Ratchet and Clank: Family of Heroes

Interlude: The Plan

Vendra and Neftin, following the battle with Mr. Eye and his Nether allies, allowed themselves to be taken in by Ratchet and his siblings, more for the galaxy to know that they had been 'captured' and that they were no longer a threat to the rest of Polaris, basically repeating what should have happened when she was previously captured. True to Autumn's word they were brought before Orvus, who watched over the Great Clock and Time itself, Alister Azimuth, the highest ranking Lombax, not counting Kaden, and Virtuous, another version of Nefarious that required some explanation for them to understand his specific situation. The rest of Polaris was fine with them, Qwark, the siblings, and the remaining members of Ratchet's family declaring what sort of punishment they would suffer through for a long period of time, since Vendra was expecting them to be serving a sentence for a long time, especially after all the damage they did to the barrier between dimensions. Based on what Vendra could tell the only reason for this was because Orvus and the Zoni were the watchers of time, so they could see all of their sins, while Alister and Kaden, like all Lombaxes, were known for their logical minds, so this was to ensure they suffered a punishment that was appropriate of their crimes.

What she discovered, however, was that their charges were basically dropped, as they didn't harm the people of the few planets they had forced people to evacuate, most had enough possessions to start over without too much trouble, and, in the end, Mr. Eye had manipulated them, so everything wasn't totally their fault. It was unbelievable, even though Vendra had a feeling that Ratchet, Autumn, and Starswirl had a hand in figuring everything out, as they had been in 'custody' for a week before the 'trial', before they got onto their punishment, since one was required to ensure that they weren't a danger to the rest of reality. She only half listened to what Orvus had to say on the matter, even though she did catch that they would be working with Kaden and himself to fix the damage they had caused to both the barrier between dimensions and the rest of the universe, since their experiments had other consequences than they knew. Their punishment was far more acceptable than she was expecting, especially since she had plans to make it up to Ratchet, after some time, and to do so they needed to make sure the barrier was safe and sound, that was the first step anyway, hence why she needed to speak with Clank, Kaden, and Ratchet's siblings at one point.

After the trial on Fastoon, a planet the Twins never expected to be brought to, they were transported to the Great Clock, as Orvus wanted to make sure they were nearby while they worked, even though he also insisted that they actually take care of their bodies, before revealing something shocking to them.

While the portals between this dimension and the Netherverse were open a few Zoni slipped through, back on Silox, and when everyone fought Mr. Eye they returned once the other portal was torn open, allowing him to discover a truth he had hoped was avoidable. Apparently, when the Twins were too young to remember what had happened, their parents, who were rebels fighting against the tyranny of Mr. Eye and his dark rule, found a breach in the barrier that allowed them to send Vendra and Neftin through. They fought to keep them safe and sound, so that no one would find them until either they brought down their foe or he slew them, only their father, a genius who made the armor Mr. Eye would later wear all over his body, was enslaved while their mother was chained up with the rest of the rebels. In the end both fell in the wake of Mr. Eye's desire to conquer all of the Netherverse, even though he eventually found where they sent the Twins, causing him to start lying to them when he realized that he could use them as pawns in his conquest of every dimension.

Vendra, while glad that their parents had loved them and upset that they were no longer around, found some joy in the fact that she and Neftin had gotten their revenge on Mr. Eye, both for betraying them and for killing their parents, while Neftin was glad that they were no longer being manipulated by the figure in question.

Following that discovery Vendra and Neftin got to work repairing all the damage they had done to the universe, focusing on the barrier between dimensions for the most part, while also updating several machines around the Great Clock with either Kaden or Autumn, or even both, helping them do so. Virtuous also suggested that they undergo therapy, since the Twins had been through a lot since coming to this dimension, and while they did so he discovered something interesting, Vendra loved to spend some of her time with Ratchet and his existing wives, while Neftin was just happy that his sister had embraced the new live that had been offered to them. Of course he also spent some time hanging out with Autumn, mostly to see what else she was capable of, but for the most part Neftin focused on his studies of the Great Clock and doing his service, as he knew that his sister had a plan and wanted to help her fulfill it. Neftin also refrained from saying anything to Ratchet or his siblings, as this particular surprise was to make up for everything they had done since starting their experiments, though it all hinged on whether or not Clank and Vendra could convince Kaden of their desire.

