THE INVESTIGATION
It was late in the evening, as a unicorn stallion named Moonshroud made his way to the specially-built interrogation room in the castle. As Moonshroud made his way to the interrogation room, he reflected back on the reason for this journey. Two weeks ago, during the wedding of Princess Mi Amore Cadenza and the Captain of the Royal Guard, Shining Armor, Queen Chrysalis and her changeling army attacked Canterlot. Fortunately for everypony, the changelings attack were repelled and the safety of Equestria was restored.
However, Her Highness, Princess Celestia has ordered an immediate investigation on how the changeling Queen was able to infiltrate Canterlot despite the security measures headed by the Royal Guards. Moonshroud was entrusted with the task of heading a team to investigate this mystery.
After countless interviews, meticulous investigation and sleepless nights, Moonshroud and his team are finally able to piece the puzzle together. Now Moonshroud is going to meet the one pony that could be holding the key to solving this mystery.
As Moonshroud entered the interrogation room, he came face to face with the unicorn mare named Greenvine, Assistant Majordomo to Her Highness, Princess Celestia. Moonshroud has read the file on her. Born in Canterlot, accepted into Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and worked her way up to her current position of Assistant Majordomo.
"Greetings," said Moonshroud. "My name is Moonshroud. Chief Special Investigator to Her Grand Royal Highness, Princess Celestia."
"I like to know why am I being arrested, sir," said Greenvine.
"As you are well aware, Her Highness has ordered an investigation into the recent attack on Canterlot by the changelings," said Moonshroud. "Me and my team has been thorough with the investigation and we have only one conclusion. You, Greenvine, have assisted the changeling queen."
"That's a preposterous accusation," Greenvine protested.
"We've got enough evidence and eyewitnesses' testimonials to charge you with treason," said Moonshroud. "We even interviewed Her Highness, Princess Cadence, herself. You might as well come clean right now."
Greenvine did not respond.
"Me and my team can reconstruct what you did with the evidence we have," said Moonshroud. "What I want to know is why did you help the changeling queen? Why did you betray Her Highness, Princess Celestia?"
"I will never betray Her Highness," said Greenvine.
"Then why did you help the changeling queen?" Moonshroud demanded.
"If you want answers, here it is," said Greenvine. "I wanted to get even with one pony. And only one pony."
"Who?" Moonshroud asked. "Her Highness?"
"No!" said Greenvine. "Her protégé, Twilight Sparkle."
Moonshroud was silent for a moment. He knew who Twilight Sparkle was. She was the younger sister of the Captain of the Royal Guard. After an incident during her entrance exam at Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns years ago, she was made Her Highness protégé. It was the same school that the mare standing in front of him had enrolled in. Then it dawned on Moonshroud. Could this be a case of envy?
"Tell me," said Moonshroud.
Greenvine was hesitant for a while and then she finally said, "It began years ago when I enrolled into Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. All I wanted was to be closer to Her Highness but the only person that gets all of Her Highness' attention is Twilight Sparkle. All the work I put into my studies were cast aside in favor of Twilight Sparkle's. Twilight Sparkle doesn't get along well with the other students but for some reason she was very close to Her Highness. Years later, I attained the position of Assistant Majordomo in Her Highness' castle. Every day, I try my best to please Her Highness but she hardly noticed me. One day, I finally got the chance to do something important for Her Highness. I was put in charge of arranging the annual Grand Galloping Gala in Canterlot. I spend weeks making sure that the Gala had the best food, the best refreshments, the best musicians, the best entertainers and the best decorations which I really believe would exceed Her Highness' expectations."
"I was at the Gala," said Moonshroud. "Things didn't went according to your plan."
"It did went according to plan," said Greenvine. "Until Twilight Sparkle and her friends came and ruined everything. I watched as my hard work fall apart. After order was restored at the Gala, I was left to clean up the mess when I saw that Her Highness leaving the castle. I followed Her Highness to Pony Joe's donut shop where Twilight Sparkle and her friends were. I was expecting her to punish them for ruining the Gala. Instead, she actually praised them for what they did!"
"And you weren't happy about it," said Moonshroud.
"Of course not!" said Greenvine. "I swore that night that I will make Twilight Sparkle pay for it!"
"And the changeling queen offered you the chance for revenge," said Moonshroud. "Didn't she?"
"We made a deal and it is that I will help her masquerade as Princess Cadence so that she can get close to Shining Armor, Twilight Sparkle's beloved brother," said Greenvine. "In exchange, she will help me get revenge on Twilight Sparkle."
"How did you help her?" Moonshroud asked.
"As Assistant Majordomo, I know the layout of the entire castle and the security measures the Royal Guards have in place," said Greenvine. "I helped her bypass all the security measures and led her to Princess Cadence. It was nothing personal but we needed the princess out of the way."
"And how did the queen help you get your revenge?" asked Moonshroud.
"She left subtle clues for Twilight Sparkle to get suspicious enough to confront her at the wedding rehearsal," said Greenvine. "And me, hiding in the background, watched with satisfaction as her own brother, her friends and Her Highness turned against her. And Queen Chrysalis finished the job by sending her to the caves beneath Canterlot."
"Is getting your revenge worth having the changelings dominate the whole of Equestria?" Moonshroud asked.
"The deal is that she will help me get revenge on Twilight Sparkle and she can have Shining Armor as her food source," said Greenvine. "Unfortunately, she renege the deal and had her changelings invade Canterlot. And you, Moonshroud, know the rest of the story."
"You may not have intentionally betray Her Highness, Princess Celestia," said Moonshroud. "But you did betray Princess Cadence and endanger the safety of everypony in Equestria."
Moonshroud motioned to the guards inside the room and said, "Take her to the dungeon and keep her there until further notice."
"While you are there," said Moonshroud to Greenvine. "I suggest you reflect on your actions. The penalty for treason is harsh indeed."
As the guards escorted Greenvine out of the interrogation room, a single tear rolled down the mare's cheek and Greenvine says, "All I wanted was for Her Highness to look upon me and smile. Just for once."
