I was lonely. It was Hearths Warming Eve and everypony else had family and friends to go to but me. It was just... depressing. I wanted somepony to hang out with.
"Ugh..." I mumbled, sighing.
I wandered around the quiet house. The others had all went to visit their homes and Fluttershy was away in Cloudsdale.
I decided to make some food. I pulled out the ingredients for a cake. If the other ponies weren't here that just meant they got no cake.
"Okay so I need two eggs, a cup of sugar..." I listed off the ingredients and nearly ran into Roseluck. I Caught Roseluck around the waist so she didnt hurt herself. She blushed.
"Sorry Roseluck." I said, straightening her up.
She seemed surprised. "Why aren't you with your family, Discord?"
"Oh. I don't exactly have a family" I looked down, then back up.
"I'm guessing you want some help?" She asked me.
I nodded and she got the rest of the ingredients together with me. I was happy to finally have some company. We followed the instructions and mixed everything together. At one point I got flour all over Roseluck. She laughed and flicked some at me.
"Hey!" I protested, then grinned.
I flicked more flour on her. Pretty soon we were both covered from head to hoof in flour. We were laughing when the door opened.
"Nooooo! Not more ghosts!" Fluttershy cried, fleeing from the room in terror.
We laughed and ran out to her.
"Fluttershy! It's us, Discord and Roseluck" I said.
"No! I dont believe you!" Fluttershy was hiding behind a laughing Rainbow Dash.
"Fluttershy. They just have flour all over." Rainbow explained.
Fluttershy peeked around the rainbow pegasus' shoulder. "You sure?" she asked.
Rainbow Dash nodded and she came out.
"So why are you two back?" I asked.
"Fluttershy forgot something and asked for me to come back with her." Rainbow Dash explained
"Oh Roseluck! You have my letter right?" Roseluck nodded. "O-okay, so you're here for three days correct?" Again she nodded. She smiled and Fluttershy walked away, talking to Rainbow Dash.
"Well that was entertaining." I laughed and we walked back to the kitchen.
We continued to make and finish the cake. I put it in the oven and sighed.
"Finally done." I said.
Roseluck nodded. We walked into the living room and sat on the couch to wait for the cake to finish.
"So you're staying here with Fluttershy too?" I asked, making conversation.
Roseluck nodded. "Yes. I'm going to be here for the holidays, to help with her critters."
We sat and talked for a good half hour, getting to know each other better. I learned she grew roses with her friends Daisy and Lilly, as well as she loved to go on midnight strolls around Ponyville.
The timer dinged and we jumped up. We walked to the kitchen and I opened the oven.
"It smells good." I said.
Ros grabbed the oven mitts and pulled out the cake. After he set it down to cool, we got the frosting tools.
"What colors?" I asked.
"Red and pink, of course." she replied.
I pulled out the red and pink food coloring and mixed it into the frosting. The cake was cool enough now. We frosted the cake and smiled at our work.
"I say we did good." I said. "Not as good as the Cakes, but it'll do."
Roseluck nodded. "I'll be right back." she left the kitchen and I cleaned up the mess we made.
A few moments later she returned. "The cake looks really good." I said.
She nodded again. "let's have some then." She smiled a smile that made me melt.
I cut into the cake and placed a piece on her plate, and one on mine. We ate and talked about Hearths Warming wishes we have.
"I've always wanted to be kissed under the mistletoe." Roseluck sighed.
"Rose. I have a present for you." I said.
She looked up, surprised. "You do?" she asked.
I nodded. "Follow me." I stood up and she followed.
I led her to the living room and stood in the middle of it. She stood near me. I faced her and pulled her close. She let out a small gasp at the sudden closeness. My heart pounded in my ears. I could feel her breath on my lips, we were that close. I finally closed the distance and kissed her. Her eyes widened and she gasped again, parting her lips. I closed my eyes and, after a moment we pulled away. I could feel my face redden.
"Look up, Rose." I whispered softly.
She looked and was shocked. There was mistletoe above our heads. She looked back to me.
