Prologue 4: Goodbye

Dead? Luna stood dumbfounded at what she had just been told, a girl that both she and her sister had found laying in front of the school’s statue died, four years no less. It seemed impossible, “Are you sure?” skepticism in her tone.

She heard ruffling on over the phone, papers being shifted around before her friend’s voice returned from the silence, “Positive, I’m looking at her records in front of me right now. Sunset Shimmer, died at the age of seven in a car wreck alongside with her parents’ Crystal Shard and Lunar Shore. No known relatives.

Questions swam through her mind, Chrysalis wouldn’t had made any mistakes with her research, that woman could bypass Governmental level of security without leaving a trace. That left questions about the girl, “Can you send me those documents?”

It had not been a second before she could hear the sound of fingers against keys, “Done, I sent it to your personal email account. What are you going to do about this anomaly?”

“Anomaly?”

“Can’t really call her Sunset since she is reported dead and since we haven’t got any other name to go on that doesn’t match the description of someone who is dead, I figure it would be the most suitable. She defies normality just by being alive, how? Why? When these reports were accurately taken from trusted sources, but that’s just me.”

Chrysalis had a point and Luna tried to think of what she had been told, “I’ll speak this with Tia, see what she has to say about this.”

“Knowing her, she’ll want to get involve with this child-“ Chrysalis’ voice took a concerning tone as if warning the dangers it may implicate, and given what they were dealing with, this fear was not unfounded. “just be safe, I don’t want to have to lose two more good friends.” Luna was about to say something before the sound of a click ended their call.

With the call ended, she ready herself for another call. “Please, give me strength.

Celestia had finished filing out some paper works for the hospital, with the confirmation from the Head Director of the hospital, Neighsay. And now with the exhausting paperwork out of the way, she can make a stop to retrieve some late dinner.

She made her way on to the car when her phone in her back pocket had started to ring, “Never fails. Every time I head off, someone always want something.” She whispered to herself as she reached on for the phone. Pulling it out, she saw on her caller id her sister’s name. ‘Luna? Wonder what she wants.’ “Hello?”

“Sister, things may be more complicated than we’d originally anticipated.” The tone in her sister’s voice was enough to make Celestia know that this was going to be one of those days.

“What happened?”

Princess Celestia was on her way on towards where one of her guard had reported to last spot her once protégé. Along side her is another alicorn, though not as tall as the other nor white as she was pink.

“What happened Aunty?” the younger alicorn asked, nervousness in her voice as she strode on beside the larger alicorn, watching the hallway they were walking on through slowly turned warped, the putrid odor of burnt … marble, clay, metal, and just about anything you could find in the palace. Cracks were seen forming along the ground as if something burst on into the room, laying on the ground were three royal guard ponies breathing heavily as others stood around preforming spells.

“Sunset Shimmer,” Celestia looks on at the carnage that stood before her, dreaded of what her student had done. “I fear of what could come of this.” She looked on to the guard that had lead them here, “Report!”

It was a newly trained guard, a unicorn with white coat and blue mane, “Y-yes ma’am!” he saluted nervously, “Besides the injuries being treated, there were no casualty. The culprit was last spotted in the Relic Room before she had disappeared.”

The Relic Room? What could she had bee-‘ Celestia quickly galloped onto where Sunset had disappeared too, ‘If she went there, there could only be one thing there she would be after. I pray I’m not too late.’ Bursting on into the room, she rushed over to a mirror that sat on a pedestal, raising a hoof onto the hard surface one would expect of a mirror. ‘Oh no!

Her head drooped down, having to not only failed with her sister, but now with her student who were now gone. Tears threatened to escape from the grown mare, ‘I should’ve done better, what could I had done to prevent this?’

She was lost in her wallow, not noticing another had came into the room as well, heading on over to where she sat, “Aunt Tia?” the soft voice of Cadance snapped Celestia on out of her guilt.

The two looked on at the mirror, seeing the two alicorns reflecting on back at them. At least that was what Cadance could see for Celestia saw an amber unicorn filly smiling in the center of the two, her bright smile.

Goodbye, my Sunset.
