Chapter 1, Returning to Ponyville

Rainbow Dash's Point of View

I launched across the sky at top speed, tears streaming from her eyes. My new reputation that would arise from this was the least of my worries. The scene of Rarity's death is playing in my brain over and over again. It was really scaring me. I I can feel my heart thumping in my chest, and its taking every ounce of the energy in me to stay in the sky and not faint from hunger, thirst, devastation, and fear. Fear that they would find me. Fear that they would do to me what they did to Rarity, or even worse, what they did to Twilight. It is better to instantly die than to have a slow painful death...

I can't see a thing. I can barely breath. The tears covered my eyes, and her top speed only increased my hunger and thirst. I may be a top athlete, but everypony has their limits.I slowly descended to the ground, almost absolute that those other ponies didn't follow me. This is all my fault I'm the one who Lightning Dust hates so much. Why couldn't she just kill me? My eyes filled with more tears, and her stomach bounced up and down. I used my hoof to wipe away the ongoing cascade of tears when I answered her own question.

I am a coward.

That terrifying statement stood out in my mind. I am the Element of Loyalty. I can't leave my friends. I just can't. I have to get help. I have to save my friends. But how? I have to get back to Ponyville and muster up a group to help me. I can't do this one my own. Resting time was over. I had no time to lose.

By sundown I was in Ponyville. I could scarcely breathe much less talk. I was famished, dehydrated, and needed a rest. I flew to a nearby pond and drank the water, not caring about its horrible taste and smells. Scootaloo ran by and put a bucket of water in front of me. I shoved my head into it, inhaling all of the water. It was like heaven to my throat.

"What happened to you Rainbow Dash?" Scootaloo asked in a confused tone.

"You look terrible!" Sweetie Bell pointed out loudly, just now catching up to her friend. She was closely followed by AppleBloom. I stared at my reflection in the pond. I probably would have laughed if I wasn't so devastated. The strange feeling of fear and tragedy coming over me again. My face was dirty and sweaty, and there was a small cut on my forehead from who knows what.

"Where's my sister?" Apple Bloom asked, looking around.

"And Rarity! As a matter of fact, where are all the others?" Sweetie Bell asked, hope in her eyes. "Rarity said when she got home, she would have a special surprise for me!" My heart stopped. Then it started beating lightning speed. I had that terrible image of Rarity becoming dust in my head again. I bit my lip and approached Sweetie Bell. A tear fell from my eye and hit the ground. I stroked Sweetie Bell's mane.

"What in Equestria?" Sweetie Bell said, completely confused, and not taking a hint.

"Are...Are you crying Rainbow Dash?" Scootaloo dared to ask. I looked up at the trio of them, and noticed their faces were ghost white, as they watched the coolest pony in Ponyville weep, as they watched me weep.

"I'm so sorry," I choked out,"I'm all alone, the others are out there..."

Sweetie Bell gasped,"Are they alright?" At that I was shaking nonstop, blubbering like a little filly, this must of really spooked Scootaloo, because she was bawling too.

"Tell us!" Apple Bloom yelled unexpectedly,"At least tell us what happened to our sisters!"

"Rarity," I started wiping away the tears "She's gone." Sweetie Bell's eyes widened. Her mouth quivered."Your lying..."

I shook my head, then tilted it down in shame,"I'm afraid not." Sweetie Bell cried out, as if she had just been shot. Her long wails and nonstop tears made me feel like I had just been shot. Scootaloo and Apple Bloom were trying to comfort her, but it was no use. She just kept crying and then out of no where screamed,"I slept in that morning! I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye!"

Apple Bloom looked up at me with tears in her eyes," Is... Is AppleJack safe?"

I shrugged,"I hope so, I came back to get help." Sweetie Belle perked up.

"I have to come to avenge my sister!" Sweetie Belle begged," Please! This is something I must do." I didn't have the heart to say no, her eyes were wide with longing, and I could tell she was set on coming. But, I didn't want her to have the same fate as her sister.

"Me too! I gotta help mah sister!" Apple Bloom said.

"Where they go, I go!" Scootaloo joined in. I sighed.

"No." I said, with a serious face. The three ponies went from a small flicker of hope to complete despair.

"But I wanna see mah sister!" Apple Bloom wailed. I sighed and put my hoof on her shoulder.

"I promise to do everything in my power to keep your sister safe." I said straightening up.

I stood at town hall, behind the podium. I surveyed the crowd of worried ponies. They looked quiet worried about the disappearance of the others.

"What happened to the others? Without the other Element of Harmony, how can we even hope to protect Equestria." Yelled one pony.

"That is why I am here right now." I explained to the crowd of worried ponies."I need to band together a group of brave ponies to help fight off the dark magic! Anypony volunteer?"

The crowd was dead silent for about, 5 minutes. Then, Big Macintosh stepped up onto the platform. His face was solemn, and it looked like he'd been crying.

"Are you going to join up?" I asked hopefully, knowing he would be a great addition to their team.

"Eyup," He started,"For my sister." I understood now. He was probably doing this for the whole Apple Family, a wise representative. There was a stirring around the crowd and a familiar voice yelled out:

"I'm going to come too!" I surveyed the crowd and realized the voice belonged to Derpy.

"Derpy?" I pondered aloud, as she approached the platform.

"Yeah!" She shouted, even though I was right in front of her.

"Uh... But your..." I bit my lip, I may have laughed but this was a serious matter.

"I insist! I travel lots and have a few key tricks on fending of the monsters." Derpy stated happily, motioning to her mail bag. Derpy was dead serious, and I was sure Derpy shouldn't be in our group.

I wanted to say 'Sorry Derpy, you don't qualify' but instead I said, "The more the merrier."

Spike pushed his way through the crowd, obviously unaware of anything that was going on,"Whats happening? Why aren't the others here? Were-"

I cut him off,"Spike, Calm down man. I need you to take a letter to the Princess."

"But-"

"NOW." I commanded.
