Prologue
A long time ago in the land of Equestria, three Alicorns ruled the land. Princess Celestia, Prince Drake, and Princess Luna. Celestia being the oldest, took on the majority of the responsibilities as ruler. Both Drake and Luna, being significantly younger, had very little responsibilities. They spent most of their time playing and frolicking outside their castle. When night came and they all fell asleep, Luna connected all their dreams, to allow them all to continue to have fun.Both Drake and Luna's friendship grew as the years went by. As they both grew up, they took on more ruling responsibilities. Luna took on her responsibilities as being princess of the night and protector of dreams. Although Drake became the royal ambassador and diplomat for Equestria, and often was mediator between Earth Ponies, Pegasi, and Unicorns, he has another job. He had enough power to raise the sun and moon, and could also enter dreams. This allowed his sisters to take some off days. He also had to mediate between his sisters or Luna had to mediate between him and Celestia. Though Drake and Luna got along perfectly fine, they often clashed with Celestia. Celestia was often very controlling and made herself a hero to Equestria, often overlooking Drake and Luna, the latter easily offended by her sister's actions. Drake started to get on to Celestia's for her actions, but Celestia would hear none of it. Celestia often threatened to take Drake's magic, leading Drake to put small pockets of his magic in items in his room if the occasion called for it. It came to a climax when Drake disobeyed her regarding an argument between some Unicorns and Pegasi. Drake felt it was his royal duty to mediate. It went downhill and Celestia noticed very quickly. Celestia told him she would talk to him the next day in the throne room at noon. When Drake came the next day at noon, he was surprised that Celestia wasn't there. He went looking for her. He found her in her room making a magical potion. When Drake came in and inquired about it, he immediately recognized enough ingredients to realize it was a nightmare potion. The potion would turn anypony into a nightmare. When Drake confronted her about it, she caught him off guard by blasting him. She effectively took all his magic for her own. She then used her magic to banish the helpless Drake from Equestria for a thousand years. Right after that happened, Luna, who was walking by, heard the commotion. Celestia quickly used her and Drake's magic to cast a spell that caused Luna to forget Drake. Later that night while dining with Luna, Celestia put the potion in Luna's drink. This caused Luna to become Nightmare Moon. Then Celestia used the Elements of Harmony to banish Luna to the moon. Then Celestia established herself as Equestria's hero and made sure that Drake was forgotten in history, convinced he would never return again.
Banishment
After Drake had been banished, he found himself at the edge of Equestria. He tried several times to walk back in but was continuously bounced back by an invisible shield. He miserably walked day and night to the nearest kingdom, which was Unicornia. There he found a cloak that hid his Alicorn wings. For the first two years, Drake adapted to living as a regular pony. He then slaved for years working his way up through the ranks. He eventually befriended the Unicornia king, Zep. Zep was famous for his large snow globe collection. Zep was also famous for building his castle in the form of a snow globe. It didn't take Drake long after to become Zep's royal advisor. Drake enjoyed doing low royal duties, which gave him a sense of purpose. His friendship with Zep grew as the years went by. Drake helped Zep accomplish having the world's largest snow globe collection. When Zep retired, Drake moved on from Unicornia to find a new place to help succeed. He walked for many weeks until he found a small town on a bay. For several years, Drake watched the town flourish and prosper from his house that was just outside the town. He became a legend in the town for his historic knowledge and fighting abilities, which he used to keep the town safe for years. Dake befriended the local historian and helped him with the town's historical records. After a couple of decades, Drake left the town and roamed the civilizations outside Equestria. He made plenty of friends, only to move on when they retired. He enjoyed the time with his friends, but constantly yearned for the day he could return to Equestria. While roaming, Drake returned to Unicornia to learn what was going on in Equestria. He was shocked to learn that Celestia had banished his sister, Luna, to the moon. This news made Drake want to return to Equestria even more. It also filled with anger that his oldest sister, Celestia, would do such a thing. Drake returned to the town by the bay, where he waited for years to hear any news of Luna's return. Every decade Drake would travel back to Unicornia to hear news of Equestria. Eventually he heard of Celestia's star student, Twilight Sparkle, which intrigued Drake. Celestia had never been known to be a teacher. After returning back to the town by the bay, Drake knew the time of his banishment was almost over. He thanked many of the families who had ancestors who originally knew Drake. He gave one last goodbye and told them, he would never forget them and told them he would return one day when they needed him the most. Drake then finally headed on his way back to Equestria. As Drake entered the land of Equestria, Drake checked out the nearest library to find out what Celestia had been doing for over a thousand years. During his two weeks of research, he was shocked to see that his name was never mentioned and that history said that Luna became jealous of Celestia. Drake was filled with more anger.
