The Crystal Heart was never brought back to the Crystal Ponies. King Sombra successfully took back the Crystal Empire and declared war on Equestria.

Underpowered and unprepared, Equestria is barely a match for Sombra's army. Everypony needed to do their part just for the war to reach a stalemate, but is their a glimmer of hope within the hearts of some?

This is a rewrite of a story I wrote a few years ago that I decided to re-do from scratch.

Growing concerned with the activities of the Twilight Sparkle from Crystal Prep and with no reply from Princess Twilight, Sunset decides to take matters into her own hands and go back to Equestria and find Twilight to get her help.

However, Sunset finds herself unknowingly trapped within Twilight's time loop with Starlight Glimmer, arriving in Nightmare Moon's timeline. It's now up to Sunset to find out why things aren't the way they should be and get back to the human world before it's too late.

The Lunar Republic has been around for just over a hundred years now. Nightmare Moon's assassination leaves Emperor Midnight in charge of the empire. There are rumors of a rebellion forming, which brings hope to the weak and miserable ponies of the Republic, but little do they know that the rebellion is already far underway.

Emperor Midnight orders a bombing on the city of Canterlot, which is known to be the home of this rebellion. Unfortunately, the leader of the rebellion himself, Shining Armor, is lost in the attack. Now his sister, Twilight Sparkle is sent to defend the last standing city of Equestria, the Crystal Empire, with the new leader of the rebellion and six other ponies she has befriended.

A devastating spell horribly disfigures an innocent unicorn named Tirek and turns him into a centaur. Ponies everywhere shun him and claim he is a monster.

Only Tirek's younger brother, Scorpan sees good in his brother, but the anger and hatred Tirek has for everypony else slowly causes the good inside him to vanish. Tirek sets his sights on Equestria's magic, ready to prove once and for all that nopony messes with him!

3 years ago, Princess Celestia ascended to The Great Beyond, leaving King Flash Sentry and Queen Twilight Sparkle in charge of Equestria. Twilight has the Tree of Harmony uprooted from the Everfree Forest and re-planted in a garden in Canterlot, but Twilight doesn't realize the consequences until Equestria is once again threatened by the black vines from the Everfree Forest.

After exterminating the pesky weeds, Twilight becomes unpopular with her subjects, and her family is put in danger.

After a hard day's work of being a princess. Twilight becomes annoyed from Spike's complaints about his duties, so to prove that her job is harder than Spike's, she decides to swap races with him and leave Spike as the temporary Prince of Magic.

Shining Armor finds himself getting strange visions of Nightmare Moon and King Sombra, and his magic has been all over the place. Little does he know that a cult that plans on bringing back Nightmare Moon has infected him with Dark Magic

Without the Elements of Harmony, can Nightmare Moon be stopped? Or will the night truly last forever?

Tagged as Alternate Universe due to the difference of events from the series.

Trixie comes knocking on Twilight's door, bringing the news that she is sick and knows the end is near. She begs Twilight to forgive her of all she has done as she slowly withers away, though Twilight just wants to prove to Trixie that she's simply caught a cold.

After Discord's defeat, Equestria was slowly recovering. Misery was everywhere, and orphaned children were found everywhere on the streets of Canterlot, only some were lucky enough to be taken to orphanages. Princess Luna proposed to form a new colony, where everypony can grow strong and happy, but Celestia forbade it, in fear of such an action dividing and shattering the weakened kingdom, forever. But Luna decides to carry on with her plan in secret anyway.
