Prologue. A New Old Face

A beautiful spring day. The cold winter has been left long ago, and now the sun regains its throne within the sky.
Down on earth the flowers sprout, filling the city environment with colors and aromas.

At Canterlot High School a new school day is about to begin. One by one, the young students arrive ready to start their classes.

Few, and none, notice a girl standing in front of the school statue.
This girl looks up at the school’s symbolic steed.

“Canterlot High. It is my third school this year. I wonder if…”

Her voice is just a whisper to herself, and she then turns around to enter the school.

Meanwhile, inside the building – in the principal’s office – we see Celestia herself, sitting at her desk. Her face is calm, but there is a slight tension in her body.

She opens her eyes just a little, and leads them to a document sitted to one side. Separated from so many others on her desk, her gaze is focused upon the writing on top.

"Transfer request"

Those words give her a slight chill for some reason, and her mind goes back in time to a week ago.

The transfer request is dropped on her desk in a rush, altough with an orderly fashion. Celestia picks it up and takes a look at it, she allows herself to reread the writing on the papee a couple of times; and even so, needs a moment in silence to think.

After several minutes that felt too long, she looks at her younger sister and fellow colleague Vice Principal of the school, Luna.

“It’s this a joke?”

Luna raises an eyebrow but her face remains as serious as usual in her.

“We have known each other for more than thirty years. Do you ever recall a moment where I made a joke?“

Her voice is serious as ever. And Celestia tries to say something, but her voice catches in her throat.

Neither of the sisters speak again. Celestia is still surprised and thoughtful; Luna, on her part, although remains calm she doesn’t seem sure about what to say.

Finally it is the younger sister who breaks that awkward silence.

“In any case, I have already confirmed the documents and academic record. There is no reason to deny the request… at least not a formal one.“

The older sister rests one arm on the desk and touches her forehead with her fingers, her head seems to hurt suddenly.

“Of course we aren’t obliged to accept it either. Do you want me to call and say that- “

“No.” Celestia interrupts the Vice Principal dryly and straightens up in her seat.

“We cannot reject a student just due of personal emotions.”

“This is a bit more complicated than that.”

Celestia decides not to speak anymore and simply picks up a stamp in green ink, pressing it on the request. Luna doesn’t speak or do anything about said action. That stamp, and a signature, fill in the spaces of the document.

“Done.”
“Are you sure about this?”

“Honestly Luna, I haven’t been sure of anything for a long time.”

The Vice Principal doesn’t respond, she just takes the paper and turns to leave. At the door, she turns back slightly to say a few last words.

“A new chapter is about to begin in our school. We better be ready.“

With that, the ‘dark’ woman leaves. Her sister is only silent with her thoughts. Seeing herself alone she falls into her seat.

“I’m ready for it to end …”

That strong and vivid memory in her head makes her almost shudder. She forces herself to leave her body motionless from hers, refusing to show any trembling.

“Have I made the right decission?” Celestia wonders internally. Of course, no one can give hee an answer.

A couple of minutes pass in silence, the woman still preparing for what is to come. And it is then when a knock is heard at the door.

Celestia allows herself a second to calm her breathing, straighten her back and shoulders, keep a calm and mature expression on her face. After that, she speaks.

“Come in.”
A second passes, then another, and then Celestia sees the doorknob move. The door opens, neither fast nor slow, it just opens. And someone enters.

Celestia feels her shoulders tense, but she forces herself to lower them and not be nervous. She clears her throat so that her voice does not fail her, she puts on a gentle and calm smile.

“Good morning, welcome to Canterlot High School. I am Principal Celestia.“

~ * ~ * ~

The bell rings to start the day’s clases, each students take their places. Among them is the recognizable quintet nicknamed the ‘Rainbooms’.

The five friends don’t usually share the same class at the same time, so it is a unique day for all of them.

There are a couple more of conversations and greetings between all the students, until the teacher is seen entering the room.

“Good morning students. I know everyone is eager to start class.“

The teacher’s tone has a slight hint of joking sarcasm, which prompts a few giggles from some students.

“However, you will have to calm your cravings as I have an announcement. Today a new student will join us at the school.“

The news wins the expected responses. There is surprise, some confusion but a lot of interest, and in some even emotion. The girl with the fluffy pink hair has a lot of the latter.
The murmurs and questions among the young people don’t take long in coming, and the teacher only lets them be for a moment before resuming his role as the authority of the classroom.

“Allright, allright, enough of all the whispering. This young woman came to our school from Trottingham School. I trust everyone here will give her a warm welcome and make her feel comfortable at our school.“

All the teenagers smile, their interest in the new student is still present and seems to be increasing.

“Well, let’s not dwell on the matter any further. Let’s welcome our new classmate. Please come in.” He speaks towards the door.

It opens and a figure walks into the room.

At first all are smiles of interest but soon these fall, leaving in their place looks of intrigue, and some of surprise.

The five friends open their eyes full of shock, unable to believe what they are seeing.

This girl, the newcomer, walks calmly until she is in front of everyone. She wears dark sneakers with a symbol adorning it – a small white and gold sun. Her legs are covered up to mid-thigh by an orange skirt, which is adorned with the same symbol and a similar one: a red and yellow sun. In her arms she carries some school books and wears a soft purple blouse with purple stripes, a small cream-colored bow hangs around her neck.

Her red and yellow hair flows calmly as she walks. Behind of the pair of thick black glasses, her turquoise eyes shows a lively but calm glow, just like her smile.

All the teens in the room are stunned, surprised, some almost bewildered. Our renowned quintet are the ones who are the most shocked.

All eyes are on that girl, who just smiles and waits a moment before finally speaking, always keeping a smile.

“Hello, good mornig to everyone! My name is Sunset Shimmer, and it’s a pleasure to meet you.“
