Although the elements of harmony had sealed the monster known as Nightmare Moon inside Luna, what if she was still present, subconsciously tearing Luna apart, and what if she was able to break free?
Twilight and the Main 6 defeated Nightmare Moon long ago using the Elements of Harmony, although she was defeated, she still settled within the mind of Luna, slowly fighting to get free. When that opportunity comes she no longer is out for revenge.
Luna awoke on a dirt road, she turned her head left and right, nothing but woods. Luna had no idea to how she got to where she was or why she was there, she tried to get up but pain shot through all her body, forcing her back onto the ground. All that she could do was stare into the empty darkness of the night. A cool breeze rustled the trees that surrounded her making a melancholic melody.
She stared into the sky for what seemed like forever, the pain in her body still present, and all attempts to stand thwarted by what seemed like an invisible force. Just then, the sky lit up with an eerie orange glow, then following it was screams. In an instant adrenaline shot through Luna’s body, she found strength to get up and looked for the source of the screams, a small blaze illuminated the end of the road. Luna ran down the road as fast as her legs allowed to get to the source.
As she got closer and closer she realized where she was heading, it was Ponyville. She came to a stop, fear ran through her body, Ponyville was burning, ponies were running in panic. Luna slowly walked through the town, the sight of destruction overwhelming her.
She tried to use her magic to douse the flames that were devouring the city, but her magic refused to work no matter how hard she tried. She was dazed and confused, what was going on, why was her magic refusing to work, who would've done such a thing to Ponyville? She heard screams as groups of ponies ran towards her, she tried to jump out of the way to avoid crashing into them, but they ran around her, few glancing at her as they passed.
"Anypony, tell me what monster did this!" She called out, one of the ponies stopped and turned, his eyes made contact with Luna's as he stared at her his pupils dilated. "IT'S HER, IT'S HER!" He cried out as he ran away to catch up with the other fleeing ponies. Luna held out her hoof and called out to him, "Wait, don't run, what are you talking about!?" but he didn't reply, he simply pressed on.
She walked the direction that that ponies had fled from, "Whatever is down there is without a doubt the source." She told herself, as she made her way down she heard crying, she cut through an alley to follow the source, she found a family helplessly watching their house burning down. "Are you all ok?" She extended her hoof to touch the Colt's shoulder, but instead her hoof went right through him.
"Wha-what is going on?" Luna asked herself, she looked at her hoofs to see that they were completely transparent, just then laughter filled the air, the family looked around in fear and ran at Luna, going right through her, completely oblivious to Luna's presence. "Well look who it is, after so many years apart!" More laughter followed.
“Wh-Who’s there?” Luna stuttered. “My, my, to think you would forget your own flesh and blood darling.” The moment these words entered Luna’s ears she collapsed on the ground as if forced. Laughter filled the air as descending from the heavens a shadow appeared in the sky, as it got closer and closer Luna was able to make out who it was. It was Nightmare Moon.
She gently landed on the ground in front of Luna, a smug smile crawled across her face. The mare stood tall in front of Luna. "Hello dear, did you miss me?" Panic crossed Luna’s body, she barely was able to talk “I-I thought The Elements of Harmony had destroyed you.”
“But dear, in order to get rid of me, they would have to get rid of you.” She gently placed her hoof under Luna’s chin. “After all, I am your jealousy, I am your hate...” She gently whispered, “I am you.” Luna slapped her hoof from her, she got up and prepared a spell, her magic had appeared to come back to her. Her horn glowing a weak white
“I-I’m not afraid of you...” Luna sputtered. Nightmare smiled, “If that was true...” She vanished. Luna looked everywhere, aiming her horn in every direction, waiting for the enemy to reappear. Nightmare's voice appeared from nowhere, “Then you wouldn't be shaking like a dog.” Luna looked to her right to find Nightmare right by her side. Smiling. Luna nearly jumped out of her skin, she fired a direct shot at Nightmare Moon, but she easily deflected it.
Luna fired a barrage of shots, but Nightmare dodged every one of them on the spot with ease, one of the shots did hit her, but it left no marks. Luna started to break sweat, what was going on? Her magic was one of the most powerful in the land, but she seemed seemingly useless. “Confused my darling?” Nightmare asked, she walked up to Luna, her horn glowing a vibrant blue, she fired a direct hit at Luna sending her flying straight into a building.
Luna coughed, blinded by the dust and smoke of the building, she struggled to get up when another shot hit Luna right in the stomach, the force caused her to cough blood. Nightmare Stood directly above Luna, a smile spread wide across her face. "Why are you doing all of this?” Luna begged, tears beginning to stream down her face, small trails of blood inching down her face. All From her pain and the destruction of Ponyville.
