Chapter 7

Fluttershy exited the hospital, feeling thoroughly overwhelmed. Guilt tugged at her. She had not been able to make a proper visit.

Twilight and Pinkie just looked so angry...perhaps I should have stayed to make sure they turned out alright?

But it was too late to head back now. Fluttershy paused. Was it?
She stayed paused, a feeling of shame sinking through her heart. She knew was no stranger to death. Animals have short lives, and the animals Fluttershy cared for were no exception.

But throughout all that, her pony friends had remained a constant, and Rainbow Dash had been no exception.
But now…

Fluttershy shuddered. Rainbow was always taking risks...her and her crazy stunts had gotten her into more close scrapes than Fluttershy could count. Ironic that the thing that had brought her to her lowest hadn’t because of her daredevil tendancies…

Fluttershy bit her lip. It was because...b-because…

*THUD*

“Oh! Rarity! I’m so, so-”

“It’s fine, dear.” Rarity sounded annoyed.

“Really, Rarity, I-”

“It’s not you, Fluttershy, it’s...Applejack.” Rarity sounded very tired.

“Applejack? D-Did you have a fight…?”

“Not exactly, darling…”
They walked together a few paces.

“Fluttershy?”

“Yes?”

“...Have you seen much of Applejack the past few days?”

Fluttershy shook her head.

“I have...Fluttershy...I...I don’t know what to think...she’s...it’s like there’s nothing wrong to her!” Rarity exploded, startling her companion. “She’s taken down all pictures of Rainbow Dash, and whenever I ask her how she’s feeling, she just...changes the subject! When I first noticed yesterday, I let it go, but...now...I...I don’t know what to think! She’s alienating herself from Rainbow and I hate it!”

“Poor Applejack.” Fluttershy murmured.

“Poor Applejack?! Poor Applejack! Don’t waste your sympathy, dear. As far as Applejack’s concerned, there is nothing the matter!” Her voice rose a pitch as she spoke the last part. She looked around and quickly realized that ponies were staring.

“U-um...can I say something?” Fluttershy whispered nervously.

“Certainly,” Said Rarity, whose face was still slightly pink from the unwanted attention.

“...Perhaps I could talk to Applejack about this? Would you like that?”

“Do as you wish, Fluttershy.” Rarity answered wearily. “I’m going home.”

Fluttershy nodded, wishing Rarity well and making a mental note to visit Sweet Apple Acres later.

In general, expect to see a bit more of me over break. Also, happy holidays.
