Hey, guys, this is my first actual story that I decided to keep up, so constructive criticizm is welcome.

It was a peaceful day in Hyrule, birds were singing, flowers were blooming, it was the perfect day for a picnic! Tucked into a little corner of the kingdom, there was a lush green forest, filled with creatures that defy imagination. In this forest, there is a village, Kokiri Village. The little village was home to our protagonist, Link, though he doesn't know it yet. Our story starts on a sunny day, and Link was sleeping in as usual...

Running up to Link's treehouse, Saria saw something unusual. Keeping her eye on it, Saria looked in. Sure enough, Link was sound asleep. Deciding best to ask Link about what she saw on his deck, Saria tried to wake him up.

"Link!"

"LINK!"

"Wake up, sleepyhead!"

Link groaned as he rolled out of bed...and promptly landed on the floor. "Ow!" Link stood up, rubbing his head.

"Finally up, huh, Link?" said Saria, giggling.

"Ugh...what do you want, Saria..." Link groaned.

Saria picked up the little bundle she found on his doorstep.

"I was wondering if you knew what is?"

Link lookes over and, in true, groggy fashion, replied, "Well, it appears to be a sleeping, winged unicorn. You know, the usual." And with that, Link trudged off to start off on his day.

...Until a few seconds later when he realized what he just said.

Link came rushing back to the door, eyes wide.

"Um...Saria? What is that?"

Saria giggled, "I don't really know. I found it here when I came to wake you up."

Link again looked at the little pony. In Saria's arms was a tiny darkish blue pony with a sky blue mane. At the moment, the pony appeared to be sleeping.

Link reached a hand out to pet the little horse. "Is it a boy or a girl?"

Saria frowned a bit at that, "I don't really know. I suppose we'll have to find out in a bit. Look! It's waking up!"

True as Saria said, the little pony opened its eyes and looked at Link and Saria.

'It's...kinda cute,' thought Link.

The pony looked at Link thoughtfully, and then lept out of Saria's hands into Link's.

'OKAY OKAY VERY CUTE ABORT ABORT,' were the only real thoughts going through his head.

Of course, to Saria and the pony, it just looked like he froze up.

The pony looked at Saria. In a young, yet obviously female voice, the pony said, "Mama? Whass wong wif bwover?"

Saria paused for a second. On the one hand, she would absolutely adore having this little ball of cuteness as a daughter, if you could count what she had with Link a parenthood.

On the other hand, she had no real idea of how to care for this species. For all she know, she could end up hurting the little one more than helping her.

Back on the other hand though...

"Mama?"

Saria smiled. Surely it wouldn't hurt. "Yes, little one, I'm sure your brother will be just fine."

It was at this point that Link realized he needed to breathe.

With a rather large inhale, and oxygen in his system, Link said, "Saria? Are you sure-"

"Shush, Link. I am your mother now. And this adorable one will be staying here with you. My house is no place for a growing child."

Link, having already considered Saria as a mother figure, just decided to roll with it. "Okay, but what is she called?"

The little pony grinned at this, "I'm Woona!"

Saria tilted her head to the side, "so you're called Woona?"

The child looked frusterated, "No! Woona! Woona! Wif an Ehw!"

Link, just barely holding back snickers, said to Saria, "I *pfft* I think she means her name is Luna."

Saria smiled again. "Luna, huh? What a wonderful name!"

Luna looked content with that, and laid down in Link's hands for another nap.

Saria laughed outright at that. "Looks like she's the perfect match for you, sleepy head!"

Link mock-glared at her for that. "Oh, be quiet mom!"

Grinning, Saria tuned to leave. "Fine. No dinner for you then."

As she climbed down the ladder, she heard Links cries of 'I didn't mean it!' And couldn't help but smile.

Now she truly has a family of her own.

After he calmed down a bit, Link turned to face the newcomer. Luna was sitting on his bed patiently.

Grinning, Link approached his 'big brother' role with gusto.

"Alright, kiddo, house rules!" At this, Luna snapped to attention. Or...tried to, really. Due to her small stature, she really just ended up stumbling a bit.

