The story begins with a barrel floating in the sea, near a whirlpool. On board a cruise ship, two sailors discover the barrel.
A formal dance is being organized on the ship, with rich passengers, and one of them invites a very young girl with light pink hair (Fluttershy) to dance. Meanwhile, the two sailors manage to fish the barrel, and when they already have it, a sailor discovers a pirate ship, known as "The Dark Duck", this fires at the cruise ship, causing the barrel to roll into the kitchen. Panic spread among the passengers, as the pirates began to board, led by Captain Alvido "Iron Fist".
As the pirates attack the ship, Luster Dawn, a young slave from Alvido, sneaks into the kitchen and discovers the barrel and decides to take it to her captain's ship. As she drags the barrel, she meets three pirates from the same crew as her. They tell her that they are thirsty for her, hinting that they would keep the barrel. When one of the pirates is about to open the barrel with his fist, it is blown open, leaving a girl wearing a gold crown with a magenta jewel in the shape of a six-pointed star, called Twilight Sparkle.
The pirates try to attack her, but they are easily defeated and flee in fear. Luster stays with Twilight talking, while she is going to the cellar and begins to eat apples from a box.
While she eats, Twilight asks Luster if they are on a pirate ship, and she replies that no, rather they are on a ship that is being attacked by pirates. Twilight explains how her boat was destroyed by the whirlpool, and why she was inside the barrel, then Luster explains how she ended up in Alvido's crew and how her life has been since then. In that moment, Twilight mentions her dream: to become "The Queen of Equestria" (the legendary kingdom that belonged to her former king, Star Swirl "The Barbadian", before he died, revealing that whoever arrives there will become her new ruler, beginning "The Great Magic Era"), and Luster reacts scared to hear his wish.
At the same time that this conversation is going on, the pirates of Alvido realize that there is a "monster" on the ship. They are also unaware that Fluttershy is stealing all of his treasures.
Alvido appears from the roof of the cellar and sees Twilight, realizing that she is not Rainbow Dash (a famous local bounty hunter). Twilight asks Luster who the "fat old man" is, which makes her very enraged. Alvido attacks Luster, but Twilight grabs her and throws herself out of the cellar.
On deck, she is attacked by the Alvido pirates, but they are all defeated. Then, Twilight explains that she is a kind of "woman made of pure energy", since she ate the "Magic Magic Fruit" (a powerful fruit that allows the consumer of hers to launch lightning bolts and energy balls with her hands). She also says that she wants to find the kingdom of Equestria, but for that she first has to get a crew.
Alvido asks Luster again who is the most beautiful man in the world, hoping for an answer that he was the most beautiful, but Luster, inspired by Twilight's actions, yells at Alvido that he is the oldest, fattest and ugly. Alvido becomes enraged and tries to kill Luster with the steel glove on her face, but Twilight stands in the middle of her and, since hers is hers, her body of pure energy, she doesn't affect the attack.
Twilight recoils and generates, with her hands, a huge and powerful beam of energy (a technique that she christened "Stella Magna"), which sends Alvido into the air. Next, Twilight orders the pirates to get a ship for Luster and her to sail away from her, which they fearfully obey.
While sailing, a curious Twilight asks Luster about the Rainbow Dash that Alvido mentioned. Starlight tells him that she was recently captured by the Navy and Twilight reveals that she plans to ask him to join her future crew.