“Why?” Nightmare appeared directly above Luna. “To show you the possibilities if we become one once again Luna, we were made for each other.” She smirked, “Join me, and we together will easily defeat Celestia, I can once again put Equestria into eternal darkness, and all of this will be mine.”
She inched closer to Luna, to the point where their snouts made contact. She began to whisper “All of this will be ours...” Suddenly Nightmare Moon screamed at inhuman volumes. Luna darted straight up from bed, sweat poured down her face, and she was inhaling deeply.
She lit a small lantern by her bedside and using her magic, picked up a scroll and quill. She began to write, reading out loud what she wrote, “Dear Twilight Sparkle...” She began.
“Woohoo!” Rainbow Dash screamed. She did a cannonball into the water, creating a huge splash. Shortly after her head popped out from the water, seeing that she had gotten Pinkie Pie and Applejack, who were sitting near the lake, completely drenched in water. “Heh, sorry,” She giggled and turned on her back, doing a back float across the lake.
Applejack took off her hat and examined it. It was completely drenched in water. “Well I’ll be darned; My hat is ruined!” Applejack shouted. She wringed the water out of her hat and mane, Pinkie Pie on the other hand didn’t mind being soaking wet, she was amazed by the splash that Rainbow Dash made. She jumped up and down, water flying everywhere from her soaked mane. “That was amazing Rainbow Dash, that splash was even bigger than the last one!”
Rainbow Dash looked up at Pinkie and smiled, “Thanks Pinkie,” She replied, enjoying the praise she received from her friend. “Now, now girls, you wouldn’t want to get soaked before you even got the chance to have a bit, wouldn’t you?” The girls looked over to see Rarity and Fluttershy trotting down the hill with picnic baskets.
“Howdy gal’s, i'm supposing that those there are for the picnic.” Applejack asked, still wringing water from her hat. Rarity nodded, “Indeed it is Applejack, me and Fluttershy decided to get some extra stuff for the picnic while we wait for Twilight to get the rest.” She placed the basket on the ground and ever so carefully removed and placed the contents onto the ground with her magic. Inside the basket was a blanket, fancy silverware, plates, and other finery.
Applejack placed her hat on a solitary branch of a nearby tree to allow it to dry. She trotted over to the blanket and placed herself down in front of one of the plates. Pinkie Pie herself shaked the water off herself like a dog, and too joined the other three ponies at the blanket.
After Rainbow Dash had made her way back from her around the lake, she got out of the water, she flew around at high speeds, after a few seconds she was completely dry, her mane completely unaffected. She made her way to the blanket too and placed herself too.
Fluttershy placed down her basket down and opened it, “What did you bring Fluttershy?” Rainbow Dash asked, Fluttershy quietly replied, “Oh just some vegetable and bread for sandwiches. If that’s ok that is.” She buried her face a little behind the basket.
“It’s great Fluttershy, this food is going to be soooooo delicious!” Pinkie Pie licked her lips, Fluttershy was relieved. “Oh thank you Pinkie Pie, that makes me feel so much better!” She smiled and pulled out the contents of the picnic basket and also placed them on the blanket.
The girls shared stories, conversations, and laughs, still waiting for Twilight to arrive. “Darn, I wonder, what’s taking Twilight so long to get here?” Just then, the girls heard a faint sound of running, they looked up to see Twilight running towards them, Spike sitting on her back.
She shortly caught up to the others she came to a stop, huffing and puffing, some sweat trickled down the side of her head. “Twilight? Is everything ok?” Rainbow Dash asked, Twilight replied, pausing between breaths. “Spike... Read... The... Letter...”
Spike hopped off of Twilight’s back, he cleared his throat and began to read.
“Dear Twilight Sparkle,
All is not well I fear, lately I have been had terrible Nightmares, nightmares of death, destruction, pain, fear, all of which have come from an old enemy of yours, Nightmare Moon. I do not know how she is still alive after the Elements were used against her, and I do not know why she is doing what she has done but, I can say one thing, “She is out for revenge, out for blood.”
The dreams have gotten worse and worse, to the point where I fear sleep over everything. I have been too exhausted to perform my duties as a princess and it is heavily affecting those in Canterlot. I need you to come here as soon as you receive this letter.
Even if these dreams are just my subconscious kicking in from the period of which I was Nightmare Moon or if this is a serious threat that needs to be taken care of instantly does not matter, the problem must be eliminated as soon as possible.

By the time spike finished the letter Twilight had finally caught her breath, everyone else was dead silent. After the few awkward moments of silence that followed it was finally broke when Apple Jack spoke up “Why gosh Twilight, shouldn't you be packing up and go on your way?”