Hiding a grin, Link continued. "First off! No loud noises when I'm trying to sleep! Also, for that matter, my food is mine and yours is yours! And finally, no wandering off on your own! Got it?"

Luna saluted, "Sir, yes sir!"

Grinning, Link picked up Luna. "Good. Now let's go grab some breakfast! I'm starved!"

Laughing, Luna pointed to the table, "Yay! Bwekfast ahoy!"

Grinning, Link walked her over to the table. They didn't know it then, but that was the start of a friendship that would burn through the ages.

Out the window, unseen by the two siblings, was a little fairy. This fairy immidiately flew off to the Great Deku Tree. The Tree was a massive, you guessed it, tree that watched over all of the Kokori.

Seeing the fairy fly towards him, the Tree extended a branch for her to land on.

"What is it, Navi?" The Tree asked, with centuries of wisdom behind his words.

"The boy has appeared to have found a companion! What should I do?"

The Tree just seemed to smile. "This is okay, my little fairy. It just means that you will have another friend in your journey. Go to them on the day we have selected. For now, allow them to enjoy their childhood."

The fairy nodded in understanding and flew off.

The Great Deku Tree seemed to think for a few seconds.

"I wonder how this companion will change the course of things..."

Bonding

Looking over at his new sister, Link felt...oddly happy. He grinned as he watched her rather messily eat her oatmeal.

Luna, already on her fifth bowl, was eating like there was no tomorrow. It was at this point that Link really looked over her appearance. She was a little dark blue winged unicorn, reaching no higher than his waist. Her mane was short, and sky blue, as was her tail. On her flank was a blotch of black with a crescent moon on it.

As he watched her eat her bowl, most of it ending up on her face, he prepared for the rest of the day.

Once Luna finished, Link got up and took her bowl. As he put it away, Link said, "Alright, Luna, get ready. Big brother Link is gonna show you around Kokiri Village."

"Yay!" Luna cheered, throwing her hooves into the air.

Grinning, Link turned back around to face Luna. "Alright, let's go!"

As he climbed down the ladder with Luna on his back, Link answered some of her questions.

"No, the moon and sun do that on their own."

"Yes, we have four, in fact. Farore, Din, Nayru, and Hylia."

"No, I don't think we'd be allowed to meet them."

Soon enough, they reached the main part of the village.

Link was about to introduce Luna to the other Kokiri, but one annoyingly familiar voice interrupted him.

"Hey, Mr. No-Fairy!"

Link sighed as he turned around to face none other than Mido, an annoying Kokiri who seemed to think that he was the most important of them all.

Turning to face Mido, Link noticed Luna shifting on his back, as if to get a better look.

Frowning, Mido pointed st Luna and said, "What's that? Is it some sort of sympathy card from the Great Deku Tree?"

Before he could retort, Link heard Luna speak up and say, "Shut up, Bwoobwud."

Confused, but deciding to roll with it, Link said, "Yeah, don't you have someone else to boss around?"

Fumed and confused, Mido opened his mouth to retort, but then Saria walked up behind them.

"And what exactly is going on here?" Saria said, in the most motherly voice she could muster.

"I...uhh...I'll just be going now." Face flushed, Mido turned tail and ran off.

Unable to hold up the facade any longer, Saria laughed.

Soon enough, all three of them were sprawled on the floor laughing.

After a while, all laughs out of their system, the trio got up from the ground.

Picking up Luna, Link asked Saria, "So, what are you doing here?"

Saria smiled as she responded, "Why, you need someone to help show Luna around."

Link grinned. "Well, let's be on our way, shall we?"

Luna cheered. "Yeah, wet's!"

Still smiling, Saria began to show them around town.

"Back there near the entrence is the Know-it-all brothers' house, and right across from it is Mido's house. Right next to your and Link's house is mine. And just past that is the Twins' house, and over near the entrence to the Great Deku Tree's cove is the store. It's a small village, but we all love it just the same."

Awes, but still curious about something, Luna asked, "Mommy? What's the Gweat Deku Twee?"

Saria looked at Luna before answering her question. "The Great Deku Tree is said to be the father of all the Kokiri."

