Rainbow yawned and stretched, her wings extended to balance herself. Several small popping sounds broke the silence around her and caused her tongue to lawl out and her eyes to roll back. She leaned back against the tree and saw AJ bucking trees a few rows over and a small smile crawled across her lips.

“I wonder how she would look if she let her mane down, I bet it would be pretty cute.” She smiled mischievously and took off as silently as she could. Darting from tree to tree, she slowly approached one just a few ahead of AJ’s bucking and crouched on a branch ready to pounce.

Once AJ reached the tree, Rainbow dove down and snatched the stetson from AJ’s head and darted back into the tree.

AJ squeaked and jumped and spun around. Her eyes darted about, searching for the culprit for a few seconds before she turned back around. “Rainbow is that you?” AJ looked into the tree with a coy smile before turning around. Lowering her front end down and her back legs into the air she slammed her back hooves into the tree. The resounding thwack was quickly followed by a thud and a yelp. “Can I have my hat back now?”

Rainbow lay on the ground, plot in the air and wings splayed at her sides. Snickering she rolled to her side and stood up. “Nope I left it in the tree, but if you let your mane down I might think about grabbing it for ya.”

Applejack eyed Rainbow curiously. “Why would ya want that, y’all ain’t thinkin’ somethin’ weird are ya?”

“Naw, I was just wondering what you look like with your mane down. Does it mean something weird to ask?” Rainbow wiggled her eyebrows at Applejack.

Applejack sputtered and took a half step back. “N-no of course not! I was just teasin’ ya. Hehe.” She reached back and grabbed the red band she used to hold her hair back. “Are ya sure? It’s nothin special, doesn’t really change anything if I let it down.”

Rainbow cocked an eyebrow at AJ. “Scared of something? Oh my, the mighty Applejack is afraid of letting her hair down.”

“NO! I just think it’s a weird request is all.” Applejack took a few deep breaths and deftly pulled the band off.

Rainbow gasped as the golden locks sprung free, cascading down AJ’s neck, spooling to one side. Aj shook her head to make sure it was straight, a few drops of sweat flung loose and reflected the afternoon light around her. The resulting halo of rainbow light framed her figure and Rainbow fell to her plot on the ground, mouth agape.

“Umm, you okay RD?” Applejack felt herself blushing deeply from the enraptured gaze of her coltish friend.

“Yea...Yea.” Rainbow shook her head to try and clear her mind of the strange thoughts that she found invading it. “I just didn’t expect you to be so beautiful with your hair down.”

“Did you just say I was beautiful?” Applejack’s eyes looked like saucers and her mouth hung open slightly. “I coulda sworn you just said I was beautiful.”

Rainbow paused, her brow furrowed and eyes closed in thought. Suddenly her eyes exploded open as she realized what she had just said. “I totally meant your mane not you, not that you aren’t, I mean you are of course but I meant your.... IGOTTAGO!” Rainbow spread her wings to fly away but Applejack tackled her before she could get away.

“Do you mean that Rainbow? Do you really think I’m pretty?” Applejack hugged herself against Rainbow’s barrel to hide her face and keep the cyan pegasus from taking off.

“Umm well, yea. I never really thought about it before but I guess I do. I mean, I have always respected you, but I never stopped to think about how I find you physically.” Rainbow raised a hoof to the back of her head and rubbed it in embarrassment. “I do think your pretty good looking, all this farmwork has really firmed up your plot and toned out the rest of your body.” Rainbow blushed heavily and thanked Celestia silently that AJ couldn't see her face.

“Rainbow, do you think maybe you could take me out tonight and show me that you think I am pretty and you like me. I have this dress I have been wantin a reason to wear and I think that might be a pretty good one.” Applejack hugged Rainbow tighter, afraid to hear what she was certain she would.

Several tense and silent minutes passed before Rainbow cleared her throat. “Umm, yea I like the sound of that. I can stop by Rarity’s and pick up a tuxedo and then come pick you up around...say eight.”

Applejack slowly climbed off her friend and turned away to hide her blush. “Ah’ll finish up the farmwork then and see ya tonight.”

“Yea that sounds good, I will umm... see you tonight then.” Rainbow stood still trying to figure out what she was supposed to do now. She didn’t want to race off and make AJ think she was fleeing or something. To tartarus with that, she didn’t want to leave at all for that. She slowly turned around to face Applejack. “Can you umm turn this way, I wanna say something...face to face.”

Applejack slowly turned around, keeping her head and eyes down to hide the massive blush she was harbouring. She saw a blue hoof come up and gently caress her chin, urging it to rise. Gently and slowly she complied, keeping her eyes down, to embarrassed to look into the rose colored eyes of the one she had just asked out.

“Look at me please Applejack.” Rainbow chewed her lip as the emerald orbs slowly rose to meet her rose colored ones. She took a deep breath as they looked and dove forward.

Applejack’s mind suddenly went blank as she felt the blue lips press against hers, and she unconsciously closed her eyes. Leaning into the kiss she moaned gently and moved her tongue forward, pushing it against the barrier of Rainbows lips. The barrier hesitantly parted and she darted her tongue in and wrapped it around Rainbows, pulling it into her own mouth eliciting a gentle moan from her rainbow maned friend.

After several minutes the revelry was broken by a small, confused sounding, country voice. “Whatcha doin’ with Rainbow there sis? Why’s yer tongue in her mouth? Did she eat another one of our apples and now yer tryin’ to get it back?”
