A poem version of the origin story between Luna, Celestia, Discord, and Nightmare Moon.
Have you ever heard the story of a time long ago And the battle between us three? It is a tale which few ponies know Of Discord, my sister, and me.
My very best friend, in stone I encased, When he tried to destroy this land. My belov’d sister, whom I sent to space When I learned what it was she had planned.
It killed me to do it, I’d no choice, you see. To fight them, it broke my heart. But this story is not just about me. With Discord, our anecdote starts.
A little chaos is a wonderful thing, It adds some spice to life. Order and rules, they’re so boring. They cause nothing but strife.
These little ponies seem to have The need to manage the world. But life is simply much more fun When randomly, it unfurls.
But ponies control the weather, the sky, They control all the forests, and all of its life. Wild animals, ponies control them too. There isn’t a single thing they don’t do!
And leading them all Those silly little rulers, Celly and Luna.
My best friends, those two have been, Far back as I can recall. Remarkable, considering, An unfortunate pitfall.
I could not be more different than them. I am far too in love with mayhem.
Despite all this, we are still friends. Our differences, we can transcend.
Those two are just so uptight, And everything must be just right. I should help them unwind, Really, it would be kind And it’d make their days that much more bright.
Hmm. Maybe…. What if I… Oh! I got it! I’ll give them a break! Give them a whole day off! Take away the sun and moon. Without them, they’ll have no more chores! Celly will be mad, but soon she’ll see The fun of no responsibilities!
I’m always pulling little pranks on them. Celly always gets mad, but Luna…. I can always get her to laugh. This one, though, Celly will love! She’ll have a laugh, I’m sure! And just like old times, Before their rule Together We’ll have Fun.
Luna, there you are, my dear. Something is terribly wrong! I have some awful news, I fear. The sun and moon are both gone!
What? Impossible! It cannot be so!

With power to control those orbs.
Absurd, that they, someone stole.
This mystery, I don’t understand, But look at the panic it’s caused. The ponies, down below in the land, Their very lives have paused.
They’re scared and confused, and so very lost. This I will not tolerate. We will find the source, whatever the cost, And order, we’ll reinstate

Discord, this mess is your handiwork? But what in the heavens name for? You’ve gone and driven us all berserk. Our rules, you’ve simply ignored!

So I took down your sun, and Luna’s moon too. And now all your chores are done! It was just a favor, as that’s what friends do. So come on, let’s have some fun!

The Elements should have turned me to stone Or left not one speck to remain. And yet, somehow, I still draw breathe. When I clearly should have been slain.
Celestia must’ve been holding back. If not, I’m sure I’d be dead. I knew she wouldn’t have the heart. This choice, she’s going to dread!
Haha! Celestia, what a foal! Now you’re going to die! You should have killed me with that attack! Wait, where am I?

I only need to find an escape, A way to get back home. But more pressing, I must get stronger If I am to take back my throne.
And the Elements of Harmony, I must destroy those stones! Wait a moment. What’s this I feel? I sense that I’m not alone.
Princess Luna? How can this be? I thought we were one and the same! Impossible for us both to be here. The answer, I must ascertain!
Hmm. The Elements of Harmony. The ultimate forces of good. Perhaps they contain the strength to destroy Any darkness that once stood.
Perhaps when those stones hit me, My evil, they tried to erase. Clean Luna of all of my darkness, Restore her to her grace.
The spell didn’t work! Our corrupted mind Was shattered beyond repair. Instead our soul was fractured in two A princess and a nightmare!
One of us overflowing with hate, A being filled with spite. The other, what Luna was before, A being filled with light.
But we are not completely apart I’ve not yet been set free. We still must share one physical form Though different entities.
Could this perhaps be the answer to why Celestia, we could not defeat? The goodness in Luna would not allow, If our sister, we were to mistreat.
Luna’s weakness held me back When I tried to take the crown. And presently, I’m linked with her. She’s pulling my strength down!
I can never defeat Celestia While tethered to this weakling! Impossible to take my throne, No havoc to be reeking!
I can’t stand for this, I will not allow My power to be restricted. I’ll take control of the form we share. Her life force will be constricted.
Overpower her, seal her away forever, Locked in a corner of our mind. With nothing left to hold me back I’ve no reason to be kind.
Once this is over I’ll reign supreme Over all that stand in my way. Finally, I will create A world with no more day!
The only thing stopping my glorious rise Is Luna, the poor little dear. She’s been a pain for far too long. Time to make her disappear.