Luna hummed. "So does that make him my gwanddaddy?"

Saria giggled at that. "I suppose so."

Luna, picking up steam, followed that question up with, "And if he's a twee, how did he make you?"

Saria looked thoughtful. "I don't know. You know, you're really smart for someone your age."

Luna grinned happily at that. "Fanks, Mommy!"

Deciding that his heart could not handle any more of this, Link spoke up. "Alright, Luna. Some days I'm going to have to be away for a bit, doing some work for some other Kokiri. When I'm out, I want you to go to one of the other Kokiri, and tell them that I would greatly appreciate it if they watched you for the day. Okay?"

Luna, not wanting to disappoint her brother, but also not wanting to leave him, said, "But can I pwease come wif you some days?"

Link grinned, "Sure, I can take you on some of the less dangerous ones."

Happy with this arrangement, Luna grinned and nodded.

Over the next few months, Luna mostly stayed by Link's side. When he did have to go out on errands, she mostly stayed with the store clerk. Because of this, the two ended up becoming rather good friends, and he even gave her a Reinforced Deku Shield. It was basically a normal Deku Shield, except this one could take more punishment, and it could withstand some fire.

On the days where she could go out with Link, he taught her everything he knew about swordfighting. Soon enough, Luna could protect herself with her shield, and a stick that Link had carved for her.

Sometimes, during the night, Luna would get bored, so she decided to experiment. During this time of boredom, she found out that she could use her horn to make stuff move around, among other things. Once, she accidentally woke Link up when she dropped a pot. This, however, led to even more questions.

"Hey big bwover?"

"Yeah Luna?"

"Why is it that whatevew I bweak just goes back to normew whenevew we weave the woom?"

"I...don't know, Luna. I don't know."

Along with Luna bringing up some interesting questions, Link noticed that, along with the appearence of Luna, his dreams have Ben less troubled. The young pony always seemed to be there guarding his dreams, but he dismissed that as a coincidence, or perhaps Luna was just so positive that Link couldn't help but be happier in her presence.

Over in the Cove of the Deku Tree, the old tree frowned. He could sense a great evil entering Hyrule.

"Navi...Navi come hither. I believe it is time to begin with our plan. Go find the boy and his little friend. I'm afraid that they must do what we cannot."

The Adventure Begins

Link looked around, startled. He was in an unfamiliar place, a field outside of a large, walled town. He headed the sound of hooves clopping, and turned to find a large white horse almost on top of him. Panicked, he lept out of the way just in time. He turned again to see the retreating figure of the horse, with what appeared to be two female figures on its back. One, the assumed driver, was a tall woman with white hair in silver gaurd's armor. The other was a young girl, apparently his age, with her hair hidden under an odd looking hat. The girl had one repetitive symbol on her dress and hat. Three golden triangles arranged into what appeared to be a larger triangle.

At the sound of more hooves, Link turned once more. This time, he was greeted with the sight of a terrifying man on a black horse right in front of him. The man was a large man with an odd green tint to his skin and an oddly pointy nose.

The man's horse reared onto its hind legs and Link covered his head with his arms in freight, missing a small, blue figure collide with the man.

Flying over to Link and Luna's house, Navi was hopeful that the Tree was right. She hoped that they really could save the world.

As she flew in through the door, she noticed one striking fact. They were both asleep!

"Hello, Luna! Link! Wake up! The Great Deku Tree wants to talk to you! Guys, get up!"

This spurred the kids into action! Action of rolling over in their sleep that is.

"Hey! C'mon!" Navi pouted. "Can Hyrule's destiny really depend on such a lazy couple of kids?"

This time, Link and Luna got up, though Luna seemed more spurred on by hunger.

Link, rubbing his groggy eyes, said to the fairy, "Huh? Who're you?"

Navi seemed pleased with herself, "You finally woke up! I'm Navi the fairy!"

As the two were talking, Luna made her way over to the kitchen area, and came back with a bowl of oatmeal clutched in her telekinetic grasp.

"A faiwy?" The young filly asked. "Does this mean big bwover finally got his faiwy companion?"