Twilight coughed, still clouded up from the run, and responded “Of course, but I wanted you all to come along, if this is as serious as Luna is making it to be I need all of the help that I can get.” The others nodded; Rarity sighed and began to put her stuff back into her basket. “Well it seems like our picnic will be held off until this issue is resolved.” The others laughed at what Rarity said, making the moment a little less tense for them. “Well anyways, we need to get going, everyone follow me.” Twilight said, the others followed behind her as they ran back to Ponyville while Applejack ran to the tree to collect her hat, but then too ran back to Ponyville.
The train station was busy as usual, ponies from all over coming and going as they pleased, Twilight and her friends boarded the train whilst handing a Ticketmaster their tickets. They took their seats and waited for the train to come to life. They were all silent, rather from excitement or nervousness, none of them, not even Twilight knew what would happen once they arrived in Canterlot.
As the minutes passed more and more ponies entered the train and soon the train was filled with the loud, distracting sounds of conversations.
After a while longer a voice echoed through the train from speakers, the voice belonged to an older colt. "Ladies and gentlecolts the train for Canterlot will be departing in five minutes. Please aboard the train and take your seats.”
“Well gal’s here we go,” Applejack said, the other girls nodded except for Pinkie, she was busy making faces at a baby in a neighboring seat.
“Yes, I just hope this isn't too serious, last thing we need is another threat destroying Equestria.” Rarity added, Nightmare Moon was powerful enough to defeat Princess Celestia and change the forces of nature themselves, if she was to escape somehow, who knows what kind of destruction she could spread across Equestria?
A few minutes later the train’s engine screamed to life, the wheels screeched across the metal of the train tracks, smoke sputtered out of the trains pipes with every slow chug the train made when it slowly sprung itself into action. Within a minute the train picked up speed, and in no time, it was racing down the tracks as its made way to Canterlot. ______________________________________________________________________________
A few hours passed before the train made its stop to Canterlot, the train slowly screeched to a halt. It’s engine died down and the doors of the train opened up for the ponies to roam. Twilight and her friends exited the train, the nice breeze of summer welcomed their exit.
The ponies groaned and stretched finally free from the cramp seats they sat on, Twilight sighed, “Well girls, here we are. We better get to the palace as soon as we can.” “You got that right,” Applejack replied. The girls trotted down the streets of Canterlot, it was its normal self, ponies wearing ridiculous outfits with wigs to go with them, ponies exiting and entering clothing and style stores of all kinds to make sure their looks were up to date, and sitting at restaurants eating food in high value, the life style always seemed alien to that of Ponyville.
The sky was red from the setting sun the ponies silently adored all of the interesting oddities they came across. The stores which had everything you could ever need to make a dress, or throw a party, and the huge libraries which held the information of every spell or potion anypony would need in their lifetime, you name it.
The six ponies had finally reached the gates of the castle, they were greeted by two guards who stood by the gates, they both carried spears by their sides. They were taller than the others, almost towering above them.
One of the guards looked down at Twilight, “Oh, hello Twilight Sparkle, you have business with Princess Celestia I assume.” Twilight shook her head, “No sir, I have business with Princess Luna.” The expression of the guards face turned grim, he looked around as if he was being watched. “Of course, please, come on in.” He yelled over to the other side of the gate. “Hey boys, get the gate opened, we have company!” The gates seconds later slowly drew open, the sounds of huffing could be heard from the top of the gates. After a minutes wait the gate was completely open, both guards nodded their go and the six trotted in.
“ Wasn't it a bit odd the way he was acting?” Rainbow Dash asked, the gate slowly crawled to the close behind them. “Sure was Rainbow Dash, I wonder what's going on around here.” Twilight replied, they all were surprised by the number of guards that crowded the castle once they made it to the grounds. They surrounded the many walls of the castle, the castle grounds, the towers, and the interiors of the castle.
Twilight dashed over to one of the guards asking, “Excuse me, but why are there so many guards here?” The guard turned around, he was a well built stallion, he had a brown coat, and wore royal armor.
“I don’t know, we were all dispatched here by Princess Luna’s request, yet no one really knows why we’re here.” After that answer Twilight understood what the answer was, she thanked him and ran with the rest of the group.
“Ok, we need to get to Luna’s immediately, i’m afraid there’s something bad happening soon.” Twilight alerted her friends, they followed Twilight’s lead up a set of stairs that lead to Luna’s quarters . ______________________________________________________________________________
By the time they reached the top of the towers to Luna’s room the sun was only a sliver over the horizon. Twilight reached out her hoof to knock on the towering wooden doors, but the creaked open before she was able to make contact with the door. An eerie dark blue glow lurked in the darkness of the room, followed was a pair of eyes, they were bloodshot and the pupils of the eyes dilated, and then Luna’s head popped completing the picture. The girls were shocked to see Luna, her mane glew a dimmer color then it usually was, bags formed under her eyes, and she looked like a wreck. She breathed heavily before talking, “You’re late Twilight Sparkle, I do not appreciate that.”
