Short for Lord Regulus. I hope you will enjoy what my brain comes up with. You can throw money at me here: Ko-fi

As they say, it takes money to make money, and with Ahuizotl’s recent cavalcade of failures completely draining his finances, the fearsome fiend finds himself unable to support his diabolical treasure-snatching lifestyle. His exploits not even garnering the attention of his arch-nemesis Daring Do anymore, he decides to swallow what little pride he has left and do the unthinkable: earn a living through… honest work. However, where can a world-infamous dungeon raider start anew to pay off his mountain of debt and dues to the unforgiving Association for Harrowing Archaeology?

Wait... did I just start writing a fan-fiction starring Ahuizotl? :applejackconfused:

Weird. :rainbowhuh:

Seems interesting and full of potential.
Liked n faved.

Let's see how this turns out

This story needs more love. Excellent work, and I'll definitely follow it.

Just realized that now that I'm not editing for you, I'll need to favourite your stories to now when chapters are released. And in case your wondering, not favouriting Unraveling a Rainbow because I've been meaning to read about a dozen similar stories for a while now.

No worries. Unraveling might be going on a hiatus soon for... reasons.

Oh and not because my phone was stolen. Because other... reasons.

4993241 By any chance, is that reason because you were secretly a changeling the whole time and your previous identity was actually a false persona that had a whole mind of it's own that's just now unraveling due to an invasion of your capital by a massive force of lesser changelings? Cause if it is, I promise I won't tell anyone. Maybe.

AKA Snakeskin shedding and CURSES! Foiled again!

Do you not find one such as I,” she stood to her hind legs and spun around once, punctuating her rotation cessation with hip gyration, “appealing?” How equine barrel dancers balance on their wobbly hind legs is simply beyond me.

Equine barrel dancers?

I really like how this is going.

Welp, the oh-so-sinister narrating makes me want to read more of this. Faved.

Silly Ahuizotl. If you want to frighten everypony again, you're going to need either a Surprise or a Monstrous Manual.

A Bell Tower wouldn't hurt either. :pinkiehappy:

Crap! I was running late for work and forgot to leave a "First" comment behind!

It's also fun to write. :rainbowwild: Thanks for the fav and keep on the look out for more!

Ahuizotl: ... I need nothing but my sharp wit and cunning to be feared by one such as you. Also about 50 bits and a fog machine couldn't hurt for the added dramatic fla-- I'm doing it again! :twilightangry2:

The "jaded" speech can be very hit or miss with me, but the final sentence ("grumpy archaeologist") made it a hit.

5073553
Jaded Lyra? Oof... not what I was going for, going to have to watch out for that in the future.

5073834 Well, it's entirely possible that I just misspoke. I was referring to the speech I've seen people give sometimes in fanfiction: "Oh, you think you're so impressive? Well, stuff worse than what you do happens here all the time, so whatever pal!"

When I say jaded, I mean that the people giving this speech are usually inured to a certain level of the local brand of chaos that would be expected to unnerve or at least bother people first encountering it. In this case, Ahuizotl is used to civilians being less resilient. Upon consulting a dictionary, that may not be quite what "jaded" is supposed to mean. It's close, but it seems to have less emphasis on "built up a resistance" and instead a suggestion of "overindulgence".

5073888
Ah, so not her personality, but the fact that the speech is cliche?

5073927 No, it is her personality as well, but "jaded" may have given you the wrong impression depending on your understanding of that term, because I may have been slightly misusing it. The speech was cliche, but the cliche isn't necessarily bad.

If you didn't mean to show us that Lyra's exposure to potentially-Equestria-dooming threats, and the lesser events that orbit the Mane Six, is such that the Daring Do supervillain is basically just an eccentric roommate, then there is a problem. But it kind of seems to me that that was exactly the point of the speech, so if that's correct then there shouldn't be a problem.

5073986 Ah, that was intentional. Ahuizotl is a tough villain, so it's going to take a unique pair of roommates to keep him company. :ajsmug:

Kirth and Marby?

I see what you did there,

I don't know why you did it, but I see it.

And so the inside joke no reader on the site was supposed to even spot was acknowledged! Good on you.

Such things happen when dyslexia and fighting games are involved.

With a flourish, Lyra dropped her magic as she back flipped to her hind legs, catching the fiddle and bow in her forehooves as she started playing the instrument like an earth pony. Double-jointed indeed; she stood on her hind legs in a way I’d only seen younger dragons carry themselves.

Had to draw her...

I hope Ahi starts messing around with the Castle of the Two Sisters. Yeah, I know the terrible things that will happen if he's caught, but it's right there, and oh so tempting!

Apparently the book business was doing well enough in Ponyville to warrant its own location

Check out my surprised face.

I have to admit I was thrown off by the start of the chapter. I was sure Diamond Tiara or Silver Spoon would have a hit out.

This feels like a lead-in to the Recettear x MLP crossover with Lyra in it, and Lyra hiring Ahuizotl to go dungeon-hunting to plunder goods for her shop.

I think the ultimate end-goal of this would be for Ahuizotl to reform the bad guys association into a union that refuses to do anything until the good guys start paying part of the revenue from their book sales into the union. That would be truly evil, rotten to the core :rainbowhuh:

Well, it's no wonder Lyra can sit up on her plot if she's double-jointed as she is.

Literally one of maybe two or three fics that do more than a passing mention of the Cajun ponies, too.

I'm just wondering how Ahuizotl will react when he runs into Rainbow Dash. If he's lucky, she'll act first and be the one to be at fault (with a suitable number of witnesses, that is).

Ha, I was wondering if we were going to see a callback to the Slice of Life episode with Sweetie Drops. Not quite how I expected it to go though, but I suppose Lyra will probably think Ahuizotl and 'Sweetie Drops' must have bet earlier by now

I see Pinkie was out on a friendship mission of some sort of another. How convenient that the inevitable encounter with the six who helped Daring ruin one of his latest schemes should be delayed for yet another day :rainbowwild:

8302535
Yep. All six of them out on an adventure and away from the castle. Bonus points if you can guess which episode this happens before/during.

8240104
But that's too obvious. I like my filly villainy to be accidental.

8239804
Oh, its always alive. It just moves like molasses as its something I go back to when I hit a block on a different story.

I bet the book store gets subsidised by Equestria so their newest Princess doesn't have a mental meltdown without enough new books once per week :trollestia:

Haha, that apple fritter quest was great.