Navi seemed to look down at the youngster. "Yes, little one. The Great Deku Tree himself has asked me to be his companion from now on! Nice to meet you!"

Luna looked a bit reserved. "But...if you'we his companion, then what am I?"

Navi seemed to realize the folly of what she said. "Oh! Don't worry, little one. I'm not replacing you! I'm just here to help both of you out."

Luna noticeably cheered up at this. "Oh, okay, miss Navi! It's nice to meet you! I'm Woona, but I fink you alweady know dat."

Navi suddenly jumped in the air. "Oh! I just remembered! The Great Deku Tree has summoned you! Both of you! We'd better not keep him waiting!"

Link, finally out of his groggy stupor, seemed to realize what was happening. "Hmm...Luna? What do you think he wants?"

Luna grinned happily up at her brother. "I dunno!"

And with that, Luna grabbed her stick from where it was resting on the wall and trotted out the door. Sighing, Link followed.

Walking out onto the balcony, the trio saw Saria running up to them.

"Yahoo! Hi, Link! Hi Luna!"

"Hi, Mommy!" Luna cried, before jumping off the balcony and gliding down to the Kokiri.

Catching Luna, Saria smiled. "Hi, Lu! Did you cause your brother any trouble?"

Climbing down from his treehouse, Link heard Luna say, "No, but he did finally get his faiwy!"

Turning to Link, Saria grinned even wider. "Wow! A fairy! Looks like you finally got yours, Link! That's great! I'm so happy for you!"

At this, Navi decided to speak up, "Yes, and not only that, but the Great Deku Tree has summoned both of them!"

Saria looked mildly surprised. "Oh? Is that so? Both of you? That's quite an honor! Take care of your sister, okay, Link?"

Link nodded, and, with Luna in tow, walked off to the Great Deku Tree's cove.

Nearing the entrence to the Cove, the trio was stopped by none other than Mido.

"Hey, you two! Mr. No-Fairy and Ms. Lisp! What's your buisness with the Great Deku Tree? Without a fairy, and with that lisp, you two aren't even real Kokiri!"

Giggling, Luna grabbed Mido's chin with her magic, and directed his head towards Navi.

Shocked, Mido exclaimed, "What?! You actually have a fairy?! Did the Great Deku Tree actually summon you?"

Pouting, Mido stomped his foot. "Why would he summon the likes of you and not the great Mido?"

Glaring, Luna whapped him head with her stick. "Be quiet, Twixie! We aww know what you can do!"

Rubbing the sore spot where Luna hit him, Mido grumbled, "Again with the weird names... Anyway, I, Mido, forbid you to pass until you've yourselves properly equipped! How do you think you're going to help the Great Deku Tree without an actual sword and shield?"

Tilting her head to the side, Luna said, "But...you don't have any equipment..."

Flustered, Mido replied, "Well...yeah, but...but if you want to pass through here, you need to equip a sword and shield!"

Seeing the argument Luna was about to get into, Link whispered in her ear, "Come on, Lu. We should equip ourselves anyway."

Luna's head drooped, but she submitted with a nod.

Grinning, Link said, "Alright! Let's go get our stuff!"

Running off, the trio missed Mido saying, "Sheesh, will those two ever grow up?"

Walking back to the main part of the village, Link said, "Okay, Luna. I need to go get the Kokiri Sword, so could you-"

Luna interrupted with an indignant "No!" and hoped up onto Link's back.

Sighing, Link said, "Luna, you know the path there is dangerous."

Luna shook her head. "I don't cawe! If you can do it, so can I!"

Sighing with a shake of his head, Link said, "Luna, what are we going to do with you."

"Take me wif you?" Luna said, with a hopeful grin.

With a grin, Link said, "Fine. But you have to do exactly what I say, okay?"

Nodding furiously in agreement, Luna said, "Okay!"

Link grinned wider. "Alright, once we get through the tunnel, I want you to hop up onto my back. Once you're up there, you can keep a lookout for the boulders. Got it?"

"Got it!" Luna said, with a grin and a salute.

"All right!" Link proclaimed loudly, "Let's go!"

"Crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap!" Link definitely did not remember the maze to get to the Kokiri Sword being this difficult.

"Wink! Tuwn weft hewe!" Luna exclaimed, pointing with her hoof.

"That's what you said the last two times!" Link shouted, still running from the boulders.

Luna, pouting, said, "Yeah, but this time I know it's the wight tuwn!"

Deciding to trust his sister, Link turned left. "You'd better be right about this!"

And with that, Link ran head-long into a chest.

"See? I towd you!" Luna said triumphantly.

"Yeah. Right," Link said, shaking stars from his eyes.

Getting up and opening the chest, Link noticed an odd tune start to play in the background.

Reaching into the chest and grabbing the sword, Link followed his instincts. He held it up above his head.

At this, Luna couldn't help but say, "You got the Kokiwi Swowd! It's a hidden tweasuwe of the Kokiwi, but, as awways, you can bowwow it."

Sheithing the sword on his back and picking up Luna again, Link turned back to his nemesis that was the maze.

With a determined look, Link stepped forward.

About half an hour, and lots and lots of running later, Link and Luna finally made it to Link's house again.

"Alright," Link said, "now we just need to get me a shield."

Grinning, Luna took out her shield and an identical one. "I alweady took cawe of it."

Link, stunned, said, "How did you manage that?"

Luna giggled, "Weww, I know the shopkeepew weww, and I towd him we wewe going to hewp the Deku Twee, and he said," at this, Luna put on what she thought was a gruff voice, "Woona, you need to have bettew pwotection, hewe, wet me take youw stick." Luna dropped the voice, "And then he gave me my stick back, and I twied it owt, and it was just as stwong as youw swowd! And he awso gave me this shiewd. He said that you wewe going to need to pwotect youwsewf too."

Link was impressed. "Wow, that was really good foresight, Lu. Come on, Let's go help out the Deku Tree."

And with that, the trio headed over to the Deku Cove.

The Great Deku Tree (Part 1)

View Online

Walking up to the Great Deku Cove, Link and Luna soon spotted Mido.

Noticing them, Mido held up his hand. "I thought I told you, don't come back without a sword and shield!"

Giggling, Luna gestured to her and Link's equipment.

Noticing the gear for the first time, Mido was rather surprised. "Eh, what's that?! Is that a Reinforced Deku Shield?! How did you even get that? And is that the Kokiri Sword?! Good grief. Well, even with all that, a whimp is still a whimp, right? I, the great Mido, will never accept you as a true Kokiri!"

Blowing a raspberry, Luna crossed her fetlocks and huffed. Link patted her head reassuringly.

Ignoring them, Mido went on. "How did you two get to be the favorite of Saria and the Great Deku Tree? Huh?!"

Reluctantly, Mido moved out of the way, grumbling all the while.

Grinning up at Link, Luna pointed ahead, and with a cry of "Wet's go!" she trotted off to meet the Great Tree. Not one to be left behind, Link followed with a grin.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" Cried Luna, swinging her stick wildly at what appeared to be a giant piranha on a vine. After a bit of swinging, Luna finally hit the bulb with her stick, severing it from its roots.

"What was that?!" Luna asked frantically.

At this, Navi chimed in. "That was a Deku Baba! It may look withered, but it can hurt you if you get too close."

Link pointed to the dry stick that the Deku Baba seemed to have become. "And what's that?"

Navi, also looking at the stick, said, "That's a Deku Stick! They're pretty dry, so they make great torches!"

Link shook his head. "Let's hope there are no more surprises..."

Luna shot him a deadpanned look. "You know you'we just asking for twuble, wight?"

Walking up to th Deku Tree's grove, Navi spoke up. "Great Deku Tree...I'm back!"

The Great Deku Tree...'looked' up for lack of a better term. The Great Tree was a huge oak tree with what appeared to be a face etched into it. Its eyebrows were turned down at the ends, giving the impression that it was either concerned for you or amused at something. Its giant moustache was at least as large as ten Links, or twenty Lunas, stretched head to toe from one end to another.

