Chapter 34
Feelings To Save
*Location: Relic Hunter HQ, Household, Nightfall*
The light of day faded before Excalibur’s eyes, the weight of the sun falling beating down on him till the last ray. He leaned on the fence on the balcony as he gazed at the sun once more, memories still vivid and haunting as he could remember.
He felt a chill run up his bare arm as he crossed his arms to give him any kind of comfort, but it did nothing to hide his pain, the gut wrenching pain that lingered in his mind and soul. It was putrid, making him feel sick.
How many? How many have fallen because of his arrogance? His dumb luck?
“It’s all my fault… I’m no Prime, nothing more than a bad luck charm,” Excalibur spoke softly, his head filling with the images of all those he had killed, all because he was too weak, or too slow to prevent it
Then his memories flooded with the deaths of his closest friends.
“Trinity…”
“Volt…”
“N-Nekros…” Excalibur spoke hesitantly as he felt one memory resurface, to which he tried not to dwell on
It kept clouding his mind, worse than any of his memories as he put a hand over his face as he gritted his teeth in frustration. The images of death and despair rang in his head like an endless swarm, eating away at his mind.
“How many more need to die until you’re satisfied with my failures?” Excalibur mumbled as he looked to the moon that slowly rose into the night, casting a blue glow from its surface
“A blue moon… never thought I would ever see one,” Came a voice from beside Excalibur, he turned and saw Skyler leaning over the railing with him
“Yeah… even over all the years ive lived, I’ve never seen one so… beautiful,” Excalibur added as he stared at its captivating glow with a small smile
“So why, why do you keep blaming yourself?” Skyler asked suddenly as Excalibur looked at her, and saw the sad look she wore, nothing but pity and remorse displayed itself to him
“Because it is my fault-” Excalibur began but was cut off by Skyler punching the railing
“No. Its. Not.” She said firmly as she quickly continued. “We all saw what happened, and none of us blame you, we directed all are anger at the Orokin and Stalker, not you,”
“I killed them!!!” Excalibur yelled in anger, his eyes showing glaring daggers at Skyler as she stared at him with surprise. “I killed Prime, because of my arrogance, I let Stalker murder him!”
“Trinity, died because I was too slow!”
“Volt, died because I was too stubborn to stick with them!”
“Nekros… he died and I watched him, I could have saved him…” Excalibur chocked up but still looked furious with himself
“I could have saved them all!!!” Excalibur yelled as he smashed the wooden post in anger as he felt his body drain of anger, only sadness and sorrow remaining. “I let them down…”
“Excalibur… think about all that you ‘have’ done, you saved all of these Tenno, they trust you so much, they care about you,” Skyler began as she turned him to face her
“You didn’t turn your back on any of them, no matter how much guilt and pain you carried, you kept pushing forward, you saved countless people from the Grineer, the Corpus, the Stalker, and not once did you leave any of them behind.” Skyler pointed out with a smile
“I know you made mistakes, but you can’t let that fear control you, not even one of us would want you to die… they wouldn’t…. Valkyr wouldn’t…. I wouldn’t…” Skyler finished as Excalibur stared right at her crystal blue eyes
He knew it would never end, the pain of all those he failed, those he could have saved. But… he wasn’t going to stop trying to do better… nothing could make up for the blood on his hands… but if could die, knowing he brought some good into this world… then it would be enough for him.
“Sky… I will never stop doubting myself… I can’t, because if I did, it would only tarnish those I failed before.” Excalibur answered but smiled warmly as he continued. “But I will not let it stop me from doing what’s right, that I can make up for,”
I promise, I will not stop trying, through the pain, and the heartache, because I’ll always remember why I kept going…” Excalibur spoke strongly as Skyler looked at him with confusion
“What-” she tried to ask, but her words became an unimaginable mess as her mind slowed, to which all she could do was close her eyes as Excalibur and Skyler deepened their kiss, holding each other under the blue light that illuminated the world around them
After nearly a minute, they parted, both red in the face as they both smiled at each other. Then Skyler laughed.
“Now that’s one of the reason I love you so much,” Skyler joked as Excalibur smirked in pride
“And the other?” he asked as he saw the seductive look on her face, she face still burning bright
“Oh, well…I guess you’ll have to find out!” She teased as she looked at the small metal podium. “Hey, Ordis?”
Next, a small holographic appea(Cube)red, hovering on the tripod.
“Yes, Miss Locks?” Ordis asked as she smirked
“When did I install that?” Excalibur asked but they ignored him
“What’s the likelihood of anyone coming up here, just wondering?” Skyler asked, Excalibur still not following as he stared blankly at the two
“Seriously! When did I install that!?” Excalibur shouted but the two still ignored him
“Chances are extremely low, as they are trying to figure out where they got a shark eating a cheeseburger from- ITS LEAVING A GORY MESS-,” Ordis explained as she smiled
“Good to know!” Then she turned to look at Excalibur one more time. “Down the hall, to the left, I’ll be waiting~” She sung as she walked away
“Wait, what does…oh. Ooooooh,” Excalibur tried to ask Ordis but then his mind just… stopped making words work, then he shook his head clear before looking at Ordis. “Hey, Ordis?”
“Yes, Operator?” Ordis asked but Excalibur smiled
“Just call me by my name, Ordis, I’m fine with it,” Excalibur added
“Oh, ok, what might you require, Excalibur?” He asked as Excalibur smiled
“Send a message to, Lotus, tell her to call me tomorrow. I want to discuss something that might just help us all,” Excalibur answered as Ordis then ‘hummed’ in thought
“What might be so important, Excalibur?” Ordis asked as Excalibur slowly walked away
“Just tell her, I’m done chasing shadows. She’ll know.” Excalibur answered as he walked away, feeling content with himself, because now, he was finally home. but before he left he glared at Ordis
"And quit going through my credits like they're going out of style! i'm not a charity!" Excalibur snapped as the Cephalon retorted
"Rhino thought that wiring me to the rest of the home would be more... effiecent," Ordis replied as Excalibur sighed and walked away
"I am so screwed..." Excalibur moaned, then his mini-self added. "In more ways than one in a moment,"
"Kill me..."
