A human is transported to Ponyville and has many adventures as the Warrior if Equestria.
Billy Krumroy a human is somehow transported to Ponyville and is turned into a pony. soon he is found by Twilight Sparkle and is brought to Princess Celestia who reviles that he is part of an ancient prophecy stating that he will one day save Equestria from a great evil. First, however, he must find and wield the great Sword of Harmony. Billy then changes his name to Saber Strike. And since Billy's pony form is a unicorn, the princess tasks Twilight to instruct him in the ways of magic.
He was dizzy to say the least. One minute he was reading a book, the best he had read in a while, Then next a big black hole came out and swallowed him up. After being stranded in a big empty space for a few seconds, he now settled down.
His vision started to clear up. It appeared that he was outside. There were white fluffy clouds in the sky and he could hear the rushing of a small river next to him as well as a forest behind him.
He was laying on his belly and he lifted his head up. He saw a while way from where he laid what looked like a small town.
Looking on he could make out a four-legged creature trotting up to him. At first he could not see exactly what type of animal was approaching him. Soon, however, he could make out a purple horse. No, too small to be a horse. A pony with a horn on its head.
A unicorn? He thought. He must have fallen asleep while reading and is dreaming all this. Then he saw the pony spread out a pair of wings.
Wait a unicorn horn and pegasus wings, he really must be dreaming. Soon the pony got up close to him. “Oh, my are you okay?” It said in a kind female voice.
“Whoa it talks!” he yelled.
“Of course I can talk. So can all ponies,” the purple pony said, “You must have hit your head hard when you landed.”
“Landed?” he asked.
“Yeah I saw a black hole open up at the edge of town and you fell out. I saw it all from the castle balcony”
Did He fall? He didn't remember that. “I feel weird,” he said. He tried to stand up and get his footing, but he couldn’t get up on two legs. He could only stand on all fours. Billy looked down at his hands and feet only to see a set of four hooves.
“Ahhhhh” he shouted looking all over his body, seeing that it had been turned into that of a dark blue pony with a blonde shaggy mane and tale with black highlights. “I'm a.... I'm a.... pony!” he said out loud.
“Okay calm down,” the purple pony tried to say, but he started to have a panic attack and was starting to get out of hand. He then started to babble nonsense “That's enough of this,” she said as her unicorn horn light up bright. He stopped moving and was held up in the air glowing purple.
“Hey, I can't move,” Billy exclaimed.
“I've got you in a magic lock,” Twilight explained. "Now take some deep breaths and calm down."
Billy took in a deep lung full of air, held it for a few seconds, and exhaled. Then he then did it again about five or six more times. The panicking feeling started to subside.
“You okay now?” she asked.
“Yeah I think so. He answered.
She broke her hold of him and he fell back to the ground.
When he landed it actually hurt a little. Meaning that he was not dreaming. “Oh sorry about that.” the purple pony said, “I forgot to float you back down.”
“That's okay,” he said standing up. At least he now knows he's not dreaming. He really is a pony.
“I should introduce myself. I am Twilight Sparkle.”
“My name is Billy Krumroy” he replied as he tried to walk. But he couldn’t make it far before he started to stumble. He tried a second time only to fall again.
“Is there something wrong Billy?” Twilight asked.
“It's just that I'm not used to walking on all fours,” Billy replied. “What do you mean?” Twilight asked. “All ponies walk on all fours.” Then it dawned on her. The shock that ponies could talk, the panic attack, and this struggle to walk on four legs.
“You're not from this world, are you?”
“I would say I'm not,” said Billy. “My world isn't this colorful. And in my world I was a human.”
“Did you just say human?!” Twilight asked with shock.
“Yeah. Is that a problem?” Billy wondered.
“No, it's just that it's been awhile since I've had to deal with humans.” Twilight accounted.
“Would you please come with me to the library?” she asked Billy, “Maybe there we can find out what's going on here.”
Billy thought. Should he go with this strange pony he just met? It seemed kind of risky. But there was something about this purple pony, this Twilight Sparkle that seemed kind and caring, that he could trust her.
“If it will give me some answers as to what I'm doing here I will go with you,” Billy said.
Twilight smiled, “Good. Follow me.” she said and they both started to walk into town.
“So.... what is this town called?” Billy asked.
“Oh, I forgot. This is Ponyville.” Twilight answered. “Are you getting used to walking on all fours now?”
Billy took a stumbled step then regained his balance. “I still trip every once in a while, but I'm getting better.” Billy responded.
He thought back to his world. He read a book once that it takes (in his world) a foul about an hour to start walking after being born. But he is no baby and these aren’t normal ponies. After just a few minutes, Billy was starting to get the hang of walking on four legs.
“So Ponyville...” Billy pondered. “Does a lot happen here?” “Well, the town stays pretty busy during the day,” Twilight explained. “And all kinds of ponies live here, earth ponies unicorns and pegasi.”
Unicorn, pegasus Billy thought. “Twilight may I ask you something?” “Sure”
“Why do you have both a horn and wings? Actually, what would you call that? I've seen paintings in my world of such creatures, but I don't know what they're called. A unisus a pegacorn....”
“Well, I am what is known as an alicorn. I was born a unicorn but was later turned into one. The story of how that happened is kind of long and I'd gladly tell you some other time, but now we have more pressing matters at the hoof.” Twilight answered.
“Oh yes, of course, the library.” Billy realized. But at least he now knew what an alicorn was.
And Billy did notice that Twilight used the word hoof instead of hand. But he figured that was a pony thing seeing as ponies don't have hands. He wondered if the ponies had other such horse puns that they used in everyday life.
A few more minutes passed and soon the two ponies reached the front entrance to town. A medium sized yellow metal gate.
Twilight turned to Billy raising a hoof to point the way and said proudly “Welcome to the town of Ponyville!”
Billy stepped thru the gate and was struck with awe. Indeed, the town was busy. Billy saw all three kinds of ponies walking around, earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi. Some were shopping at market stands. Others were heading off to work. And all were different colors and had unique hair styles, well make that mane styles.
