“Auntie Celestia! Auntie Celestia!” a pink alicorn burst through the gates of the royal chamber of princess Celestia.
“What’s the matter Cadence?” asked the ever smiling, always shinning Celestia, who was resting in a pile of pillows, looking at her bouncing niece in front of her.
“Something wonderful has occurred, guess what! guess what!!!!”
“The council approved your new foal sitting program?” Celestia asked with a playful look on her face.
“No, that’s not it!”
“The Wonder Bolts agreed to make a visit to the orphanage?”
“No……well, yes, but that’s not it!!” Cadence answered still bouncing and smiling side to side.
“Then Im afraid to be lost my dear niece, but do tell me, what is this wonderful event that has made you so happy?” Celestia replied smiling at whatever the source of happiness of her niece was.
“Shining Armor proposed to me this evening Auntie!” Cadence semi-shouted in excitement and proceed to describe in detail how it had happen, while Celestia just listened to her wonderful experience smiling to her and nodding when she asked her something. Luckily for Celestia however, Cadence didn’t notice the small cracking noise below the pillows where she was resting.

The changeling invasion had ended in the defeat of queen Chrysalis and her forces at the hooves of Shining Armor and Cadence using the power of their love. In all honesty it made Celestia sick, but everypony was safe and that is all that mattered, now the true wedding was over, she had wanted to vomit and cry at the same time while presiding the ceremony now it was time for the party outside in the Canterlot gardens.
“Let’s get this party started!” the pink party pony announced and a moment later the music was playing a more lively tune, tossing a microphone as it started and being caught by Twilight mid-air with her magic.
“Twilight” that single name raced through her head for the up tenth this day, the lavender unicorn looked so beautiful in that dress, those big expressive eyes and her perfectly clean and smooth coat was enough to make anypony fall in love with her, she was her protégé, her personal student and her more trusted pony, aside from Luna herself, but she was also the one who had revived that long lost hope inside of her heart, with every laugh, every smile, every tear, every fail, every success Twilight made, Celestia could not deny the fact that Twilight was more to her than she was willing to accept to herself.
“Love is in bloom, a beautiful bride a handsome groom” Twilight began singing.
“Sweet heavens” she thought “her voice is so beautiful”
“Two hearts becoming one, a bond that cannot be undone because, Love is in bloom!”
She couldn’t hear anything more of that song, that song was a sour reminder of what she desired and could not have; she smiled looking at her faithful student, a sad smile, knowing she was so close “yet unreachable”.
Slowly and unnoticed she excused herself from the party, still hearing the beautiful singing voice of her faithful student, she went to her personal chambers, finally allowing herself to drop her fake smile and finally drop on her bed and cry.
“It’s not fair”

“WHY!??, WHY CAN´T YOU LOVE ME BACK?” muffle cries and sobbing followed the angry shouts of a devastated Celestia.
“………..I simply can’t Celestia” a big red coated earth pony with a green mane and tail and a blue cloud for a cutie mark looked to the ground unable to meet the gaze of his princess “you must under---“.
“D-did I *sob* do something w-wrong? Am I not a-appealing enough for you? I c-can *sniffle* change anything you want!, but please tell me why can’t you love me Red Sky?” Celestia asked, with tears falling like a broken damp from her eyes, looking hopefully at the red stallion before her.
Red Sky meet gaze with Celestia in a worried and somewhat pained look “No! no, it’s nothing like that Celestia, you are the most beautiful and perfect being that I had the honor to lay my eyes on, for me you are perfection!” a moment of silence follow his words “but I cannot love you the way you love me, it would be not fair on you” Celestia was about to speak but he carried on.
“You are immortal, Celestia, I am not, look at me, Im young and strong but in 30 years I will be old and weak and I will die because of it” he took her right hoof between his forehoofs and kissed it “ but you, you will remain young, beautiful and strong, if I agree to love you then your pain caused by my passing will be great to you, so great it might even kill you! And if you were to die because of me I would never forgive myself, never, please understand Celestia and please, forgive me” he let go of her hoof and once again looked straight to the ground.
None of them said anything for more than 10 minutes, they just stood there in the gardens of the old castle and then Celestia took a deep breath and simply said.
“I understand”

