Chapter 28 - The storm

"I'll I'm saying is that Old Man Jenkins had it coming!" argued Charger as he walked through the halls

"No he didn't! He was just a innocent old man!" said Crescent

"I still don't see why you had to grow a tree in the middle of his house." said Starlight flatly

"Meh, before our friend Garter ran off he was quite the Unicorn!" said Charger

"I'm going to get a goods night sleep after this." said Crescent as he walked up to Sgt. David table

The other two stopped and looked at him scared and worried.

"What?" asked Crescent, "I was up at the crack of dawn and who knows what time it is now!"

"Uh, Crescent, look." said Charger

"What?" said Crescent looking at the desk, "GYAAAA!"
The desk was torn apart, papers strewn about about the ground. The newspaper David was holding was ripped to shreds with one piece stuck through one of the table legs. In a lightning flash from outside, they saw a bright red color and their hearts dropped. Starlight quickly shined a light on it and their fears confirmed: blood. They searched around in a panic, but to their horror the body of the Sergeant wasn't found anywhere.

"He's gone!" said Charger

"How could he have gone?" asked Crescent, "Aside the obvious."

"What do you mean?" asked Starlight, "whomever killed him took him?"

"Why would they hide the body but leave this mess?" asked Crescent

The question was puzzling, but as they looked at the pool of blood forming on the floor they hung their heads in sorrow.

"He may have been a bastard, and I hated him so, but....." said Charger

"He believed us when no one else did." said Crescent

"I can't believe he's dead." said Starlight

"Dead?" asked a little voice that sent shivers down their spines

From behind came little Filly walking up and saw David's torn desk and screamed in horror as she ran up to it and looked around in hope of finding him. The three Guards looked on knowing there was nothing they could do. Filly looked in every desk drawer, under David's former seat, and even under scraps of paper, each moment her little heart spiraling faster and faster into despair.

"What is going on here!?" came Shadows voice as she flew up, "Oh my god!"

She landed and looked at the scene and was silent in shock. The three Guards looked at her hoping for a answer, but nothing came. Filly walked up holding David's nameplate in her mouth. It was cracked and part of the wood holding had fallen off. Filly's eyes watered up in tears as she ran to Shadow, who comforted the little Filly.

"Wh-where's Sarge Ma'am?" she asked

"He's in a better place Filly." said Shadow

"Is he coming back?" asked Filly looking up at her

Shadow could barely look Filly in the eyes as a tear formed in her's as well. She looked to the scene and bent down and held Filly.

"No Filly, he's not coming back." she said on the brink of collapse

Filly did though, and buried her head in Shadow's arms and cried her heart out. The rest had to look away, not being able to bear the scene. Everypony knew David was Filly's equivalent to a father, and the sight was too much to bear. Yet, as they did, their eyes met and they knew what they had to do. They turned to Shadow, who looked at them, her red eyes afire with intense feeling and they were all thinking the same thing. Crescent, Charger, and Starlight charged off to search and alert the rest of the palace, if not the whole capital city! They rounded a corner and met Flower on patrol with a few Guards who were surprised to see them.

"Whoa, what's going on?" asked one of the Guards

"Sergeant David is dead." said Charger

"What!?" said the other Guard

"What happened?" asked Flower

"We don't know, but his desk is smashed and there is blood." said Crescent, "We need to search for his killer now!"

"Agreed! You two! Fan out and tell others!" ordered Flower

"Yes sir!" said the guards before galloping off."

"Orders Corporal?" asked Crescent

"Does Captain Shadow know?" he asked

"She's comforting Filly. She stumbled upon the wreck." said Charger

"Lieutenant Spirit isn't far from here. We'll go alert him and hill give us the orders. Follow me!"

A fire burned in their hearts and whomever did this was going to pay for this in the worst way possible. Yet, above in the rafters of the palace, two beings watched below as the Guards moved out.

"Everything is going to plan!" said one with a nasally and raspy voice

"Yes, yes! Soon we will have the riches!" cried the second in estatic in a similar voice

"The desk Guard has been disposed of?" asked the first

"Don't know. Never was reported in."

"Odd. Well, they say he's dead, so he must be dead."

"Shall we move on with the next plan?"

"Next part you fool! Lord Red wishes to talk with the scalys first before moving on."

"Awe, why do we have to work with scalys?"

"because Lord Red said so! Now move!"
