Twilight Gives Way to Dawn

Battle: Los Pegasus

One hour ago: Los Pegasus

"Can I go swim mama?", a young Pegasus mare pleaded.

"Not yet dear! You know it's still too cold to go swimming now," her mother warned.

"But mom! It's eighty degrees outside! That's warm enough!", the young one begged.

"Lilly...", the mother got her attention, "The water takes longer to warm up than the air. About this time of year, the water is usually still around fifty degrees, maybe less. You would freeze to death, or drown!"

"OK mom. What about next week?"

How about the week after? We can check then. The weather stallion says it will be warmer then. "

"OK!", the filly sprang away happily.

"Foals..."

The mother, who was just hanging cloths to dry, hung up the last article of clothing and walked inside. Once inside, she walked over to the stove and began cooking dinner. A mother's job is never done, she thought to herself.

"Hey Rosemary? Where did I put my tie?", a stallion called from the back of the house.

"In here, on the table," she called back.

"Mom! The Queen is coming! The Queen is coming!", Lilly called happily from outside.

"Gail! Get Lilly in the house and lock her in the basement!" Rosemary yelled in panic. Her daughter didn't understand that it was in fact bad to have a visit from the Queen, and not good.

Gail promptly snatched his daughter from the yard and went off to the basement.

"This can't be good."

The soldiers were near the city wall when the gates were closed and locked by the guards inside. However, they were no trouble for a mass driver spell combined from the soldiers that had gathered. The door was flung from its hinges and they were inside.

"Kill them all! It is time we take our city back! Leave the civilians unharmed unless they interfere!", Rarity bellowed from somewhere in the middle of the soldiers.

The soldiers were now on their way past the corpses and headed into town. They were undeterred.

"This can't be good!", a lone scout said to himself before flying in the direction of HQ.

Present: Resistance HQ

"When?!", the Commander was shocked.

"About an hour ag-go. I s-saw it from my guard's perch. It w-was bad! There were far too many f-for the amount of g-guards there", the scout stuttered, obviously shaken.

"Go get some rest, you've made a good fast trip here. You've earned it," Rainbow Dash thanked him then turned back to the table of officers. "Jack! Pineshield! Round up an army one hundred strong. Get them on their way to Los Pegasus. We can't lose this fight! We need to get them some aid now!"

"Yes ma'am!", they saluted in unison, before sprinting out.

"I just hope we're not too late," Rainbow muttered to herself once she was alone.

The Empire's soldiers were half way through the city. Their plan had gone as it should. There were many battles going on. Groups of rebels were in battle with groups of Imperials. The Imperials were winning so far. They had an advantage; they weren't expected. They had had the element of surprise...but so did someone else.

Around a corner of a fabric shop, were a large number of rebel soldiers. Around an adjacent corner of another shop, were a good few more. These were only a few of the surprise guests. Along the top of the buildings was a crew of scouting Pegasi. It was mere seconds before the whole of the strike force was on top of the unsuspecting platoon of Imperials.

They didn't see what had happened till a third of their troops were dropped. However, once they knew what had happened, they snapped into professional killer mode. The Imperials came back with malice. One rebel Pegasus was taken out of the air by a magical grip, only to be stabbed in the side by another's spear. While another rebel was plunged into a nearby wall, breaking their neck.

Lt. Major Apple Jack was about to panic, but saw something of interest. A wagon large enough to need a group ten-strong to pull was loaded down with large lumber. She quickly motioned a Unicorn rebel to see it, and upon noticing what was the object of interest, said soldier began to smile maliciously.

"Stand back!", AJ yelled.

The Unicorn quickly put all her strength behind her horn, and was able to rip the cords off of the wagon, sending every last log crashing down on the Imperials.

Apple Jack was about to celebrate over their leadership, until she saw the large gathering of soldiers in the streets ahead. The Lt. began to tell her soldiers to charge, when a number of her men were taken out by flying gems coming from as if from heaven. She looked up to see Rarity standing on top of the building above them.

AJ whistled and pointed at the roof across from Rarity. Two Pegasi flew over and carried her up to the roof she had pointed at. Once on top, she faced Rarity with a hate-filled look in her eye.

"Howdy Rarity! Long time, no bloody revenge!", she spat the words at her.

"Indeed Darling."

The soldiers were slightly outnumbered. They still had eighty nine of their original hundred. They rushed the Imperials with all they had. They were valiant, almost to the point of fearlessness. They were strong: stronger than most, but only to be outmatched by the soldiers in front of them. They were relentless, in that they did not fear taking a life used for evil to secure an innocent one. They were in over their heads, and they would soon learn this.