“Are you sure?”
“Yes, everything is ready Twilight”
“Ok then, remember to clean the library while Im gone, NO PARTIES, and don’t eat all your gems” Twilight said to her little dragon assistant she had to made sure everything was in order before leaving to Canterlot by the personal summoning of princess Celestia herself.
“geez, I know Twilight, everything will be in one piece, clean and safe while you are gone!” the purple dragon said a little annoyed “Im your number one assistant I thought you had more faith in me”
“oh don’t be like that Spike” she nuzzled him a little “you know I do, it’s just I don’t like leaving you alone”
“Thanks Twilight, you know when the letter arrived I thought you were going to freak out hehe”
“ha-ha Spike, very funny” there was a knock at the door “ well that must be my carriage good bye Spike, and remember NO
PARTIES!” she said opening the door of the library.
“Alright! Alright! Yeah good bye and safe trip Twilight” the door closed, Spike went to the nearby window and saw Twilight take flight on a royal carriage, then smiled “Hit it Peewee”
“Chrip*” was the baby phoenix answer before jumping on a little red button behind the troyan horse head, the twin bookshelf raised in the air revealing behind it a giant plasma TV and many game consoles.
“Purple Avenger here, come in NightKiller, over” he called through a small radio
“NightKiller here Purple Avenger, what is the situation?, over” asked a female voice via radio
“Bookworm is gone, I repeat, Bookworm is gone, over”
“Roger that Purple Avenger, NightKiller out” five seconds later, somepony burst through the main entrance of the library
“THOU SHALL GET THOU FLANK KICKED BY OUR ROYAL HOOF” the princess of the night shouted using the oh so infamous royal Canterlot voice, Spike could do one thing and one thing only.
“Bring it princess”

“I cannot Celestia, I love you and you know that full well, but it simply cannot be”
“WHY? I don’t care how you look like nor what everypony else thinks!! I LOVE YOU DISCORD! AND YOU DARE TO TELL
ME YOU CANNOT LOVE ME BACK???? AFTER ALL----after all we have gone through?”
“…………………yes”
“BUT WHY?” Celestia burst into tears not measuring the volume of her voice.
“It’s not you Celestia, never you, it’s me” he flew near her and caressed her face with both lion paw and griffon claw “my powers are driving me insane Celestia” Celestia looked up to him with disbelief and fear.
“Yes, it’s true, that’s why I was gone for 2 years, I was searching for an answer as to why……..I am becoming crazier each passing day, it’s the nature of my powers” he closed the distance between their faces and kissed her gently on her lips, both of them closed their eyes enjoying that sweet moment .
“Let me walk the same path as you then” Celestia said once the kiss ended.
“NO!!! I WILL NOT LET YOU DO THAT! “Discord shock her angrily looking at her face “……….you can’t Celestia, this is my path, not yours because if I……..when I lose my mind you and Luna must stop me!, If……if you truly love me Celestia then when the day comes, use the elements against me”
Celestia gasped in horror “I won’t us!---“
“You will, for me, and don’t try to fool yourself telling that it might never happen, because it will, even now my mind is playing tricks to me and I can hear the whisper of chaos, it won’t be long and it cannot be stopped, promise me, promise that you WILL use the elements against me……………and also move forward, don’t cling to me”
There was a silence so thick and heavy between the two of them that one could hear their heartbeats clearly.
“I……I…….I promise, for you Discord, I will do anything to help you, I Love you”
“ I love you too, Tia” and with that they kissed again.
Five years after that Discord became the crazy monster he was now today, at first Celestia refused to use the elements against her old lover and best friend, but the pain on her subjects and the desperation of every living creature was greater than her former feelings and finally used the elements against Discord.
“Maybe all will be alright” she thought as the rainbow emerged from between the elements, her sister and herself “Maybe the elements will cure him from his madness and he will be back to normal again!” she wished “Then we can be together” she implored to the gods above her themselves “And we will live in love forever and happy” she begged one second before the rainbow of the elements were about to hit Discord with all their magical might “All will be alright!” she smiled full with hope.
And of course destiny had decided to bite on her flank, hard.

