome of his antics that day.
"But I gave you the hair dye you asked for whats bleh! Oh disgusting what kind of sugar is this?"
"Bahahaha! Oh I can't wait to tell Fluttershy about this she'll just love my newest prank. Well after she gets over nagging me first." conceded Discord.
Having had enough of the two mares shouting Discord flew off to go and greet his good friend Fluttershy. ----------------------------------------
"La la laaa"
A contented Fluttershy sat amongst the flowerbeds with an equally comfortable fox. While a rather sour looking bunny looked on from beneath a nearby tree.
"Ooh Fluttershy! Guess what I ah what is that? Discord was a little puzzled by the creature that Fluttershy now held in her hooves.
With a sweet smile that made Discord's heart stutter a little, not that he would ever admit it, she turned to say "Oh he is the fox I found last night isn't he the sweetest?"
"Ah what about that petulant bunny thats always hanging around?"
Fluttershy gave a quick peek over at a Angel before answering "Oh Angel is just a bit shy around new friends he'll come around."
"Sure, well anyway you won't believe the chaos, I mean fun I had with Pinkie and Rarity today"
Fluttershy gave him a skeptical look, but asked anyway "Really and what exactly did you do with them Discord?"
She knew her friends and highly doubted that they had a fun time with Discord, but his excitement was contagious. She couldn't help, but be happy for him. Besides his smiles always gave her butterflies in her stomach. Although she didn't quite understand why she adored seeing her friend happy all the same.
"Well lets just say Rarity got a fresh new look that I think looks fabulous on her"
"Oh dear, please tell me you didn't" pleaded a nervous looking Fluttershy.
Smirking he replied "Fine, I won't. Instead I'll show you."
With a snap of his claws a movie screen appeared along with a large popcorn bowl that Discord offered to Fluttershy with a devilish smile.
Fluttershy merely cocked an eybrow at him before sighing. Settling down she waited to see the latest prank her troublesome friend had decided to pull.
While Fluttershy watched, Discord took this opportunity to sneek a few peeks at his lovely er nice friend. He didn't know why, but he enjoyed spending time with the shy mare. Even though she scolded him at times she still shared a laugh or two with him whenever he would decide to become a bit mischievious. It was nice having someone who he could laugh with that didn't seem to mind his quirky habits.
The couple had both inched closer to each other and this was not lost on the forgotten fox. He scowled at the two before deciding to take some action.
As the scene unfolded before her it became increasingly harder for Fluttershy to keep her cool.
"Oh Discord I can't believe you did that. It wasn't very nice" Fluttershy tried to sound stern, but it was extremely hard after seeing the bright pink mane that Rarity was now sporting.
"Nonsense it is only temporary and she was always a bit too uptight it couldn't hurt to give her some excitement. Pinkie seemed to like it." defended Discord.
"Oh as long as no one was harmed, I guess it couldn't hurt."
"Thats better my dear and besides isn't that a smile I see on your face. You thought it was funny as well!" Discord couldn't hide the triumphant note in his voice.
Blushing at being caught laughing at her friend Fluttershy finally conceded "Well it was a bit funny."
Discord couldn't help the sudden increase in his heartbeat when he saw the blush now staining her cheeks. She was so lovely, especially when she blushed.
He reached up to push back the hair from her face, but before he could reach her a sudden pain shot through his hand.
"OW! Something bit me."
Looking down between them the two saw the fox with his teeth now sunk into Discord's paw.
"Why you little!"
The fox fell from his hand and landed with a whimper onto the hard ground.
"Oh! Dear me you poor thing."
"Poor thing? That poor thing bit me!" Shouted Discord.
He once again reached for the devious fox when Fluttershy's glare stopped him in his tracks.
"Discord! He's just a baby and I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt you besides he is wounded."
"What how can you side with that fox?" I'm supposed to be your friend and He attacked me."
"I think you should go now Discord" With a huff fluttershy slammed the door. Leaving a befuddled Discord behind.
"Why the nerve of that mare and to think I came all the way here to tell her about my day." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside the house Fluttershy cuddled the small fox to her chest.
"Oh that Discord, why does he always have to be so rough"
The fox just gave her an innocent look. Sighing Fluttershy gave one last longing look at the door.
"Although, maybe I did overreact a little."
Distracted Fluttershy never saw the fox looking upon the door with a wicked grin spreading across his face.
"Why does she always have to be so sensitive" growled Discord as he idly painted some white roses red in Twilight's garden.
"Its not like I wounded that fox and we were having so much fun"
Heaving a big sigh Discord lazily looked up at his masterpiece.
"Causing mischief is no fun without Fluttershy"
A door burst open somewhere nearby. Revealing a steaming Twilight.
"Discord! What do you think your doing!? How many times do I have to tell you to stop causing chaos!"
Twilight continued her tirade, but her shouts fell on deaf ears.
"Oh even Twilight's scolding isn't a substitute for Fluttershy."
'Maybe I should just apologize' thought a forlorn Discord. 'Wait apologize I did nothing wrong and besides it is completely unfitting of the Lord of Chaos' he huffed.
Then again I could always just drop by to allow her to apologize to me. After all she did treat me rather rudely and I am a generous Draconequus. Yeah thought Discord that's what I'll do. I'll just go by so that she may apologize.
"Oh I can't wait to see Fluttershy" he shouted.
Twilight then gave the Draconequus a strange look.
"Uh I mean uh, look your flowers are back to normal!" Discord took this distraction as a chance to poof away. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Oh Fluttershy! Fluttershy? Where are you?" Taking a peek in her house Discord was surprised to note that Fluttershy seemed to be gone.
Another weird fact was that all of her animals seemed to be still waiting for lunch.
"Why on earth would she just leave? She couldn't have been that mad to have even forgotten about her animals. She adores them!"
Amidst his wonderings he felt a slight nudge against his leg. Looking down at the source of the disturbance he noticed the troublesome bunny that was always around.
"Angel what are you doing and where on earth is your vexing owner?"
In answer the frantic bunny motioned towards the Everfree Forest and looked completely terrified.
Looking towards the forest Discords seemed puzzled and then shook his head.
"What why on earth would she be in there shes terrified of her own shadow, let alone the Everfree Forest."
Angel's only response was to yank on Discord's beard and then point more frantically in the direction of the forest. This worried Discord and soon ice cold dread pooled in the bottom of his stomach.
"Fluttershy!" Dashing off toward the forest Discord searched desperately for his lost friend. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile Fluttershy was hopelessly lost within the depths of the most feared forest in Ponyville.
"How did I get here?" she stuttered in panic.
The very trees seemed to moan and move in closer trapping her in further. Most of it was probably her imagination, but it terrified her just the same.
"At least I have you fox. Don't worry I'm sure someone will come for us soon."
Her only response was a small mewl. However, even that small familiar noise calmed her down a bit.
"Yeah, someone will notice that I'm gone and come looking for us."
'Maybe Twilight, she was supposed to drop off a gardening book this afternoon. Or Pinky she sometimes comes for surprise visits. Oh and I'm sure Dis oh never mind. He probably won't notice. After our fight he probably won't even care.' Thought a distraught Fluttershy.
She started to cry in helplessness and in her distress she did not notice the dark figures creeping ever closer from the black depths of the forest.
A growl broke through the sounds of her sobs and she froze to the spot, scarcely breathing for fear it would incite their attack.
'Timberwolves, oh how could she have gotten into this mess. I don't want to die like this.' This is the thought that kept running through her head. She was far too petrified too try and run or even fly though.
No matter how still or quiet she was the timberwolves still kept coming and just as the leader began to pounce she made one last plea.
"I'm so sorry Discord!"
She waited with eyes closed for the inevitable impact, but none came. Hesitantly she peeked out from between her quivering hooves only to be met with an astonishing sight. Discord was Standing in front of her now holding up the offending wolf by the throat.
"Touch her and I'll turn you into pulp you overgrown twig!"
She couldn't believe her eyes. She was saved and not just by anyone, by Discord!
A pink woodchipper appeared beside them floating in the air. The timberwolve's eyes bulged in fear and he squirmed to get away. The rest of the pack had already turned tail and run seeing who they were up against.
"Now next time I see you I won't be so nice" sneered Discord.
He dropped the timberwolf and the animal took no time in rejoining his pack.
Satisfied with this Discord turned around to examine the frightened Fluttershy.
"Did I get here in time? Your not hurt are you because oomph."
Fluttershy had tackled the startled Draconequus into a bear hug. Realizing this Discord couldn't stop the blush that was creeping over his face.
