A Sudden Invitation

View Online

It was a normal winter day in Ponyville. The birds were chirping, the animals were hibernating, and Twilight was reading peacefully in her little library.

It was the perfect winter day for her to do some reading and finish up her almost endless list of books. It was quite windy outside and the air was colder than ever, thus giving Twilight the perfect opportunity to read in silence.

But before she could finish reading one of her books she would hear-

THUD!

That.

The unicorn would quickly run over to the door to see what was going on, before realizing what probably caused that thud.

And with a small creak of the door she would be proven right.

It was Derpy! With her mail carrier on her.

“Sorry, Twilight,” Derpy said as she got up and brushed herself off.

“Oh, it's not a big deal!” Twilight said. It had practically become a routine for Derpy to crash in with her weekly mail delivery, almost always crashing somewhere near her house.

It was an anomaly on how Derpy always came out with barely any bruises, but before Twilight could think about it her train of thought would be interrupted by a slight nudge from Derpy.

“Here you go, Twilight!” Derpy said before rummaging through her mail carrier and taking out five envelopes and a few magazines with her mouth.

“Ah! Thank you, Derpy!” Twilight would say as she levitated the items out of her maw.

“Oh, it's nothing! You have a good day Miss Twilight!” Derpy said with a wave and a smile as she flew off.

“You too!” Twilight would shout before waving back.

She then would go back into her house, curious about what she had got this week.

She would place down the items on her table and check them out, almost all of them being the same except one.

With closer inspection she would notice who this was from, her eyes widening as she read the name.

‘From Moondancer.’

Ok, yes she may have rekindled her relationship with Moondancer but…

There was something about her that made Twilight's heart want to jump out of its chest and her face go red in… whatever feeling this was!

She would quickly try to hide these thoughts, ‘Nothing bad is going to happen Twilight..’ She thought as she ripped open the thin, glossy envelope.

She then would open up the long letter inside it, and it read as so.

‘I was wondering if You could hang out with me and the rest of our friends for a few days. We were just gonna go check out a few places and I thought it would be great if you came, we were thinking about going tomorrow… only if you want to, though.’

‘From, Moondancer.’

This made Twilight even more worried; she had definitely not expected this and it only made that feeling in her chest worse.

She tried to wonder what she would do, or she would if it wasn't for Spike finally walking downstairs, completely snapping her out of her nervous trance with a small wave.

“Heyy Twilight..” Spike had drowsily said, almost immediately noticing her not so happy expression.

“What's wrong?”Spike said as he walked over to Twilight to get a closer look.

“OH! It's nothing Spike! Shouldn't you be in bed by now?” She would say, a small line of sweat starting to flow down Twilight's forehead.

“Twilight… It's 8 AM.” Spike said with an eyebrow raised.

With a sigh and a small blush... She would finally reveal the truth.

“Well… it's about Moondancer, she wants me to come back to Canterlot for a few days and hang out with the rest of my Canterlot friends there, but I keep getting this weird warm feeling whenever I hear about her and… I don’t know why!” Twilight would blurt out.

It would take a bit for Spike to process what she had said, but when he did he let out a small That's It?” with an unamused face.
Twilight would nod, a slightly annoyed expression appearing on her face as she realized what he had said.

“It's just, I don't know if I should go or not! On one hoof if I don't come Moondancer might get mad again, but if I do come what if my feelings get in the way of our friendship and having a good time! What if she notices it and gains those same feelings too!” Twilight would blurt out again, hoping this would get Spike to understand.

Spike would take a sigh as his expression would soften after hearing the rest of Twilights ramble.

“Look... I may not have been there but Moondancer has changed! And I bet she wouldn't get mad over you not coming! ” Spike said.

“If you feel uncomfortable being around her just send a letter saying no, it's your choice.” Spike would add.

This would put Twilight at ease, a sigh of relief coming out of her as she listened.

“I’ll… try to think about it, thank you Spike.” Twilight said, a small smile forming as she went to get a glass of water.

“Glad I could help.” Spike would say, a smile of his own appearing as he grabbed one of the books near the shelves and started to read.

“Hey, shouldn't you have taken your bath by now? I didn't hear any water running.” Twilight would say, her voice half teasing and half serious.

“Darn,” Spike muttered under his breath as he walked back up the steps.

A small breath would come out of Twilight as she watched him walk up the steps, now she could try to... Think more clearly about the situation.

Yeah, Spike's words had helped her relax.. but apart of Twilight was still worrying.

‘She didn't want to leave Moondancer again, but maybe she needed to put more strength in here, she's surely grown from that day, and… so have you!’ Twilight thought as she started to pace around the room.

‘That still doesn't explain that weird feeling I get around her… Maybe I'm just, still getting used to that whole… party incident... Yeah! Maybe I should get out of my shell and… do this... Thing.” Twilight thought, trying to get rid of those more.. unsure thoughts out of her head.

“It's just a strange… heart melting… face redding… feeling, what's the worse that could... Happen!”

And with those thoughts in mind, she had made her decision… She was gonna hang out with Moondancer.

Meeting Up With Familar Faces

Twilight would start to go through her routine, yes she probably should have done these things earlier but… she was dealing with some things at the moment.