“I do wonder why does the princess needs to see me immediately, maybe it’s about another threat against Canterlot or maybe Discord is free again, but that wouldn’t make sense OR maybe----nononono! Remember Twilight, breathe “Not everything has to be an equivalent of doom without proper evidence” yes, breathe” one deep mouth full of oxygen and she was fine free from her pre-chaotic self, “there we go, maybe the princess just want to review a lesson or two, maybe apply me an exam or simply have some tea” Twilight smiled at herself for maintaining her self control so well, it had to be done for the previous times that, well, the chaos she could cause over nothing actually could give Discord a run for his money.
Arriving at the castle she was taken right away to the royal chambers of princess Celestia, two armored Pegasus guards took stance on each side of the entrance, the doors opened before her and a sweet yet commanding “Come in” was all she needed to enter, once inside the same sweet and commanding voice said “Leave us” a little hesitant at first both guards obeyed the order given by the princess of the sun.
The princess of the sun was standing near her balcony with a serious look on her face.
“This is it my beautiful Twilight Sparkle”

“You are my princess, my mentor and a mother to me Celestia” an old looking pony said in a serious yet sad voice “your duty is with your subjects and mine to my studies, nothing more and nothing less, there is no room for romance in our lives”
“Is that your final answer Star Wirl?”
“Sadly yes my princess, Im sorry but I cannot love you, not more than I already love you, as a mother and a teacher” a moment of silence and a little sigh from Star Wirl later he continued “I hope you understand”
“I do understand………..I do”

“I love you princess Celestia, but ……..not that way, I idolize you and I kiss the very ground you walk upon because you are perfect in every way, please do not destroy my image of you with that selfish petition for my heart is with a stallion not another mare……not matter how magnificent you are…….Im……Im sorry” a light blue unicorn mare told Celestia, as always in a sad tone, the sad tone of rejection.
“I understand” this time she didn’t cry, no more, it was always the same, so instead of crying Celestia simply returned to her castle chambers alone and heartbroken once again.

“You are Immortal Im a mortal so I cant--------“
Celestia didn’t need to hear the rest, she knew what was coming next, she didn’t wanted to hear it at least not this time, she just turned back and flew to the sky, leaving an orange earth pony mare alone on her flower garden.
“I understand”

“You are the princess of the sun” said one voice
“I know”
“I cant love you back” said another
“I understand”
“I will die, you will live” said another
“I understand”
“My loyalty is to you, but my love and heart is for another pony” said yet another voice
“I won’t get in your way then”