"Luna couldn't be jealous if she tried", Drake thought as he read through huge copies of Equestria's history. He was depressed to see that Celestia had made a new castle in Canterlot. He also saw that the old castle had been abandoned. For all Drake knew, the items he stored magic in, could be destroyed. Drake waited a year, gathering supplies to make the journey to the Everfree Forest. By the time had finished packing, he heard that the Crystal Empire had returned. After this, Drake adjusted his plans to his return to Canterlot, and headed towards the old abandoned castle he once called home.
Return to Power
Drake finally arrived to the castle he once lived in after over a thousand years. As he walked in, his name and tail regained it's fiery colors of red and orange. His body returned from near black to light grey. As he explored the ruins looking for his room, he was unaware that Twilight Sparkle and Spike were exploring as well. Spike fell behind Twilight and got lost. As Spike looked around, he saw an orange glow coming form a hallway, which he took for the lantern Twilight was using. Spike was surprised to see a gray Alicorn with a fiery red and orange mane and tail flickering like a torch searching through various things.
"You're… You're not Twilight!" Spike stuttered.
"You're absolutely right. You must be Spike, right? Twilight Sparkle's assistant?" Drake said, turning to Spike. Spike, bewildered, just nodded his head in surprise. Drake had read and heard enough of the Mane Six to know what they looked and sounded like.Spike became more confused when Drake told Spike to guess his name.
"Um … Dale?" Spike guessed.
"Haha, real funny", Drake said, "What's my name?"
"Earl?" Spike guessed again. Drake was now confused.
"Don't you recognize me. Surely Luna must have told Twilight of my existence. If not You must've heard it from history books. I'm Prince Drake, co-ruler of Equestria, alongside my sisters, Celestia and Luna." Drake said, looking at the young dragon. When Spike heard that, he fell down laughing.
"Hahahaha! Are you crazy?! There's only ever been TWO sisters running Equestria. Hahahaha!" Spike said laughing, clutching his sides. Drake stared at Spike, confused. Then Drake remembered that he was never mentioned in history. According to Equestria, Drake never existed.
"Well then, I guess that Celestia still has secrets that no one knows. Now, if I could only find… Aha!" Drake pulled out an old rotted chest. Spike looked on on wonder as Drake pulled out the the biggest ruby he had ever seen! Then Spike was horrified to see the ruby crumble to dust and inhaled by Drake. Suddenly, Drake's horn and wings began to glow. Drake could feel the magic flowing though his veins again. He could fly again. Spike looked on in bewilderment as Drake began grabbing more objects and inhaling his lost magic.
"Yes! I have been restored to my former power!" Drake said triumphantly, when he was done. Turning and looking at Spike, Drake said, "If you can keep quiet about this and get all known Alicorn Princesses to meet in three days, I will give you all the jewels you want." As he said this, Drake made a large chest of gems appear. Spike quickly agreed and quickly found Twilight Sparkle. It didn't take long for Spike to convince Twilight to have all Alicorns meet in three days for their monthly meeting. Three days gave Drake plenty of time to plan his arrival back to the throne. He stayed the night at the castle, only to be awoken once by Discord, who was curious about the magic influx he felt. It didn't take long for Drake to convince Discord to keep quiet about his plans. In fact Discord liked the plans so much, he wouldn't want to interfere. Once the Alicorns had gathered, Spike secretly sent Drake a message. Drake had Spike then send a message to Celestia. When Celestia read it, she gasped, and the message hit the floor. The message read, "My dearest Celest, did you really think I wouldn't return. No, I've been waiting over a thousand years for my return. I'm back and I'm ready to do something about it. Your dearest brother" The message confused the other princesses, who were unaware that Drake called Celestia, "Celest" or knew he existed. They assumed it was some villain messing with her. Celestia quickly ordered for Canterlot to be locked down, unaware that Drake was already in Canterlot. As Drake approached the castle, he used a sleeping spell to put the guards to sleep. As Drake made his way through the castle to the throne room, he ran into Shining Armor.
"Well, well, well" Drake started, "if it isn't the greatly underappreciated Shining Armor, whose potential is completely overlooked."
"I don't know who you are", Shining Armor,replied, "and I don't know what you're talking about, but I do know this. You are trespassing on the royal capital of Equestria."
"How can I be trespassing if I'm royalty?" Drake asked, "Also, aren't you a prince?"
"Yes", Shining Armor replied, confused.
"Then why don't you have wings yet?" Drake asked.
"Look, I don't know who you are, but you are not going to disturb the princesse!" Shining Armor responded, lowering his horn and charging Drake. He didn't get within a couple of feet of Drake, before Drake blasted him back with a powerful beam of energy from Drake's horn. Making sure Shining Armor was ok, Drake continued towards the throne room. Outside the throne room, Drake was met with about twenty or so guards in front of a barricaded door. Smiling, Drake lowered his horn and fired a powerful blast that blew the doors open, knocking the guards down. To Celestia's horror, Drake stepped through the smoking debris of the throne room doors.
