An Embarrassing Introduction

Rarity.

A young unicorn with a white coat and a neat purple mane trotted across the room in a proud manner. Her head was up high and was smiling happily, seeming a bit full of herself. She stopped at the front of the class, where the teacher introduced her.

"Class, this is Rarity. She has come a long way to join us here in Ponyville," Miss Cheerilee implied, adressing the class. A chorus of young ponies replied with multiple questions and comments.

"Rarity? That's a funny name."
"Look at her hair."
"She looks like a snob."
"Where does she come from?"
"Is she nice?"
Rarity said nothing but smiled brightly.

"Why, I look forward to meeting all of you. I am sure this will be absolutely splendid," her voice was very silky and smooth and seemed to calm some of the tense ponies.

A bit of the ponies giggled and snorted at this. Rarity frowned. "Why, what's so funny?" She said in annoyance.

"Class, quiet down. Now, would anyone like to show Rarity around and be her friend?" Cheerilee suggested to the students, but only silence welcomed her.

Cheerilee's gaze met a young yellow pegasus sitting down quietly. She was known as Fluttershy. She didn't talk much or have much friends, to her disadvantage.

"Fluttershy, you're a good student. Why don't you help miss Rarity find her way in her new school?"

"Oh, me?" Fluttershy's face immediately blushed and she tried hiding under her desk, but only sent a loud thud to her nose. She began rubbing her nose, which sent a chorus of laughter near her.

"Fluttershy. Yes." Cheerilee frowned and looked at the laughing fillies and colts which sent them quiet.

"Oh, I.... Okay. I'm Fluttershy." Fluttershy said quietly, in a sort of whispering voice, and gave a small wave.

Rarity leaned towards her. "What was that?"

"I'm Fluttershy." It was repeated, but in a louder tone.

"Again?" Rarity took a step then leaned her head forward again.

"Fluttershy!" Fluttershy frowned and yelled, then blushed and sunk down into her desk again(but made sure to not hit her nose, how embarrassing). "I'm sorry, was that too loud?"

"Oh, no, darling. It was fine " Rarity trotted near her desk, smiling. "It is a delight to meet you, Fluttershy."

Fluttershy only nodded as the unicorn took a seat next to her.

This sure is going to be interesting...

As soon as the bell rang, the class was dismissed to have recess outside. Rarity trotted slowly over to Fluttershy. "So, darling, I suppose it is time I should get to know you,"

Fluttershy turned her head around slowly so she was making eye contact with Rarity. "Ooh, yes." She whispered. Rarity nodded.
"So, um... what do you do in your freetime?"

"I like going outside and admiring nature and scenery. Aren't landscapes wonderful?" Fluttershy said happily, thinking of a dimly lit sunset rising.

"I suppose. I like crafts. You know, sewing, building, art. Basic things, really." Rarity looked around the clean classroom.
"Why, it sure is bland in here. Do you do any projects or anything here? It's quite dull..."

"Oh, yes! We have things on the wall. There's our pictures of Princess Luna for Nightmare Night and then... successful papers. See? I got an A on my English assignment!" Fluttershy pointed to what seemed like the only art in the room then to neatly marked papers.

Rarity snorted then stomped a hoof demandingly. "There must be more festivity! Nightmare Night was a month ago! You must do more than that..."

Fluttershy nodded no. "Yeah, we don't. I wish we did. Arts and crafts are kinda fun. It's a shame."

Rarity sighed. "Well, darling, I think you ought to show me outside now. It must be more colourful out there." She said, hopefully.

Fluttershy nodded and quietly jogged out of the classroom with nimble steps, with Rarity close behind her.

Rarity got a few of looks from other ponies outside who didn't know there was a new student, but she carried on, her head in the clouds.

"Okay. This is the playground, that's the track field, those are other classrooms, and that's the library." Fluttershy said quickly, pointing in numerous directions. Rarity blinked.

"Ummm, say that again?" Rarity smiled and laughed confusingly.

Fluttershy rolled her eyes. "It's not really a big school, you know," she then smiled. "Follow me around and you'll fit in and know every place by heart in no time at all."

"If you say so," the unicorn smirked and did indeed follow her.

After a while of just walking around and chatting, they decided to meet some other ponies.
"Sounds fun. There's a few groups of ponies we could join." Fluttershy looked around at little cliques of fillies and colts.

"Those are the mean fillies, those are the self-proclaimed cool colts, those are the nice fillies, but don't get on their bad side," Fluttershy continued as Rarity nodded.

"Those are.. ooh, that's Blue Skies, Caramel and Starburst. They're looking.. nice as always." The unicorn raised an eyebrow at this.

"Really? Them? They're the most handsom-"
"No. The really handsome ones are the ones who think they're cool. But nobody really.. um.." Fluttershy muttered. "Is too nice to them. They aren't nice to us. They're meanies."

"Oh. Okay. I guess they look nice. I have a few tips for them, though..Carry on." Rarity blinked and followed Fluttershy again.