The buildings of Ponyville were also amazing. The cottages that lined the town's cobblestone streets were a yellowish color with visible brown cross beams along the walls. And the roofs seemed to be made out of hay and straw.
“Woe...” was all Billy was able to say for the first few seconds of being in town.
“We need to get going.” Twilight reminded him “I'll give you a proper tour later.”
“Right,” Billy said as they started walking into town, or would it be trotting he wondered.
A few minutes passed and Billy was slowing taking it all in. This place certainly looked more exciting than his home world. If things turned out okay he might stay here a while. He could be someone, or somepony as the case is, new. A more confident social person. Er, pony now.
As they passed thru town square Billy noticed a big stage being constructed, as well as several other ponies gathered around the stage playing various instruments.
“What's happening here?” Billy asked Twilight. “There preparing for the upcoming music festival,” Twilight answered. “Music festival?” said Billy curiously.
“Oh yes. There will be all kinds of music played there. Like classical, blues, rock, and others.”
“Sounds interesting.” said Billy wondering how ponies could play instruments with hooves.
Soon after they left the square Twilight turned to Billy. “Hold on for a second,” she said.
“What's going on?” he wondered.
He looked ahead and he saw a pony, a pink earth pony with a mane that looked as if it was made out of cotton candy.
The pink pony pranced up to Twilight and Billy. “Hey Twilight!” it greeted “Hello, Pinkie Pie.” Twilight responded.
“What are you doing today?” The pink pony apparently named Pinkie Pie asked Twilight.
“Aw you know, this and that.” The alicorn answered.
“That sounds great.....” Pinkie Pie was saying when she caught sight of Billy. She ran over to him with a flash. “Hello there. I don't think we've met. I'm Pinkie Pie and I'm so happy to meet you.” she said holding out her front hoof.
Billy took a step back. This was sudden. His shyness started to get to him, but he thought this was his chance to be more confident and social. Besides this Pinkie Pie seemed to know Twilight, she must be trustworthy, so he stepped back up. “I'm Billy, nice to meet you too.” He said
“Billy, like in billy goat?” Pinkie shouted out.
“Uh, no just plain Billy. I'm not a goat,” said Billy confused.
“Oh. And I wanted to call you Billy Goat. Billy Goat, Billy Goat, Billy Goat. But it's fine if you don't want to be called that. Now don't leave me hanging.” Pinkie then said excitedly.
He saw the outstretched hoof and wondered how ponies shake hands considering ponies don't have hands, so he decided to wing it and held up and bumped his hoof against Pinkies. Pinkie smiled a big grin so it must have worked. That was kind of like a bro fist from his world he thought.
“Yeah, a new pony in town,” Pinkie exclaimed “Now I get to throw another welcome to Ponyville party!”
“Pinkie” Twilight chimed in. “I'm afraid the party will have to wait.” “What?!” Pinkie yelled “Why?”
“A situation has come up,” Twilight said, “It's best I tell everyone at once. Pinkie while you're here could you get the others and meatus at the library?”
“Oh all right. The new library right?” Pinkie asked. “Yes, the new one.”
“Oke Doke Loke, you can count on me.”
And with that Pinkie darted of into town leaving Billy bewildered. He turned to Twilight. “Is she always like that?” he asked.
“Aw that's just Pinkie being Pinkie.” answered Twilight
“Are there other ponies here like that?” Billy asked as they started to walk again. “This place does have some wild characters,” said Twilight “but mostly everyone here is very nice. Don't worry, you'll make lots of friends in no time.”
Friends, Billy thought. He didn't have many friends in his home world. The few he did have he wasn’t too close with. He was too shy to talk to new people. Now he thought, that will be different. He will meet and talk to new people. Or should he say ponies.
After a few more minutes, Billy and Twilight caught sight of a big building they were approaching. “Aw, the library.” The purple alicorn said.
Billy looked up at the building. It was a two-story cylindrical building with a green cone roof. The sides were the same yellowish color as the majority of the towns housing. Complete with the brown crossbeams. And circular windows lined the sides of the structure.
“Impressive,” Billy said out loud. “You and Pinkie said something about this being a new library?”
“Yes well...” Twilight started to say. “The last one kind of uhh... blew up.” “It blew up?!” Billy shouted. “How did that happen?”
“It's another long story,” Twilight said as she stepped up to the libraries rounded front door. Her horn glowed purple as did the doors handle and it opened.
“I have to admit that magic you do sure is cool,” Billy admitted
“Thanks,” Twilight said gracelessly as she stepped thru the door. “Maybe if you end up staying you can learn some yourself.”
“Me... no, I doubt I could do magic,” Billy said embarrassed. “Besides only a few ponies can do magic right.”
“Actually all unicorns can use magic,” said Twilight. “And you might not have realized this yet, but you just happen to be a unicorn.”
“What?” Billy asked shocked as he reached a hoof up to his forehead and as Twilight said he felt a horn adopt his cranium.
As Billy went into the library a million questions went thru his mind. But they were soon silenced when he saw the buildings' interior. Shelves of books lined the walls. All the walls. He wondered how many of the books were adventure stories. Maybe some took place in space. He then wondered if the ponies have ever been to outer space. He was thinking of new questions now.
The shelves were a brownish color and Billy could see green rafters in the roof. There were additional bookshelves in the interior of the library. As well as tables set up for ponies to sit down and read the many books.
“It's not my old library, but it will have to do,” Twilight explained to Billy. “After the old library well... you know, of course we needed a new one. But the town only had so much money and they said no to the new library I designed, said it was 'to complex' for their funds. So they went with this simple design. But the observatory would have been so cool.” she said as she held up her hooves up to her face, it scrunching up as a squee sound came from her.
This kind of surprised Billy. The squee that is. Where did that come from?
Twilight composed herself and turned to Billy. “Well now that we are here let's get to business. Let's find a quiet spot. Luckily there aren’t many other ponies here.”