Twilight looked panicked, “I’m sorry, I got here as fast as I could.” Luna sighed and looked down the the ground, “I apologize, I’m just not myself right now, please follow me.” She opened the door and welcomed them all in, the lights were turned on.
The girls were again surprised, the room was a wreck, the beds curtains and sheets were torn up, crumpled up papers littered the room, a mirror belonging to a dresser was smashed to bits, and on the walls were drawings of Nightmare Moon. Luna sighed and looked around the room like it was normal. “I apologize for the slight mess, I haven’t been able to think straight.”
Applejack whispered to Fluttershy, “Slight mess? It looks like a group of bulls rampaged through here,” Fluttershy nodded in agreement. Meanwhile Luna tried to focus on a spell to clean up the room, her horn faintly glew before she collapsed on one leg sweating.
Twilight ran over to Luna and helped her up, “Princess, you shouldn’t be wearing yourself out like this, I’ll take care of it.” Twilight quickly returned the room to normal in a quick whip of magic. Luna stood on her own and walked over to one of the walls.
She played with the bricks embedded in the wall until one of them drove into the wall, the bricks by where she was began to shake and then began to also drive into the wall, creating the shape of an arch. Dust embedded on the wall fell to the ground and then the rumbling stopped.
Luna looked to Twilight, “This way.” Luna walked into the pathway and disappeared from sight Twilight looked to the others and then walked down, the others began to follow before they heard Luna’s voice, “No one else can come, only Twilight.”
The girls looked to Twilight with concern, she gave a slight smile to them and said, “I’ll be fine girls, don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” She turned around and mumbled to herself, “I hope.” Suddenly the walls behind closed, and the room was consumed in darkness. ______________________________________________________________________________
Twilight quickly used her magic to make her horn shine to allow light into the tunnel, long flights of stairs welcomed her. She slowly walked down the stairs, each step she made hauntingly echoed throughout the tunnel.
The walls surrounding her were covered in cobwebs and cracks, they looked as if they had been built and forgotten, and that one false move and the entire thing would collapse and the smell of rotted wood and mold filled her lungs. Every step she made would leave dust imprints behind her, the walk was long and tiresome.
When she made her way to the bottom reaching small corridor, she made her way through and when she reached the end she was amazed. She was in a large library in the shape of a dome, every wall to the top was filled with book upon book. The floor too had pews that also contained books.
She walked around, gazing at the lines of books, all of them were spells. “Wow, this is amazing, so many spells!” She called out. “This is the room of forbidden spells,” Luna’s voice replied, echoing off the shelves of the library. “A hidden room only known to the royal family that was built generations ago. It was to hold spells that were considered unstable or too dangerous if fallen in the wrong ponies hands.”
Twilight looked to the source of the voice and found Luna browsing the shelves, as if she was looking for something.
Twilight ran up to Luna, she looked at the shelves she was peeking at and then back to Luna. “Uhm, what exactly are you looking for?” Twilight asked. Luna simple ignored her and keep looking, she examined the bindings of each book until eventually she pulled out a book.
“Here it is.” She said to herself, she levitated the book with her magic and walked away to the center of the Library, where she dropped the book on the ground. Twilight followed suit, she looked down to the ground and saw a simple sun, moon, and star carved into the ground all overlapping each other.
She scanned the cover of the book, it had markings of which she wasn't familiar with, on the binding was a golden pin with the face of StarSwirl the Bearded embedded on it. “This book is StarSwirl’s forbidden spells. They were created by him during his training with Celestia, but they had to be locked away. For they were considered too risky or dangerous for the well being of ponies. So they spend their life down here with all the others.”
Luna used her magic to flip through the pages, mumbling “No” to herself until she soon shouted out, “A-ha!” Twilight read the title of the page, “Mind Portal” below it was an illustration that depicted two ponies laying on the ground, above one of them was the silhouette of one of the ponies.
“What is this?” Twilight asked, intrigued. “This is the spell we will be using to get rid of Nightmare Moon.” “What does it do?” “It allows for another pony to enter the mind of another, which is what you will be doing.” Twilight jumped back and yelled, “What! You sa.id these spells were too dangerous, and you expect me to just go along with this!?” “Yes, it’s the only way, rather this or the end. Your choice.” Luna answered. Twilight kept quiet and gulped, “Well, I guess you’re right, here goes.”
