Choose Your Own Ending: Twilight Sleeps in Canterlot

by Twilight Star

Start: The Invitation

Celestia had just finished her royal duties inside the throne room. She had a smile of relief. She was a little tired, but despite that, she managed to stay awake, since she was used to having real duties all day. Celestia opened the golden door with her magic, and saw that her younger sister was already dining at the table. She came over to sit and saw that Luna was eating tomato soup.

Luna heard footsteps and saw Celestia, she soon smiled. “Good night sister! How was the royal duties in the throne room?”

“It was full, Luna. Many nobles came to me today to resolve matters of politics, economics,” Celestia replied as she sat on Luna’s left side. Her soup was vegetable. “What about you, Luna?”

“I slept well,” Luna replied with a smile as she took some of the soup from the plate with her spoon and ate.

Celestia looked at her soup, took the spoon with her magic, took some of the soup with her, and ate. The vegetable mix in her soup was good. While eating, she started thinking about Twilight. She wondered what her student was doing now. She would like to be able to spend time with her student before she goes to sleep, maybe after dinner she could send a letter to Twilight.

“But ... despite that, I have been feeling without company.” Luna looked at Celestia a little sadly.

Celestia looked confused by what Luna just said. “What do you mean, Luna?”

Luna was now scratching her knee with a front hoof. She was very nervous that Celestia could respond with what she had been feeling for the past few nights. “It’s just that Sister… these last nights… I have been alone without somepony to be with me. I mean, I have my video game so I can stay awake, but I would like a real company to stay with me tonight.”

“But Luna, who do you want for company?” asked Celestia. She was hoping it wasn’t Twilight, since she was the one who wanted to invite her to spend the night together.

“Twilight Sparkle. She was the only pony that showed no fear of me and that helped me at Nightmare Night,” Luna replied with a smile just remembering that night. As much as a month has passed since that holiday, Luna remembered that night as if it were yesterday. “After I have dinner, I plan to write her a letter.”

Celestia was speechless at Luna’s response. But she wanted to spend the night with Twilight. “But Luna ... I wanted to spend that night with Twilight, too.”

Luna looked at Celestia in surprise. “What? You too? But sister, I’ve been feeling lonely these last few, and she’s my only best friend I have.”

“I know that Twilight is your only best friend, Luna. But I wanted the company of Twilight so I could spend time with her.” Celestia explained to Luna why she wanted the company of Twilight.

“But what are we going to do then if we both want Twilight company on the same night?” asked Luna in a worried tone and with a raised hoof.

Celestia started to think of a solution while putting the hoof on her chin. How could they have Twilight company in one night? One thing she knew: whenever they finished dinner, they both went to their rooms, so there was no way Twilight could be in two rooms at the same time, Twilight would have to stay in one of the rooms, either hers or Luna’s. Celestia started to get an idea of how they could solve this. Maybe she could send a letter to Twilight saying that she and Luna needed her. She soon looked at Luna with a smile.

“Luna, I just had an idea if we can solve this,” said Celestia, all excited about her idea.

“What is your idea, Sister?” asked Luna, now curious about what Celestia’s idea would be.

“I’m going to send a letter to Twilight saying that we both need it and I’m going to state why we need her.”

Luna actually liked the idea. “It’s a good idea!”

“You’re welcome, Luna.” Celestia brought out a scroll, an ink and a red feather. She dipped the pen in the ink and started writing. Luna just watched her older sister write. After that, they both intended to go to their rooms, waiting for Twilight. One thing they knew: one would be happy to have Twilight company overnight and another would be alone and sad all night.

Twilight and Spike had just finished dinner. Spike took the two forks, the plates and glasses, and piled them up as he carried them into the kitchen. Twilight got up from the table and shelf to choose a book to read. There were so many choices of books on the shelves that she didn’t even know which one to choose to read now. There was fiction, non-fiction, romance, mystery, terror….

But Twilight’s thoughts about which book to choose were interrupted by a burp sound. Twilight’s ears perked up and she turned to go to the kitchen to see what happened.

“Spike? It’s all right?” asked Twilight, in a worried tone.

Upon reaching the kitchen, she saw Spike with a rolled scroll. “Yes, Twilight. I’m fine. But it looks like there’s a letter for you,” he showed the scroll to Twilight.

The parchment caught her eye. “A letter from the princess!” Twilight took it and opened the parchment to read it.

“Dear Twilight, I know it’s night time now and you should probably be having dinner, but when you’re done, could you go to Canterlot? Luna and I need your help. We were feeling alone tonight and we would like you to spend the night with us. But unfortunately you can only choose one of us to spend the night, since Luna and I don’t have a room we both sleep together. Luna and I are waiting for you in our rooms. Your teacher Celestia signed. ”

“So, Twilight? What’s written?” asked Spike, curious.

Twilight looked at Spike to answer. “The Princesses need my help at the castle.”

“What do they need help with?” asked Spike, even more curious.

“In the letter it are saying they were feeling alone these nights and would like me to spend the night with them, Spike,” Twilight replied, but soon her tone changed to concern as she looked at Spike. “Spike, can you be okay without me tonight?”

“Well, I won’t deny that I’m going to miss you, but if they need you at the castle, I can do it for you,” Spike replied.

Twilight smiled at the answer and hugged him. “Thank you, Spike.” Spike soon returned the hug with a smile.

Upon leaving the embrace, Twilight took her backpack, and put five books in the backpack before putting it on her back and leaving. If she was going to spend a night at the castle with the one of princesses, she was going to bring books to read with a princess. She just hoped the train wouldn’t be long in coming and that she wouldn’t be late at the castle. But she started to remember the antepenultimate part of the letter, she could only spend the night with one of the Royal Sisters. And now? Who should she choose to sleep with? Princess Celestia or Princess Luna?

Princess Celestia