They found a quiet secluded corner and the two sat down at a small table on cushions that adorned a lot of the library floor.
This must be how ponies sit down at tables. Billy figured as he and Twilight began to talk.
“So you're a human?” Twilight asked.
“Yes, I've already told you that.” Billy responded.
“It's just that this hasn’t happened before,” said Twilight. “Do you know anything about Equestria?” Twilight then asked.
“Equestria... nope never heard of that. What is it?”
“It's the land we ponies live in. Ponyville is a part of Equestria.”
“I see. So I'm in Equestria.” Billy said with realizing tones in his voice.
“Yes. Now do you know anything about Canterlot High?” Twilight asked.
“No.” Billy responded. “If you're asking about what school I went to I went to White County High. Home of the Warriors.” Billy said proudly. “But why would you ask that? Is it important in some way?”
Twilight decided that she better tell him. “A while ago I traveled to a world inhabited by humans. I needed to retrieve something of mine that was taken there. While there I was turned into a human. Like how you have been turned into a pony. A focal point in this world, I went to was a high school called Canterlot High.”
“So that is why you know about humans.” Billy realized. “But sorry I've never heard anything about any Canterlot High.”
“Than that means you are from another world, one that also has humans,” said Twilight excitedly. “I wonder how many other worlds there are out there? This is so fascinating.”
Billy decided he had better ask some questions too. “Twilight, how many other ponies beside yourself know about humans?”
“Just my friends. I did tell them about my adventures in that world.” Twilight answered. “Oh, and the princesses.”
“Wait princesses...?” Billy asked. But before Twilight could answer the library door opened and five ponies walked in. Pinkie Pie among them.
“I've got everypony here Twilight. Hey, where are you?” Pinkie said hoping the way. “Were over here.” Twilight waved over to her friend.
“Oh there you are.” said Pinkie
Billy saw the ponies as they walked over to him and Twilight. He recognized Pinkie, but the other four were a complete mystery. One of them, an orange earth pony with a blond mane and tail and was wearing a cowgirl hat stepped up to them.
“What's this about Twi? I was close to breaking my apple baking record when Pinkie stormed up here saying we all needed to see you.” Billy noticed she was speaking with a southern accent.
“I too am curious as to what you need us all to know,” spoke another pony. This one, a unicorn, with a white coat and a purple curled mane and tail, which Billy had to admit was rather pretty. “I'm close to finishing up my new line of vests for stallions.”
“Allow me to introduce you all to somepony new here,” Twilight said She gestured to Billy. “This is Billy Krumroy. He is a human from another world.”
Billy stood up. “Uhhh.... Hello...uhhh everypony,” he said shyly. Meeting all these other ponies at once was a little unexpected. He was caught off guard by this and his shyness got the better of him.
“Did you just say human?!” the orange pony said shocked “Like the ones you told us about?”
“Yes,” Twilight replied. “But he is from a different world that has humans, separate from the one I went to.”
Another pony, a light blue pegasus with a rainbow striped mane spoke up. “That's cool Twilight. I've always thought humans were cool when you told us about them. And now we have one here in Equestria. That's awesome!” she said hovering up a few feet in the air.
Billy got his nerves together and gathered his courage to speak to the assembled ponies. “Yes I am human and I would like to say hello to all of you. But, first of all, can I get all your names?” he said, ”You all seem to be friends of Twilight here so...” “Oh of course.” Twilight realized. “Sorry Billy, let me introduce you to my friends.”
Twilight gestured to the orange pony. “This is Applejack.”
“Howdy there Billy, pleased as punch to meet you,” Applejack said to Billy while she tipped her hat. Billy nodded back to her.
Twilight then pointed her hoof to the white unicorn. “This here is Rarity.”
“It is indeed a pleasure to meet a human. And might I add that your coat is a marvelous shade of navy blue,” said Rarity with regal in her voice.
“Thanks” Billy replied. “my mom always said I look good in blue.”
“And this...”
Before Twilight could introduce the rainbow mane pony, said pony darted up in the air, did a few flips and a barrel role, all while still in the library, and then landed gracefully in front of Billy and spread out her wings out wide. “ Get ready, for I'm the one and only Rainbow Dash, the greatest flier in all of Equestria. Pretty cool huh?” she said.
Billy was flabbergasted. He had never seen an animal perform such stunts. Indoors no doubt. He stood their mouth agape as he tried to say “Yea cool...”
“Rainbow!” Twilight said to the blue daredevil pony. “I was just about to get to you.”
“Sorry,” Rainbow Dash responded “but I had to make a good first impression.” After Twilight looked over at Billy and seeing the expression his face she said, “Well it looks like you succeeded in that.”
Twilight continued, “Pinkie Pie you've already met.”
Pinkie jumped up “Hi Billy Goat. Oh sorry. Wait, I've never asked, is it okay for me to call you Billy Goat?”
“Just Billy is fine. I'm not a goat.” Billy replied.
“Okay,” Pinkie said sounding a little disappointed.
Billy then noticed the last pony, a light yellow pegasus with a long pink flowing mane, standing back behind the other ponies. She looked rather nervous. “The last one here is Fluttershy.” Twilight was saying as Billy looked at her. The name said it all.
He approached the nervous pegasus. “Hello there. I'm Billy,” he said to her. She took a step back. “Don't worry. I know what it's like to be shy, not being able to talk to others because of nerves. Being afraid that others won't accept you because of whatever reason. It's hard. But you learn to get past it. To find the courage to meet new people... ponies. The courage to make new friends.” he then held out a hoof to Fluttershy. She looked at the hoof for a second. Then something clicked as she held out her hoof and took Billy’s.
“Humans sounded scary from Twilight’s stories.” she said in a soft voice.
“It's okay. I guess ponies who’ve never heard of humans who then learn of them would be scared. But I can assure you I'm a nice guy... Pony now.” Billy said as he smiled at Fluttershy who then returned the smile and then let Billy lead her forward to the rest of the group.
