Sick Day

Stuck at Home

Scootaloo's POV.

"AHCHOO!" I sneezed, I hated having a cold, I had been sick since last night and had hoped that I would be feeling well enough to see my friends today, no such luck.

"Hey Scootaloo, sounds like you're still too sick for school," Rainbow Dash, mom said as she poked her head into my bedroom. "How are you feeling?"

"A little better, but... AHCHOO!" I started to say as I wound up sneezing again. "If this darn sneezing would stop."

"Well, somepony isn't going to school today then," mom said with a reassuring smile as she ruffled my mane. "And we both know how much you love school."

I couldn't help but giggle at that, mom knew how much I didn't like school, the truth was that I just wanted to see Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom again. I sighed and slid under the covers, just wishing that I wasn't stuck in bed like this.

It had been 3 months ago that I found out that Rainbow Dash was really my mom. I'm not complaining of course, she's a great mom, its been kind of a crazy three months, but it finally felt like things were going to calm down.

"Are you going to stay here today?" I asked.

"I can't, Squirt, sorry but I have to work with the Weather Team today..." mom said sadly, I sighed, it was an important job, so I couldn't expect her to take a day off for me. "But here's what I'll do, after I go tell Cheerilee that you won't be in school today, I'll see if I can get somepony to come by to check on you."

"Thanks mom," I said with a smile.

"No problem, I'll come in and check on you whenever I can, I promise, get lots of rest," mom said and gave me a light kiss on the forehead. "I love you Scootaloo."

"I love you too, mom," I said as she walked out.

I pulled the covers up over me and drifted off to sleep again.

Rainbow Dash's POV.

"Okay, thanks for letting me know, Ms. Dash," Cheerilee said after I told her that Scootaloo was sick. "I'll go get her homework for you."

"Thanks Ms. Cheerilee," I said as she went back inside.

I couldn't help but sigh, I had no idea what to do, I wasn't really that great with kids, sure I could help Scootaloo when she needs it, but I don't know what to do when she's sick. Celestia, I didn't know what to do.

"Here you go, I hope she feels better," Cheerilee said as she gave me some papers and I slid them into the saddlebags I was wearing.

"Thanks, I'll make sure she gets it done, she should be in school tomorrow," I said with a smile and a nod before heading back out of the school.

What was I going to do? It wasn't like I had any experience being a mom, I couldn't even ask one of my friends, well except for maybe Applejack, she had basically raised Apple Bloom with her brother and grandmother.

"Hi Rainbow Dash," a soft voice said from nearby, I looked up to see Fluttershy looking at me with that sweet smile on her face that always made my heart melt. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said. "I'm just worried about Scootaloo, she's home sick today, I mean its just a cold but..."

"But you're worried that you won't be able to be there for her like you should be?" Fluttershy asked.

Oh Fluttershy, you always seemed to know what was wrong... I just wished that I could tell you how I really felt about you, but I had to focus today.

"Yeah," I said with a sigh, then an idea occurred to me. "Hey Fluttershy, could you stay with Scootaloo for me? Just until I'm done working I mean."

"Sure Rainbow, anything for you," Fluttershy said with another smile.

"She should be resting today, but if she wakes up, do me a favor and give her these," I said and took out her homework and gave it to Fluttershy. "I should be back around 3 or 4. Thank you so much Fluttershy, this means a lot to me."

"I'd do anything for you and Scootaloo, Rainbow," Fluttershy said with a nod and a smile. "Take care, I'll see you this afternoon."

I watched her fly off, my gaze lingering a bit longer than was really necessary. I didn't want to admit it to anypony, but I was in love with Fluttershy. But that wasn't important right now, I just wanted to make sure that Scootaloo would be okay.

I flapped my wings and took off to go work with the weather team.

Fluttershy's POV.

"Hey Fluttershy," Scootaloo said as she looked at me from her bed, she looked like she had just woken up. "Did mom ask you to come check on me?"

"She did," I said with a smile as I set a glass of water down on the nightstand next to her. "Are you feeling better?"

"A little," she said, rubbing her eyes as she took the glass in her hooves. "I'm mostly just tired, thank you for coming by."

"You're welcome, Scootaloo," I said and checked her temperature, it came out a couple of degrees above normal. "How are you two holding up?"

"Pretty good," she said. "Though, sometimes it feels like mom is a bit overwhelmed with everything."

I looked at her curiously, Rainbow Dash overwhelmed? That didn't sound like Rainbow, she was one of the most confident ponies in town. Then again, maybe she was since she had asked me to help out today.

"I'm sure it'll be okay, she's still getting used to being a mom," I said, trying to sound reassuring.

"Yeah, Rainbow Dash is awesome," Scootaloo says with a nod.

"Maybe I could help her out a bit more," I suggested. "We all could, you two don't have to do this alone."

"I'd like that... but you'd have to talk to mom," Scootaloo said. "Thanks Fluttershy."

"Don't worry Scootaloo, I'll be here all day if you need me," I said, giving the filly a smile as I headed back out of her room so she could rest some more.

Rainbow Dash's POV.

It was 3:30 by the time I finally got back home, I opened the door to find Fluttershy waiting for me in the living room.

"Hey, how's the squirt?" I asked.

"Sleeping like an angel," Fluttershy said with a smile as she got up and walked over to me. "She should be fine by tomorrow."

"That's great," I said, that really took a load off my shoulders. "Thanks for coming by, Fluttershy."

"You're welcome," Fluttershy said, placing a hoof on my shoulder. "You know I'm here for you, all your friends are."

"I know, I just don't know... what if I mess this up?" I asked, suddenly very nervous. "I'm not a mom, I don't know how to raise a filly..."

"Nopony knows right way," Fluttershy said reassuringly. "But you're going to be just fine, I have faith in you, we all do. And we all want to help you."

She hugged me gently, I didn't want to admit it, but it felt nice. She was so gentle, so sweet and kind, I wished that I could tell her how much I really loved her. Maybe I should just tell her, but I was afraid of how she'd react.

"Rainbow, are you okay?" Fluttershy asked, looking me in the eye. "You can tell me whatever it is."

"Fluttershy, I..." I started to say, the next sentence out of my mouth was so quiet that I sounded more like Fluttershy.

"Rainbow Dash, are you okay?" Fluttershy asked. "You can tell me anything."

"Ever since I first met you after I came here from Manehattan... I've..." I started to say, trying to piece my words together. "Loved you... I love you Fluttershy..."

Fluttershy went quiet at that for a moment then leaned in and did something I didn't expect, she kissed me on the lips. I couldn't believe it, she was kissing me, I couldn't help but kiss back. After a moment she breaks the kiss, looking at me with that heart melting smile.

"I love you too, Rainbow," she said as we embraced.

"AHCHOO!" The familiar sound of a filly sneezing was heard from behind a nearby door.

"Scootaloo, go back to bed," I called out to her, getting an aww and the sound of small hooves walking away. "Hey, uh, Fluttershy, maybe tomorrow we could go get lunch together?"

"Sure, sounds good," Fluttershy said and rested her head on my shoulder and I nuzzled her gently.

I now had a daughter, and a marefriend, it felt like things were starting to look up for me.
