Chapter 8
It’s the Sign of Progress
*Location: Earth, Relic Hunters’ Base, +2 mouths since crash*
Volt and Nekros sat in the main office of the Relic Hunters’ base as they waited for Excalibur to finish up what he was doing on his holographic computer before turning to the others.
“Right so we need parts for extensions’ to the base and right now I have some intel from Lotus coming through that sadly I need to sort through,” Excalibur explained
“But why does that require both of us?” Nekros asked as he crossed his arms as Volt swung back on his chair
“Yea it’s not like I couldn’t do it in a flash,” Volt added as Excalibur rubbed his temples
“Look not only are the parts heavy and require more arms but you two or Volt for that matter don’t see eye-to-eye so to speak,” Excalibur explained as he sighed “So that’s why I’m paring you two up for the job,”
Volt’s eyes soon when as wide as dinner plates as he fell back and Nekros just rolled his eyes as Volt scrambled to his feet.
“But-but-but Excalibur not to be a jerk but I don’t want to have my soul ripped out whist I’m not looking!” Volt said in a panic as Nekros glanced at him from behind his shades
“I know that so that’s why I’m sending my sister with you,” Excalibur said as Volt got a slap to his back almost making him faint as Valkyr stood their smiling
“Don’t worry I’ll make sure Neky don’t rip you soul out… yet,” Valkyr said with an innocent smile as Volt whimpered
“Excalibur please don’t let my spark die this early,” Volt begged as Excalibur rolled his eyes at the pun before giving him a very serious face
“I may be your friend but I’m still your commander so you will do as I asked got it!!!” Excalibur yelled as he instantly saluted “Same goes for you two,”
They too saluted before dragging Volt (Literally) out of Excalibur’s office as he smiled and went back to work.
“Note to self, thank Twilight for this ‘Friendship’ idea,”
Valkyr, along with Nekros and Volt were busy shopping for new parts for the Base as they scanned through which items matched their highly updated technology.
Nekros however was waiting for them to finish up as he just stared into the night through the glass as he frowned beneath his mask. His train of thought was then cut off as 2 arms wrapped around his neck as he turned slightly to see Valkyr smiling at him.
“Sooo… whatchya doing?” Valkyr asked happily as he pointed out into the night towards the construction sight
“There’s something out there,” Nekros said as Volt joined them, carrying the items
“Hey I hate to burst your bubble Nekros but nothing is out there, you sure he’s not crazy?” Volt said before whispering the last part to Valkyr as she glared back
“Yea because you’re so much better at stealth then all of us? Or better yet who is the serious one out of all of us hmm? Or better yet whose better than you?” Nekros said sarcastically as Nekros named down almost every flaw with Volt as he seemed to snap at this
“Ok then Apathetic asshole tell me who has a sense of humour me or you?!” Volt snapped as Valkyr just looked wide-eyed at Volt as Nekros tuned his head before continuing
“Well looks like you finally have some good material keep it and duck,” Nekros responded before pulling Valkyr over as the glass shattered into pieces as Volt hit the deck
“Ok, ok, ok you’re not crazy ok!!!” Volt yelled as the attack subsided “Jesus could have warned us any later?”
"Now where's the fun in that?" Nekros asked with a shrug
Nekros sat below the counter as he waited for the figure to hide himself before sighing and then noticed Valkyr staring at him upside-down.
“Ow you could have warned me you were going to do that Neky?” Valkyr moaned as she flipped herself upright
“Sorry,” Nekros apologised as he got up and quickly made his way to the door “Let’s get going,”
Volt decided to ditch the bags and followed them out the door as he jogged up to Valkyr and poked her to get her attention.
“Hey you mind telling me why Nekros never takes me seriously or the fact he never shows anyone gratitude because I feel like blasting him to knock some sense into him!” Volt asked with anger as he then noticed Valkyr’s expression as she stopped
“Hey Nekros will catch up you go on ahead!” Valkyr said as he nodded and ran on, Valkyr then turned around with a frown on her face as she sighed
“He wasn’t always like this, before he met me and my brother he did emit emotions like any other person, but after what Alad V did to him he physically can’t emit emotions, or at least weak ones,” Valkyr said as he sighed a bit as she shook slightly
“He was meant to be a slave that would senselessly slaughter his enemies without any remorse or regret, but after he broke out he could have done just that,”
“I was still chained to my table as he stood over me with a Reaper, then and there he could have killed me, he could have ended my life…”
“But he didn’t, he-he saved you…” Volt finished in surprise as Valkyr nodded, Volt thought for a moment about everything Nekros has done and yet not once did he show any emotion, not even during their ‘Crash time’ he then sighed “I’m- I’m sorry for everything… I didn’t know he went through all that and I just…”
“Now you know why I’m like this,” Nekros said from behind Volt as he jumped in alarm “I may not smile, laugh or cry but trust me I do like you and your jokes, just try to take my advice seriously, none of us got here being reckless,”
“Yea ok then and… sorry for snapping at you,” Volt said as he rubbed the back of his neck as Nekros nodded as he held a fist out to him as Volt bumped his fist agenst his.
