A Simple Work Day

She was a normal pegasus who was going to her job as the personal maid for Shadow Kicker a wealthy Earth Pony stallion in Canterlot. Though many would say she was average looking for a pegusas with her teal coat, sea blue mane with a sapphire streak through it, and her fuchsia eyes she was happy with the way she looked. Took pride in the fact that she didn't fall into the popular trends that a lot of the Canterlot snobs seemed to fall into.

But that was not important right now as she had to get to Shadow's house to start her normal routine. As she trotted her way through the crowed street she honestly couldn't be happier about her job even if the nobles looked down at her. She had found her dream job by working for a wealthy pony, though she was not that shallow.

No, she had her standards for what she looked for in both a special somepony and a job. Her dream had always been to work in Canterlot to one day join the Royal Maid staff at the palace. But the only way to do that is if you worked for somepony who had connections in the palace, and she had lucked out when she got hired by Shadow.

He apparently has a cousin in the palace that worked as one of the janitors there. Though not a high connections it was all she needed in order for her to get a good word in. That is of course she did her job well and was to Shadows satisfactory.

"Ah good mourning Ms. Dust." The guard at the front gate said when he saw her walking up.

"Again, I told you that you can call me Feather Rock." She replied since she did tell him every day for a month that he could call her by her first name.

"Oh I know, I just like messing with you. Go on in Feather, Mr. Kicker is waiting for you." He said smiling before hitting a button cleverly hidden under his chair, it was of course magically connected to the gate.

"Thanks for the heads up." She said returning the smile walking through the gate.

"Have a nice day!" He called.

"You to!" She called back waving her hoof.

She wondered why Shadow was waiting for her, the only time he did that was on her first week of the job to make sure she knew what to do. After that it became obvious to him that she knew exactly what to do once she got there. So he pretty much let her be to her work except if he needed a little something extra to do for her, like dusting his office or something.

Also he always enjoyed talking to her when he was on his break and she was doing something small to where she could pay attention to the conversation. Though as she thought about it there was one other time he waited for her to get to work. He just wanted her to run with him to the store for some groceries for a party.

He had given her half of the list that he needed and took the other half for himself. It was a smart plan since the half of the list they both took seemed gigantic to normal shopping list. But that's to be expected from a Canterlot pony who was throwing some kind of party.

"Ah, there you are Feather. Right on time like always, i'm sure you're wondering why i'm waiting for you?" Shadow asked with his normal smile and happy tone when she came.

"Well yeah actually. But how did you know that I knew?" She asked a bit surprised.

"The inter com was still on when Rock Watcher told you I was waiting, I just told him a few moments before you had arrived. That and I told him to tell you anyways." He said.

"So, um, why exactly are you waiting for me? Did I forget to do one of my duties?" She asked a bit nervous.

"No no, nothing like that. I know I said you won't have to wear a uniform, but I decided that since you're doing such a good job I think it's time to make it official." He replied.

"Oh, so I get a uniform? That's sounds good, so can I see it?" She asked relief filling her.

They had talked about this, she was more or less on a trial basis since the previous maid tried to steal a priceless Zebra artifact that he had collected. If she proved herself he would make it official by getting her a uniform. Official of course meaning his official maid, and was one step closer to getting a referral to be part of the Royal Maid staff.

"Of course, right this way." He said waving his hoof and then lead the way.

She had been working here for a good two months already and knew the house pretty good, so she had a decent idea of where he was leading her. He called his staff room, but he really only had three staff members. Her, Rock, and his cook Good Barger, so it was more or less an unused room.

"So after you see, and try on your new uniform I need you to help fix up my office. I've got a business associate coming over in three hours and need it spic and spam." He said after a few seconds of silence.

"That I can do Mr. Kicker." She replied.

"Please, Mr. Kicker was my fathers name. I told you can call me Shadow." He said which made her chuckle a little as it reminded her that she had just said the same thing to Rock.

"Okay, Shadow. So what kind of uniform did you get?" She asked a bit curious because of all the different types of maids uniforms there were. She just hoped that it wasn't one of those skimpy ones, she absolutely despised those ones.

"Don't worry it's nothing to revealing if that's what you mean, like one of those Prench maids outfits." He replied picking up what she was saying.

"Well that's good to hear." She said thanking Celestia silently for that.

"But there is one other thing I would like to ask you." He said looking back at her, at this point they were already at the door that they needed to be.

"Oh, go on i'm all ears." She said.

"Well, i'm throwing another soiree this weekend and I was hoping you could stay a little longer, I can pay you overtime as well if you like? Of course that's only if you want to stay long enough." He said giving her a hopeful look.

"What will I need to do? Other than clean up the messes that is?" She asked.

"Well have a nice time of course, have some wine talk to the ponies I've invited to make some more connections. Maybe have a dance with me if you like?" He asked raising an eyebrow.