Luna stepped back from the book and laid on the ground, Twilight did the same. “For this spell you must keep your eyes closed and have full attention, or the consequences will be dire.” Luna announced. Twilight closed her eyes and nodded her head. She heard Luna begin to read.
“Life cannot be seen through only an eye, the truth settles in a ponies mind. Open the gate, allow for the eye to see all, transfer Twilight’s eyes into ones mind!”
The last thing Twilight heard before she blacked out was the sound of crackling.
Twilight suddenly jolted awake, she felt light headed and her sight was blurry, eventually she gained focus. She was in a black abyss, there was no indication to where she was supposed to go and what she was supposed to do. She called out hoping for an answer, “Hello?” Her voice echoed through the void, no answer.
She let out another hello, again, only the trailing voice of her echos responded. She spun around in panic, she let out a series of “Hello,” and “Luna,” but no answers were given, only the empty echos.
Then, she heard a faint whisper in her head. Move forward Twilight Sparkle, The voice sounded faintly like Luna’s. Twilight called out, “Luna, is that you.” Yes, you can hear me for I am talking to you directly through my mind, now listen up. Move forward and you should eventually make it to the main area of my mind. There somewhere should be Nightmare Moon. “Should?” She should be lingering within the emotional or memories of my mind, you need to find her and defeat her in anyway. Also, once you leave this room I will not be able to communicate with you. “Wait, how do you know all of this?” Twilight asked. Its stated within the book. “Oh right.” Enough conversation, now get moving.
Twilight used her magic to create just enough light for her to see in the room, the light revealed a small path that led to a small smudge of light. She trotted down the path as quick as she could, prepared for whatever could be in front of her.
As she advanced closer and closer to the light, she closed her eyes due to the emens (dunno if i spelt that right) amount of light, When she made her way through she slowly opened her eyes again.. She was in what looked like another endless room, but this time the room was a vibrant of light colors.Surrounding her were what looked like bubbles, but upon closer inspection they all depicted different memories.
Some were fierce battles with foes of many kind, most of the time they were alongside her sister. She saw their battle with Discord, defeating him with the Elements of Harmony. She saw battles of beasts of which she had never seen or heard of before.
She was in awe of the power that both Luna and Celestia possessed in every battle she watched. She shook her head, What are you doing Twilight? You have a mission to do! She walked away from the bubble as it floated away, she ran throughout the vast room trying not to be distracted by Luna’s endless memories.
She spent a large amount of time searching for Nightmare Moon, she collapsed on the ground exhausted. She began to talk to herself in between her breaths, “I... need to find... Nightmare Moon.” She pushed herself up for another run, again she ran throughout the fields of memories, only catching short glances of each of them.
Then she heard a sound of crackling, she stopped in her tracks and froze in fear. She glanced left and right looking for what it was but, nothing was there. She took a nervous step forward, as she did the floor under her suddenly turned a pitch black, she screamed as she fell into the darkness. ______________________________________________________________________________
She landed on the ground with a thud, she rubbed her head and got herself up. Ow, my head... she looked above her to see a faint glow of light. How did I get down here anyway? Just then the rings of laughter filled the air, Twilight looked to her sides seeing nothing.
“Who’s there!” She demanded. Another roll of laughter filled the air. She looked back up to see a small figure blocking most of the light from above.
“So you managed to find me?” The figure expanded its wings and slowly descended into the pit. Twilight recognized the voice and replied, “Nightmare Moon?” “Correct my darling. I do hope you have a plan, because you stand no chance against me.” She landed in front of Twilight, a wicked smile stretched wide across her face.
She looked like she during their last confrontation, but... there was something off about her appearance. Something more sinister, it was in her eyes, they were no longer a faint blue, they were completely black. Her mane too had lost the lighter shade of blue they once were, but was now a dark purple.
Twilight could feel the energy around her slowly increase more and more, Twilight looked at Nightmare Moon’s face, her pupils slowly dilated more and more as her energy and smile got bigger. “Now, what is it you want exactly?” She asked in a calm tone, but Twilight could hear the malice in her voice.
As if she would snap at any moment.
Twilight replied with whatever confidence she had left, “I am here to stop you.” Nightmare just stared at her with the same smile. Her eye twitched slightly, she then burst out in laughter, it was so loud that it shook every bone in Twilight’s body, soon the very ground itself trembled to it.
Then Nightmare stopped, everything was calm again. “Stop me? I’m afraid that won’t be happening dear.” She charged straight at Twilight in what seemed like a blink of an eye. She fired a beam right at Twilight that sent her flying back. She skid across the ground.
“Do you still plan on fighting? It will only lead to your demise.” Nightmare asked. Twilight got up from the ground panting, “Yes, I can’t afford to let you escape, I can’t let my friends down.” “Heh, pathetic.” She replied.