"Fluttershy dear are you alright?"
"Oh Discord I was so so frightened and I never thought that you would be the one to find me. I thought maybe Twilight or even Pinkie, but not you."
Fluttershy continued to babble on as Discord looked at her a bit puzzled. In an attempt to calm her down he gently stroked her mane. Although it was meant only as a comfort he didn't deny that he loved the feel of her silky hair running through his claws.
"Now now Fluttershy what on earth do you mean you didn't think I would come for you?"
Looking away abashadly Fluttershy hesistated to tell him for fear they would go back to fighting again.
Raising an eyebrow Discord gave her a look that said 'go on'.
"Oh I just well after the fight we had I didn't think you would ever bother coming back."
He looked away guiltily at remembering the recent thoughts he had concerning that matter.
"Is that what you meant when you said 'I'm sorry Discord'?
"Yeah and I am really sorry. I overeacted and I'm not even sure why."
"Don't worry about it I mean it was silly. Besides if anyone apologizes it should be me. I know I can be a bit harsh somtimes, but I don't want to lose you as a friend over it. You really mean a lot to me."
She couldn't believe her ears did he really just say that?
Seeing her look at him with such wonder in her eyes gave Discord a peculiar feeling in the pit of his stomach.
In an attempt to steer away from this uncomfortable situation he coughs then adds "Yes well I really would like to know exactly what it was that you were doing out here all alone. I mean you could have been killed." He shuddered at the thought.
Fluttershy looked just as confused as him when she replied "Honestly I don't really know. One minute I was tending to the baby fox and the next I was here."
At the mention of the fox Discord looked around.
"By the way where is the little bugger?"
"Oh my gosh I almost forgot!"
She quickly headed back towards the tree she had been cowering under. Picking up the trembling creature she gently smoothed back his fur and fluttered back over to Discord.
"He is just a bit shooken up, but I am so glad you came when you did or we both would have been goners."
Discord felt a stab of jealousy and seeing the way she gently tended to the creature, but quickly shook it away.
"Of course anything for a friend. Well we best get going the timberwolves aren't the only creatures lurking around this forest."
He then headed back towards the edge of the forest and Fluttershy's home. Fluttershy quickly rushed after him, not wanting to be left behind. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
After a few minutes of walking they finally made it to the border of the forest. Just as Discord went to step over the threshold a sharp burst of magic traveled up his hoof and into his body. He was thrown back by the unseen force and narrowly missed taking out Fluttershy along with him.
"Oh Discord are you alright? What happened?" Fluttershy hurried to his side scanning him for any injuries.
Discord quickly shook himself off and then without a word charged back towards the opening. Once again he was thrown back by an unseen force and this worried him and the confused Fluttershy.
"Discord what is going on why can't you go through. Please don't tell me this is one of your jokes because it is not funny."
Looking back sadly at his companion he said "I'm sorry Flutters, but this is no joke something is preventing us from leaving the Everfree forest."
"What? What do you mean? Can't you just get around it using your magic?"
Discord saw the look of fear come across his friends face and grimaced.
Seeing this caused an overwhelming wave of panic to overcome her. Before Discord realized her intentions she had dashed past him and right into the boundary. The reaction was far less severe than the one Discord had. Only causing her to bounce back as if she had hit a brick wall.
"No no no no!" Fluttershy immediately began banging on the invisible wall separating them from her home.
"Fluttershy stop! You're going to hurt yourself!"
She continued to pound on seemingly unable or unwilling to hear Discord's cries.
He grabbed a hold of her waist and then wrapped himself around her ceasing her frantic floundering.
"Shh shh Fluttershy its alright. Just calm down my dear and everything will be alright. I'm still here aren't I? We both know nothing can stop the great me!"
He gave a dramatic flourish with his paw at that last statement. Looking down he noticed that she seemed to have calmed down a bit and had relaxed against him.
"I'm sorry I lost it there for a minute." Whispered Fluttershy as she lay her head against his fur.
Seeing she was alright he gently uncoiled himself from her. As he did this he silently hoped she didn't notice the way he held on just a little bit longer than necessary.
"Look Fluttershy, I'm going to see if this is just centered around this area or if there may be another way out. While I do that I want you to stay here and if anything happens just call and I'll be there."
She gave him a wary look, but nodded her head in understanding. Discord couldn't help but admire her courage.
With one last longing look he took off into the night leaving nothing, but a wisps of smoke in his wake.
"Well little fox I guess its just us two for now." Sighed Fluttershy as she sat down next to him on the cold ground.
She couldn't be sure, but she could have sworn she heard the distant sound of laughter. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He had searched the entire perimeter of the forest and still not one small centimeter of an opening. Whom or whatever had cast this spell was powerful indeed. What he couldn't figure out, however, was why? Someone had gone to an awful lot of trouble to keep both him and Fluttershy in...or out.
Discord wondered who could be the perpetrator, but considering his history the list was long. Another troubling thought was keep Fluttershy in as well. It would have been simple to have cast the spell to keep in only magic users.
While he thought about it his clawed hand detached from his body to knock on his head.
"Ow what was that for?!"
The detached hand started making fluttering motions.
"Fluttershy?"
Giving a thumbs up the hand then continued on to mimic walking and then becoming trapped.
"Of course! Fluttershy said she didn't know how she got here. What if this was all meant for her. To trap her somehow?" mused Discord.
Once this thought sunk in he realized just how long he had been away from Fluttershy. Without a second thought he pulled himself together and swiftly made his way back to his friend. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fluttershy was becoming increasingly worried as the minutes ticked by with no sign of Discord. She squeezed the bundle of fur within her arms for comfort, but to no avail.
Just then she heard a rustling coming from some nearby bushes. Her heart rate kicked into overdrive and shot right into her throat. Meanwhile the fox was finding it increasingly hard to breath as well with the mares arms wound tightly around his frame.
It sounded like drums beating in her ears as the foliage was pulled back to reveal...
"Fluttershy? My dear are you alright?"
"Discord oh thank goodness your back." Fluttershy's nerves were completely shot at that point and she deflated upon seeing Discord.
"Did you find a way out?"
Hearing the hopeful tone in her voice caused him to visibly flinch. Discord had never felt more helpless in his entire life. Not even when he had been imprisoned in stone. Worse yet he was letting down his Fluttershy. Did he just say his Fluttershy?
'Get a grip on yourself. She doesn't belong to you.' thought Discord.
"Ah I'm sorry Fluttershy I didn't."
"Oh" Flutterhy's eyes were downcast and defeat was written all over her face.
"Aww don't look so down Flutters. I'll find a way out, I promise."
Discord leaned forward to gently cup her chin in his paw.
"Look I think I know a place where we can get some answers and maybe find a way out of here. So turn that frown upside down and give your old pal Discord a smile hmm."
As he said this Discord made a point of flipping over so that he was now floating tails up in front of Fluttershy. Snapping his fingers he made an entire clown outfit appear to add to his gag. Completing the outfit was a happy/sad mask that kept changing back and forth.
Fluttershy couldn't help, but giggle at the ridiculous sight he made. She didn't know how, but even when she was scared out of her mind he managed to make her laugh.
"Much better my dear. Might I say that your smile is quite dazzling?"
She tried to hide the growing blush on her face, but failed miserable.
"Oh stop Discord I get it I'll try to cheer up. I just don't understand how this could have happened. It all seems so surreal."
Giving her a sympathetic look Discord said "I know my dear and we'll get through this, together."
"Now why don't we both get some much needed rest. It's been a long day and we aren't gonna solve everything tonight."
"Your right" agreed Fluttershy as she grabbed her fox and made a makeshift bed of leaves.
Frowning Discord questioned "What on earth are you doing?"
With a puzzled look she replied "Making a bed?"
Discord made a disgusted noise and then waved his hand.
"Oh don't be silly Flutters I still have my magic. I can whip up a much better sleeping arrangement than those silly old leaves."
True to his word Discord snapped his claws and two large quilts appeared on top of bedding made of pure cloud fluff. The quilts were made up of an assortment of what appeared to be nonsensical patterns. However, when Fluttershy looked closer she notice that they were actually portrayals of events that had took place with both discord and Fluttershy. Her favorite being the time he taught her to ice skate.
"Oh Discord they are beautiful!" She snuggled quite comfortably in the new bed and for the first time that day looked completely content.
