Stormy Night

One stormy night in Canterlot, every pony was closed up for the huge storm. It was the yearly storm in the middle of the year. Not too long after Winter Wrap Up happened around Equestria, one good hard rain was needed to help the newly springing flowers, trees, and all plant life. This did not make things easy for a small foal clinging on to her favorite doll. She looked around with sniffles in a darkened room. Suddenly a crack of lighting lit up the room and a clap of thunder is heard. The noise was so loud that it shook the whole house and the ground that it stood on. The rain was pounding heavily against the window panes. It was Just as another lightning bolt was seen by big purple eyes.

“SHINGING ARMOR!” the little filly yelped grabbing her doll and ran towards her brother’s room.

A purple unicorn filly pounces and hides in a colt’s bed. She shakes the older white coated unicorn awake crying, “Shining Armor! I’m scared!”

“Whoa,” Shining Armor says startled awake, “Hey now Twili why you crying?”

Just as Shining asked that question another clap of thunder roars out in the middle of the night. Twilight yelps again looking at the window, as she feels her brother’s hooves around her and hugs her tight. He yawns a bit letting his horn glow a little to give light to the dark room, and nuzzles a purple ball of trembling fluff as she clings onto Smarty Pants.

Twilight points a hoof to the window with a sniffling whisper, “That is why!”

Shining Armor smiles at her little sister remembering how he used to be scared of the same thing when he was younger. He perks his ears as if her were having an idea, then looks down at Twilight. He smiles nosing her softly, “Say Twili, if we made a huge fort in your room and I stayed with you all night, could you sleep?”

Twilight yawned a bit nodding, “I think I could. As long as I now my big brother is there to protect me from the big bad noises.”

Shining Armor put Twilight on his back and trotted to the young filly’s room. Looking around he spots some things he could use and then gets serious and looks at her, smiling though he says to Twilight, “Okay to keep the big bad noises from getting us, we need lots and lots of books! So you have to be brave Twili and go fetch some!”

Twilight gives him a nod with a smile and then goes to find books around the house, but staying close to the bedroom. Shining Armor chuckled as he started to set up a ‘wall’ around Twilight’s bed. Twilight soon came running back levitating bunch of books as she drops them on top of Shining Armor’s pile of pillows. He nods at her smiling leaving a small hole for them to get into the fortress. Letting Twilight climb in first then he got into the pillow fort himself closing the ‘door’ behind him.

“Now Twili, we need to build a roof. You think you can help me build the roof?” He asks turning to the scared filly.

Twilight nodded trying her best to help out, Shining Armor smiled at his sister encouraging her to try her hardest. Before too long she had built, with some help from her brother, the roof of the fortress against the thunder. Shining Armor yawned a bit and curled up on Twilight’s bed, with a purple ball curled up next to him. He pulled a blanket over both of them and smiled at his little sister.

“Good night, Twili. I love you sis.”

“Love you too big brother. Good night.”

The next morning, the sun was shining and birds were chirping. Both parents of Shining Armor and Twilight peeked on their son, getting worried when they didn’t see him in his room. They peeked in on the youngest member of the family. They heard snoring, two ponies in fact. Twilight’s mom and dad carefully peeled away the books to find where their son had gotten to.

“It looks like they had some fun last night.” One Whispered one of the parents looking at the other with a soft chuckle pointing a horn to the bed.

Twilight and Shining Armor were fast asleep sprawled out on the bed. Shining lying on his back with a filly Twilight sprawled out in a similar fashion next to him with her head resting in the crook of his neck. The dad pulled the discarded blanket off the floor with his magic and covered both of his foals with it tucking them in. quietly exiting both parents looked at each other.

“Should we wake them up for school?”

“Nah let them sleep. It’s going to be less and less that they get to have moments like that. I say call them in sick and give them the day off. The storm must have kept them up most of the night.” The other parent responded.

A simple nod and a smile crept on the mother’s face as she peered in through a crack at the two younger unicorns. ‘We’re lucky to foals that get along so well.’ She thought to herself as she closed the door for the last time and walked away. Just then the two foals where starting to stir. Shining Armor was the first to wake, and then Twilight not to long after.

“Well Twili, we did it! We made it through the thunder storm!” He said yawning, just waking up.

Twilight smiled sleepily and nodded, “We did Shining Armor, and you helped me do it.”

Shining ruffles Twilight’s hair, whispering to her, “Twili, I’m always here when you need me. I’m your big brother and your Big Brother Best Friend Forever.”

Twilight smiles at Shining Armor and hugs him tightly as he returns the hug. Both of them smiling happily at each other and then Shining gives Twilight a playful noogie causing her to squeal and giggle.

“Forever and always, my B.B.B.F.F.!” Twilight says giggling happily.