“Do you have any idea as to why I have summoned you my faithful student?” Celestia asked, spinning around meeting Twilights gaze.
“A few ideas to be honest prince---“
“Celestia is fine Twilight”
“---Celestia, but truth be told Im really curious to find out why” Twilight kept the eye lock with Celestia for some second before talking again “ I- Is something wrong?”
“As a matter of fact, yes Twilight there is, but is not a threat against Canterlot or against my subjects, it’s something more…… personal” Celestia walked closer to Twilight and nuzzled her, Twilight of course returned the gesture.
“Twilight” Celestia said, whispering to her ear “Do you know what Love is?” and ended the nuzzling session.
“W-w-why would you ask that to me princ-erm, Celestia!” Twilight blushed and stepped back a little.
“Im just curious that’s all, is there something wrong with it?”
“N-no of course not! Is just that……Im afraid………I can’t answer that, I know it has to be related to a great sense of caring for another pony or being and a desire to be with him or her” was Twilight answer.
“Basically that is how love starts my faithful student, let me tell you a story” Celestia turned back again stepping into her balcony while Twilight followed her closely.
“Once upon a time a mare with the name of Sunny skies fell in love with a stallion named Red Sky, she had loved him so much and she knew he loved her back, so one day she confessed to him telling him how much she loved him and that she wanted to spend her life with him………but he rejected her, for you see, sunny skies was immortal” a little gasp from Twilight was heard as she made a pause.
“He told her that he loved her but that if he agreed to be with her then, when his tame came, she would be devastated and would die of sadness, she understood and accepted his rejection with a lot of pain in her heart and a shattered soul, for you see this was her first love…….but”
“But?” Twilight inquired now interested in the tale.
“But, he was right, several years later he died from old age, and the pain she felt was so great and deep it almost killed her, putting her in a great cage of depression and hate to life, but she was saved thanks to her sister Moon Gazer and her best friend Drocsid”
“Some years later, now healed from her depression, she gave love another chance, but the same happened, so she gave it a chance again……and again……………..and again, and the pain of being rejected was destroying her more with each new rejection, then something unexpected occurred, she fell in love with Drocsid, her best friend, not because he was immortal like her and her sister, no, she fell in love with him because he was the one who made her laugh after each rejection, made things look a little better and always showed support and faith on her” Celestia made a little pause and gazed at nothing.
“She confessed and he accepted her and later on became lovers, for ten wonderful years everything seemed perfect to her, but something terrible happened, he leaved for two years saying that he needed to find something, when he came back he told her that……he told her that he couldn’t love her anymore, this devastated Sunny skies as you can imagine, but there was a powerful reason behind it you see, his powers where destroying him bit by bit and soon he would change to something horrible and terrible, he made her sworn she would stop him when the time came and also………to find a new love” a single tear fell from her right eye, unnoticed by Twilight.
“So when the time came, even thought she refused to do it at first, Sunny skies and Moon Gazer fought against him, yet Sunny skies had hope, hope that everything would be alright again, hope that Drocsid would be cured and be returned to normal again, hope to love again freely, but cruel destiny denied her that, laughed on her face and mocked at her pleas of mercy, for Drocsid was turned into stone, meant to never be free again” by now Twilight was sitting on her haunches listening expectantly for the princess to continue. “Then she took leadership of a country alongside with her sister”
“It took her almost three hundred years to move forward and try to search for a new love, and she did fell in love again, this time with a recognized pony named Star Swirl” at this statement Twilight gasped in surprise “but he rejected her in a very forward way, with a seriousness only he could achieve, with this new rejection something inside of her changed, the sadness in her heart and soul found a new companion, hate”
“As time went on, she tried to find love in both stallions and mares, for you see love does not know time, gender, age or orientation, it’s just love, but every time love evaded her, she no longer cried and her sadness and hate grew more a more, but she held hope inside of her, hope to find love and every time it was denied to her, but her subjects loved her because she was their ruler, and that love was foolishly directed only to her and her sister was ignored and feared in some points, Sunny skies was so stupid and blinded by her own self pity and sorrow that she failed to see the pain on her sister’s heart and soon it took control of her”