Vendra didn't enact her plan immediately, rather she spent the first month seriously enjoying her new life, even if she had to work hard to undo the damage that their experiments had done to the barrier, before deciding that it was time to set things in motion, hence why she and Clank met up before stopping at Kaden's workshop.

"Kaden, we need to talk." Vendra said, though she was impressed by the section of the Great Clock that was his workshop, an area that contained all sorts of machines and devices that would either go into maintaining the massive station, keeping track of the barrier's health, or whatever else he and the others designed them to do.

"If it's about your community service, you've still got a lot of time to cover before you and Neftin will be free to head back out into the universe." Kaden replied, because he knew that there were multiple reasons that she would have come to talk with him, save for her interest in his son since she had asked him about that in the first week, and figured that it had to be about everything she and Neftin had to do before their sentence was done.

"No, it's... about the damage we've done and how I plan on making it up to Ratchet." Vendra stated, as while Neftin might be interested in wrapping up their community service, to prove to the rest of Polaris that they weren't a threat, her focus was on another matter entirely, causing the Lombax to turn towards her and notice that Clank was standing next to her with a familiar device in his hands, "Clank and I have a plan, and to fulfill it we need your help."

"You are the only one who knows the inner workings of the Dimensionator... I know Ratchet thinks it's dead, but I do know that you can rebuild it." Clank added, because while many might find it insane to work with Vendra on a Dimensionator, after everything she and Neftin had done with their makeshift device, he agreed with her plan and came with her to see if they could convince Kaden to give his son the greatest gift of all.

"This version is fried, there's no way it'll work... damn it Mags, I told you not to mess with the Dimensionator." Kaden said, only it was more like a comment as he accepted the device from Clank and stared at the mess that it was left in, though he was pleased to see that, despite all of the damage that it had taken from the modifications Mags made and the abuse that it suffered while in Tachyon's hands, the Phase Quartz was intact and unharmed.

"Wait... this 'version'?!" Vendra asked, as this was the first time she had heard that there were different versions of it, and she had refrained from asking Ratchet about it out of fear that he would discover what she had planned, causing her to glance from Clank to Kaden as she waited for one of them to say something.

"During one of our previous adventures, Ratchet informed me and his siblings that there was a previous form that it took, a gun of sorts." Clank explained, though he understood Vendra's interest and confusion on the matter, as he had shared it when Ratchet recalled the memory in question, though that caused him to focus on Kaden, who was looking deeper into the device now that it wasn't needed to stop an invasion from another dimension.

"I, along with several other Lombaxes, made the original, while Mags made this one to fulfill a task that the Council tasked him with," Kaden said, where he breathed a sigh of relief as he looked into the systems of the Dimensionator and found that, despite all the damage it had suffered, it wasn't as badly damaged as he or Neftin believed it to be, it was just burned out from it's form and all the modifications Mags made, "It'll take some time, and some real effort given everything that Mags added to make his design work, but we can revert it back to it's original form... most of the systems are, in fact, intact, a few things need to be changed out, and I need to run a systems check to be sure the core integrity is stable... wouldn't want it to blow up and put us one step closer to the Dimensional Cataclysm."

"How long will it take to remake it and fix the barrier? I'm thinking of throwing a celebration for Ratchet on his birthday, and this seems like the best present I could ask for." Vendra asked, because time was the key to this plan, if it took longer than eleven months, which would put them on Ratchet's birthday, the same day that most of their adventures happened, it would ruin everything and put it off for another year, but if it was under eleven they might have a chance.

"If we work hard, eleven months... ten and a half if we're lucky." Kaden answered, though at the same time he noticed the gears in Clank's and Vendra's heads turning as he said that, causing him to beckon them close so he could listen to their plan, every detail of it, because if they were going to do this he needed to know everything.

In the end, however, he agreed with the plan and they got to work, as they still had to fix the barrier between dimensions and repair the Dimensionator to it's previous form, but he knew that it was time to finally set things right and reunite his children, he just had to be patient and hoped Ratchet would like his gift when the time came.