Discord sat back and admired his handiwork before getting into bed himself. He was quite pleased with himself. He wasn't sure he would be able to make her feel better after what they had been through, but the blankets had been a nice touch. His last thought was of how nice it was to fall asleep next to an angel.
Discord stayed where he was not daring to move even an inch. He was in one precarious position and was at a loss as to how to get out of it. Then again maybe he didn't want to.
A flowery scent floated up to his nose and he couldn't help but breathe it in. Relaxing he decided to just let it be and took a look down at the source of the smell. Fluttershy had her hooves wrapped securely around his middle with her face pressed up against his fur. At first he had attempted to gently push her away, but she was locked on tight. While unexpected, there were far worse than being snuggled by an adorable young mare. Besides she was quite ravishing with her mane all mussed and her silky fur pressed up against him.
Fluttershy slowly awoke to a most peculiar, but tantalizing smell. It seemed to be infused with the downy soft pillow she was currently hugging to herself. Strange she didn't remember ever having a pillow this soft. Even stranger was that the pillow seemed to be moving in slow rythmic motions almost like breathing. The startled mare snapped her eyes open only to be met with a pair of golden eyes.
"Goodmorning Flutters. Did you sleep well."
Oh. My. Celestia. She didn't, she couldn't have, but oh she did. She had slept with Discord and not only that. She had had cuddled him in her sleep!
Discord gave her a quizzical look as her entire body turned a slight shade of pink.
"Hey are you ok Flutters? You're starting to look a bit like Pinkie Pie." While this was amusing to him he much prefered her normal buttermilk coloring.
"Oh oh yes. I'm sorry it must just be the heat getting to me." She quickly glanced away as she was met with a hard stare from Discord.
Discord noted that it was actually pretty chilly out, but decided to just let this one slide.
"Well ok Flutters, but we should really be going. We want to make it to the center of the forest before sundown." With a snap of his fingers their bedding was magically teleported away.
No matter how many times she saw it this still surprised Fluttershy. She always wondered where everything went when he poofed it away. It also saddened her a bit to see that beautiful quilt go.
"Um Discord." She hesitantly began.
Pausing a moment he asked "Yes Flutters?"
She suddenly became very shy. Absentmindedly rubbing her hooves together.
"Do you think that maybe. Maybe I could keep the quilt."
He was a bit taken aback at this statment, but he quickly hid his reaction. Plastering a smile on his face he said "Why of course my dear. I knew you would become a fan of my work. It is fantastic if I do say so myself.
Fluttershy giggled a little at the Draconequus' actions. He was always a bit of a drama dragon.
"Here you go and I also whipped up a saddle bag for you to carry it when you get to warm." Fluttershy was a bit surprised, but also greatly flattered at the effort he had put into everything for her. She felt she should do something t repay him, but what?
Discord made to move away, but before he got a chance he was caught. Fluttershy jumped up and gave him a quick peck on his cheek. This caused Discord to get a little warm himself.
"Thank you." Whispered a smiling Fluttershy.
In an attempt to hide his embarassment Discord rushed on ahead.
"Yes well we really must be going and I see what you mean. It does seem to be getting a big hot out here." A fan appeared next to him at that point and began to wave violently.

"So why exactly are we heading to the middle of the forest anyway?" asked Fluttershy.
With a knowing grin Discord responded. "Why to see Vivi of course."
Fluttershy came to a sudden hault. Almost knocking off the fox that had been riding on her back. 'Vivi? who was Vivi?' Thought the startled mare.
"Um Discord who is Vivi?" she asked trying to keep the slight fear out of her voice. She wasn't completely successful however as Discord notice the slight tremor to her voice.
"Why the spirit of the forest silly. She controls everything here and is bound to be the source of the problem. Though why I have no clue." Discord scratched his head in wonder.
"Oh I see. So have you known her long?"
Discord gave her a questioning look. "Well I've seen her from time to time, but I wouldn't really say were close. Why do you ask?"
Fluttershy flinched at being called out on her strange questions. "No no reason I was just curious is all."
Discord stopped to get a better look at her and noticed the slight blush forming.
"Why Fluttershy you aren't jealous are you?"
"What no no of course not!" She vehemently shook her head.
"You are arent' you! Oh you are so adorable Fluttershy, but no need to worry I'm not exactly friends with her. Besides you have me all to yourself here in the forest. Anything you would like to tell me."
The mare just shook her head mortified at being found out.
'Hmm' thought Discord. He had only been teasing, but the idea that Fluttershy could be jealous over him was strange. Also it gave him a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach almost like he swallowed a bunch of butterflies. Which he had done once. It also intrigued him to think the beautiful mare could have feelings for him.
He quickly snuck a look at said mare. She was still blushing slightly, but otherwise following along quietly.
'No way. It was probably just curiousity like she said. Fluttershy was always a bit sensitive so the blush could have been from his teasing, and yet. The possibility almost made him hope.' With that last thought Discord shook it off and got back to the task at hand.
As they were walking along silently they suddenly heard a strange cooing coming from somewhere to the left.
"What was that?" Fluttershy stopped and looked everywhere for the source of the noise.
"Its probably just some bird or another animal. We are in a forest." Supplied Discord.
"Rrright, of course."
Suddenly the fox that had only moments ago been sleeping soundly jumped up and twitched its ears wildly. Almost as if it was listening. Then without warning he jumped off of the mares back and ran off into the woods.
"What no fox come back!" Shouted Fluttershy, frightened for the little animal.
She made to run off after him, but was stopped by a clawed hand on her shoulder.
"Stop I don't want you running off into the forest alone. There are dangerous creatures everywhere." Said Discord calmly.
"But my fox he could be hurt." Fluttershy vainly tried to get away, but couldn't.
"That fox lived here so I'm sure it will be fine. Besides it is probably just going back to its family." He explained.
"Your probably right. I'm sorry I overreacted."
"Its alright and don't worry well get to the bottom of this in no time." With that he let go and began making his way into the forest once again.
"I sure hope your right." After taking one last look into the dark depths Fluttershy sighed and carried on.
Hopping along the street Pinkie made her way through the town. She greeted her friends with the same cheer she always did and generally caused an all out flash mob.
Once she was done in town she made her way to the edge of the forest and the home of one of her very best friends.
"Oh today is a huuuuuh!"
Pinkie came to a screeching halt in front of the little cottage that Fluttershy lived in. The sight that greeted her now was so unexpected that it took her a moment to process it.
"What is going on here?" She slowly took a look at the chaos that was ensuing around Fluttershy's home.
Animals were everywhere and they had completely taken over the house. Birds were flying in and out of windows, doors were left open with plenty of the smaller mammals going in and out. There was even a small family of mice sleeping in the windowsills.
"A party! I can't believe Fluttershy through a party with the animals and didn't invite me." Pinkie huffed.
She pranced by the animals and into the interior of the house.
"Fluttershy why did you not invite me?" She whined only to discover there was no one there.
"Fluttershy?" Pinkie was starting to get a bit suspicious now.
Seeing that Fluttershy was not in the downstairs area she decided to check her room.
"Yoohoo Fluttershy! Whats with all the animals?" Called Pinkie to a mostly empty bedroom as well. Mostly empty because occupying the bed was a large bear.
"Your not Fluttershy." she squealed.
The bear simply glared at her before giving a powerful roar. So powerful that poor Pinkie was blown all the way down the stairs and out the door. She looked stunned for a minute, but then quickly shook herself.
"I've got to go find Twilight. Something has happened to Fluttershy and she didn't invite me to the party!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile Twilight had been working on a new magic spell that she was currently practicing on Spike.
"Uh Twilight are you sure about this." Queried a very nervous spike. He was holding an apple in his claws. An apple that was shaking very violently.
"Sure I'm sure. Now hold still or this could go south real fast." Said Twilight nonchalantly.
"What!?"
The alicorn seemed to ingnore this as she closed her eyes. Slowly a bright light began to pulse around her horn. Mimicking the erratic shaking coming from the small dragon in front of her.
"Twilight!" A frantic Pinkie Pie crashed through the door.
A huge dark cloud poofed around a startled Spike. Blinking the dragon looked down at himself. He was afraid he would see some type of wound from the blast, but sighed in relief when he realized there was none. Until he noticed that his once pruple scales were now a bright, bold, pink. He glared at the retreating alicorn.
"Sorry Spike!" Twilight apologized and for her part managed to look appropriately sheepish.
She quickly turned a death glare on Pinkie.
"What are you doing barging in here like that. I was practicing a very delicate spell and... Pinkie?"