Twilight fired multiple shots at Nightmare which were all deflected by a shield that Nightmare made. The shield died down after the bullets fired and Nightmare jumped to the side and fired a ray of blue light that Twilight quickly dodged in time to avoid it.
Twilight quickly tired from avoiding Nightmares endless barrage of magic. Twilight managed to fire a few more shots before she was totally spent. I don't think i can keep this up much longer.
Twilight focused the last of her energy into one final shot, she fired straight at Nightmare Moon who stood in spot. The impact of the blast caused an explosion that engulfed Nightmare, she let out an earpiece scream that soon died down. Smoke covered the entire area, Twilight coughed and covered her eyes to prevent the smoke from getting into it.
The smoke began to die down, Twilight opened her eyes and looked beyond her. She gasped once the smoke faded away. Nightmare was nowhere to be seen, “Where did she go!?” Just then she heard from behind.
“Right behind you.” She quickly darted around her, Nightmare Moon was completely unscratched. Before Twilight had a chance to react Nightmare fired a ray of electricity at Twilight, she flew back before skidding across the ground and then collapsed against her will.
Twilight’s entire body shook from the impact of the blast, dark sparks continued to move around her body. Nightmare Moon stood tall and mighty over Twilight like a giant, she smiled in triumph.
“Well that was pathetic, wasn’t it.” She laughed. Twilight glared at Nightmare Moon. “Don’t you see fool, I cannot be defeated by the likes of you. I believe my time to leave is now.” Nightmare Moon turned her back on Twilight and walked away. Twilight’s face twisted in rage, “Why are you doing this! What do you have to gain from this?”
Nightmare stopped in her tracks, remaining in place for a short moment, “What do I have to gain from this...” again the energy from Nightmare Moon overwhelmed Twilight. She turned her head to Twilight, her eyes glew a dark purple and she glared at her and her mane became a dark black.
Sweat began to roll down Twilight’s face from the sheer power of her being alone. Suddenly the ground began to shake, Nightmare Moon stood right above Twilight as if suddenly. Her horn glew a pitch black as lightning bounced off of it.
Twilight covered her face to brace the impact, but nothing happened. She looked up to see that Nightmare had gone back to normal.
“For years I had to watch as my sister took all the credit for what I did! I was the one who kept Equestria safe from harm, yet she took all the credit, they all loved her while I was left in the dark. Then the ponies, they showed no respect for the night. The anger and the rage of both my sister and these pathetic ponies drove me insane, the emotions of hate and rage, they changed me. For the better, I had become a new being, I could control the very forces of nature itself, something that not even my sister was able to do. She had to attack me head on, she defeated me, but only because I was weak, these new found powers of which I hadn’t fully grasped yet.”
Her expression got darker, more angrier. “Then she did the unthinkable, she banished me to the moon for an eternity. Do you know what that was like, spending day after day in complete darkness, being alone. Then you realize what you did wrong, you hope that you can be forgiven, yet you never are. Then when I came back once again I was able to cast the world into endless night. Then you...”
She growled, suddenly she was changing back to what she was just moments ago, her eyes were once again purple, her mane became a dark black, and the tip of her horn formed a black ball that became bigger and bigger by the second.
“Then you and your pathetic friends stormed in and ruined all of it, sealed me into the mind of Luna, and ruined me. You were the ones who pushed me over the edge, I was yet again sealed away. Now none of that matters, for now I will be freed from here.”
Twilight was dumbfounded by this response, “Is that all you want!? To get revenge on Celestia and then make it night again?” Nightmare Moon laughed, “Of course not, i'm not out to make it eternal night again...”
“I’m out for blood.”
These words struck through Twilight’s ears. She stared at Nightmare Moon in shock unable to speak, Nightmare sighed, “Well, my time to leave is now. Goodbye Twilight Sparkle.” The ball around her horn began to shake around at uncontrollable speeds, then as if in slow motion, the ball flew down at Twilight, she screamed before everything went black.
Twilight... A faint voice called out to Twilight. Twilight’s eyes groggily opened, the smudged face of Luna was in her vision. Her eyes closed again. Twilight... the voice called out again. Twilight opened her eyes again, this time her vision more clear. She was back in the library, she sat up rubbing the side of her head.
“How did I get back here?” She groaned. “The spells effects came off when Nightmare Moon defeated you.” Luna replied. Just then Twilight remembered the fight she was just in and how easily defeated she was, she bowed her head down in shame.
“I’m sorry Luna,” She whimpered, “Not only have I failed you, but I have failed Celestia, I have failed my friends...” She began to cry, “Most of all, I failed all of Equastria.” She buried her face in the ground pounding her hoof on the ground.
