Heroines of Overwatch

by ThePegaKris

Sparkle Residence, Canterlot City

The next day, I had woken up from a satisfying sleep and rubbed my eyes. I still found D.Va asleep on the couch, which to be honest, I feel really bad about letting her sleep there instead of me. At the same time, it wouldn't be nice if I turned down her offer, either. Nonetheless, I don't feel tired anymore.

When I got up from the bed, I looked outside through the badly damaged city of Busan and it was still in poor shape. D.Va must've had a tough time trying to cope with the loss of her hometown. I have only known her for like a couple of hours in this world and yet she seems to already have a significant importance in my life.

"Good morning Sunset!" as Tracer came out of the elevator. She was still in her crazy outfit. "Did you sleep well last night?"

"Yes, and I really appreciate D.Va for letting me sleep here last night! You and Winston as well!"

"No problem! So, before you leave, do you want to have some breakfast with us first?"

"Really? What do you have?"

"We have pancakes, eggs, and bacon. Sounds good enough for you?"

"I'll just have pancakes. I actually can't eat meat because...I am still a pony, technically."

"Ah, a fear of cannibalism."

"What?"

"Eh, I mean, nothing dear! C'mon, Winston's waiting for us downstairs."

"Should I wake up D.Va first, Tracer?"

"Hehe, the only breakfast she ever has is her so called Mountain Dew and Doritos! Somehow, she never gains or loses weight. You can leave her be for now, Sunset."

"Okay."

I can still at least go on without showering until later. Back at Canterlot High yesterday, I showered before school and I still smell pretty fresh. If I ask any of these guys to use their shower, then that's probably too much to ask.

I then got on the elevator with Tracer, who still is in a cheerful mood. It's a nice yet depressing view all the way up from this glass elevator.

"Going to Floor 2." The elevator said.

"What happened to all the civilians?"

"They have evacuated after the Omnic Crisis, thankfully. However, there are some parts of the world that are either with or against us, the heroes of Overwatch." Tracer explained.

"Did this city like you, Tracer?"

"Yes, but most importantly, they were looking up to D.Va. It's no surprise, really, since she was born here."

"How many more heroes of Overwatch are there?" I asked.

"A lot more. Over the years, Talon has always been a pain in our arses."

"That doesn't make sense. If you guys have strength in numbers, why can't you stop Talon?"

"They really are that strong. Reaper is obviously leading the charge and his accomplices are helping him to take over the latest mech technology in the world."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing from Tracer. Is this world really advanced and futuristic? If it is, it's definitely better than Equestria or my new home world. But who knew that technology could be so evil in the future?

"How exactly do you plan on dealing with Talon?"

"Patience, love. They might be planning their next move right now, so we have to do the same as well."

"Do they know about me?"

"Unfortunately, yes. One of Reaper's best sidekicks, Sombra, was able to hack into an old database back at an old Overwatch headquarters and discovered our activities involving us watching over you and your friends."

"Huh, that's not good. I think I may be able to help Overwatch, but like I said, I don't know about my friends."

"If they can't make it, that's perfectly fine, love. After all, you are the strongest girl that Winston and I have come across."

"I guess."

The elevator had finally stopped on the second floor. This room apparently looked like a big, fancy dining room with a chandelier on the ceiling.

"Ooh, the food's already on the table!" Tracer exclaimed. "Let's sit down, Sunset!"

"I'm coming!"

Plates of pancakes, eggs, and bacon were spread on the table. Tracer and I had ours set on the table, and there were two more plates as well. I'm assuming that one of them will be for Winston. I put aside the eggs and bacon, which I won't be eating.

"Mmm, this is so good!"

"The best pancakes out there, dear!" Tracer said. "These were made by our head chef, who's also a hero of Overwatch. Isn't that right, Torbjörn?"

"Aye, right you are, Tracer!"

When I put down my fork, I heard a man come out from the kitchen and upon inspecting him, he looked awfully short. He had some kind of mechanical claw on his left arm and a tattoo of gears on his right arm.
This guy also had some muscle tone behind his abundance of iron armor.

"Well hello there! Who are you, sweet lady?"

"Hi, I'm Sunset Shimmer! It's nice to meet you, sir!"

"I'm Torbjörn. I see that you love my Swedish pancakes! Not only that I can cook, but I also get people to see my excellent engineering!"

"We all do, chap!" Tracer added. "You never disappoint with both your combat and cooking!"

"Ahaha, you got that right!"

I continued to indulge myself in his delicious pancakes. Coming out of the elevator this time was Winston, who looked like he was about to faint. He then took a seat with us at the table and began eating as well.

"What's wrong, big guy?" Tracer asked.

"I spent hours last night with Athena trying to further enhance my tesla cannon. It was successful, but I got exhausted in the process and couldn't get enough sleep afterwards.

"So, does that mean you didn't get to dream about peanut butter and bananas?" Tracer added.

"Maybe." as Winston fixed his glasses.

