Tempted to do a Rewrite · 12:57pm May 18th
Hello all, it's been a minute but I'm just letting you know I'm doing well still. Everything has been going smoothly and I thank everyone again for their help previously.
Onto other things.
I've been rereading and looking through stuff, and while I'm still in the midst of writing for Vacation (which has been my only focus as the majority of my other stories are on hold or dead) and I've come to the conclusion about something with one of my stories, and that's What It Means.
To put it simply, I'm unhappy with the direction it's gone in. I was having a lot of fun writing it up until the 'Tunnels n' Shit' arc where I had introduced a horde of Undead that chased our protagonists, forcing them on the run and sending our main hero into the depths of an ancient mountain. I managed to pick it up after a whole year of hiatus during that period of my life, but it was a struggle due to a variety of irl circumstances I won't delve into.
A commenter even stated they weren't particularly happy with the Undead either, which I can understand. It's been beaten into the ground time and time again. I'm not super happy with the start, the current plot I was working with, as well as some of the characterization, and I genuinely want to redo a lot of it and make a new story.
THAT SAID, I know it sucks, but I wouldn't be tossing the entire idea away, I'd simply be reworking the beginning arcs and then reworking some unpublished stuff into it to beef it up when the time comes.
I'm curious about people's thoughts. I know some won't be happy, but I'm curious regardless.
if you think its worth, go for it
Write.
Write what you want to write. It doesn't matter what.
But do it. And do it for you.
I won't pretend that it will be easy for you. You know it's not.
But you also know that writing gives to a unique satisfaction like nothing else can.
And that is worth everything.
You do what you believe is best and if some stories are dead probably best to delete them
Do it, you won't, no balls.
If you're not happy with it, then you don't need to ask. It's your story, we're just the readers.
It’s your call to make. I’ve been enjoying the story myself, but if you think it needs a rewrite, then I say you should trust your judgement. I’m looking forward to what comes next either way.
Edit: If it helps, I also have a couple stories I feel could be better after looking back on them, and have been planning to rewrite them for a while, so I completely understand the feeling.
