Nightmare Moon was released from the hospital the next day and returned to her duty's. That was over a week ago and to anyone on the outside everything seemed to be back to normal but all was not as it seemed. Shortly after Nightmares release from the hospital Storm began to subtly distance himself from the night time affair's of the castle. Disappearing to the barracks to train the Lunar guard and when that was done. He would either fly around the countryside or retreat to the quarters he shares with Luna. Whenever he was questioned on it Storm was always evasive and quickly removed himself from the conversation. It was during one of his midnight outings that Nightmare sought out Luna her mind heavy with concern. Nightmare didn't have to look for long night court had just ended and she stumbled upon Luna as she exited the throne room.
"Ah Luna do you have a moment I would like to speak with you?" Nightmare said shifting from side to side nervously.
"Why of course dear sister what ever is it that bothers you?" Luna said watching Nightmare shift and look around as if she expected someone to jump out and get her at any moment. Nightmare didn't respond she just hung her head slightly with a sigh and a shake of her head. Taking the initiative Luna quickly led Nightmare back to her room and making her guest and herself comfortable.
"Now tell me dear sister what is it that bothers you so?" Luna said watching Nightmare carefully as she tried to marshal her thoughts.
"I believe I know what troubles young storms mind. I think it was something I did the day Everypony came to visit me in the hospital." Luna nodded to show she was listening and waited for Nightmare to continue.
"I think I may have said something to young Storm that led him to believe something that at the time I wasn't sure of." Nightmare said looking sheepishly at Luna fearing what would be said next. And to no surprise to her Luna said.
"What was It that you said dear sister and how would this effect storm?" Nightmare sighed and braced herself for she doubted her next words would be well received. With a heavy sigh Nightmare sat herself down letting her head hang dejectedly as she said.
"I told him I understand why you love him so after he came to the hospital. I can understand because despite all that I’m sure he has heard of me and. What Chrysalis put him through he still saved me and then was their to comfort me.
I don't know much about him and I won’t pretend to but the more I've thought about it the more I understand his reaction." As she spoke Nightmare watched Luna to try and gauge her reaction but she just sat there with a blank face. Prompting Nightmare to continue her explanation.
"I believe he may think I was implying that I feel for him when I said that." Nightmare said noticing a unreadable expression pass over Luna's face before she cleared her throat and said.
"Well then the only question remains to be do you love him Nightmare Moon?"
And their it was the question that had been running through Nightmares mind all week. The one question she never seemed to be able to answer. Sure Nightmare felt strongly for young Storm but. She wasn't sure if it was love and then she remembered how he made her feel in the hospital. He made her feel normal, warm, even welcome and tried to comfort her. Then their was the way Storm looked at her, he didn't look at her with disgust or fear but with pure simple concern for the wellbeing of another wondering soul. And with these revelations a broad smile formed on Nightmares face and she knew without a doubt that.
"I do love him Luna Probably more than I should." Nightmare said looking to Luna who had a broad smile of her own. Though it quickly turned to a scowl of concern that both scared and worried Nightmare Moon.
"Luna I’m sorry I didn't expect this to happen please don't ask me to keep this to myself. I won’t be able to and I fear what that could to us sisters please Luna." Nightmare said her voice quivering and tears streaming down her face as she watched Luna. Who seemed to stare off into space with that Scowl on her face before something on her hoof brought her back to earth.
" No no no Nightmare I’m not upset by you revelation granted it will make things interesting" Luna said with a reassuring smile. "But the problem is I watched Storms world before I brought him here and polygamy is frowned upon their. So I fear how this will effect him or how he will react to this." Luna shook her head and sighed before she was bawled over by a flying hug from Nightmare.
"Oh thank you Luna thank you" Nightmare said hugging her before realizing she was chocking Luna and jumped back with flurry of apologies.
"Don't fret over it Nightmare but we have to figure out a way to ease Storm into this" Luna said with a thoughtful expression. One that was soon copied by Nightmare and they sat their brainstorming for what seemed like hours until. Almost simultaneously wide devious grins crossed their faces. And in a flurry of motion the two alicorn's flew around the room making preparation's for the return of their love and set their plans into motion.
Around that time Storm was returning from one of his nightly "patrols" after receiving a strange note via magic from Luna. All it said was for him to meet her in their chambers. Confused Storm shook his head and strolled down the familiar corridors and came to stop outside their door. With a nod to the guards outside the door Storm stepped in to find the room steeped in shadow were ever the moon didn't light. Which wasn't anything new no the way Luna was laying on the bed was completely new. Luna was laid out across the bed half her body lit with moonlight the other hidden in the shadows. She had her bedroom eyes on looking over her shoulder at him giving Storm a wondrous view of her form outlined by her flowing main and tail.
"Good evening dear how has your evening been?" Luna said as Storm started to remove his armor.
"You already know the answer to that question dear Luna. My evenings and nights are always amazing because you make them to match you timeless beauty." Storm said earning a cute chuckle from Luna who motioned for Storm to come closer with a hoof saying.
"That's very sweet of you Storm" she said leaning up and giving Storm a peck on the cheek to entice him and. Motioned for him to lay down next to her which just happened to be the part of the bed shrouded in shadow. Not missing a beat Storm crawled into bed next to his love pulling her close and nuzzling her neck affectionately.
"So how has your night been Luna?" Storm said when he got comfortable earning another chuckle from Luna.
"It was the same as any other" Luna said before scratching her chin as if in deep thought. "Except.. Nightmare and I had a interesting conversation about you at night courts end.
"Is that so, I hope it was nothing bad" Storm said already the comfort of the bed and having Luna near lulling him to the verge of sleep. That is until the bed behind him shifted ever so slightly and a voice spoke up from behind him with a slight mischievous tone.
"Indeed we did Storm though rest assured their was nothing bad in it" Nightmare said startling Storm causing him to flip around and nearly dumping Luna on the floor. To find Nightmare laying behind him just like Luna was a mischievous smile adorning her face but a soft warmth in her eyes.
"Wh.. wha.. what Nig.. Nightmare when did you get here?'
"I’ve been here the whole time young one. But enough questions Luna what say you we get down to business." Nightmare said glancing at Luna who nodded yes and the two descended on a very confused Storm.
Needles to say the guards outside the door were very red in the face come morning. And Storm now had two mare friends but as he thought of it just before letting sleep claim him.
How could I love one and not the other and be loved by one and not expect the same from the other. They are two sides of the same coin after all, granted very different sides but.. that's why I love them. That day all three slept soundly with goofy grins plastered on their faces