Princess Luna was sad. Hearts and Hooves day was Tomorrow and she didn't have a special somepony. She sighed, dejected. "If only i had somepony to spend it with." It was almost midnight. She was pacing her room with nothing to do. It's been well over a thousand years since she had anypony to call special. It's true she thought of 'him' every day while she was banished to the moon. Even in her angered state, she still felt love for that earth pony. Much to her dismay, and frustration, she could not remember his name. She stomped her hoof angrily. "Am I not allowed true happiness? Am I not allowed a special somepony? Am I cursed to live this long life alone?" She collapsed in sobs onto the floor of her bedroom. "What is a Princess of the night to do?" She wiped her tears. "Well duty calls." She sighed, casting her dream walking spell. Luna wandered the dreams of many ponies. The newly crowned Princess Twilight dreamed of her new life. It wasn't a nightmare. Little Pipsqueak dreamed of what he would be for next Nightmare Night. Pinkie Pie dreamed of a party she would plan soon. She waved as Luna passed through. "Hi Princess!" She yelled. "Hello, Pinkie Pie." She forced a smile. "Aww what's wrong Princess Luna?" Pinkie asked. Luna sighed. "Well, it's just.... I do not have a special somepony to spend Hearts and Hooves day with." "I'm sorry Princess." Pinkie smiled. "Would you like a party instead?" Luna shook her head. "No thank you Pinkie Pie. Thank you anyway. I must return to my duties. Goodbye." "Bye!" Pinkie waved with a grin. Luna left the pink pony's dream and looked through more dreams. Filthy Rich dreamed of money of course. Pound and Pumpkin cake dreamt of Mr. and Mrs. Cake bringing them toys. More and more dreams she passed through. More and more she felt lonely. There were couples dreaming of what they would do on Hearts and Hooves day more than any other dreams. She wandered through more dreams, feeling sadder with each one. Finally she came across a dreamer in Ponyville. This one was different. This ones dreams were unintelligible. She couldn't make any sense from it. She did manage to catch a glimpse of a colt before she was forcefully ejected from the dream. She stumbled to the ground. "What in Equestria was that?" Luna shook her head. She was back in Canterlot castle. "Where have i seen that colt before?" She scratched her mane. "I shall visit Ponyville when Celestia takes over." She looked out the window. She had an hour before Celestia raised the sun. She cast the spell again, finishing her duty of protecting everyponies dreams. Finally dawn arrived and she returned to the castle. "You may go now sister. I shall watch the day." Celestia said after Luna appeared. "Of course, sister. I am going to travel to Ponyville. I have some business to attend to." Luna stepped to the doors. "I will see you when you return, Luna." Luna nodded, opening her wings and taking flight. She thought the entire way of who this mysterious colt could be. She would know him when she saw him, but who could force her out of her domain? Who had the power to do that other than maybe Celestia and Discord? What would she do when she met this colt? Probably approach him and talk to him. She has never entered his dreams before, so he must be new to Ponyville. He might be a foreigner from Saddle Arabia or Hoofington. She didn't explore the dreams of the ponies there. It wasn't long until she landed in Ponyville. She watched the ponies around her bow as they realized who she was. She paid no attention, scanning the plaza. Not here. She searched near the Boutique, Sugarcube corner, the library, and even town hall. Nothing. It was proving to be difficult to find this colt. "Princess Luna!" Somepony called out. She turned. "Oh. Hello Pinkie Pie." Luna smiled. "Are you on a quest to find a special somepony??" The pink earth pony hopped up and down. "Not... exactly. I'm trying to find somepony familiar." She looked around. "Oh okay. I can see you're busy. Goodbye Princess!" Pinkie hopped away. "How can i hope to find him here?" She mumbled. "Princess!" Another voice called out. Luna sighed, turning toward the voice. "Hello, Twilight Sparkle." "I didn't know you were in town! If I had, I would have greeted you when you got here!" Twilight said excitedly. Luna waved her hoof. "No need. I am just looking for something." She said, continuing to scan the walking ponies. "Continue with what you were doing, Twilight Sparkle." "Oh." Twilight nodded. "Good luck Princess!" She walked away. Luna sighed, beginning to give up all hope of finding the mysterious colt. She hung her head, turning to head back to Canterlot. "Princess?" She heard for the third time in 10 minutes. She sighed, lifting her head and smiling, turning to face the source of the voice. When she did, her heart skipped a beat. "It is you!" The brown earth pony from the dream grinned. "I though i recognized you! You were in my dream last night. I am sorry about the shove though. You know how i can get." Lunas eyes widened as she remembered who she was talking to. She struggled to speak, but couldn't find words. "Princess Luna? Are you okay? Do you need water?" The colt walked up to her. "D... Doctor Whooves? I-is it really you?" She walked around him, examining to make sure. Same brown coat. Same brown mane. Same hourglass cutie mark. Same age. She faced him. "How is this possible? You haven't aged a day. What magic do you poses?" Dr. Whooves laughed. "My dear Princess, you forget. I have my time machine remember?" Tears sprang into Lunas eyes. "I thought i would never see you again! All of my years on the moon, i never stopped thinking about you!" She forgot her entire image of being a princess and hugged him, smiling and laughing. "Doctor, you cruel, cruel colt!" Dr. whooves laughed again, hugging her back. "I missed you too, Princess." She stood up, regaining her composure. 'You are in big trouble, Doctor." Dr. whooves smiled more. "But Luna, Is there anything I can do to get out of being punished?" "Well first you can address me by my proper title." She smiled, unable to be serious. "and two, you have to figure something out." "Oh?" Dr. whooves raised an eyebrow. "Well, Princess, I do have one thing to ask you." She tilted her head. "and that is?" "Will you be my special somepony this Hearts and Hooves day?" Luna smiled, embracing him. "Yes."