With a great rumbling voice, the Tree spoke. "Oh...Navi...Thou hast returned...and with the young heroes...Luna, Link...Welcome..."

Luna looked concernd at the Tree's labored words. "Um...excuse me? Mistew Gweat Deku Twee? Awe you okay?"

The Tree seemed amused at the young pony's concern. "I shall be fine, young one...but listen close...listen to what I, the Deku Tree, am about to tell you. Link, thy slumber must have been restless for the past few moons. As the servants of evil gain strength, a vile cloud covers the land and causes nightmares to those sensitive to it...surely, thou hast felt it...Luna, for you, I shall gift thou with the knowledge of dreamwalking...it has come to mine understanding that thou hast already the understanding of it, but thou cannot yet grasp the true depths of it..."

With that, the Tree seemed to close its eyes in focus. Then, a ball of light exited the Tree from where the forhead would be. Said ball of light made a beeline for Luna. While at first a bit scared, Luna pressed her forhead against the ball, and it seemed to dissipate into her.

She kept her eyes closed for a few minutes after, only to open them with a new light in them. A deeper understanding of the world.

"Thank you, Gweat Deku Twee." Said the pony solemly, despite her lisp.

The Tree opened its eyes once again. "Link, Luna...the time has come to test thy courage...There are some useful artifacts that can be found within my trunk...beware, however...it would appear that some servants of evil have taken residence within myself...dost thou have the courage necessary to undertake this task?"

Luna looked at Link with a big grin on her face. Link grinned backend said, "Absolutely."

The Deku Tree's mouth then opened like a doorway. "Then enter, brave Link, cunning Luna...and thou too, Navi...Navi the fairy, thou must aid these two heroes in their quest...and when she speaks, please, listen to her words of wisdom..."

Link marched onward into the Deku Tree, and Luna followed not far behind, though with a more careful step.

Inside the tree, the trio was greeted with a large, cylindrical room with platforms and some vines hanging off some of them.

Luna looked around and saw what looked like little bulbs off to the sides of the room.

"Hey, what'we those?" Asked the little pony. She walked up to one, and suddenly, it grew longer, revealing itself to be a Deku Baba.

Determined not to let her fear get the better of her, Luna stood her ground. "I'm not afwaid of you, siwwy pwant!" And with that, the little pony raised her shield with her forehoof, waited for the bulb to strike, and struck it directly on the head when it did.

Luna, looking relieved, spotted some odd brown nuts on the ground.

"Hey, Navi? What'we thows?" Said Luna, pointing at the nuts.

Navi, flying over to the pony, said, "Those are Deku Nuts! If you throw them at an enemy, it'll flash and stun them! Just be sure to no get caught in the flash yourself!"

Luna nodded, picking up the nuts that the plant dropped. Turning to face her brother, who had killed the other plant and gotten some nuts himself, she noticed the spider web on the ground. Walking over to it, the little pony jumped on the web. Up and down and up and down and-

"Luna, you're going too high!" Link yelled, noticing his sister's antics.

"What?" Luna called down, too high to hear clearly. "Hang on, lemme come down!"

And with that, Luna angled herself towards a ledge and gliding to it.

Worried about his sister, Link scrambled up some nearby vines, and rushed over to her.

"Luna! Are you okay?" Link asked hurriedly.

"Yesh, I'm okay bwovew." Was the reply he got.

With a sigh of relief, Link said, "Well, don't do that again. Saria'd have my head if anything happened to you..."

Giggling, Luna pointed out the obvious to Link. "Bwovew, I think you fowgot to check beside me. I found a chest!"

Finally seeing the chest, Link exclaimed, "Nice job, Luna! Let's see what's inside..."

Opening the chest, Link found that he could barely see over the edge of it. Problem solving, the boy hopped up, braced his stomach on the rim of the chest, and reached inside.

Pulling out a small piece of parchment, Link held it up high triumphantly.

Giggling at her brother's antics, Luna said to him, "What is that, Wink?"

Looking at the parchment, Link groaned.

"What's wwong?" Asked Luna.

"It's a map of the dungeon...and it's pretty big..." Link said, groaning at all of the running they'd have to do.