"I'm back", Drake said triumphantly laughing, "it's good to be back dear sisters. Celestia, I see you allowed two new Alicorns. You're a little young to think of replacements" As Drake looked around, he noticed that Luna was surprised as everyone else. Looking closely at Luna, Drake saw that his magic that Celestia had stolen, was being used as a spell to prevent Luna from recognizing him! Looking at the Alicorns, Drake sighed, saying, "Since Celestia won't introduce me, let me introduce myself. I am Prince Drake, the third ruler of Equestria. Celestia, my own sister, cast a spell on my sister, Luna, which prevents her from recognizing me! And then unfairly banished Luna to the moon!" Drake lowered his horn and recovered the last of his magic from Luna, who fell to the ground asleep. After a moment, Luna began to wake up, and quickly noticed Drake.
"Drake, is that you?" Luna asked, as her memories of Drake returned.
"Yes it's me my dear Luna", Drake answered, "it's been too long since I've seen you." Now turning to horrified Celestia, Drake said, "Why don't you share what happened over a thousand years ago, or is your ego still as big as I remember."
Celestia quickly turned grim, saying, "Why don't you leave, you don't belong here anymore!" As she said this, Celestia sent a blast towards Drake that he easily parried with a blast of his own. Twilight, who still wasn't convinced that Drake belonged at Canterlot, sent a blast towards Drake. Drake quickly dodged Twilight's blast, quickly flew to the middle of the room. He sent a wave of magic towards the princesses that showed them what really happened over a thousand years ago.
After a while, Luna gathered her senses and angrily turned to her sister and said, "How could you have done this? We're brother and sister to you. Not only do you turn me to Nightmare Moon, but you banish our brother over a petty issue?!"
"I did it because Drake didn't listen. I never thought that he would come back. I wanted to be Equestria's grand hero, so I twisted some wording in a history book, so what?" Celestia said, trying to control the situation.
"I just want to be your brother again", Drake said, "but Luna and I get more responsibilities, and to be on equal footing with you."
Celestia, still too prideful to be deterred said, "I can't allow that to happen. Equestria has been fine without you." Drake then tried to convince Celestia for several minutes.
Finally, Drake sighed, saying, "I didn't want to do this, but you have forced me to use my final option. I challenge you to a duel, to decide if Luna and I can rule with you." Twilight, who was still confused, asked how a duel worked. Suddenly Discord appeared, interrupting them.
"Sorry to interrupt this precious family reunion", Discord started, pulling out an old picture from thin air, "but since Twilight Sparkle is confused, let me explain. An Alicorn duel is where two Alicorns shoot blasts directly at each other. The Alicorn with the strongest will usually is able to blast the other Alicorn down, rarely fatal. Then, the winning Alicorn does what it pleases."
"Well then", Drake said, "now that it is settled, let's have a duel outside Canterlot, outside the nearest town."
"That would be Ponyville", Twilight said.
"How does a duel in an hour and a half sound, Celestia?", Drake said and Celestia agreed to it. As the time of the duel approached, Celestia began to get nervous. She knew that Drake had always had the strongest will of them all. Drake was nervous as well, he was nervous that he wouldn't be able to harness his full power and would lose. He had spent the time catching up with Luna. And for all Luna knew, she could be spending time with Drake for the last time. When the time for the duel came, Drake and Celestia stood several feet apart. Both started to glow brightly as they called upon all their magic. Within seconds, both were standing in full Alicorn glory. Both shot powerful blasts of energy at each other, which met perfectly in the middle. The blasts met with so much force, that the ground shook and quaked under the Alicorns. For several minutes, Celestia and Drake seemed to be at a stalemate. But Drake's will was stronger, his determination to give Luna equal footing, and he didn't want to be banished again. His blast slowly inched towards Celestia. The blast eventually hit Celestia knocking her back several feet, which caused her to fall. When she regained her senses, Drake was standing over her in his regular Alicorn form. Reaching his hoof out to help her up, saying, "Have I won the right for Luna and I to be your equals, my dear Celest?" Celestia slowly nodded and Drake began to help her up. Drake and Luna helped her back to Ponyville, where Drake met the Mane Six. Drake and Luna immediately rekindled their lost friendship, which always grew with the years. With Drake and Luna taking equal royal duties, Equestria prospered so well, no other kingdom in history could compare. Drake gave Shining Armor a pair of wings to complete his title of prince. And after a couple of months, they had all forgotten about the banishment, and became great friends for moons to come.