"Hehe, excuse me." I burped. "Well, I guess I'll be on my way back to my friends, then!"

"Not so fast, Sunset!" Tracer giggled. "We haven't even discussed the plan yet!"

"But, I thought that all you wanted me to do was join you guys and try to get my friends on board, too."

"There's more to it than that." Winston said. "You already have the cellular device, which will allow you to communicate with us anywhere, but we have to provide you with more equipment."

"Like what?"

"Take this patch, love." Tracer said. "If anyone asks, you let them know that you're a part of the best heroes ever! Also, here's a few more for your friends!"

"This is all I get? I mean, it's nice that you're giving this to me, but I don't think there's a lot of significance in these patches."

"I see that you have a backpack right there, lady!" Torbjörn examined. "In that case, feel free to take this token of gratitude and conceal it with all your life!"

"Wait, you can't be serious. I can't use this in public! I'm going to get arrested! What does this even say on here?"

Caduceus Blaster

"You're giving me an actual gun, Torbjörn? First off, I can't shoot anything because I'm not professionally trained. Secondly, I'm not allowed to use one of these."

"We will put you through training, Sunset, and this is a very important cause." Torbjörn said.

"The world is counting on us, and we must defeat Talon before they start up an Omnic Crisis of their own!" Winston cried.

"Were they responsible for the one you mentioned earlier?"

"No, but they have planned on numerous occasions to try and steal the latest mech technology in the entire world, which will cause another Omnic Crisis." Tracer said. "We really need your help, which will be much appreciated."

"Will I...die?"

"No." Winston replied.

Saving the world using magic is common for me, but I need to shoot some people now to do it? I thought to myself. I'm not the vengeful girl that I was when I first attended Canterlot High, and I didn't even shoot a student back then. I guess I that for the time being, I should use this gun for a real emergency.

"I never thought I'd say this, but...I'm in."

"Well then, it's settled!" as Tracer clapped her hands.

"Welcome to Overwatch, Sunset Shimmer!" Winston said.

"Welcome aboard!" Torbjörn joined in.

"I'm sure it's going to be nice working together with you all, too! May I return to my friends now?"

"Of course, I'll lead you back to the portal." Tracer said. "It's obviously not too far from here, so join up on me outside if you've finished your breakfast."

"I already have."

"Okay, let's go!"

"You two take care of yourselves." Winston acknowledged.

"We will." Tracer replied.

"I'll be sure to come back safely."

As Tracer and I got on the elevator, we waved to the other heroes and went downstairs to street level. The main lobby looked pretty secret enough to install a security system, but seeing how these guys roll, they probably have trained themselves to handle any threat. I still can't believe that I now have my first gun, though.

When we got outside, I was ready to equip it in case Talon shows up, but I figured that this won't be enough. What shocked me the most was seeing decapitated skulls on the ground. For one thing, Fluttershy would probably have to run to the bathroom if she was with me right now.

"This alleyway is where the portal back to your world will be." Tracer pointed out.

"So yesterday, I just came out of a brick wall?"

"The distinct look of the portal can help you figure out where to go, dear. In case you run into trouble or are unable to defend yourself and your friends, then go ahead and give us a ring. Winston and I got you covered!"

"But who's going to keep an eye on your base?"

"Torbjörn and D.Va can handle it. Since it's highly impossible that they'll be taken down, Athena is at their disposal and can call our other heroes to the rescue."

"Well, I'll keep that in mind. I know that we've only known each other for a few hours, but you and your allies like good friends to me already!"

"I feel the same way, too!" Tracer said. "I hope you stay safe once you go back in and out of your world! Remember, we'll be watching over you."

"Got it!"

After everything that's been settled, it was finally time to go back home. I went through the portal knowing that I have a new task at hand. With the help of my friends, I'm positive that we can help Overwatch defeat Talon. However, I don't know how much of the information that I've gathered they can take in. We defeated Gloriosa a while ago, but I think we spent more time trying to fix Camp Everfree, rather than relaxing at it.
If only Pinkie Pie wasn't so hyper...

When I came out, I ended back at Canterlot High, which is still closed since today was Sunday. There was no sign of my friends anywhere, and not even Rainbow Dash was out on the field practicing with the field.
The only one I remembered talking to before I left was Twilight, who had somethings to do with her brother, Shining Armor.

Please pick up! I thought to myself. It was easier for me to distinguish between my two cellphones because one of them had the Overwatch symbol on it and the other one had my cutie mark.

"Hello?"

"Twilight, it's me, Sunset!"

"Hey, it's so good to hear from you again! The rest of us were so worried about you!"

"What do you mean by that?"

"Did you receive any of our text messages or phone calls?"

"No, why?"

"Because Rarity was having a sleepover with the other girls in Manehattan, and they wanted you to come."

I put Twilight on hold for a moment and checked that I really did have missed calls and text messages. "Wow, I didn't expect that!"

"Was your phone out of charge or something, Sunset?"

"No. Are you home right now, Twilight? I need to explain something very important to you and the others."