Pinkie just stood staring blankly at Spike.
"Pinkie are you alright" asked Twilight with some concern.
"Buahahahah! Spike is Pink that is so awesome!" The Pink mare doubled over in laughter.
Twilight rolled her eyes at Pinkie's antics. "Seriously Pinkie what did you want?"
Pinkie quickly sobered up.
"Oh right. Twilight I have to tell you Fluttershy is missing!"
"Wait what? What are you talking about? What do you mean Fluttershy is missing?" Twilight was really worried. Pinkie Pie was almost never serious.
"Just what I said. I went over to Fluttershy's cottage like I always do to say hello. When I got there all the animals were going crazy having this massive party. I was so surprised and then I was mad. I mean come on I am the party pony and nobody invited me." Pinkie continued to ramble on.
"Pinkie, pinkie, PINKIE!" said Twilight, shouting to be heard over her friend's rambling.
"Yes?" asked Pinkie innocently.
Twilight took a breath. Trying for some patience.
"Pinkie what were you saying about Fluttershy being missing and skip the party please."
Pinkie Pie looked a little put out, but consented. "Thats what I've been trying to tell you. I went by her house to greet her and when I got there she was gone. The animals were all loose and there was no sign of Fluttershy anywhere. She even left the front door open."
Twilight looked thoughtful for a moment before responding. "That doesn't sound like her at all. I better go investigate."
She headed for the door along with Pinkie, but was quickly stopped.
"Hey! What about me? You can't just leave me here like this!" Cried Spike.
"Oh right, after I change Spike back." Twilight blushed and then hurriedly cast the counter spell. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Master you have returned. How was the mission?" asked an eager Timberwolf.
A lone figure stood just outside the clearing where the Timberwolves had gathered. Pacing slightly the figure seemed almost thoughtful for a moment.
"All is according to plan. No thanks to your screwups!" Shouted an enraged voice.
The Timberwolf shrunk back into the saftey of his pack, fearful of his master's rage.
"Thanks to your inabilitiy to accomplish one simple task I was forced to stick around a lot longer than I planned." His voice was nothing, but a deadly hiss to the Timberwolve's ears.
All of the wolves remained cowering in the shadows of the trees. All except one.
"But master, we had no choice. We had no idea that he would show up. We may be strong, but not that strong."
For one brief moment the shadowy figure seemed to consider this. The entire forest seemed to be holding its breath. Waiting for the uncoming violence that was sure to occur. However, the shadowy figure just smiled in response.
"Yes, maybe your right. I must admit that even I was surprised at his presence. All was not lost, however, and we are still on course. There is only one phase left to complete for our plan to succeed. Maybe just maybe we could use this unexpected development to our advantage."
The wolves all breathed a sigh of relief at this positive reaction.
Noticing this the figure let out an evil grin. "There is only one teensy tiny little favor I must ask of you first."
He walked up to the brave wolf that had spoken up. Looking into the predators eyes he spoke.
"And if you screw this up your firewood."
Flames erupted around the wolves singing all those who didn't get away quick enough.
Two saphire eyes shone with glee at their terror.
"Soon little one soon." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standing inside the once tidy cottage of Fluttershy was Twilight and Pinkie Pie. The two were stunned.
"This is even worse than when I was here earlier. What is wrong with these animals?"
"I don't know Pinkie Pie, but this doesn't look good at all."
Just then a loud crash sounded from the kitchen. The startled mares gasped in surprise before quickly heading to the source of the sound.
"Fluttershy!" The two called in unison.
However, when they got to the kitchen all they saw was a white bunny hanging from the rafters by a piece of cloth.
"Isn't that Fluttershy's bet bunny Angel?" asked Twilight.
"Yes it is." Squealed Pinkie.
She trotted up to the little bunny and helped to untie his paws. She then looked over to Twilight giving her a wink.
"Don't worry Twilight I got the interrogation covered."
Twilight just raised her eyebrows and waited.
"Look here bunny I come here looking for my pal Fluttershy and what do I find? That's right the whole cottage in turmoil and no Fluttershy. Now there's just one thing I want to ask you."
She glared down at the dubious bunny "Why didn't you invite me to the party?"
"Ugh are you serious right now Pinkie?" groaned the other mare.
"I'm never serious" She replied with a goofy grin on her face. "Why do you ask?"
Pushing her out of the way Twilight stepped up to the bunny. "Angel do you have any idea what happened here and where is Fluttershy?"
Angel looked relieved at finally being asked this question. He shook his head vigorously.
"Great, where is she?"
In answer the bunny hopped over to the window and pointed towards the forest. Pinkie Pie was the first to make it to the window.
"Ooh the garden"
This made the bunny smack his head in annoyance. He once again pointed right towards the forest and even moved the mares head with his hands.
"Huh Everfree Forest!?" She cried.
"What? The Everfree Forest?, but Fluttershy would never go in there. Was she alone?" Questioned a worried Twilight.
The bunny furiously shook his head. He then made his paws into claws and gave an evil cackle.
"Oh no Fluttershy went into the Forest with gasp Discord!?" Shouted Pinkie Pie.
"How on earth did you get that out of his miming?" asked Twilight incredulous. "Never mind what I really want to know is why?"
She made her way over to the windowsill as well and looked out into the forest. It was dangerous and if Fluttershy really did go in there with Discord she was going to need the help of the others.
"Pinkie we are going to need more help."
"Way ahead of you Twi." Pinkie saluted her friend, mimicking a palace soldier. She then pranced outside and toward the town.
Just as Twilight made to follow her something stopped her. A small piece of red fur was caught between the windowsill. Normally this wouldn't have been a big thing considering all the animals around, but this fur was somehow different. Making a quick decision Twilight grabbed the scrap of fur before heading off after Pinkie.
"Who knows this might come in handy later, especially considering how weird this whole mystery was."
It had been a while since they lost that stupid fox. Discord couldn't believe she was taking it so hard. It was just an animal, a stupid little animal. She hadn't even known it that long. Yet Fluttershy seemed quite taken with the little bugger. He remembered her constantly stroking the animal with her soft hooves.
'No stop right there Discord you are not going down that road' Discord silently chastised himself.
It seemed like he was telling himself this a lot more as of late. Come on what was he doing? Getting all sappy just because Fluttershy seemed to be paying more attention to some flee bitten animal than him. At least this is what he tried to tell himself. There was still that nagging voice in the back of his mind that wouldn't let it go.
'Is the fox the real problem here or is it your jealousy?'
He tried to push the troubling thought away, but it wouldn't budge.
'I bet your glad he's gone. Now you have Fluttershy all to yourself. Just the way you wanted it.'
Discord visually flinched at this thought. No why would he think that? Sure he didn't exactly get along with the vermin, but he didn't purposely wish him away.
"Discord are you okay?" Whispered Fluttershy a little worried.
"Oh oh yes I am perfectly fine. Don't worry yourself over me." Discord tried to sound confident.
"Well ok as long as your alright." Discord couldn't help, but notice she sounded a bit uncertain.
'Now look at what your doing buffoon. Your making Fluttershy worried. This is hard enough on her as it is.' He thought to himself.
This brought him back to reality. He was trying to help his friend and although he really hated that fox, he would never wish it away. Not when doing so would cause her pain. The very idea was ludicrous. He may be a bit mischievous, but not cruel. It must have been a the slight amount of jealousy talking. A ridiculous jealousy at that. '
'Although seeing Fluttershy jealous was definitely something.' He thought with a grin.
Fluttershy noticed his grin and thought it was quite strange. Just moments ago he was grimacing and now grinning like a fool. It was just like Discord to be so, well, Discord. She was getting worried though. They had been walking for what seemed like hours and everything looked the same to her. How would they know when they got there?
"We're here" Sang Discord.
"Oh" She looked around at the endless landscape of trees. Discord seemed pleased and just stood in place, but whatever it was he was seeing, it was completely lost on Fluttershy.
"Um Discord"
"Yes Fluttershy?"
"Where exactly is here? The center of the forest?" she hesitantly asked.
"Well sort of" Discord replied with a grimace.
He seemed to take a moment to collect himself before continuing. He rubbed the back of his long neck with his clawed hand.
"You see Vivi doesn't exactly like to be disturbed. In order to prevent people from just wandering through she set up a sort of protective entrance. So that only those that had great need could get to her." He looked a little nervous as he said that last part.
Fluttershy was starting to become very nervous now. "You mean she booby trapped the place don't you? What kind of um protection methods did she use here Discord?"