“So you boys all ready?” Valkyr said as she wore her armour and soon the two equipped theirs as they nodded “So tell me what Tenno is it?”
Nekros shrugged as he pointed at the police line.
“Oh,” Valkyr and Volt said in unison as they ran forward and jumped right over them as they yelled
“Wait!” Nekros said abruptly as they looked around the area, Nekros then holstered his Lex as he turned “You really suck at hiding,”
Volt and Valkyr soon turned and faced the 2nd floor of the building as a bubble of energy dissipated and soon (He) stood there as he leaned agenst a steel beam as he twirled a (Fragor) in his grasp as a (Dark Sword) hung on his back with a (Paris).
Nekros and Limbo both just stared at each other as the wind silently blew around them before they both yelled in joy.
“NEKROS!!!” Limbo yelled in a British accent as his arms flung out to his sides
“LIMBO!!!” Nekros said with actual joy as he did the same before they both ran towards each other
They both then swung a fist at each other’s faces as their fists collided, sending them flying into the air and into the dirt. Volt and Valkyr just watched in awe at the sight before Valkyr got an new message for Nekros.
Nekros then got up as he waved towards Limbo as he came back with a Steel support beam in hand as he threw it forward hitting Nekros in the chest as it imbedded him into the concreate wall.
“Finally someone who is of equal intelligence!” Nekros croaked out as he shifted out of the wall as he walked over to a steamroller
He then proceeded to grab a wheel and slowly swung the massive vehicle around as he slung it towards Limbo as he activated his rift ability, as he side-stepped the steamroller as it slowed in the rift.
“Come now surly you have something better up your sleeve old friend?” Limbo asked in disappointment as Nekros brought out his Braton and began unleashing a hail storm
As Limbo watched the bullets pass him he quickly ran out of the rift and leaped in the air and brought out his Fragor as he hurled it at Nekros as it knocked him out of balance as Limbo brought it up towards his head.
“Imma plant me a dumbass tree!” Limbo said before bringing the hammer down on Nekros’s head with a resounding crack of the earth
When the dust cleared Limbo saw Nekros with his head in the ground as he glanced over at the odd machine that Volt and Valkyr held as he saw the orange glow of her energy radiate off her body.
“Answer me this, is my acting good?” Nekros asked as Limbo turned back and plucked him from the ground by the leg
“Pardon?” Limbo asked
“I said is my acting good?” Nekros repeated as the rubble rolled off his frame
“Yeeess…?” Limbo answered in confusion “Something’s up here but what?”
Limbo shrugged as he kicked Nekros flying into the building as his head landed right neck to rebar as he sighed in relief as he watched Limbo approach with his Dark Sword in hand.
Nekros then glanced down at his battered armour as he smiled in his helmet before quickly rolling forward with his Duel Lex and began to unload both clips into Limbo as he stopped in his tracks before collapsing to one knee.
“Hey Valkyr let er rip,” Nekros said as she nodded clicking the gun her and Volt were holding and soon Limbo gasped in realization
“You wouldn’t?” Limbo asked in fear as Nekros cocked his head to the side
“Just ask Loki and I think this would be what you call a ‘Shocking’ revelation?” Nekros said as Volt laughed
“Did you just- “
*SPLASH*
Soon Limbo’s entire body was assaulted by lemon juice as Limbo rived in pain as his slash marks filled with lemon juice as Nekros got to his feet and walked away from his now crippled friend.
“See told you It would work,” Nekros said as Volt threw the weapon back to him as he Digistruct it
Volt then saw Valkyr crossing her arms as she tapped her foot rapidly as she hummed slightly.
“Umm Valkyr why are you doing that?” Volt asked in concern
“Oh don’t you remember what he said during their fight?” She said in a calm but dangerous voice as Volt’s inner light bulb turned on as he crossed his arms
“Ohhhh yea, so… meet you back at base?” Volt asked as she gave him the thumbs up before walking over to Nekros
“So you think I’m unintelligent huh?” Valkyr said in a sarcastic voice as Nekros froze
“Well you see I can… explain...,” Nekros trailed off as he could already feel the heat growing as he soon did a 180 and ran for it, but then Ripline wrapped around his arms and torso
“Oh don’t worry if you think what you did to Loki was bad, well then you’re surely mistaken,” Valkyr said in a very deadly voice that made Nekros struggle even more
“If I remember correctly you hate having people misplace your stuff, right?” Valkyr asked with a grin behind her mask as Nekros thrashed even more
“No, please you vile woman let me go! Please I’ll bloody smash my face into rebar, just don’t touch my stuff!” Nekros cried in pain as she hummed whist dragging him away into the darkness
“Will we be alright?” Limbo asked as Volt helped him to his feet
“Well if there’s one thing I know, nothing is going to save him,” Volt answered with a nod as they proceeded to follow the two into the night "That and I do believe you know the answer to this ending yes?"
Limbo nodded as he shivered in fear of what he has now gotten himself into.
Her voice so calm
Like a gentle breeze
But unheard by the roaring thunder
That suppresses the masses
Ash