The other ponies all had looks of awe in their faces as Billy looked upon them. Twilight spoke up, “Billy that was beautiful. I've never seen anyone get Fluttershy to open up like that so fast. You must have a lot of friends in your world.”
Billy felt embarrassed. “Not really,” he admitted looking down. “Well you have friends here.” said Twilight.
“We've all just meet you,” Applejack put in, “but seeing you with Fluttershy there... Yes, we would all be tickled pink to be your friends. Welcome to the herd sugar cube.”
Billy felt great happiness flow over him. He had only been in this world for... well he had lost track of the time, but now he had six new friends. A tear started to well up in his eye. He tried his best to hold it back.
Right then the library door opened and a small reptilian creature stormed in. “Sorry, I'm late Twilight. There were a few scrolls that needed organizing at the castle and I couldn’t leave until the job was done,” it said.
Pinkie gasped, “Oh yeah Twilight, Spike said he was going to be delayed getting here.”
“Thanks, Pinkie,” Twilight said annoyed and rolling her eyes. She then turned to the reptile. “Spike I was wondering where you were.”
“Pinkie told me to go with her to the new library, but I still had duties that had to be done. By the way did you find that pony you saw fall out of the sky,” the reptile said. “He's right here. I want you to meet him.” Twilight said as she showed this creature to Billy.
The reptile was short. Shorter than even the ponies. From its voice, it sounded male. He was purple with green plates going down along his head, back, and tail. “Hi there,” he said to Billy. “I'm Spike.”
“Hi,” Billy responded. “May I ask what kind of creature you are?”
Spike looked puzzled. “What? You've never seen a dragon before?”
Billy was surprised. “You’re a dragon? There are dragons in this world?”
“Yes. There are lots of creatures here in Equestria.” Twilight explained. “dragons, manticores, hydras, and tons more.”
Billy was now puzzled. “But Spike here doesn’t look like most dragons I'm familiar with.”
“Well, right now I'm just a youngster,” Spike said. “But don't worry, someday I'll be big and ferocious.”
Billy smiled. This small reptile saying he'll turn into a big dragon someday was rather cute. “I'll look forward to that day,” he said to Spike as he raised a hoof and gave Spike a light noogie on the head.
Spike blushed. “Thanks,” he said.
Billy was getting used to his new pony body.
“Now that introductions are out-of-the-way I think it's about time the princesses know about Billy's arrival here in Equestria.” said Twilight.
Billy remembered “You mentioned princesses before.” he said.
“Yes, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Together they rule Equestria.” Twilight explained.
Billy should have guessed that this fantasy world would have princesses. Twilight looked over to Spike. “Spike, take a letter,” she said.
Billy looked at Spike and saw him take out a quill and paper seemingly out of nowhere, how that works he had no idea and started to write as Twilight spoke. “Dear Princess Celestia,” she said. “A matter of grave importance has come up. Somehow a human has arrived here in Equestria. I do not know what this means and we could use your insight on the matter. Still, with much devotion Twilight Sparkle.”
“You get all that?” Twilight asked Spike.
“Got it,” Spike replied.
“Good. Now send it”
With that, Spike rolled up the paper and blowed out a stream of green fire at the paper incinerating it, the fire going up and headed out of an open window. “Who what you do that for. I saw a mailbox just outside the library. Why destroy the letter?”
“This is how we send mail to the princess,” Spike explained. “It's magic!” After about a half minute Spike burped and a puff of the same green fire came out and forming up in it was another rolled up paper which Twilight picked up with her magic up and began to read.
“That was a fast response,” Spike said
“Not to mention a little gross.” Billy chimed in.
“You get used to it,” said Rainbow Dash. “So what's it say Twilight?” she continued. Twilight looked up from the letter and said, “She wants to see us all in Canterlot right away. She says she wants to 'meet the human.'”
Billy had never ridden a train before, let alone a pink pony train. But here he was riding with the six ponies and baby dragon he had met a few hours ago on their way to Canterlot to meet this Princess Celestia.
Those past hours were quite busy. After Twilight read that letter every pony went off to their rightful abodes to prepare for the trip. Billy was asked to wait at the library, but it wasn’t a long wait until the ponies came backpacked and ready to go. To Billy, it seemed clear that by the way they got ready so fast, that they were used to emergency trips to Canterlot.
Then the group of ponies went to the train station. It was here that Billy learned of this world's version of money, little gold coins called bits which Twilight and the other ponies used to buy train tickets. Billy wasn't surprised that this being a fantasy world gold would be a form of currency. But he was surprised that the coins were called bits which were a form of money name he had not heard of before. Luckily Twilight paid for Billy's ticket.
As the train thundered down the tracks the ponies had decided to fill Billy in on their adventures. They told him a lot. Like the rise of Nightmare Moon, her fall, and Princess Luna's return. Their triumph over the hodgepodge of animal parts and spirit of chaos known as Discord, and his rehabilitation. Their fight against the changeling hive and their ruler Queen Chrysalis. Also saving the Crystal Empire from the evil unicorn King Sombra. And most importantly their most recent victory against the centaur Tirek and the unlocking of the rainbow power.
“....and that's what happened to the Elements of harmony.” Twilight was telling Billy.
“And this rainbow power is what you used to defeat Tirek? He asked greatly intrigued.
“Yes, but now we've been unable to reactivate this power,” Twilight replied.
Rainbow Dash spoke up. “It seems we can only get powered up when Equestria is in peril.”
“It appears from your many adventures that that happens a lot,” Billy said.
“Yeah it feels like every few months there's always some varmint trying to take over Equestria.” Applejack chimed in with her southern drawl.
As the other ponies talked on Billy took a good look at the train he was in. On the outside, it was a typical old west style steam engine, except it, was pink, and the train cars were a mix of bright colors. On the inside, it seemed spacious, with benches on both sides with many other ponies.
Twilight saw Billy staring out the window and went over to him. “You okay?” she asked.
