Lost to Lighting
RainbowDash glided through the sky, her feathers ruffeled in the breeze. She grinned at the cheering ponies, and remembered when she was just one of them. After Spitfire had to retire, Rainbow herself was called up. Now, it was the annual show, the biggest in Equestria. The team flew up, reaching for the stars. RainbowDash looked up, narrowing her eyes. A dark cloud was forming over the arena. The weather team had cleared the skies...what was going on?! Suddenly, there was a loud crash, and Rainbow felt the feathers on her wings catch fire. She gasped, and flew in circles in an attempt to put them out. She could hear screaming ponies, and the rest of the Wonderbolts trying to clear the clouds. More lightning shot out of the cloud, striking the ground. Dash flew above the cloud, and proceeded to fly down, gathering more and more speed. She closed her eyes, tears beginning to fall. She flew into the cloud, performing a rainboom. She could hear nothing, the world had seemed to stop, then every thing went black.
RainbowDash heard ponies talking beside her. She tried to open her eyes, but couldnt.
"Hello?" She whispered
"Rainbow? RAINBOW! your alive!"
"Yeah, who is that?"
"Oh....I-its Sorian"
"What happened to me? Why cant i see?!"
Sorian looked at the team leader, tears in his eyes. The once beautiful mare lay in a hospital bed, her mane ruffled, her wings scorched. The worst part though...her beautiful magenta eyes...would never see the world again.
"Sorain...speak to me" Rainbow said, her hoof searching for his. He took hold of hers
"Rainbow...im so sorry" His tears began to fall "You have been blinded"
"W-what?" Dash almost lost her voice.
She would never be able to fly again..all her dreams, shattered. Thoughts swirled in her brain, what about Scootaloo? Her friends....she would never be treated the same. Her body began to shake, tears never falling. Sorian looked at her, hugging the mare.
"Dashie, we are going to have to tell your friends. They are really worried"
"I know...I want to see them"
"Come on then, the doctors say you can leave whenever, you are strong enough if you have somepony with you"
The cyan mare nodded, and clambered out of the hospital bed. She stumbled, and Sorian looped his leg around her, helping her up.
"We will take the back exit, I have transport waiting for us"
Dash nodded, and they left. When they stepped outside, the mare could feel the cool breeze, hear things she had never heard before. She smiled to herself. At least she could still hear. Birds tweeted in the trees, the river gently trickled over rocks. RD pictured it in her head, and smiled a bit more. Sorian looked at the mare. He loved her smile, it lit up her face, and the rest of the ponies around her. Her mane was gently pulled by the wind, brushing her face, and fluttering at the tips. He smiled himself, and lead her to the cart, the Big Mac had kindly offered to pull, until they got to Applejacks farm. He gave her a hoof up, and then pulled a crate of apples in front of them, hiding them from any praying eyes. Big Mac set off, and soon, the pegasi had fallen alseep.
RainbowDash shot up when an apple fell on her head, waking her from sleep. She panicked, not being able to see anything, and cried out. Sorian jumped up and pulled her towards him, hugging her. He whispered to her, calming her, and lay her back down. Big Mac stopped the cart and un hooded himself.
"Y'all ok back there?" he said, kicking the cart open
"fine, thank you" Sorain nodded, and helped Rainbow out
"t-thank you Big Mac" RainbowDash stuttered
"any time miss" He nodded and walked off
Sorian took Dashes hoof, and lead her to the farm house. He knocked on the door, and a rather tiered looking AppleJack answered it. She took one look at her friend, and burst into tears. Twilight, at the sound of crying, also went to the door. She saw Sorian, and a confused looking RainbowDash, and AppleJack, then took them all inside. She settled the two pegasi, and AppleJack and got her friends. They came running at the word Rainbow, and son everypony was in the farm house living room.
"Guys? are you all there?" Rainbow asked
"Yes darling, we are" Rarity smiled
"So..um...Rainbow...how are you feeling?" Fluttershy asked, hiding behind her hair
"FLUTTERSHY!" Rarity gasped "What a thing to say!" she turned back to Rainbow "Darling,i know what was a silly question, forgive her. What she meant to say was, how is life you, is everything ok?"
"Rarity, chill. Its cool. I preferred Flutters way of asking it. I may be blind, but im not stupid"
"Im sorry darling..."
A silence filled the room, Sorian shifting closer to Rainbow. Rarity looked at Fluttershy, mouthing an apology, then turned back to rainbow.
"So y'all, should we uh, give Rainbow her gift?"
"My gift?"
The ponies all sat beside Rainbow and handed her a box. Dash fumbled with it, and finally managed to get it open.
"Guys...what is it?"
"Its a necklace dear, it holds power. We filled it with a rainbow"
"G-guys....thank you"
Rainbow started crying again. Pinkie looked at her, confused
"Why is she shaking" Pinkie whispered into Sorian's ear
"She is crying" Sorian whispered back.
After a long night, Sorian took Rainbow back to her own home. He settled her in bed, then left. Rainbow lay, thinking to herself. He said he would be back in the morning...but why bother. She turned on her side, and pictured her future. It was all dark...why bother doing anything? She sniffed, and went to sleep.
