This story focuses on a man who had nothing left. Stuck in a rut in a failing town had nothing more to look forward to and just when he was going to cut his existence short he stumbles upon a white light. This light will change him for the better.

A New Friend

August 3, 2018 was a date which would change me for the rest of my life. My life before that had been one depressing turn after another leaving me to question if I even wanted to continue my life on.

"Another rainy day..." I said grumbling as I walked out of the restaurant I worked at and headed towards my car.

The town I lived in was once known as Creekwater, at one time it had been a active city full of life but now sat as a distant reminder of days gone past. In the past few years the town began to shrink as the factories which supported the town had left for a new up and coming city named Lakeside City leaving the smaller shops and businesses to fail and slowly close one by one.

“Maybe I could go to Lakeside City…” I thought to myself as the wiper streaked across the windshield.

My thoughts were interrupted as I noticed flashing lights in the distance. Up ahead sat one of the towns remaining police cruisers blocking the road. Behind them sat 2 work trucks fixing what seemed to be a downed power line. The officer directed down a side street but didn’t seem to happy to be standing in the rain. At one time I had known all the back roads to this town, I used to ride with my friends all over but now it was all lost memories. I continued down the road looking for anything familiar until I reached the entertainment area of the town. The once family friendly shops were now run down adult shops and bars but even they failed here. Up in the corner was the old family center. I felt a strange urge inside me told me to go there but I had no idea why. I pulled into the parking lot and stopped by the doors.

The building, which once held great events had been red was now a faded pink color or atleast where you could see in between the graffiti. The lettering on the building read “Creekwater Family Center” but many of the letters had fallen off the building. The rain started to pick up a bit making a loud thumping noise as each drop hit followed by the sliding noise of the wipers. I’d often come here with my friends back in my childhood. The center was a large gathering point for the town. People used to come here to watch bowling games and to relax to get out of the stresses of usual life. The town had decided to close the center as less and less people showed up.

"Why am I here? What is my purpose?" I asked myself.

My life had been going downhill ever since my parents died an depression clawed onto me making me think other thoughts, thoughts of ending everything. I reached over to the glove box pulling out my dad's .38 snub nose revolver with one bullet loaded inside.

"I could end it all here where I was most happy with them" I said to myself as I climbed out of my car, leaving it running as the radio softly played. I turned towards the building and began to walk up to the door with the gun in hand.

Inside the building had started to decay. A few of the ceiling tiles and lights had fallen and lay broken on the floor. Most of the machines and games had been removed and sold, what machines had been left were now broken and random graffiti, like the outside walls were all over in the inside walls. I continued in looking around the building. It looked like even the vandals stopped coming here. Eventually I found myself at the bowling alley which only had four lanes. I sighed for a second and took a seat in one of the chairs that wasn’t broken.

"Why can't I just go back... Back to the happy times?" I asked myself looking down at the revolver in my hand.

I checked the gun to make sure it was loaded then placed it to my head. One thought came into my mind, is this how I want to end it though? Frustrated I threw the gun onto one of the old lanes causing a loud thudding sound on the hardwood. However after a yelp echoed through the bowling alley

"What was that?" I asked myself standing up looking toward the lane the gun landed.

A little of the outside light came in through a hole in the ceiling, lighting up a small area on the lane. What I would see would change me forever. Sitting next to where the gun landed was a bunch of newspaper bunched up with a small pony shivering. She looked to be only 1 or 2 years old. Her coat was as white as the fresh fallen snow and her mane was long, dark blue, and curly. I first thought it was a toy or a plushy, but then again why would a toy yelp? Then our eyes connected and I instantly felt a warmth come over me. neither of us were sure what to do, she panicked a little but didn’t try to run and I stared at her in shock. I tried not to move too fast to freak her out anymore. I could see her shivering as the cold air began to seep in from the outside

“Would you like to come with me?” I asked softly to her. Her face and eyes instantly picked up and she happily smiled at me. “You understand me?” I asked stunned.

She nodded as I put out my hands and she climbed into them. Once she was in my hands I gently tucked my jacket over her as she cuddled close to me. There was a strange warmth I felt, not only from the small pony I had tucked next to me but deeper. It had been years since I cared for anything else other then I. After my parents my parents died, I sank into a depression and had become cold to everyone and everything. I usually stayed in my home and away from the rest of the world, contemplating on whether I wanted to go on or not. I didn’t care for the world anymore but once I picked up this small filly I instantly felt a care for something, a motivation to go on. As I reached the door I noticed the rain started coming down harder. I covered the small filly a little more and walked out quickly to my car idling by and opened the door. I gently placed her on the passenger seat before climbing in and gently shut the door. She started to look around the car confused and curious. She had most likely never seen a car before. I looked at her trying to remember where I had seen her before. I thought about it for a few moments until an idea came to mind.

“Nah that can’t be.” I said to myself looking around the interior of the car.

This had once been my dad’s car so little items of my childhood were inside. I shuffled around the old papers and CD cases until I reached the one I was looking for. In my hand was a My Little Pony soundtrack I had made years ago when I was in my pony phase. Inside the case was a small printed picture of the mane six all standing and sure enough the small filly in my backseat was an exact match to the Rarity from the show.

“How is this even possible?” I asked myself looking at her.

Chapter 2: Parenthood

I stared at the card then at the young pony who was now working her way into the backseat. Disbelief and shock caused me to temporarily be stunned.