“I'm Just wondering what I'm going to miss in this book series I was reading before I was sent here.”
This intrigued Twilight. “So you like to read? What kind of stories are on into?”
“I'm mostly into Adventure. Things with lots of action.” Billy answered.
“Oh oh oh... if you like that then there's this book series here called Daring Doo that I think you will love.” said Twilight enthusiastically.
Right then, two ponies walked passed by snickering at Billy. “heh. Look at that one.” one was saying.
“Yes, a full grown pony without a cutie mark. Hah. What's this Equestia coming to.” the other said.
Billy knew they were referring to him in some way, but he didn’t understand why.
“What are they talking about Twilight? He asked.
“Well...” Twilight pondered taking a closer look at Billy's side. “I didn't notice before but it's true, you don't have a cutie mark. Look at your flank.”
Billy looked over at his rump only to see solid navy blue. He then looked at the flanks of Twilight and her friends and he noticed symbols upon them.
Twilight had a six-pointed star, Pinkie Pie had three party balloons, Applejack had three bright red apples, Fluttershy had three pink butterflies, Rainbow Dash had a rainbow striped lighting bolt coming out of a cloud. And Rarity had three sparkling blue diamonds.
“So what does a cutie mark mean?” Billy asked confused.
Twilight explained, “Well a cutie mark is a symbol of a ponies special talent. It represents what kind of pony you will be when you grow up. Most ponies get theirs when their young fillies. But I’ve never seen a grown pony without one.”
“I guess that is something we will have to ask Princess Celestia.” said Rarity.
Billy pushed back the idea of cutie marks for the time being. Right now, there were more urgent matters at hand, like meeting this princess everypony was talking about.
“What's this princess-like?” Billy asked.
“Where do I start?” Twilight responded. “She is a fair ruler who is caring and kind. She raises the sun every morning. And I can't wait for you to meet Princess Luna, she raises the moon every night.”
“Yea you kind of told me all this in that little recap of your adventures,” said Billy. “I was just wondering if there was something you might have missed.?”
Applejack spoke up “You can ask the princesses yourself because were here.”
Sure enough as Billy looked out the window was the sprawling city of Canterlot. As the train pulled into the station Billy noticed a difference between Canterlot and Ponyville. While Ponyville was small Canterlot was large with majestic buildings and houses and the ponies who lived here had a more fancy look to them.
As Billy and the other ponies got off the train he saw Rarity kind of go ga-ga. “It always gives me goosebumps to be here in Canterlot.” she said.
“Focus Rarity. We need to get to the castle asap,” said Applejack.
“Yea we don't want to keep the princesses waiting.” Rainbow chimed in.
The assembled ponies headed for the royal castle, Billy followed behind and he did notice some of the Canterlot ponies giving him odd looks. It must be because of the whole no cutie mark thing he figured.
He remembered that a cutie mark is ones symbol of their special talent. But what was his talent. Would he even stay in Equestria long enough to find out and get one. Just more questions to ask the princess he thought.
Despite the size of Canterlot it actually took only a little time for them all to get to the castle which was breathtaking to Billy. It was such a magnificent structure. Bigger than anything he had seen in Ponyville. Thou there was that one tree he saw back in Ponyville that looked like it had a castle like building in its branches. But he gave that little thought. Too many other things to do right now.
The ponies approached the front gates of the castle. Standing at the gate were two unicorn guards dressed in golden armor. Twilight stepped up to them and they both bowed to her. “Princess Twilight,” one of the guards said, “the princesses are expecting you and your friends.”
“Thank you.” said Twilight.
What that guard said startled Billy. “Wo Wo Wo. Twilight, did he just call you a princess?” he asked surprised.
“Oh yeah did I forget to tell you that?” said Twilight embarrassed. “it sort of comes with the territory of being an alicorn.”
The guards looked at Billy. “Is he the one, princess?” one asked.
“Yes.” Twilight returned.
With that, the guards moved to the side to allow the ponies entry to the castle using their magic to open the big gate.
Again it did not take them long until they got to the throne room. And sitting adopt a raised yellow throne was a big white figure. Billy was thinking, he didn't know what kind of pony this Princess Celestia would be. But his finding out about the alicorn princess connection let him know she had both wings and a horn which she did when he got a look at her.
Billy also noticed another alicorn, He figured this was Princess Luna.
The princesses rose up out of the throne and approached the ponies. “Thank you all for coming my little ponies,” Celestia said with a kind motherly voice.
The ponies all bowed before the princesses. But Billy was a little-taken aback by the magnificence of the room he was in.
“Bow Billy,” Twilight told Billy.
“Oh yeah, princesses.” Billy realized as he bowed.
Princess Celestia walked over to the assembled ponies and looked upon Billy. She was bigger than the other ponies. In fact, she seemed to be ruffly the size of a full-grown horse from his world.. She had a white coat with a blazing sun for a cutie mark and her mane and tail was an ever changing flowing mass of violet, azure, green, and cyan.
Luna was a little shorter than her sister and had a coat of blue as dark as the night sky with a flowing mane similar to Celestia's except Luna's looked like a starry night sky.
“You’re the human aren’t you?” Celestia asked Billy.
“Yes, I am princess,” Billy answered.
The princesses took a step back. “Then the prophesy is coming true,” Luna said.
A look of confusion came over Twilight's face. “Prophesy your highness?” she asked.
“Yes,” Celestia said. “It was Stars swirl the Bearded's very last testament before his passing.
“But I know everything there is to know about Star swirl the Bearded and I've never heard anything about any prophesy.” said Twilight.
Princess Celestia looked down at the floor. “That is because it was never written down. He only told it to two ponies, me, and Luna. He told us to never tell anypony else until the time was right. And that time is now. Because of your arrival.” she said pointing a hoof at Billy.
Billy was shocked. “Me.... your highness?” he asked.
The princess nodded. “My I get your name sir?” she asked.
“Billy.” he answered.
