Hourglass

"Mama? Mama? Are you there?" A brown colt looked around uncertainly. He was in the middle of a forest with blue flowers and trees with scary faces. He realized calling for his mother wouldn't help, a Pegasus like her could fly away in a second, especially when leaving something, or somepony annoying behind. Who was he kidding? His adopted Pegasus family was always mean to him, and was ready to leave him on the ground, not even lifting a hoof to carry him. Since he was an earth pony, he mostly stayed at home while his family went to dinner, or to the movies. He had wanted to come until his stepbrother, Flash had cornered him and asked him why he was begging to his parents. He had told him, and Flash just laughed. " Our family doesn't need you, a worthless, flightless, earth pony." The colt could remember how his heart had jumped up and down, as Flash carried on with a more serious look. "Anyway, if we brought you, ponies would notice, and we'd be the laughing weed of the neighborhood, and my family would be embarrassed." The colt still had his heart jumping up and down, but now his mind was racing, and he ran away, crying. "Sweetie, what's going on? Why are you crying?" It was his mother, coming down from the cloud part of the house, which had the family rooms; all except his. She flew down to him just as he tripped on one of Flash's things. "Sweetie, are you okay? What happened?" "Ma-mama! Ow...." It wasn't just his face that hurt, but his heart swelled with emotional pain. "Flash.... you don't...... love..... or need........ ME." he said between breaths. "WHAT???!!!!!" she screamed. "That Flash doesn't know what he's talking about." She said, almost rushed, like she was nervous. "Really? Or was that the truth? For all I know, you could be planning to take me to the Everfree Forest tomorrow!" he replied. His stepmother had looked horrified.
That had been the day before. Now, after the brown colt had seen this flash-back, he realized he hadn't seen his step-father very often. In fact the last time he had seen him was a week ago. Even though his family might not have loved him, he had loved them more than his original one. Well, he never knew his original family. He wondered if he had had a older brother, like Flash, or a nice one. He did remember, though, that when he went out of the house, weird things had happened. Once, a man stared at him while he passed by, and another time, a little girl walked up to him and asked if he would walk past him. He just shrugged and trotted on. As he passed, the girl called, "Thank you!!!!" and he had just kept going, calling, "You're welcome. It was nothing." He had no idea what thrill people got from having him just walk past.
He started to walk slowly through the forest, trying not to step on anything blue, or weird looking. He realized something- he missed mama. When she had tucked him in the night before, she had been lightly crying. He had asked what was wrong, and she just smiled weakly and said, "I just love you so much." That night, though, he had heard voices. One he recognized was that of his daddie's.
While he was walking, the sun set, and the night sky rose, thanks to Luna. He wondered what it was like in Equestria other than Cloudsville, a Pegasus and Earth pony neighborhood. He had never been outside that neighborhood........
It was getting darker, so he tried to find a tree to sleep under. When he did, he fell into a deep slumber. His dreams were haunted by Flash, doing mean things to him. He woke up 3 times, and each time he awoke to darkness.

The next morning, he woke up to birds chirping, a rooster crowing, and an out of control Pegasus. Wait a minute. You heard me right, because when the colt woke up, the first thing he saw was a gray Pegasus speeding towards him. "Look out!!!!!!!!!!" "AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" CRASH! "Ugh.." As the colt tried to get up, he saw the Pegasus, laying down with her wing in a weird position. She was a cute, grey pegasus with a blonde mane. Her cutie mark was bubbles, and she was groaning. "Not again," she said, looking at her wing.

Much, MUCH later.........

The new Dr. Whooves stepped out of the chapel, newlywed wife, Derpy Whooves close by while rice rained down on the couple. Everypony who was there knew the mailmare from the post office, and the Doctor was fine with not being popular for dropping bombs and pianos on ponies. He had a great life, and it was already getting better. As he got into the horse drawn carriage, he looked at his wife who had a huge smile on her face. Once they got in, she turned to him and smiled. Her eyes were as beautiful as always, and as crooked as always. She was his new wife, and he loved her. He couldn't help feeling as though he stared at her with a goofy grin for 10 minutes, or until they reached their first destination, Las Pegasus.

After a night at the restaurant and at the museum, they settled in at a hotel.

The next day they traveled to Fillydelphia. They had fun at the county dance and the rodeo. He had experienced fun, but this was one of the best nights ever. As his bride looked at him, she only saw intelligence, and love. She was so happy, she had never felt such strong feelings for a stallion, and she was in love.

After many stops, they slowed down in front of a house that was too familiar to Dr. Whooves. It was the nightmare factory which was better known as the Sky residence. As the couple walked down what used to be a beautiful sidewalk, they came to the door. Dr. Whooves took a deep breath and pressed the door bell. Who answered the door surprised him. "Flash?" it was indeed the older stallion who had once bullied him.The older pony looked really worn down. "Flash? Is that you? Who's at the door?" a clenched-teeth voice said from the house. Flash looked back with annoyance, and said, "It's just my stepbrother and some other mare. Your assistant?" The doctor was annoyed by this insult to his newlywed wife, but it was what came next that really lit his fuze. " And what's with the eyes? And both cutie marks? An hourglass. Bubbles. Really?!!" "Really? Are you jealous of my good fortune? And your cutie mark fits you. Really." Flash's cutie mark was a storm cloud with a frown and eyes. When he heard the brown stallion say this, Flash glanced down at his flank and cringed. The two continued to shoot words at each other until Derpy piped in. " Hey, anyone want a muffin?" The stepbrothers were surprised until Dr. Whooves chuckled and kissed his wife on the cheek. "That's what I love about you." and the two left, leaving a trail of muffins behind.

Many months later, the Docter paced outside a hospital room. It felt like years, but after a minute, the nurse let him in. He rushed in to see Derpy holding a pink blanket with a tiny purple horn sticking out. She handed him the blanket, and he saw his little bundle of joy for the first time. "Welcome to Equestria, Dinky Whooves."