Luna walked over to Twilight and placed a hoof on her shoulder, Twilight looked up, tears streamed down her face. “It’ll be alright Twilight, you will find another way. I believe in you.” Twilight wiped the side of her face and smiled.
Suddenly Luna took a step back wobbling around the floor, she grunted and put a hoof on her forehead. Twilight ran over to her, “Are you ok princess?” Twilight asked. Luna huffed heavily, “I don’t know what's going on.” She replied, sweat began pouring down her face.
“Hold on Luna, I have a spell that can help.” Twilight’s prepared a spell as her horn glew a green aurora, but then Luna collapsed on the ground she let out a moan of pain, she pounded both of her hooves to her head. “Luna!” Twilight yelled in surprise.
Luna could barely speak, “I-It’s fi-fine...” she let out another moan, then the moan turned into screaming. “Luna!” Twilight yelled. Suddenly sparks began popping from the ground around Luna, then small flames of the color blue, then as if in an instant Luna was engulfed in the blue flames. Her screaming boomed through the walls of the library.
“Luna, what's going on?” Twilight used her magic to create water and sent it at the flames, but the water instantly disintegrated by the flames. Twilight panicked and tried using other elemental spells but nothing was working. Soon the screaming began to fade, Twilight began to cry fearing the worst.
Then she stopped crying when she heard what sounded like a faint chuckle, “Luna?” Twilight asked, then the chuckling turned into laughter. Twilight’s body shook at the sound of it, the laughing was not Luna’s it was Nightmare Moon’s. A gust of wind blew through the fire, putting out the torches that surrounded the library, the only thing that kept the room lit was the flames of the fire.
Through the flames a pair of eyes and a smile appeared, the floating pair got closer and closer to Twilight, she could see Nightmare’s face through the ripples of the flames. Twilight backed away and prepared a spell for attack. Nightmare walked right through the flames, none of them touching or burning her.
“Well hello darling.” She said. Twilight yelled and fired a blast of light at her but the blast too disintegrated by the flames. “I was hoping that the blast killed you, but you don’t always get what you want.” She laughed.
“What did you do with Luna.” Twilight demanded. “Oh trust me, she’s long gone.” She laughed again. She examined the room that surrounded her, smiling at the view. “Well heres something new.” She commented, she looked down to the book that Luna had used and kicked it under her into the fire, engulfing it instantly.
“Hey, that was important.” Twilight stated. “Oh I know.” Nightmare remarked. Using her magic she made every book fly off from their shelves and into the flames, they were all eaten instantly. “Well now,” Nightmare smiled, “I believe my time to strike has come, goodbye Twilight Sparkle.”
Twilight prepared a spell for attack, but nothing happened, her body couldn’t move. She opened her mouth to speak but it too did not move. “Surprised?” Nightmare asked. “Lets just say i’ve found a new way to cast spells.”
Twilight began to topple over to the side and her eyes got heavy, the last thing she saw before blacking out was that of Nightmare firing at the roof above her.
“Gee, I wonder what's taking them so long.” Applejack said concerned. The others waited upstairs for Twilight and Luna to return. “Now, now Applejack, let them take their time. We wouldn’t want to rush anything would we.” Rarity replied. Rainbow Dash flew over to the wall on the side of the room and inspected it, feeling the wall with her hoofs. “Well unlike you I can’t wait, this is getting boring. I’m going down there to see what’s taking them so long.”
Just then the room shook around them, the girls screamed as Fluttershy hid under the bed. “W-w-what’s going on!” Applejack yelled. “T-t-t-t-his i-i-i-s f-f-f-un.” Pinkie Pie commented, the shaking moved her across the bedroom floor. Then the shaking stopped, the girls got back up from the ground.
“Ok thats it!” Rainbow Dash yelled, “Im going in!” she hit at the random bricks embedded into the wall before one of them pushed in, the passage in the wall opened up again. “Come on girls!” Rainbow Dash commanded, she flew down the stairs and then Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie followed suit.
Fluttershy poked her head out from under the bed, “Ok, you guys go on without me, i'll catch up.” Rainbow Dash appeared in front of the bed making Fluttershy jump, she nudged her way back under the bed. “Oh no you don’t.” Rainbow Dash said, she dragged Fluttershy out from under the bed and chucked her down the stairs.
The girls ran through the corridors of the passage and into the Library, the entire room was engulfed in darkness, except for a beam of light from the moon that protruded from the crater in the ceiling. Twilight laid in the center of the floor under the light in clear view.
“Twilight, get up!” Applejack yelled shaking her, but she got no reply. “Blast! She’s out cold, girls we need to get her upstairs quick!” The girls nodded and grabbed Twilight, they left the library and headed back up the stairs.