“Billy” Celestia started, “a great responsibility has been put upon you this day,” she said to Billy. “One day a warrior from outside shall arrive and use the power of a blade harmonic to light Equestria's darkest hour. That is the prophesy I was told.”
The ponies all looked at each other with various expressions.
Princess Celestia continued. “I believe the blade harmonic is a reference to the sword of harmony. “
“Sword of harmony?” all mane six ponies said at once.
“To explain this I must first tell you all this story,” said Celestia, “back in ancient times the alicorn race was numerous. There were all kinds of us all with special talents. There were ones who moved the sun and moon like I and Luna do today. Some controlled the weather before the pegasus ponies did. There were even ones who helped pollinate flowers and made honey.”
Pinkie started to drool at the mention of honey. Rarity caught sight and said to her “Focus Pinkie.”
Princess Celestia continued. “but there was one alicorn who wanted power. His name was Umbra the Great, the greatest and bravest alicorn warrior there ever was. He was the one who discovered dark magic and became corrupted by it. Soon he rebelled against his fellow alicorns. He was driven back and was put into exile. But not before the dark magic turned him into something different, he became the first draconequus.
“In exile the now named Umbra the Betrayer used his dark magic to make more of his kind. Soon he had an army of draconequus and raged war against the alicorns.” Celestia looked to her sister. “Our parents were killed in this war.”
A tear formed in Twilight's eye. “I'm sorry to hear that princess,” she said.
Celestia looked at the purple alicorn. “It's okay,” the princess said.
Celestia went on with her story. “Eventually Umbra was defeated, but when the alicorns thought it was over somepony new took his place. A mysterious being known only as The Dark Emperor. He waged the one last battle of the war, but something happened. During the battle, there was a great explosion and both sides vanished, leaving Luna and I as the last alicorns alive and Discord as the last living draconequus. This event became known as the great cataclysm.”
Billy remembered the ponies telling him about Discord on the train ride here. That must be tough on him he thought.
Tears started to form in both of Celestias eyes, but soon she regained her composer. “Sorry everypony just a lot of old memories coming back,” she said. “But I'm sure this dark emperor is the darkness mentioned in the prophesy.” she continued.
“But what about the sword?” Rainbow Dash asked.
Princess Celestia looked up. “That involves another story. After the events of Hearth's Warming Eve and the Elements of Harmony were created there needed to be a special place to hold them until the day they were needed. So all the pony tribes came together to figure this out. Days went by without any answer. But then a little filly known as Maple Leaf stepped forward and suggested a tree. Because trees in a way represent all the elements.
“They honestly reach for their dreams to the sky, They kindly provide us with shade on hot days, They encourage laughter with their funny leaf scar faces, They generously give us their fruit when we are hungry, They're always dependable to stand before the storm and protect you loyally. And who says trees can't be magical?
“But this couldn’t be just any tree. It needed to be special, so the Clover the Cleaver and the others reached out to the crystal ponies of the Crystal Empire, who sent down their best crystal mages who then made a magnificent tree grown from he most powerful purest crystal. The Tree of Harmony.
“Clover then decided there should be one more line of defense for the elements, so a branch was taken from the tree and a powerful blacksmith named Iron Forge forged the branch into a mighty tool, the sword of harmony meant to defend the elements and Equestria.”
Princess Luna took a step forward. “Billy, you are the warrior stated in the prophesy. You are the warrior of Equestria.”
Billy was stunned. “Me a warrior? I've never been a fighter,” he said.
“Don't worry,” said Luna. “You will be trained. Since you are a unicorn now you will be able to use magic. And you will have to find the sword of harmony and wield it to fight back the forces of the dark emperor.”
“First, Celestia said, “you will have to get your cutie mark. Yes, I've noticed you don't have one.”
“Yes,” said Luna, “get your cutie mark, find the sword, and defend Equestria. Will you do this Billy?”
Billy thought hard. This could be dangerous. But this is a chance to live a new life. An exciting life. Plus he'd get to make many new friends on this task. His new life begins now.
“I'll do it,” Billy said
Princess Celestia looked upon Billy. “Thank you,” she said, “but there is one last thing, your name. Billy stands out too much as a different kind of name. We can't let too many ponies find about humans. The discovery of humans would cause mass panic and chaos. So I ask of you to chose a more fitting name.”
Billy thought on. “Well if I'm going to be wielding a sword,,” he pondered, then something clicked. “I've got it. Call me Saber Strike.”
Celestia smiled. “Saber Strike it is then. Everypony, I’d like you all to call him that name from now on.”
The princess then looked over to Twilight. “Twilight I'm appointing you to be Saber Strikes magic teacher.”
Twilight nearly exploded. “You really think I'm ready to take on a student of my own.”
“I know you're up to the task,” Celestia said. “Now go on home my little ponies and prepare for the trials to come.”
On the way back to the train station, the ponies all excitedly talked about what's to come. “Now that's the bees knees, our new friend is going to be a warrior.” Applejack was saying.
“Yes and you'll look ever so dashing when you get that sword Saber Strike.” said Rarity.
“But first I need to get my cutie mark,” Saber Strike said, “How do I do that.”
“You'll get your mark when you find your special talent,” Twilight spoke up. “and I think I know three little ponies who might be able to help.”
Ch 3 - Saber Strike meets the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
It had been about a day since Billy, now known as Saber Strike, and the mane six got back to Ponyville from Canterlot. Twilight decided to hold off on starting Sabers magic lessons for a couple of days so he could better familiarize himself with Ponyville.
Yesterday the future Warrior of Equestria was shown town hall. Twilight took the opportunity to introduce Saber to Mayer Mare who let him in with open hoofs and started the paperwork to make Saber an official citizen of Ponyville. Saber thought the Mayer seemed like a kind trustworthy pony But he decided not to get on her bad side after a little incident during their meeting in which the Mayer through a little fit after she lost all her writing quills and she couldn't sign the important paperwork. If Twilight hadn’t conveniently had some quills on her she might have brought down the entire building looking for them.