"Well, there's the best flyers. They can fly amazingly already. Spitfire, Soarin', Blaze, Rainbow Dash, Fleetfoot.. they're pretty amazing." Fluttershy stopped. "Those are the geeks. That's pretty much all you need to know."

"Okay. Let's try to talk to... the nice fillies." Rarity said. "Sounds like the only place we can really get some friends." Fluttershy nodded and they continued toward a group of talking and laughing ponies.

"Excuse me... Hi, Lyra." Fluttershy trotted up to a light blue pony who smiled and replied with a "hello" to her. "So, there's a new student. Do you mind talking to her? Miss Cheerilee said I should find her some friends and show her around,"

"We'll give it a try." A young filly who was called Berry Punch said as the other ponies of the group began paying attention.

"Great." Fluttershy said joyfully. "There she is." The rose maned Pegasus pointed to Rarity, who was sitting down patiently.

"Okay." Chilly Puddle chimed in, trotting over to Rarity.
"Hi, I'm Chilly. What's your name?"

"Rarity. It is splendid to meet you-" Rarity was cut off by other ponies joining in.

"I'm Berry Punch." "Lyra Heartstrings!" "Octavia." "Bon Bon." "Jubileena." "Daisy." "Junebug." "Rose."

Rarity's eyes widened. "Oh... hello, um... Berry, Lyric, Octopus, Von Bob, Jubilee, Dasiy, Maybug, and Rose..."

The ponies frowned, unamused. "Okay, we'll say our names slowly so it's easier to remember."

"Berry Punch." "Lyra Heartstrings." "Octavia." "Bon Bon." "Jubileena." "Daisy." "Junebug." "..and Rose."

"Berry Punch... Lyra... Octavia... Bon Bon..." Rarity smiled. "Jubileena, Daisy, Junebug and Rose!"

The fillies smiled and crowded Rarity, filling her with questions.
"What do you think your cutie mark will be?"
"Who do you have a crush on?"
"How did you style your mane?"
"What do you like about Blue Skies?"
"What do you do in your freetime?"

Rarity gave a sad smile, embarrassed. "Could you.. say that again, Janebug?"

Junebug frowned. "It's Junebug." She turned back to Fluttershy as the other ponies followed. "Sorry. Where we are heading so far, this is pointless."

Fluttershy nodded sadly, flew slowly over to Rarity as they watched the frustrated ponies trot away.

Attempts at the Library

"What do we do now?" Rarity asked Fluttershy sadly.

"I don't know. Why don't we go to the library and see what we can find there? T-the ponies there are usually very kind," Fluttershy suggested quietly.

"Okay, darling. I'm right behind you." The white unicorn said, beginning to be hopeful again.

They trotted along the school, heading towards the nice, quiet, blue library.
The pair entered the library in a well mannered fashion, until they heard a loud thud and books fall down everywhere(and a steaming librarian).

"There's no books on flying!" A cracked voice shouted.

"Shhhhhhhh!" The angry librarian replied.

Rarity scowled, confused. "Isn't that the amazing Rainbow Dash you were talking about?"

"Oh, dear. Yes." Fluttershy watched the cyan blue pony fly (faster than she should of) around the library.

"Come on, get me a book on flying!" The rainbow maned pony flew over to the check out shelf and stomped a hoof.

The librarian sighed loudly and frowned. "Pick up those books, Dash. Then I'll get you a book on flying." she said, tiredly.

Rainbow Dash crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. "Fine." she flew over to the fallen books, beginning to pick them up effortlessly. "Libraries are lame, anyway," she muttered.

Fluttershy trotted quietly over to Rainbow Dash.
"Dashie, you should try being nicer to the librarian."

"Well, she's not nice enough to find me a stupid book anyway!" Rainbow Dash growled and continued putting back books on shelves.

Fluttershy frowned. "Why, how rude!"

Dash ignored her and pushed the last book into a small slot. She then huffed and glided over to the librarian. "I'm done. Any books on flying?"

The librarian sighed and laughed a bit. "No. There isn't. Your friend Soarin' already asked me that. I'd recommend going to the bigger library around town."

"Yeah, thanks." Dash sarcastically mumbled and flew out the door. "I should be flying anyway."

The librarian rolled her eyes and continued working. She then turned to Fluttershy and Rarity. "So, what may I help you two with?"

"Oh, we're just looking for maybe..." Fluttershy muttered, not really bothering to finish her sentence.

"Some people to socialize with, perhaps." Rarity finished he sentence.

The librarian blinked. "Maybe you shouldn't go to this place for socializing," she pointed a sign that said:

SHHHH! Quiet Please.

"Oh." Fluttershy said quieter. She leaned near the librarian. "Sorry," she whispered.

"Perfectly fine, dear. Now, shoo." The librarian beckoned them away, and they galloped away obediently.

"Well, what do we do now?" Rarity asked, losing hope once again.

"I don't know."

Fluttershy almost jumped as the bell rang.

"I guess we should go back go class?" The white coated unicorn suggested.

"Sounds good," Fluttershy nodded and began flying weakly in the direction of their classroom.