“Wait a moment, this sound a little like……..oh” Twilight thought finally realizing this tale was not a simple tale but in reality was a story about the princess past, Celestia’s past!.
“Sunny skies was forced to fight against her own sister, forcing her to stop her rampage and put her on exile, consumed by grief and sorrow Sunny skies made a vow to never search for love again and to wait for her sister’s return” Twilight was looking at Celestia with wide eyes still shocked to hear all of this.
“Almost a whole millennia past and Sunny skies felt the day for her sister’s return was near, but she needed to find somepony capable of freeing her for she could not do it alone, ten years before the return of her sister she found a little purple unicorn filly, she had so much power and so much potential inside of her that Sunny skies knew this filly was the one she had been looking for, she took her under her wing as her personal student, teaching her everything she needed to know to control her power and free her sister from her torment”
“P-princess”
“But something happened, something Sunny skies did not predict or imagined, every time the little filly had a success Sunny was filled with pride, every time she failed Sunny was there to comfort her, every time she cried Sunny was there to kiss her tears away and as the little filly grew into a full mature mare Sunny realized, she had broken her vow”
“Celestia…..”Twilight said in a low tone not believing what she was hearing.
“Then her sister returned and as Sunny predicted her student did a wonderful job, cleansing her sister from those dark powers and returning Moon Gazer back to her, Sunny was beyond happiness and desired nothing more but her to come back and tell her student her feelings, but then, disaster occurred, her student wanted to stay with her new found friends, and even though it pained her heart she made it possible for her to stay with them, even though Sunny skies knew she was going to miss her”
“Princess please! S-say no more!” Twilight got up on four hooves looking at her teacher unblinkingly.
Celestia turned around revealing a little sad smile “And how could she not miss her magnificent, beautiful and perfect faithful student? How could she not miss the mare that had returned hope to her heart once again? How could she not desire for her student to be near her all the time as more than just her student?” Celestia was now almost face to face with Twilight, less than a meter separated from one another, Twilights eyes where big as plates, mouth agape and very confused, “How could I not fall in love with you, Twilight Sparkle?” Celestia said closing the distance between them little by little.
Twilight’s mind went overload, she could not think straight, she couldn’t move, she could hardly even breath!, and in this state of confusion she did the only thing she could think to, she gave a step back.
“T-Twilight?” Celestia’s voice was broken and sad, seeing her student back away from her advances.
“I…I have to get back to Ponyville” said Twilight while her mind was still working harder than ever before, trying to come up with a logical solution to this predicament.
There was a minute of pure silence in the room, even though Twilight said she had to go back to Ponyville she did not moved any further, Celestia´s head fell, concealing her face from Twilight. Celestia frowned and suddenly pulled her head up meeting Twilight´s eyes again.
“No! You can't leave." Celestia shouted angrily, hooves stomping against the ground, hard enough to crack the floor, and head tossing as she glared at her student. "I'm telling you that I love you, and you want to go back to Ponyville?"
The alicorn blinked, letting the tears that had begun to gather in her eyes to finally fall leaving a trace on her cheeks. "When is it my turn to be selfish for once? W-When can I ask for something and receive it?, I have always, always, waited for another chance, saying I understood and walked away when all I wanted to do was to hug them and never let go!” Celestia looked at Twilight then, eyes wide and filled with tears. Pleading the small mare to answer her questions.
"Do I not mean anything to you?" Celestia asked her, almost coldly but her voice was filled with sadness.
"Y-you're my mentor” Twilight finally answered, “My Princess… In the years I’ve spent under your wing I’ve come to love you like I love my own m-"
"Do not you DARE say your mother” She yelled. "I am not your mother!"
Twilight took a step back startled a little afraid from her teacher and Celestia's anger countenance turned stricken. "Do not fear me, Twilight." She whimpered, letting more tears to fall from her eyes. "I am a mare not unlike you, with wants and needs. A mare that loves and hopes. More than my own sun, I love you." She lowered her head and her body submissively. Her wings trembled, tucked in tight against her sides and she begged with her eyes that the mare before her show mercy.
"You are the reason it dawns each morning…It sets so that you may see the stars at night…All I ask is that you love me in return. Not as your ruler or your teacher. It is but a small price to pay, is it not?”