As they left the hall Twilight remarked that the Mayor usually didn’t take her job quite as seriously as she had at that moment. She informed Saber that usually she shows little to no interest in her work instead using the title of Mayer to boost her ego. Twilight then theorized that with the music festival coming soon she has a lot more pressure on her than usual to put together something great.
Then the alicorn gave Saber a closer look at the now finished stage for the music festival which was to take place in two days from then at sunset. He was curious as to what the music of this pony world would be like. He hadn’t heard much music in Equestria aside from trumpets bellowing back in Canterlot to announce the arrival of him and his new friends at the castle.
The human turned navy blue pony then had thought of music from earth and how they might work in Equestria. He figured rock might be popular with the teenage ponies, as well as Rainbow Dash. Rarity would probably enjoy classical being the classy pony she is. And thou he couldn't quite pinpoint what kind of music Fluttershy would like he was absolutely certain that Applejack would love country. He also had a strange feeling that he couldn’t explain that Pinkie would be into rap. Do they even have these types of music here? he had thought to himself.
A little while after that Sabers stomach had started to growl. After all, he hadn't eaten scene he first arrived in Equestria, So Twilight brought him to a fast food place called the Hay Burger. At first he felt a little freaky when he found out that the burgers had hay in it instead of meat. It took a little while for him to remember that horses and ponies are herbivores. But I don't eat hay. He had thought. But when he looked at the table to see Twilight he saw a purple pony princess gobbling down burger after burger occasionally sipping from her large vanilla milkshake and urging him to eat. Well, I guess I'll try it. He had thought as he took a small nibble from the dried grass filled sandwich. And to his surprise it hadn’t tasted all that bad. In fact, it tasted delicious. Which caused the ponies to eat hay burgers for the rest of the afternoon.
That night Twilight showed Saber the tree castle that was created by the chest she and the rest of the mane six opened in order to defeat Tirek. How he did not fully notice it when he first entered Ponyville he did not know because it was pretty big. Maybe it was the jet lag of being torn from his world, being brought to another world, and being turned into a pony.
The bookworm pony then brought him inside and took him to a chamber that would be used as his place to stay while he was in Ponyville. Saber was happy to get some sleep after such a busy day, but it was a chore learning how to get comfortable in a bed in pony form.
It was in the afternoon the next day as Saber walked with Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Rarity. “So where are we going today?” Saber asked excitedly.
“Today,” Twilight started “we're going to introduce you to some ponies you might be able to relate to.”
“In what way?” the navy blue warrior to be pondered.
“You'll see.” was all Twilight said.
A few minutes passed and Saber spoke back up. “I must admit,” he said as they all walked. “I felt a little odd walking thru town not wearing any clothes.”
“I suppose humans would fell weird being naked like this.” Applejack chimed in. “but we ponies really only put on duds for special occasions.”
This is when Rarity popped in. “Oh my,” she said. “We can't have the Warrior of Equestria feeling out of place like this. Saber why don't you stop by my boutique later today and we can get you a proper outfit.”
“Why thank you Rarity. I might just do that.” Saber said.
“Just what we need,” Rainbow said. “another fashion...”
Before anypony else could say anything else Twilight stopped the group. “Here we are,” she said.
They were beside a small red building with a short bell tower on the roof which was sounding off very loudly.
Saber soon realized what kind of building it was. “A school house?” he said curiously.
“Yep..” Twilight responded. “and it's out for the day.”
Up ahead Saber Strike noticed lots of little ponies leaving the school. Three were running up to them. One was orange with a purple mane and tail with small pegasus wings. Another, a unicorn, was white like Rarity with a curly mane of two different shades of purple. And the last was a light yellow earth pony that wore a big pink bow in her red mane.
“What's going on?” Saber asked.
The three little fillies reached the group. The one with the bow ran up to Applejack. “Big sis!” she exclaimed as she gave her a big hug.
The white unicorn filly embraced Rarity. And the orange filly did the same to Rainbow Dash.
The orange one then noticed Saber. “Who's this guy?” she asked rather bluntly pointing a hoof at him.
Applejack explained. “This little fillies is Saber Strike. He's a new friend. Saber this here is my little sister Applebloom.”
The marshmallow-like white filly said “Hi there. I'm Sweetie Belle and I'm Rarities little sister.?”
“I'm Scootaloo,” said the orange filly. “Technically I'm not Rainbow Dashes sister but I might as well because were both so cool and awesome.”
Rainbow then gave Scootaloo a noogie. “Thanks for the compliment,” she said.
Saber was a little clueless as to what was going on.
“Um... Any reason why you're all are introducing me to your siblings?” he asked.
“Why darling you're going to watch them for the afternoon.” Rarity answered.
Saber was shocked. “What?” he said. “Why do you want me to watch a bunch of kids?”
Saber wasn’t really too fond of children. At least children that he wasn’t related to. He found them rather annoying and troublesome. And unlike most other people he did not consider human babies to be cute. Puppies and kittens he found cute, but not babies. So learning that he had to watch some pony kids for the afternoon was something he was not too sure about.
“Now now,” said Twilight. “If you take the time to get to know these fillies, you might find you all have many things in common.”
Twilight then turned to the three fillies. “Take a look at his flank little ponies,” she said to them.
Applebloom, Sweetie Bell, and Scootaloo did as they were told and looked upon Sabers blank flank.
“Hey!” Applebloom shouted in a similar accent as her big sister. “He ain’t got no cutie mark.”
“Exactly,” said Applejack. “Perhaps you could make him a cutie mark crusader.”
“A what?” Saber asked confused.
“The Cutie Mark Crusaders is an organization we started,” Applebloom said.
“To help ponies find their special talent,” Sweetie Bell added.
“And get their cutie marks.” Scootaloo finished.
“Oh, I get it. You think hanging with these uh... fillies will help me get my cutie mark.” Saber Strike said.
“We can hope sugar cube.” said Applejack.