He heaved a great sigh and confessed "Well they change based on person or persons entering it, but its a maze of sorts."
She well remembered the last time she had entered a magical maze.
"Was it by chance the same maze that gave you the idea for yours?" She questioned a bit suspiciously.
Discord definitely looked a bit sheepish now. His face had gone an interesting shade of pink and he was looking everywhere, but at her. "Ok maybe a I took one or two ideas, but I can assure you mine was way more fun than anything she could come up with."
"Much less dangerous too" He mumbled.
Having caught that last part Fluttershy paled. "That's what I'm afraid of."
Noticing this Discord quickly quieted her fears. "Now now Fluttershy remember who you're with. My magic is far superior to any foolish forest imp. Just stick with me and you'll be fine."
To prove his point he wrapped a clawed hand around her and walked through a bush. Once they made it on the other side Fluttershy gasped.
"Its its like another world!" She exclaimed.
The darkness of the forest was now far gone and in its place was a world of light. There was still plenty of plant life, but it was not any kind of plants she had seen. The trees were filled with colors of blue, red, pink. There was a lot of pink. Mountains could be seen in the distance with white tips, but it looked a bit different from the normal snow caps. That and the rocky surface was a lot more jagged and well colorful. The grass they were walking on was shiny and stretchy. It looked like...
"Licorice?"
Fluttershy couldn't hide the surprise in her voice. She looked up to see Discords reaction, but he was currently snacking on part of a gumball bush.
"Mmm yep and the mountains are made of rock candy. Doesn't it all look delicious?"
Fluttershy couldn't take it anymore she burst out laughing. Lost in a fit of giggles she didn't notice Discord's knowing smile. When she finally recovered herself she practically beamed up at Discord.
"Oh Discord it is amazing. Do you think I could try some?" She shyly asked.
"Why of course! I highly recommend the chocolate flowers. This place has just about everything. Although it is lacking in the cotton candy department." He grimaced at this.
Fluttershy just smiled in return. "Oh Discord can't you just conjure some up for yourself?"
"Ah yes well normally I would, but this place is filled with magic and mixing magic is not a very good idea. I would really like to keep that to a minimum around here."
"I see" Fluttershy had just assumed he would be able to use his magic to get them in and out, but it looks like it wasn't going to be that easy after all. To cover up her moment of fear she quickly changed the subject.
"Well I do love chocolate, but I would really like some caramel. It was always my favorite."
Discord brightened upon hearing this. "Really that's wonderful! I know this great little swamp that has the best caramel around. Come on its just a little bit down this way."
Fluttershy started to follow, but hesitated. "Wait shouldn't we be heading towards Vivi?"
Discord shrugged. "Vivi can wait. We have been traipsing through that forest for ages. I think we deserve a little rest don't you?"
"Hmm I guess your right. Well then lead on sire" Fluttershy barely managed to hide her laughter.
"Its about time someone acknowledged my royalness." Discord played along with the joke glad to see her happy. They would be getting to the more dangerous aspects of this place soon enough. Better to let her have her fun now.
The two walked side by side heading to a small pond dripping with a sweet confection.
"This is so delicious!' said Fluttershy around a mouthful of caramel.
Discord couldn't help, but laugh at the sight she made. They were both waist deep in caramel and Fluttershy had bits of caramel everywhere, even in her mane.
"What?" asked Fluttershy confused.
"My dear you have a bit of caramel in your mane" answered Discord who then burst out in a fit of giggles.
It had actually taken him quite a bit of convincing to get her to jump in, but once she had she was overjoyed. It was definitely one of his better ideas. He was a bit worried about pointing out her state of disarray. She might decide to jump back out. However he coudn't resist poking a bit of fun.
"I do? Oh dear I can't believe I got it everywhere.' She was distressed and tried in vain to wipe the sticky substance off.
Shaking his head Discord stopped her with a paw on her hoof. "Don't worry about it. Sometimes the best fun is had when you get a little dirty."
He then gave her a little wink. This made her blush so much it covered her entire body.
"My dear that color is very becoming on you." He giggled.
Fluttershy could only turn her head away in embarrassment and fear. 'You have to stop acting like this if you keep blushing at everything he might notice.' She thought to herself.
'And what exactly will he notice' asked the nasty little voice in her head. It was true she did have some feelings for Discord, but it was nothing more than friendship, wasn't it?
'Oh yes keep telling yourself that, but we both know what it really is.' She couldn't block the voice out no matter how hard she tried.
"Just stop please!" Fluttershy had accidentally shouted that last thought out loud.
"Fluttershy I'm sorry did I bother you that much. You know I was just teasing right?"
Alarmed at having part of her thoughts heard out loud she replied a little too forcefully. "No no I mean its not that, I was just thinking out loud.
"Oh ok well how about some more Caramel?"
She laughed a little at his enthusiasm. "Sure!" -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Aww aren't they adorable" Whispered one Timberwolf.
"Yeah look at em getting all cozy together. Maybe we shouldn't interrupt I mean I just don't think it would be right. Young love is precious." Answered the second Timberwolf.
The two wolves were interrupted by hard thumps on their heads.
"Its sickening is what it is!"
The two startled Timberwolves rubbed their heads in pain.
"I can't stand the disgusting display. Just look at that Draconneques fawning all over her."
"Yeah so sweet." sighed the first wolf.
This earned him another bonk on the head.
"Ow I mean gross very gross." He replied, trying to recover from his mistake.
The second wolf saw this and tried to smooth things over. "Don't listen to Axel boss hes and idiot. We were going to interrupt them like you asked. It was just that we were waiting for the perfect moment you know?"
"Yeah yeah what Bonsai said." Agreed a furiously nodding Axel.
Their leader just looked at them with disgust. "I don't have time for your two imbeciles blathering. Just get out their and do your job you worthless pile of woodchips!"
"Were not woodchips" said a confused Axel.
"Get out!" Was his only reply.
"Were going come on idiot!" Answered Bonsai as he hit his partner over the head.
As they took off you could still here the mutterings of Axel. "But were not woodchips."
Meanwhile their leader was questioning his choice in henchmen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fluttershy was enjoying the warm sun and delicious smells surrounding them. You would think with all of the different sugary treats around the air would seem a bit over immersed in smells, but they blended beautifully.
Just as she was about to comment on the delicious aromas a hard sticky substance connected with her face.
"What the?" She quickly tried to wipe away the offending substance, but it was too thick.
She then heard dark laughter behind her. "Oh Fluttershy how do you like the caramel. I do think it looks even better on you."
"Discord!?" She tried frantically to see anything, but the caramel was stuck like glue.
"Yes its me your friend." He sneered.
"What why would you do that? I know you like jokes, but this is a bit far don't you think?
"No, actually I don't think its far enough." With that said he quickly dumped another load of caramel all over her head.
"Discord!!"
Fluttershy was enraged. 'What on earth had gotten into Discord? They were having so much fun until he had to ruin it all by doing that. The nerve of that guy! Oh, but maybe it was just a joke. She knew very well how he liked to pull pranks. Maybe he didn't realize how mean it really was. However, if that was the case why did he do it once she complained?. The tone of his voice was so malicious too.' Fluttershy's thoughts were going in circles and she knew it, but she just couldn't bring herself to be angry with him. He had been so gentle and sweet the entire time. Why would he change now.
"Fluttershy! I heard you call me whats wrong?" He actually seemed worried. As well as completely oblivious.
She had begun to calm down, but now the rage was back in full force. 'How could he stand there and act like nothing had happened?'
"Why you you!?"
"Fluttershy?" He seemed closer now. "What happened why are you all covered in caramel? You didn't fall in did you?" He laughed a little at this last statement.
Fluttershy just fumed silently still unable to get the sticky goo off.
Discord noticed her struggle and quickly wiped the offending mess away. "There now you can see better. So what happened anyway? I heard you calling my name."
She couldn't hold it in any longer and she exploded.
"Of course you heard me calling you! What did you do run away and then come traipsing back to make me think I was delusional? I'm not stupid Discord!"
She was fuming he could see that, but he had no idea why. What was she talking about? It was almost as if she thought it was his fault.
"Fluttershy my dear I don't understand. Are you saying I did this?" He questioned innocently.
She got right up into his face flapping her wings like mad. "Of course I am! You threw that pile of caramel right at my face. When I questioned it you dumped even more on my head!"
Discord was completely unprepared for her rage or her accusations.
"My dear I really don't understand. I've been clear across the other side of the pond. Why do you think I did it?"