“B-but why me Princess?” Twilight´s voice was calm now as her brain finally stopped to listen to Celestia.
“Because you are all that I could ask for, my faithful Twilight, there is no unique or especial reason behind it, I fell in love with you the moment you smiled at me for the very first time, I know you Twilight, I know your virtues, your flaws, your obsessions, your habits, I know you very well, Im not infatuated or crushing you, I truly love you, for the very first time in more than a thousand years I have let love fill my heart again and to let me hope to finally, finally have somepony by my side no matter what and to let me be with him or her, not caring for who I am or the power I hold”
“Celestia I---“
“Before you say anything, I must confess something” Celestia took a deep breath to calm herself “when my niece Cadence came to me, announcing she was getting married I smiled at her happily, but in truth…I….I…..I wanted to kill her” Twilight gasped in both horror and surprise at this revelation
“I was so jealous, so angry, so devastate after all. How could she? A new born alicorn, not even 200 years old, find true love so easily and to be accepted by him even knowing she is immortal and has higher duties? How could she found love, when I had been denied from it for more time that I can remember? I thougth, I KNEW it was unfair”.
“I felt something dark inside of me, and I knew what it was, it was the nightmare, it filled me with thoughts not my own, and I almost gave in, but something pulled me back” Celestia looked at Twilight´s eyes lovingly. “It was you Twilight, my memories of you pulled me back from that terrible darkness and showed me the light again, right in that moment I realized I loved you more than anypony before”
“I ask you to love me, to give me a chance to let ME woo you and show you how true and strong my love is for you, just one chance “don’t……don’t deny me this chance, please” –she hoped- I ask you Twilight Sparkle, not as your ruler, your teacher or the sun goddess, just a mare to another, will you let me court you?”
Twilight gazed upon the eyes of Celestia, eyes that screamed for acceptance, for love, for a chance and a deep agony and sorrow deep inside of her “…………I have never, EVER, thought of you like that pri----Celestia, I always thought you were beautiful, graceful and the most intelligent pony there is, I also didn’t know you had such a sad past” she walked closer to Celestia, smiling a little.
“I do not know how to feel about all of this, but I know something, I always thought friendship was just a waste of time and having friends was useless, excluding Spike and Shining, but after I felt the magic of friendship, no, the love of friendship I realized how wrong I was and how wonderful it felt” she paused a moment nuzzling a little on Celestia’s neck.
“After that I realized one can’t live without love, we all need love to survive, I have the love of friendship but I also want somepony to love me in that very especial way romantic relationships are” Twilight stopped her nuzzling to see Celestia’s eyes, full hit hope but also fear.
“So, to answer your question Celestia, I’ll say, yes, I accept your offer, but only on 2 conditions”
“Which are?” Celestia asked almost shouting in excitement.
“The first is that you must let me…..try to love you back in the very same way you say to love me”
“I don’t say, I do love you Twilight”
Twilight smiled as a cute blush crept to her face “and the second is that, for whatever reason things don’t work out we can still have our old relationship, are this conditions agreeable, Celestia?”
“of course they are my faithful Twilight” she leaned forward a little on her “of course they are and I promise” a little more "you won´t regret your decision" a bit more "never" she closed her eyes.
“C-celestia what are yo---???”
Twilight couldn’t finish her sentence as Celestia’s sweet lips touched hers; Twilight closed her eyes after some seconds and began to return the kiss her former mentor gave her “It feels…….nice, really nice”. Celestia’s horn glowed, beginning to set the sun on their backs while she and her former protégé were sharing a sweet, beautiful and perfect first kiss.

“That was most enjoyable Spike, we thank thee for this magnificent evening” Luna said as she was getting ready to bring forth the moon outside the library, while Peewee and Spike were sitting on the floor near the entrance smiling at her.
“It was no problem princ—I mean Luna!. It’s the first time somepony actually beats me in videogames, Snails and Snips are pretty bad at it, Featherweight can barely hold the controllers and Pipsqueak is way too young for this games”
“Indeed he is, anyways we have to go now there is a celebration for the meteor shower tonight in Las Pegasus we—erm, I must attend to it, thank you again, Spike” she leaned forward a bit to kiss Spike on his right cheek, he blushed and held his cheek in amusement, and also gave a little kiss to Peewee who only *chipered* happily “ I look forward to our next match, good bye” then she took off to the sky.
“IT’S A DATE!” Spike shouted back at her, as a big smile was attached to his face.