"Yes, I'm home alone actually. You can tell me what you have to say over the phone, you know?"

"It's a very long story."

"Well, alright then. I'll tell the others to come over to my house, too."

"Okay, I'm on my way!"

"Bye!" as we both hanged up.

I ran across the street and happened to catch the bus going downtown where Twilight lived. She doesn't live too far from school, but I didn't want to be wasting my breath running to her house.

Ring ring ring. My phone from Overwatch was actually ringing.

"Hello?"

"Hello Sunset, this is Winston!"

"Oh hey! Wait, where's Tracer? I thought she told me that I have to call whenever I'm in trouble."

"She apparently took a break by playing video games with D.Va, so I'm in charge of communications for now. We just wanted to make sure everything's alright with you."

"Everything's fine, Winston. I'm just on my way to my friend, Twilight, to tell her about everything."

"Good, and remember, shoot anything that looks out of the ordinary."

"Why is that?"

"Science! Umm, not really. Have a nice day!"

Hearing that made me want to facepalm so hard. I completely disregarded what Winston just said, except for the part where I have to shoot anything that looks out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, I finally reached Twilight's home, so I got off the bus.

I looked through the front window to see if anyone was there and Twilight was on her couch watching TV. She looked to be in a pretty relaxing position while wearing pajamas. I then knocked on the door to call her and saw her coming.

"Hi Sunset!" as she gave me a big hug.

"Hi Twilight! May I come in?"

"Of course!"

"Thanks!" I closed the door behind me. "Are the other girls coming?"

"Yes, they're almost here. You may sit down with me on the couch, if you like."

"Gladly. So, what happened last night with you and your brother?"

"He tried to make silly jokes at the dinner table around myself, our parents, and Dean Cadance. I was the only one who didn't laugh, surprisingly, because...they were really that horrible."

"Oh, darn it!"

"You dropped your phone, Sunset. I don't remember it being that big, though."

"Neither have I."

The doorbell suddenly rang and I volunteered to answer the door. Outside were all of our friends."

"Hey girls!"

"SUNSET!" They replied as they all squeezed me tightly.

"Aww shucks, where have ya been, sugarcube?" Applejack asked.

"Did you get my calls and messages?" Rarity asked.

"Did you party without us?" Pinkie butted heads with them.

"One at a time, girls! Twilight and I have been expecting you, so you may come in."

We were all here and happy to see each other, except for Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. They looked sad instead.

"Care to explain, you two?" Rarity minded.

"I'll start off." Fluttershy answered. "Dashie and I apologized to each other before we got here, but I still feel really bad about what I did last night. Since you weren't calling back, Sunset, I got a bit tired and angry, so I left Manehattan and kind of snapped at Rainbow Dash."

"I was really sorry for snapping at Fluttershy, too. I even called her a coward while trying to find her way home, which was totally wrong of me to do."

"If you two are still friends, then I need to see you make up right now."

"Hug?" Fluttershy begged.

"I wouldn't want to upset my childhood friend, so come here!" Rainbow grabbed her and they both patted their backs while hugging.

"Well, I'm glad that's settled!" I wiped off my sweat.

"So, what's the scoop, Sunset?" Pinkie questioned.

"Girls... Are you ready to save the world once again?"

"You mean the day, right?" Rainbow corrected.

"No, I'm serious. We're going to become even bigger heroes!"

"What exactly are ya talking about, Sunset?" A.J. asked.

"Remember that glowing blue thing from the ceiling at the mall that I was talking about? It turned out to be an actual girl!"

"Really?" Fluttershy gasped. "How did you catch her?"

"After we left the mall last night, I was going home and happened to have come across her at the statue last night. She actually went through the portal, so I had to follow her in order to make sure Princess Twilight and the rest of Equestria didn't get harmed."

"Then what happened?" Rarity continued.

"I actually didn't end up in Equestria, it was a completely different world. This girl's name is Lena Oxton, but she wanted me to refer to her as 'Tracer.' She actually saved me from the evil that we have to stop in that world, who is part of an evil organization named Talon."

"I'm already lost, but oh well!" Pinkie shrugged.

"Does this girl actually run as fast as I could, Sunset?" Rainbow wondered.

"Yes, but not like any other athlete I've seen. She was teleporting and dashing oddly all over the place! Incredible I tell you!"

"Interesting." Twilight nodded. "Go on."

"Tracer is part of a team of heroes under the name of Overwatch. They've been watching over me since I first came into this world, which I thought was creepy at first, but I heard about their current situation to save their world from Talon."

"Woah!" The rest of us covered our mouths.

"Yeah. To get to the point, I was wondering if you can help me with Overwatch in stopping Talon once and for all. I've been told that it's not going to be easy."

"Haha, that slaps me on the knee!" Rarity laughed. "Sunset, we could just pony-up and kick this organization's butt in a snap! What could be so difficult about that?"

"The leader of Talon, Reaper, and his two main helpers don't use magic as much as we do."

"What do they use?" Twilight asked.

"Guns."