"I would like that, but as for the dance sorry to tell you this but i'm not into stallions." She let out a giggle at his embarrassed expression. "But I guess as long as it's just a dance between employer and employee then I can make an exception."

"Oh well i'll be looking forward to having that dance then, even if it is strictly professional." He said with a slight but still disappointed smile. "So you'll fine your uniform in the closet come out when you're ready."

"Okay, i'll be done in a minute." She replied stepping into the room.

She quickly went to the closet and went in, it was a nice sized walk in closet after all. Big enough that it could be a bedroom all itself were it not for the empty racks for cloths. That made finding her uniform much easier though, and she picked it up with her hooves to take a good look at it.

It was a white dress with a skirt that would go past her tail so it wouldn't show off anything. It looked like a Prench maids dress except for that and the little thing, she didn't know what it was called, was black. So it was pretty much a Prench dress that actually didn't show that much and had color reversal on it.

She hated it though since it was still a maids outfit that was meant to be revealing. Even if the skirt was designed longer to hide anything, it was still kind of short. But She did at least need the job in order to climb the latter she had chosen, and like she said it wasn't that revealing.

"Alright i'm coming out." She called and opened the door, Shadow's jaw dropped when she did though. "Um, I thought you said you didn't get one of these Prench dresses?"

"Oh confound it, they must have slipped up my order with somepony else's order. Don't worry i'll fix that, but it'll take about a month to get a hold of the company I ordered it from, is that alright with you? You don't have to wear that thing if you don't want to?" He asked though his eyes kept looking her over.

"Um, no i'll be fine for now. Just try to get a hold of that company as fast as you can okay?" She asked through her blushing.

"Alright if you're sure you're fine with it for now, but how about we get started on cleaning my office huh?" He asked.

"That sounds good to me." She said and he put his hoof out so she could lead the way, and she just raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, right sorry. I'll go first, though I do find it funny that you don't even wear cloths and yet you're embarrassed when wearing something." He gave a light chuckle.

"Yeah, well it's a bit different when you're a mare. A stallion usually only wears a shirt, and we mares wear outfits like these for some unknown reasons. Though I guess if you're into this kind of stuff and it get's whoever you're into turned on, but then again I think that's another reason why when we mares put on something like this we're usually embarrassed about it." She said.

"Ah makes since, you do look very lovely in it though." He commented.

"Yes well I thank you for your compliment, but I rather not wear this for to long." She replied.

"Like I said you can take it off and not wear anything like usual if you aren't comfortable with it." He said.

"Yeah I know, but since you already got it I might as well try it on. It's not like it really reveals anything, the skirt is longer and all. Thank Celestia for that." She said.

"Yes thank Celestia for that." He said, though he tried to keep his tone neutral she picked up something like disappointment in it. But she shrugged it off.

They quickly got his office cleaned really fast, mostly thanks to her ability to fly. So he let her get back to her normal schedule which for today just consisted of sweeping, moping, vacuuming, and as always dishes. He always seemed to be a messy eater, and always ate a lot more than what she thought a pony of his class ate. Though that could just be the illusion she got from the high stack of dishes.

She did all of her other chores and was now starting on the most difficult one. This dishes were a pain as always, but then she didn't get her cutie mark in house care for nothing. Her cutie mark was of a feather duster going across the front of a house, she was so happy the day she got it.

Her parents took her out to celebrate for as they called it, her cutesceneria. Though she did learn that was an actual event in which a lot of moderately rich families in rural areas celebrate. They had took her to go see a Wonderbolt show for it, and she had to smile at the memory.

"You all done?" Shadow asked as she came out of the employee room without her uniform.

"Yeah, just decided to leave that uniform here. I'll be back tomorrow at the same time, and can't wait for the party. Thanks for at least including me by the way." She said with a smile.

"Think nothing of it, but do you have a dress you can wear?" He asked.

"Um, yeah why? I mean if i'm on the clock and all, why wouldn't I at least be wearing that uniform?" She answered with a bit of bitterness towards it now.

"Well because as I said I also want you to get to know some of the other upper class man that's there. And I don't think that little outfit would make a good impression, but you're more than welcome to wear it if you want?" He had a bit of a suggestive tone but again she didn't pick up on it.

"Well, like I said i'll be there to mostly work so I think it might be better if I just wear it. Even if I do make a bad impression and it'll embarrass me like heck." She said letting out a sigh. "But thanks for trying to save me from that though."

"No problem, you better go home. Have a nice day Feather." He said walking back into his office.

"You to Shadow." She called and walked out the front door.

Today wasn't all that bad, just some minor grease stains on some of the dishes. That and that uniform, she did absolutely hate it with all of her might. But she would put up with it anyways. After all Shadow did say he would fix it and that it was by an accident that they sent him the wrong uniform right?