"Why why!? I know you did it because you told me so and you laughed at me! Why would you do that and quit calling me that!" She said while poking him with her hoof.
"Look Fluttershy I don't know whats going on, but I would never do that honest!" He made a halo appear over him and tried his best to look like an innocent angel.
"Really like you would never try to take control over me and my friends!? Like you wouldn't try to take over Equestria and turn our world upside down!" She really didn't meant to say that, but it just came out.
The stricken look on his face made her wince, but she couldn't back down now.
"Is that really what you think of me?" The pain in his voice was evident in the whispered words.
When he received no answer in return he just turned his head and in a broken voice whispered "I thought we were friends."
There was a slight quiver in her voice, but she pressed on. "I thought so too."
She saw one last pained glimpse of the Draconneques' face and then he was gone.
A single tear ran down the Pegasus' face. "What have I done."
The tears fell like rainfall as she slowly made her way through the candy forest. With all the happy colors around you would think her spirits would be much lighter. However, Fluttershy didn't notice anything other than the aching emptiness she felt deep within. Why had she done that? There was no reason to go off on him like that, but she had just been so mad! Which come to think of it was really unusual for her. Maybe it was just the anxiety and stress that had been building up from this trip. After all it was just a harmless prank. There was no need to be that angry, but why did he have to act like that?
She was so engulfed in her own thoughts that she didn't notice the ominous clouds that had set over the forest. The once colorful array of trees now grew into strange and disturbing shapes. Tendrils of smoke billowed out from everywhere and nowhere. Wrapping themselves around everything in their wake.
Finally Fluttershy was so fatigued from all her crying and the days events that she lay down right where she was. Her eyelids got heavy and no matter how hard she fought to stay awake she couldn't stop the darkness as it descended upon her.
"What is happening to me?"
She awoke surrounded in darkness. It was like being swallowed up by a black hole. Nothing as far as the eye could see and even her voice echoed.
"Hello? Is anybody there? Discord?"
The echoing sound did nothing to calm her nerves. She began to walk, but no matter where she went it seemed like an endless abyss without the slightest trace of light. When she thought she couldn't take the silence any longer a voice came from just behind her.
"Hello there Fluttershy."
"What? Who are you?"
"A friend"
These short clipped answers were a little suspicious and quite unusual, but then again everything here was.
"What is it that you want?" She asked a little shakily. Only one word was whispered back.
This pain he felt wouldn't go away and it was excruciating. Why did he even care? He was Discord! He didn't care what anyone thought of him. Especially not some stupid, ugly, beautiful, kind ugh. He couldn't even think badly of her, but to know that was how she really thought of him. It really hurt.
He held back a sniffle and instead knocked down a nearby gumdrop tree. A few butterscotch flies fled.
Everything was going so swimmingly until that stupid incident. Why had she been so mad in the first place. It was highly unusual to see her so upset at anyone. Thought he guessed he kind of deserved it for his past deeds. Still she had seemed to not care before and even defended him when no one else gave him the time of day. So why was now any different? Even weirder was why was she covered in caramel? She had accused him of throwing it at her, but he wasn't even near her when it supposedly happened.
"Fluttershy would never lie. Would she?" He asked no one in particular.
As he looked up he noticed the darkening of the sky and how all of the plants seem to shrink in on themselves.
"Oh no!"
He had completely forgotten about the time. No matter how hurt or angry he might be at Fluttershy he would never leave her alone at night here.
"AHH!"
"That sounded like Fluttershy."
Without another word he took off in the direction of the scream.
Fluttershy awoke on a scream. She frantically looked around for the source of the voice, but it seemed to have vanished, along with the dark abyss. Now she seemed to be back in the forest. Unfortunately it was still too dark to even see an inch in front of her face. Not knowing what else to do she curled up into a ball and sobbed quietly into her hooves.
"Fluttershy!"
At the sound of Discord's voice she jumped up.
"Discord? I'm here!"
She heard some rustling to her right and suddenly she was wrapped into a tight embrace.
"Oh Fluttershy are you alright? Don't scare me like that!"
Her nerves were so shot all she managed to do was grab onto him tighter and sob into his shoulder.
"You have to be careful. I'm sorry I didn't tell you before, but this place gets kind of dangerous at night."
As he said this he absently swatted a few killer maple bees that had flown a little too close.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean it I swear! Please don't leave me ever again." She sobbed out in response.
Discord was a little taken aback at her statement, but did his best not to show it. Instead of answering he just leaned down and kissed her forehead. Then cautiously tucked her head back down to his chest and rubbed her back as she sobbed.
The two stood like that for what seemed like hours, but was likely only a few minutes.
Once she was all cried out she lifted her head and said two words.
The two seemed to come to an agreement not to speak of the incident that happened between them that night. However, try as they might things were still a little awkward around them by the time they made it to the mirrors.
A large silver and glass door hung right in the middle of the forest and Discord stepped right up to it.
"Um Discord what are you doing?
He looked back a little startled at hearing her voice after so long.
"Oh well this is the entrance to the hall of mirrors." He stated matter of factly. As if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
She gave him a questionable look in return.
"You mean we are going in there?"
He shook his head.
"Its the only way through. You do want to get out of her don't you?"
"Yes!" she shook her head vehemently.
Hopping up in front of him she began to enter.
"Woah woah! Hang on a second there little filly. You don't want to just go traipsing in. Better to stick as close to me as possible. This place is dangerous and it is very easy to get lost."
She gave him a dubious glance. "I think I can take care of myself enough to not get lost. I'm not two."
He sighed. "I know that, but trust me one wrong move in here and you may never see the light of day again. So please just humor me and stay close."
The pleading in his eyes was her undoing. She was a little uncomfortable being so close after their fight, but if he thought it was necessary than it probably was.
Side by side they walked into the doorway. Neither of them completely sure what they were getting into.
Once inside a booming sounded all around and the doorway they had just walked through crashed shut.
"No! Were trapped!"
A thunderous voice drowned out her protest.
"You dare enter my domain?"
Discord stepped forward. "Yes we are only seeking help from the great Vivi."
"She does not take visitors! You stupid ugly Draconequus!"
Fluttershy did not like the way she was talking about her friend and before she could rethink it she shouted.
"Don't you dare call him stupid! He is the most intelligent and beautiful creature there is! Besides we need to talk to her its an emergency." She ended in a squeak.
The ground beneath began to quake and moan. Screams were bouncing off the walls and it took Fluttershy a moment to realize they were coming from her.
The cruel voice boomed again in laughter as the Pegasus' limbs quaked beneath her. The vibrations seem to breath life into the ground as it began to take on a life of its own.
She could see Discord's horrified face as he reach for her, but they were soon pulled apart as a crack rapidly began to form and spread all around her. Ice shards rained down upon the Draconequus forming a crude cage. The last thing she remembered was the roaring whoosh of air as she fell into a dark abyss.
Fluttershy awoke to the sound of trickling water and the dampening of her mane.
"Where am I" she queried groggily.
Her words echoed back to her in the empty space. The echoes seemed to mock her as she slowly got up. Deciding to ignore the disturbing sound she looked around in an attempt to orient herself.
Solid ice surrounded her, almost suffocating in its intensity. Curiously the walls of ice did not give off the normal amount of cold air as was expected. Instead they gave off a slightly warm breeze.
"Trees that grow candy and now warm ice. What next?"
Rubbing her leg more out of anxiousness than need for warmth she began to make her way along the ice halls.
"Well at least I won't be freezing while in these icy catacombs for who knows how long."
As she walked the endless hallway she started to hear what she though were muffled voices.
"What is that? Is someone there?" She called out fruitlessly.
Nothing, but her own echo could be heard in the isolated halls.
"I could have sworn I heard something. Maybe the creepy silence is finally getting to me." Lamented Fluttershy.
She began to walk on an endless icy path for what seemed like hours until she finally cracked. Slumping down she put her head in her hooves.
"I give in this is hopeless. Oh where is Twilight when you need her she would be able to find a way out of this maze."
As she said this the whispering she heard earlier began to get louder. Determined to get to the source of the problem this time she galloped toward it. She came to an abrupt stop as she almost collided headfirst into one of the icy walls.
"This is where the sound is coming from I know it! So why is there nothing here?"
Just then the surface of the ice began to ripple like moving water. Soon blurry images began to appear and it didn't take her long to recognize them.
"Twilight! Twilight please help I'm trapped somewhere in the Everfree forest with Discord and we oh.. You can't hear me can you?"
