Tough Night Had By All

Binary sat across from her dashing business partner to be at the fanciest table in the lavish surroundings of the Eclipse club. She wore an astounding black dress that sparkled even in the dimmest of light. Max gazed at her with longing eyes, clearly struggling to keep things professional.

“So you say you're going to buy my amazing smart trays and sign me on for a billion bit contract, you flatter me Mr. Production” Binary said sophisticatedly before taking a sip of champagne from one of those super fancy glasses you see in the movies, you know the ones with the skinny middle and then get big at the...

“Oh yes, most assuredly. The moment I laid eyes upon it I had to have it” Max said with an eager look of anticipation “This is going to be bigger than those Celstia bobble heads they had.,.,..!!%$# coursssse they had thooooseee I remember when I was....?

“Well, I always knew I'd change the world someday, I just never thought it would be so soon, or so easy” Binary said smugly before playfully tapping Max's hoof, sending a shiver up the stallions spine.

“Three cheers for Ms. Binary!” a finely dressed waiter called to the rest of the club whom all seemed to be Binary's old classmates for whatever R!2easiiiin......!^&?

The club began to erupt in a thunderous roar of cheers.

“Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hop hip Binary hop bop hip zip Binary (dolphin noise) Binary!”

Binary awoke and quickly glanced around to find herself still in her room and not super rich or popular. She drew her covers over her mouth as she looked up to see Chip floating in the air, glaring down at her.

“Was I talking in my sleep?” she asked.

Chip remained silent. Her pillow was engulfed in Chip's aura then lifted into the air as he began to fluf fit up.

“Sorry. You know you can just turn off you audio receptors if I start to bother you” Chip remained silent. He ceased his fluffing and held the pillow above Binary's head “Chip... did I say something bad in my sleep?” she asked as a growing look of worry crossed her face.

“No... just sit back and let the pillow do what it was made for” he said as his body flicked to a haunting orange image.

Binary tried to scream but was cut off as the pillow was forced down into her face as dolphins cackled in the distance.

Binary let out a scream as she shot up out of her bed. She looked in every direction but her poor vision showed her nothing but terrifying blurry blocks of blue.

“Chip!” she screamed as she jumped out of the bed and ran for the doorway, luckily being already open. She slid across the hallway and slammed into the opposite door. Her ears flicked up as she heard the sound of objects crashing around in the other room. Without a second thought she flung the door open and dived inside and landed an inch away from Chip.

“Um... this isn't entirely what it seems to be... but it might be” Chip said like a parent caught by a child.

“I knew it, you were gonna let me get famous in a dream and then, then you were gonna get a bunch of dolphins and smother me while the dolphins record it and then show it to all their sick twisted dolphin friends and they'd make you their leader or... something! I knew this day would... come, and...” Binary stopped her ranting and took a few quick breaths “Chip... what are you doing in here?”

Chip stared back at Binary, matching her blank expression.

“Uhh... Binary is it okay to lie to somepony if they physically couldn't tell if you were lying?” he asked.

“...Sure, I guess as long as its not a bid deal” she replied “Why would you ask something like that?”

“This is still part of the dream” he replied “Remember the evil dolphins?”

“I do remember the dolphins...” she replied “I'm very afraid of dolphins now”

“Isn't that too bad” Chip said before playing a recording of a dolphin cackle “You go back to sleep and just try to forget the dolphins... and everything else”

“Oookay” she said as she turned and made her way back to the hallway “It'd be a shame to be scared of dolphins, they're so cute”

“Yes, that's what's important here” he said before softly closing the door behind her.

Chip let out a sigh of relief. He then heard a thud from the hallway followed by an annoyed grunt.

“D'oh” muttered Binary.

Chip tried to ignore the sound of her hooves clicking against the floor but the continuous and inconsistent bumping sound quickly grew irritating. He let out a sigh as he vanished into the floor.

Binary caught herself before she took a step off of the staircase.

“Okay, this time” she whispered to herself as she squinted. She took slow steps towards the bathroom. As she reached for the doorway Chip's aura took her hoof and lightly tugged her back towards her room. Once inside she found her bed with ease and crawled back under the covers.

“Thanks Chip” she said through a yawn “Could you play me that old lullaby?” the soft tune began to play throughout the room. Binary snuggled down into her pillow as Chip tucked her in tighter “If I can have things this good in a dream just imagine what real life's like for that fancy Max guy” she said as she drifted off to sleep where no dolphins could hurt her.

Max laid in the middle of a large bed in an apartment too big for one pony filled with half his possessions the other half residing in another home he wouldn't have to pay for anymore in the next few months. His wide eyes twitched as the infernal sounds from the apartment above kept him awake for the third night in a row. He could stand it before when he wasn't alone but now he heard every step, bump and squeak that they made.

“Well... this is pointless” he said as he put his glasses on and looked at the clock on the wall “1 am. Looks like I'm sleeping through lunch again. Guess it's a pretty easy day tomorrow anyway; paper work, lay off 3 guys, paper work, talk to that inventor and then come home... she kind of struck me as the annoying type though. But it's okay...” he said as he stretched his wings out and placed his front legs behind his head “I've gotta have a win eventually”