A full moon lit up the night sky, its rays shined on the quiet city of Canterlot, meanwhile at the castle a small group of Soldiers were settled at the mouth of the castle gates, most wandered left and right in rhythm patrolling the endless night. The silence of the night was interrupted by the calls of a soldier, “Hey guys, come check this out!” The other soldiers left the front gate to the source of the call. All of them gathered around crater that was near the side of the castles wall.
“We better alert the others about this!” One of the soldiers yelled, suddenly a gust of wind shot out of the hole, following it was the blur of what looked like alicorn. The soldiers jumped back in shock and looked up to the sky to see the alicorn flying down at them.
“All soldiers ahead, do not let the enemy make you falter!” A group of unicorns fired multiple shots at the alicorn that flew through the airs of the castle’s ground. Although the groups best efforts all their shots were deflected by a forcefield, it fired a blast at the unicorns that drove into the ground. The unicorns stopped to stare at the crater it made, suddenly from the ground black vines shot out entangling all the unicorns in its thorns.
The alicorn landed on the ground in front of the group of soldiers, who were screaming from the pain of the thorns that dug into their flesh. The moon reflected off of the alicorn’s mane, revealing it to be Nightmare Moon, the soldiers were in shock at the sight.
“Night-Nightmare moon...” One of them sputtered. The others gasped or screamed in shock. Nightmare smiled, “Surprised to see me I assume?” The soldier tried to reply but he would choke on his words. “Hush now,” Nightmare said calmly, “The more you struggle the deeper the thorns will grow.” The soldier opened his mouth but before any words could escape his tongue his eyes rolled into the back of his head and then closed. Soon after the same happened to the other soldiers, “It will be all over soon.” Nightmare assured to the bodies that the vines had collected which were now retracting into the ground.
Nightmare Moon stood in front of the mighty wall that protected the castle from the dangers of Equestria. “Oh how long it’s been since i’ve seen this place... It will be a pleasure to see it burn.” Nightmare Moon laughed for a quick moment before regaining focus.
She blast a hole through the wall, the impact kicked the dust from the ground and scattered it in the air. The large majority of soldiers ran around the radius of the door in an instant. One of the soldiers yelled out to the others in command, “Do not attack until the enemy shows itself!” He ordered.
As the dust began to clear up the silhouette of Nightmare Moon came into view, although they were not aware that it was her. The pony barked more orders, “Prepare for fire!” Many of the unicorns prepared their spells as the earth ponies and pegasus readied their weapons. The pony looked to his his ranks, “FIRE!” He yelled.
The soldiers unloaded all their tricks at Nightmare Moon, vast amount of spells, arrows, and spears flung at the silhouette, more and more dust filled the air from the attacks. After over a minute of non stop attack the soldier yelled to the others. “Cease fire, that should've taken care of the intruder!” Just then the soldier collapsed on the ground in an instant.
A few of the soldiers left their formation to aid him, “Sarge! Are you ok?” one of them asked in shock. Another one of the soldiers checked for a pulse before shaking his head, “He’s dead guys, theres no point of trying to save him.”
Another one of the soldiers gritted his teeth and looked at the wall, “What happened? No one came through the door and I didn’t see any spells being used. How did the intruder do that!?” The question was never answered for another scream erupted from the crowd.
A short array of black lightning struck down multiple soldiers around the gate, screams followed their hits. The dust finally settled down, Nightmare Moon walked through the gap that had formed in the doors. “Fire!” Soldiers yelled.
Nightmare Moon carsley launched a large cloud of lightning at all weapons and spells that came into her path. Soon soldiers from all over the castle grounds surrounded her, she again created clouds of lightning that quickly disposed of them.
Only in moments the grounds of the castle was cleared out of any remaining soldiers, Nightmare Moon casually strolled through the rows of bodies that littered the castle grounds. She made her way to the double doors that led to the insides of the castle.
She fired a hole through the wall that made the castle itself shake, within seconds more waves of soldiers charged down from stairs and doors. Following was the yells of “CHARGE!” or “Get Nightmare Moon!” while some panicked and retreated.
Nightmare Moon sighed, “Imbeciles...” She muttered to herself.
She was completely surrounded within a minute, she turned around to all the soldiers and smiled. She opened her mouth and began to scream, getting louder and louder to what seemed like impossible levels. The soldiers all around began fainting from the screech, and soon all of them were too out for the count.
She laughed and flew to the stairs, she made a swift land on the ground and began dashing up them, any soldiers near her charged for attack, she simply fired blasts at them finishing them off quickly.
“I do not have time for such nonsense, I have a sister to see.”