Her cries fell on deaf ears. The Twilight on the wall seemed completely oblivious to her. Looking closer it seemed as though Twilight was reading something.
"Twilight!" came a rough voice.
"Yes Spike did you get the book?" asked Twilight anxiously.
"Of course and the girls are doing all they can to look for answers too. Anything else I can do?"
"Yeah help me look up the animal this hair came from" She held up the piece of hair in her hoof.
Spike looked a little perplexed.
"A hair? Twilight are you ok I thought we were looking for Fluttershy and Discord?"
Without looking up from her many piles of books she quickly shook her head. "Yes we are, but this piece of hair could give us a clue as to actually what or whom we are dealing with."
"Um ok"
Spike started looking a bit anxious "Not that I don't believe you or anything, but how exactly is that piece of hair supposed to tell us anything? It could have come from any number of the animals living around Fluttershy's house. I mean lets be honest here, there is nothing that should make you think that hair is unusual."
Finally looking up from her books Spike got a good view of her face. She looked worn out, but full of determination.
"I know Spike, but we don't have many leads to go on and I have a strong hunch that there is something off about it. I just know it. So please, trust me on this."
The pleading look finally got to him. "Alright I do trust you Twilight and I know that you will find a way for us to get her back.
Satisfied with his answer Twilight began searching over her books again.
Spike decided it was best not to remark on her ragged state. It was obvious she was intent on finding Fluttershy, even at a cost to her own health.
"Oh dear Twilight you look awful" moaned Fluttershy.
She gave up on trying to get her friends to hear her long ago and the picture had already faded away.
She sank onto the floor and once again bemoaned her fate. "I am so sorry everyone. I didn't mean to make you all so worried."
One lone tear fell down before she shook herself free of the self pity.
"There is no time for this now I have to find a way back to Discord. The longer I stay here like this the longer others are going to suffer because of me"
"Wallowing in self pity once again no doubt."
Fluttershy jumped at the harsh and somewhat familiar voice.
"Who said that?"
"Why I bet that silly mare is even crying"
Fluttershy quickly realized exactly whom that voice belonged to and that it was not addressing her.
"Oh really Discord and here I thought you had a thing for that pony." This voice was angelic and very similar to the booming angry one that had stopped them when they first entered here.
Following the voices Fluttershy came upon another ice wall that now held a watery image of Discord and a Mare. A stunningly beautiful mare at that.
Discord sat perched upon an elaborate throne of ice. Next to him was a mare that shone an almost translucent white with shimmering gold hair and eyes that shone black as night. It almost hurt Fluttershy to look at her, but her eyes were soon drawn back to Discord.
He sat smiling and looked almost happy to be in the mare's company.
"Discord can you hear me?" she called tentatively.
"Of course my dear."
Fluttershy almost jumped in delight at finally having contacted someone, but her happiness was short lived.
"That silly mare is nothing compared to you."
She couldn't have heard him right. Discord wouldn't do that, not after everything they had been through. No it must be a trick. She had been fooled before. Maybe it wasn't even him.
Just then the Discord in the picture poofed up a tall glass of chocolate milk. Very characteristic of him and not a type of magic that many others could or, even would, choose to perform.
"No Discord its not really you. This is some sort of trick and I'm not buying it." She shook her head vehemently.
As she was reassuring herself the beautiful mare in the mirror slowly turned to face her and grinned. "Oh yes Fluttershy this is all too real."
"Your lying!"
Something flickered in the mare's eyes at this, but she quickly hid it behind a mask of indifference.
"I am? You think you know Discord better than I?"
Fluttershy flinched "Well"
"Then prove it!"
"What what do you."
Before she could voice her question everything went dark and the mare's laughter echoed across the icy halls
Fluttershy’s heart nearly stopped as a heavy weight came down upon her shoulders.
“AHH!”
Swinging around she threw her hoof into her would be assailant.
“What the? Ow! Fluttershy what do you think you are doing?”
Heart pounding, she slowly opened her eyes only to see Discord looking a little worse for wear.
“Discord?” stuttered a somewhat flustered Fluttershy.
“No its spike, who did you think it was?”
Discord stood with his arms crossed, ready to continue his tirade, when he was knocked to the ground by and overenthusiastic mare.
“Oh Discord it’s you! It’s really you! I’m so glad to have you back.” Fluttershy’s death grip on Discord only increased as she gave way to sobs.
A little uncomfortable at the mare’s strong reaction, Discord began to slowly extract himself from the unexpected hug.
“Yes, well I’m here now. No need to get all hysterical darling.
He patted her head gently and then began to brush off any lingering dirt.
Fluttershy sniffed back the rest of her tears.
“Discord are you alright you seem to be acting a little strange.” She asked tentatively.
“Hmm, oh yes sorry darling I’m just a little preoccupied. This place is a tad dangerous for the unwary you know.” Said Discord Flippantly.
Something was definitely off that was for sure, but Fluttershy decided it was probably just this crazy journey. She knew that it was definitely getting to her and making her act out of sorts.
“Well now that we’ve found each other again its best we get going. You don’t want to linger to long in a place like this.” Chided Discord before walking off in the opposite direction from Fluttershy.
Not wanting to get left behind once again Fluttershy galloped after the quickly disappearing Draconequus.
“Twilight! Twilight!”
Twilight jumped at hearing Spike call her name, almost knocking over the pile of books surrounding her.
“Yes Spike, what is it? Did you find anything?” she questioned hopefully.
“I’m not sure, but I think you should definitely take a look at this”
He quickly presented her with the hair sample she had given him to examine.
Twilight quickly snatched up the hair and reading from Spike. Before she could examine it further she noticed Spike’s pale complexion.
“Spike, are you alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Spike just shook his head in response and anxiously pointed to the reading.
Twilight quickly scanned the document and almost dropped everything by the time she got to the end.
“This can’t be right! Spike are you sure this wasn’t a mistake?” She was very afraid that it wasn’t.
“Not a chance! I took it to Celestia herself.”
“We’ve got to tell the others. Spike go and get Rarity and Applejack. I’ll go after Pinkypie and Rainbowdash, we have to warn everyone.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Discord do you know where exactly we are going? Everything looks the same.” Fluttershy couldn’t shake the feeling that they had been walking for hours and getting nowhere.
“Of course darling, don’t you worry your pretty little head.”
Not for the first time Fluttershy wondered at his calling her darling. It wasn’t bad exactly, but normally he would call her flutters or even my dear, but not darling. Even stranger he hadn’t made some silly magic or tried playing a trick on her once, not once!
She was about to comment on this fact when she remembered the way he reacted to her earlier questioning. Fluttershy really did not want to fight with him again, especially not in such a strange place. So instead she kept quiet and told herself it was just the stressful situation they were in.
Discord gave Fluttershy a quick glance before clearing his throat.
“So how are you holding up darling?”
“Oh uh just fine I guess. I just hope we can get out of here without running into that mare again.”
“Mare?” questioned Discord.
Looking a little stunned at his question she answered “You know that mare that we saw before we were dropped into these ice catacombs.
“oh right, right. I guess with everything that’s happened I kind of forgot” He looked a little sheepish as he answered her.
Fluttershy couldn’t help the slight happiness she felt at his apparent disregard for the mare.
‘No what am I thinking were in danger I shouldn’t be worrying about some mare and what Discord does or doesn’t feel for her.’
“Hmm you look a little flushed darling you wouldn’t happen to be jealous, now would you?” questioned a very smug looking draconequus.
“What no! Of course not” assured Fluttershy.
Chuckling Discord stopped walking and winked at a very flustered Fluttershy.
“Come now my darling I am a very beautiful draconequus. You said so yourself.”
Fluttershy just gaped at him completely mortified.
“I I didn’t mean it like that Discord and you know it!”
He just gave her a look that said he didn’t believe her before turning around and conjuring a dining table complete with chairs.
“What are you doing Discord?”
Fluttershy was used to his strange behaviors, but even for him this was highly unusual.
“Aren’t we supposed to be getting out of here? You said it yourself it is very dangerous to linger here for long.”
A look of annoyance quickly crossed Discord’s face, but he quickly hid it behind a devious smile.
“What could possibly be more dangerous than me, hmm? Come on now darling you look exhausted why don’t we just stop for a bit and eat?”
Just then her stomach growled causing the mare to blush a deep crimson.
“Oh alright I guess it couldn’t hurt to rest for a minute and eat.” Conceded Fluttershy.
“Excellent!”