“Now we will be back in a few hours after our spa treatment,” said Rarity. “And girls...”
“Yes.” all three fillies said at once.
“Be on your best behavior. Saber Strike is in charge so mind him.” Rarity finished.
“Of course.” the three young ponies said together again, all with big grins all on their faces as little halos floated above their heads.
“See you all later,” said Twilight as she and the other adult ponies turned to head to the spa. “And Saber,” she added, “we'll be starting your magic lessons tomorrow morning so be ready.”
Applejack looked to Twilight and asked worriedly“Do you think our little sisters can really help Saber get his cutie mark?”
Twilight answered “Maybe. But I think he can teach them as much as they can teach him.”
As they left Saber overheard Rainbow Dash mutter “I don't know about this spa thing. I've got an image to keep.”
“But Rainbow...” Rarity said. “You will be more aerodynamic with a properly groomed coat and mane.”
Rainbow was silent for a short while as she thought about what Rarity said. Then let out a sigh and said “Fine.”
When Twilight and the others were out of sight the three fillies all grouped together and Saber could hear them muttering something.
“Maybe I should be in the loop seeing as you'll be helping me get my cutie mark.” he said to the gathered younglings.
Saber did not get an answer for a few seconds. But then the three crusaders all raised their heads ant front legs up in the air as they shouted “YEA CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS ROCK STARS” out as loud as they could.
Saber had to hold his front hooves up to cover his ears that shout was so loud. Then he realized he no longer had any front support and fell to the ground with his pony plot sticking up in the air.
The crusaders caught sight of this and started to laugh. “This pony's funny,” said Sweetie Bell.
“Nice faceplant” Scootaloo commented.
Applebloom went over to help up Saber Strike. “Sorry,” she said as she pulled out a helping hoof.
Saber took he hoof. When he was back up on all fours he faced the crusaders.
“Now that we’ve had a good laugh,” he said. “what are we going to do to get my cutie mark?”
“Well we were going to go over our routine for the music festival tomorrow,” said Scootaloo. “But I don't think we can fit you in, to last minute.”
Saber started to get curious. “What is this routine like?” he asked.
Sweetie Bell answered “It's a revised version of our theme song.”
“You have a theme song?” Saber asked a little surprised.
“Yeah,” Applebloom popped in. “We performed it at a talent show a while ago and we won for the best comedy act. But it wasn’t meant to be funny so we rewrote it to be more rocking.”
“Rocking? As in rock and roll?” Saber asked.
“Yes, we will rock the festival,” Sweetie Bell said excitedly
“Yeah right. More like stink up the festival,” a mean voice said over by some bushes.
Scootaloo looked around angrily. “Who said that?” she said out loud.
“Just guess.” said Applebloom turning Scootaloos head around to see two fillies coming out of the bushes and walking up to them.
“Great, I was hoping we wouldn’t have to deal with them today.” said Sweetie Bell.
“What, what's going on? Who are those two” Saber said confused.
One of the two fillies trotting up to them was light pink with a wavy mane and tail of light purple with white stripes and wore on her head a small tiara. She trotted to them with a nasty grin on her face, as if she was up to no good.
The other filly was gray whose mane and tail was a lighter shade of gray with a braid hanging off to her left. She also wore a pearl necklace and a pair of glasses with light blue frames.
“Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.” said Applebloom.
“Probably here to pick on us again.” added Scootaloo.
“Right you are.” the pink filly said.
After getting a good look at these two Saber guessed the pink filly was Diamond Tiara and the gray one Silver spoon. He then noticed that these two had cutie marks. Diamond Tiaras was a tiara of course. And Silver Spoons was a spoon.
Diamond stepped up “You think you all will rock at the music festival. Ha, I bet after just a few seconds into your song the crowd will turn tail and run for the hills.”
“Good one” Silver added
The two then did a move where they bumped their hooves together and then their flanks while they both said together “Bump bump sugar lump rump.”
“Yes” Diamond put in. “but just to make our quota for today... ahem...”
“BLANK FLANKS.” Diamond and Silver both said out loud.
“Will you stop it with the blank flank taunt?” said Scootaloo. “It's getting old.”
Diamond Tiara said to the crusaders “It's an oldie but a goodie.”
Saber knew what was going on. He knew a bully when he saw one. He figured these two have been pestering the crusaders for quite some time. It was time for him to step up. But before he could Diamond noticed him.
“Well well, what have we here?” the pink bully started. “The Cutie Mark Crusaders have a new friend?” She then noticed Sabers flank. “Wow, an adult blank flank. You don't see that every day. I guess freaks of all ages need to stick together.”
Saber looked over to the crusaders. They were just standing there as tears started to welt up in their eyes. That was the straw that broke the camels back for him. “Now hold it right there,” he said. “Not having a cutie mark yet does not make you a freak. I just happen to be from out of town. And these are good fillies who have hopes and dreams you little brat. That must be your special talent despite the tiara cutie mark.”
Saber then turned to Silver Spoon. “And you, what's your talent... spooning?” He quickly caught himself. “Actually forget I said that. Anyway, these little ponies are under my care so leave then alone. Or I'll find your parents and tell them what you to have been doing to all these Innocent fillies.”
Diamond Tiara was flabbergasted. “Well I know when we're not wanted,” she said, “Come, Silver Spoon. We have other business to attend to.”
And with that Diamond Tiara and Silver spoon walked off with their snouts held snootily up in the air.
The crusaders looked up to Saber. “That was awesome!” exclaimed Scootaloo.
“I've never seen anypony give those two what for like that since my cousin.” said Applebloom.
All Sweetie Bell was able to say was a long “Wooow”
“Bullies are just the worst,” said Saber. “I've dealt with them too much in my past to know.”
He then looked down to the crusaders. “Are you all okay?” he asked them.
Sweetie Bell smiled at Saber and said “Yeah... thanks.”
“Don't mention it.” Saber responded. “Now... about getting those cutie marks?”
