The Costume Problem

Deciding on a costume (Edited by Echo Breeze) (Updated 1/18/2023)

It was mid-October at CHS, and Halloween was fast approaching. The school was having a party on the night of Halloween, and many students throughout CHS had their costumes decided on and had gotten them mostly completed by now.

Some had decided to either wear an old costume they wore in the past or just completely make or buy a new one as for many students it was gonna be their final year at CHS before graduating the coming year.

But not everyone had decided on their costumes for the party. The Main Seven, commonly known as the Rainbooms, had yet to decide on a costume to dress up as.

So after much thinking, they decided to discuss it after school and think of an idea for what they should dress up as.

After their last class of the day ended, the group of friends met up in their usual hangout spot in the music room of CHS. Once they all were there they began to think of ideas on what they should dress up as for the Halloween party.

Many of them had already thought of something and hoped that their pick would be chosen so they’d know what to dress up for the party.

“I was thinking we all should be princesses. So we can all show CHS how lovely we are,” said Rarity.

“As great as that would be Rarity, I think I’m gonna have to pass on this one,” replied Applejack before the rest of the girls agreed with her they’d pass on Rarity’s option.

Applejack was right, they didn’t wear dresses often. Plus most of the girls do recall in the past that Rainbow Dash has shared with them that she doesn’t always prefer wearing them. Even if she is a girl or not. In fact, during that year's Formal the previous year, she ended up coming in a tuxedo compared to the rest of her friends in dresses. So now they were back to the drawing board.

“Oh, rats. Does anyone else have a better idea?” Asked Rarity.

“We could dress up as the Daring Do Characters we played from the movie we had a part in!” Suggested Rainbow Dash.

“Rainbow Dash, how many times do I have to remind you? Those costumes we wore, we weren’t allowed to keep after the filming was completed! I recall you asked them if we could, but we couldn’t, they belonged to the people who signed the lease to be used for the movie. Plus. I don’t think Rarity wants to be doing all the work for our costumes like she’s done in the past,” replied Twilight.

“She has a point, Rainbow,” replied Sunset.

“Indeed you’re right Sunset. I already have a lot on my plate with other costumes to make for other students who have asked me to make them.”

“Ok then, what about you Sunset? What do you think we should dress up as?” Rainbow Dash asked.

“I was thinking it should be video game themed. We all dress up as video game characters.”

This got them all interested in Sunset’s idea.

“Speaking of the theme, what will it be?” Asked Pinkie Pie.

“I’m glad you asked Pinkie. I was thinking that we should all pick from a hat on who gets to be who. Each little tab of paper will have the name of a video game character. Whoever the character is written on it, it’ll be the video game character you are. But there’s a catch.”

“A catch?” Said Fluttershy.

“We aren’t allowed to share who our character is until the night of the party. So until then, we all have to keep it a secret. Is everyone ok with that?”

The rest of the group of friends didn’t seem to be too concerned about it but soon picked a tab of paper from the hat and took a look at the name of the video game character they’d dressed up. They then left the music room to go home for the day and to get started on their costumes.

But what Sunset didn’t realize was that she accidentally wrote the same name on all of the tabs of paper. And they’d be in for a surprise when it comes to biting them back in the neck when Halloween arrives.

It was Halloween. Many children were going from house to house trick or treating, while students of CHS were arriving for the Halloween party.

Rarity was happy with the choice she got for her costume. Boswette is the female version of Bowser from the Super Mario franchise.

Her costume consisted of a crow, a horn headband, a turtle shell, lots of spikes all over, and a long black dress with a blue pearl in the middle.

“Oh, I so can’t wait to see what the others have dressed up as. I hope they’re all-”

But just before Rarity could continue, she noticed something about the rest of her friends that surprised her with their costumes.

Right in front of her were all her friends, in the same costume that she was wearing! Aside from Spike who was dressed up as Mario.

Rarity was just at a loss for words for what she saw before her. She was so angry she felt like screaming until Sunset decided to explain how this happened.

“So uh, sorry I forgot to mention this but I kinda wrote down the same names on all the tabs for your costumes by accident. I guess when I wrote them, I wasn’t fully paying attention. So it seems like we all ended up dressing up as Boswette. Sorry girls.”

While Sunset was disappointed with her idea going down the drain her friends didn’t blame her. It was just an accident and they honestly thought it would make their senior year Halloween a year to remember as they were not gonna let their last Halloween at CHS be a bad one.

And so they all went inside to attend to all the activities going on and ended up having a good time in the end.

Rarity eventually got over it, since what mattered is that she got to spend Halloween together with her six best friends. What truly mattered what their friendship, no matter how bad your mistakes and decisions often turn out to be, like what happened to Sunset Shimmer the previous year.