With a flourish he quickly seated the wary mare and conjured up a feast of wild berries, oats, salad, and numerous pies. Fluttershy even spotted applejack’s famous apple pie.
Without another word they each dug in and began to devour the entire meal.
Once finished, the now full Fluttershy beamed at Discord and thanked him.
“It was nothing darling”.
“You’ve got something on your cheek”.
Discord gave her a small smile before reaching over with his napkin and wiping a small berry stain from her lip.
Fluttershy blushed and looked away.
“You look lovely when you blush darling”. Whispered Discord.
This caused Fluttershy to blush even more and Discord chuckled at her response.
“You know Fluttershy there is something I have been meaning to ask you for quite some time.”
This caught Fluttershy off guard. What could he possibly have to ask her?
“Yes Discord?”
He fidgeted a little before responding.
“I know this isn’t the best time or place, but under the circumstances I would like to get this off my chest before anything else happens.”
‘Oh no! It was that other mare wasn’t it? He was going to tell her that he was already with her and that they could only be friends’ thought Fluttershy.
Discord nervously looked down at his paws before twisting his wrist and presenting Fluttershy with an elegant box.
She gasped in astonishment. ‘No he couldn’t be doing what she thought he was doing could he?’
“Fluttershy my darling will you…..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “What do you mean Fluttershy is in danger!” yelled Rarity?
“Its Discord isn’t I knew it was him!” raged Rainbowdash.
“Quiet!” yelled Twilight.
Twilight shook her head in exasperation. This was going to be difficult to explain, but they needed to know what was going on so they could be prepared.
“No it’s not Discord it’s something much worse”
“What could be worse than Discord?” grumbled Rainbowdash.
Deciding blunt would be best Twilight spoke “It’s a kitsune”.
“A What!?” The entire gang save for Spike and Twilight screeched.
“A kitsune is a magical being, specifically a fox that is a trickster. Some have even been known to shapeshift.” Explained Spike.
“Let me get this straight darling you are saying that Fluttershy is in danger from a fox?”
“Bahahhaa a fox really? Why don’t we just go and kick his butt? What is he going to do kill us with fluffiness hahaha” Rainbowdash erupted into hysterical laughter.
Twilight rolled her eyes in exasperation. “No not just a fox a kitsune. A kitsune is a magical being that loves to trick others and get into mischief. This one however is known for being far more dangerous. Not only that, but I believe he is the one who put the barrier around the forest.”
“But why would he want Fluttershy? I mean she would hurt a fly silly.” Questioned Pinky.
“Exactly darling, not that I don’t believe you, but it is a bit of a stretch.”
Twilight hung her head. “I’m not exactly sure, but we know he was at Fluttershy’s cottage before she disappeared and whatever he has in mind it can’t be good if he went to all the trouble of trapping her and Discord in the Everfree Forest.”
“So what are we gonna do? We can’t just let him take Fluttershy!” yelled Rainbowdash.
With a determined gleam in her eye Twilight nodded “I know and I’ve got a plan”.
A delicate caress on his cheek woke him. He opened blinking eyes to the sight of the most beautiful mare he had ever seen.
"Sweetheart?" he croaked.
"Yes, my darling is there anything you desire?"
Discord couldn't believe his ears was she really asking him this? He gulped and took carefully rose to his full height. Reaching out his lions paw he gently stroked the side of her face.
"Why sweetheart you know the only thing I could ever want is..." he paused dramatically as the beautiful mare gazed up at him longingly. With a quick jerk of her mane he pinned her to the ground.
"Your hide in a cage, now where is fluttershy you filthy excuse for a mare!" he spat.
"Oh darling, you seem tense, is something wrong?" she giggled prettily. Without even the slightest trace of fear she reached up once again to stroke his head.
"Why don't you just sit back down and I'll get you something to drink. Chocolate milk I presume?"
Her casualness astounded Discord. Did she really think that he was just going to sit back and allow her to kidnap his precious fluttershy?
'Wait, did he really just say his precious fluttershy? She wasn't his anything let alone...' Shaking his head before he got too sidetracked, Discord returned to the task at hand.
Listen Era, I don't have time for your games. Just tell me where Fluttershy is and we will be on our way.
The angelic mare merely raised her eyebrows at his possessive tone.
'hmm maybe there really was something between the two' she thought disdainfully.
"Well well, Discord, I didn't know that the little mare meant so much to you. You have it so bad you don't even have the time for any of our games. That's not the Discord I knew, then again the discord I knew wouldn't be spending time with these silly little ponies either."
"Enough! Just tell me where fluttershy is or I'll.."
"You'll what?" she sneered.
"Just admit it Discord. Your washed up. I bet you you don't even play tricks anymore. Your a pathetic excuse for a draconeques and its all because you had to go and become ensnared by that little wretch!" Era was livid and her jet black eyes were taking on an unnatural glow.
"What?" he shouted, incredulous. The mare wasn't making any sense and even worse she was working herself up into a chaotic mess of anger and uncontrolled magic. Normally he adored the mix of chaos and magic, but in this case he much preferred getting out of their in one piece. Era was a force to be reckoned with, even with his chaos magic, he barely stood a chance a forest spirit. He'd have to play it cool and keep her distracted long enough for him to find a way out of here alive.
Deciding it might be best to try playing it cool for a bit, he did his best to sound casual. "Era, what on earth are you talking about? I am the master of games. I just didn't want to hurt your feelings too much when you lost is all. I know how you mares can get when you don't have it your way." He quipped.
She raised an eyebrow disbelieving. "So your saying you aren't mad at me?" she asked suspicously.
"What of course not, I merely wanted to rile you up a bit darling." he chuckled a bit.
"You are so cute when you're angry." he teased. Discord had to force himself not to gag while he said this.
Still suspicious she cautiously made her way back down to the ground and closer to Discord.
"You mean you really don't care about the mare?"
Discord was still a little confused as to why she cared so much, but as long as she wasn't working herself up he'd say whatever he had to.
"Psh! Me? Care about some pony? Bahahaha, Era you are a tease. As if I, Lord of Chaos, would stoop so low as to become friends with a pony." He burst out laughing while conjuring a shirt that had a pony with a big X over its image. At the same time he made a dunce cap appear on top of Era's head.
This seemed to do the trick and calmed her down. She began to smile and shook off the cap.
"Oh Discord I knew it couldn't be true. When that wretched creature came here spouting about you and how you'd fallen for some meek little mare, I simply had to know. He was extremely convincing, but I knew there would be no way in all of Equestria that you could have actually fallen in love with her." Era snorted at this last statement.
Meanwhile Discord's jaw had dropped completely to the floor, literally.
"Did..did you just say....l..love? he stammered incredulous.
A wicked grin spread across her face. "Yes, darling, I did say love. Isn't it absolutely ridiculous?" she shook her head.
Meanwhile Discord was still recovering from the shock. "It is a..absolutely ri...ridiculous."
'Come on Discord get it together! Before she finds out you are faking and you and fluttershy are both doomed!' he mentally scolded himself.
"As you said, why on earth would I associate with those boring creatures, especially when I have the likes of you to play with." he bluffed.
"Exactly what I said darling." Era took the opportunity to sidle up a little closer.
"Besides, who on earth would think that you could possibly find someone better than..me." she cooed.
Discord tried his best to back away casually.
"Of course my dear, that silly mare is nothing compared to you." he spoke in a saccharine sweet voice.
This caused Era to beam ecstatically.
"Now umm..what was it you were saying about some creature telling you these horrendous lies about me?" he hesitantly queried.
Era seemed to be a little dazed. "Hmm? Oh yes darling the fox. He fairly barged in here just the other day raving about how you had fallen madly in love with some mare named Fluttershy. Ugh the nerve of some creatures."
He was still a little disconcerted at the madly in love part, but chose to focus on the more important bit of information. "So true Era, some creatures have no class. What am I to assume was his reason for bothering my little...em...flower?" he smiled forcefully.
With a forced sigh Era fairly spat. "Oh the wretched fox was supposedly in love with the mare himself. I tell you Discord the poor taste of some creatures."
'What! How dare this....this....fox come and try to steal his lo...eh...friend!' Discord mentally screamed.
Era frowned at seeing the look on Discord's face when she said this, but then got a wicked gleam in her eye and fairly floated closer to him. "It is so good that you really don't care for this mare. I do hate to see heartache on any pony."
Discord almost snorted in disbelief. "What do you mean?"
Smirking she purred. "Well it just so happens that the mare in question will be getting married today."