So with a quick brush of her teeth, a shower, and a light spray of some old perfume she never bothered using before, she would be ready to hit the town and go to Canterlot.

“Uhh… Twilight, shouldn't you pack some items first?” Spike said as he walked down the stairs, this time looking more freshened up.

“Ah! I almost forgot!” Twilight said before running off to grab something.

The thing she would grab was an old suitcase, some dust hiding around its corners and other small places

She then would quickly run off and once again look for something, this time coming back with a small checklist.

“Alright, this should have all I need!” Twilight said as she began to levitate all the items needed, toothbrushes and toothpaste, some spare bits, some novels, and a few snacks.

“Done!” Twilight said with a smile as she zipped up the suitcase and grabbed her main pouch, one that was filled to the brim with bits.

“Alright, I'll see you later Spike! Love you!” Twilight said before giving him a small peck on the cheek.

“Hey!” Spike said in fake annoyance, a small giggle accompanying him as well.

This brought a small chuckle and a smile out of Twilight, Spike would have the same reaction.

“See you later Spike!” Twilight said as she would close the door.

“See ya!” Spike said.

A sigh would come out of Twilight before locking the door, was she really gonna do this… yes she was! No backing down now!

So she would start to walk, waving to pedestrians who happened to stand there, making small talk with the other strollers and pegasi, and even stopping to get a small snack on the way there as well.

She would happily crunch on her newly acquired peanuts, this calming her small feelings of fear and possible regret… to the point where she couldn't notice the two other ponies walking in her direction.

“Ah!” Twilight said as she tried to regain her vision, her eyes starting to go unfocused from the bump.

“Ow!” said the two other ponies, gaining that same problem as well.

As Twilight's vision slowly became more clear she would start to recognize the two ponies who had bumped into her.

One of them had a baby pink mane and a white coat, while the other had a deep blue coat and a darker blue streak.

As her vision cleared the realization would hit her like a ton of bricks.

It was Minuette and Twinkleshine!

“That's one way of saying hello.” Twinkleshine would mutter, a small smirk appearing on her lips as she said it.

“Oh! I'm so sorry I didn't notice you there! I got kinda distracted and..!” Twilight would say, quickly trying to apologize… before getting shushed by Minuette.

“Pfft! It's alright Twilight, not like it's the first time something like this happened.” Minuette said with a chuckle, which resulted in a small blush appearing on Twilight's cheeks.

As they started to get off the ground, Twilight would speak up again.

“So.. what are you guys doing here?” She would ask.

“Minuette couldn’t wait to meet you again, so she decided to bring you an early visit… and brought me along with her.” Twinkleshine said.

“We also wanted to check up on you and see if you were... you know, coming!” Minuette said.

“So… you coming?” Twinkleshine said, her tone changing into a slightly more… serious one.

“….”

“Of course!” Twilight said, a small smile coming with it as well.
“YES!” Minuette shouted with glee, her already wide smile had somehow widened even more.

Before any of the other unicorns could say anything, Minuette was already running off to the train station.

“Come on slowpokes! We're gonna miss our ticket!” Minuette would shout, which would result in an eye roll from Twinkleshine.

“Wait for us!” Twinkleshine said before running after her, Twilight quickly followed suit.

“Woah, she hasn't changed a bit!” Twinkleshine muttered in between gasps of air.

“Yeah, she really hasn't!” Twilight said with a slight nod.

They finally arrived at the train station, Minuette was currently paying the conductor while Twilight and Twinkleshine caught their breath.

“Alright! We're good to go!” Minuette said as she hopped on the train.
“Yes!” Twinkleshine said as she stepped into the train, Twilight quickly followed suit.

They would all go to their respective spots, Twinkleshine decided to sit on one of the many couches available there, Minuette would grab one of the untaken magazines before sitting next to Twinkleshine.

Twilight would be the last one to join the couch, this time she would look out the window and watch the scenery outside.

Silence filled the air as they all got comfortable, Well… there was silence until Minuette decided to break it.

“...Do you guys wanna know the story about how the patient tried to kiss me once?” Minuette said casually, acting like it wasn't the strangest sentence she hasn't said.

“Pffft! You have to be bluffing!” Twinkleshine said.

“Nope!” Minuette replied.

“...Could you at least give us some more... You know… context!” Twinkleshine said, her mouth slightly a gap.
“Ok… so there was this stallion that had this big cavity in his mouth, so we had to give him some laughing gas, 10 minutes later… he's spilling his guts and told all of his secrets to me!”

“...No way! What did he say?”

As the two mares continued to talk, Twilight would slowly start to drift off into her thoughts… the sound of their talking quickly became white noise to the unicorn.

Apart of her couldn't believe she was gonna do this, to hang out with Moondancer while she was having these… strange feelings that's been plaguing her ever since the invite.

‘But she had to face her fears, she couldn't avoid this feeling forever… and visiting Moondancer and the rest of her friends would be nice! And visiting Canterlot, in general, would be nice too.’

‘Plus, she could always figure out why she's feeling this way on her visit!’

These thoughts of reassurance had comforted her, a small smile appeared on her face as she sunk into the couch she was sitting on.
And as she happily looked out the window and saw all the different terrains and townscapes, she would accidentally mutter something she... Didn't mean to mutter out.

“This.. is gonna be great.”