“How can this be...? How can a cartoon character that only existed on a show be real?” I asked myself as the rain started to fall harder, smacking onto the windshield and roof.

I looked to her again and noticed that something was different about her besides size from the Rarity on the card. Then I saw it. Her flank was blank of her cutiemark.

“Wonder why she doesn’t have it yet?” I asked myself. “Well guess we should go home now” I said to her as she explored.

“We” I thought with a chuckle. I hadn’t said the word we in a long time. After a little bit we arrived onto my street. Only a few houses were still occupied while most of the others sat empty. Some even had for sale signs but I assumed they hadn’t been on the market in some time. My house, compared to some was small only being a single level house with 2 bedrooms. The vibrant white paint was now a dull grey and the blue shutters which had accented each window were either missing or broken. The porch wasn’t much better than the rest of the house. Some of the boards were cracked and missing and small attempts I had made to repair it had also rotted out. I pulled into the cracked driveway as the rain eased up into a light sprinkle.
“We’re home….” I stopped in the middle of the sentence.

I hadn’t named her yet. I knew what her name would be but forgot to give it to her. I gently picked her up out of the backseat and sat her in the passenger seat. “

Do you like the name Rarity?” I asked her softly. She nodded excitedly and smiled at me. “Well then Rarity. Let’s head inside” I said to her and gently picked her up.

Climbing out of the car I held her close to me to prevent her from getting wet. I fumbled with the keys for a second as the boards creaked under my feet.

“There you are” I said to myself finding the right key and then sliding it into the lock.

The door opened with a small creak revealing the inside of the house. The interior was a bit better than the outside. The living room still had a hint of green while the carpet on the floor was almost worn out by the door. A small couch and recliner sat around a cracked glass coffee table. An old television sat in the corner with a set of rabbit ears on top. No cable companies bothered to come out here anymore so I made due with basic channels. I quickly picked up the trash scattered around and tossed them into the can in the kitchen.

“Welcome home Rarity. I know it isn't much but it's a home” I told her as she explored around.

I saw her head down the hall and rushed past her to close the bedroom doors. I had taken up my parent’s room and turned my old room into a storage room. It had once been organized but now was total chaos and I didn’t want her getting lost in the mess. She looked up at me confused but then turned to explore the rest of the house. Rarity had made her way into the kitchen and I followed her.

“Are you hungry?” I asked her and she nodded.

I thought to myself realizing I had no idea what to feed her.

“Was she too young for solid food? What did she eat? I know from the show she ate daisy and grass sandwiches. Maybe she could eat…” I was cut off by the sound of a crash and then crunching.

It seems while I was thinking she’d opened the fridge and used a bit of magic to grab a bag of carrots I had. She happily munched away. I chuckled a little and picked up the bag and removed a few. After a few moments they were peeled, rinsed, and cut into small piece, which I then placed them into a small bowl and placed them on the floor. She quickly began to snack. Thoughts once again filled my head along with the unanswered questions. How long had she’d been there? Did she have any memory of her world and when would she be going back? I pushed the thoughts away and walked out to the living room. Sitting down in my usual spot in my recliner I turned on the TV. Much wasn’t on except infomercials and day time soap operas. I heard the sound of hooves and watched as Rarity walked out and sat on the couch. She looked to me then to the TV and became suddenly interested into it. I turned to the TV to see that I had stopped on a fashion show. The new winter designs were being introduced and Rarity seemed to enjoy the show so I left it on. We sat there for hours until Rarity yawned. As yawns were contagious I yawned after her then looked to the clock. 10:34 PM was the time.

“Well we’d better get off to bed.” I said to her turning off the TV.

My newest thought was where she would sleep. My old room was crammed full of stuff which I would have to clean out and I took up my parent’s room. I stood up and walked down the hall to the closet and opened the door. Inside were a couple of spare blankets and pillows. I pulled out a pillow and blanket then shut the door with my free hand. As I went to turn to the living room but noticed that Rarity had followed me. Her white coat standing out in the dark hallway.

“Well I guess you can join me in my room” I said to her and she nodded before she let out another yawn.

She reached the door a moment after me and I opened it revealing the room. There wasn’t much special about it. The walls were a burgundy color and the floor was a black carpet. In the center of the room sat a queen sized bed. On the wall with the double door closet sat a small dresser. My mom had decided years later to put in a small storage box with a cushion on top where she would sit to put her shoes on. I placed down the pillow and blanket on the cushion making a small makeshift bed.

“This will be temporary until I clear up the other room” I said to her as she jumped up and got under the blanket.

With another yawn I walked to my bed, pulled back the blankets, and climbed in. I turned off the light and got comfortable. I soon heard the small sound of her snoozing away and smiled before drifting off to sleep aswell.

Good Days

It had been 5 months since Rarity joined my life and it was amazing. All the trees were now bare as winter had set in and snow covered everything. Rumors had started up that the land would be sold to a big company and would be leveled to put a factory. I guess it would be good for the town. Might be what we need to save it but nothing was set in stone. In the past few months I had started watching My Little Pony again to learn everything I could. I began working with her to teach her how to talk and with the help of a few language programs and my tutoring she had picked up English in no time at all. She even started to call me daddy which made me feel warm on the inside as I had begun to think of her as my daughter. We also worked with her magic. I thought it was strange how she could use her magic on Earth as we have no real magic here. I assumed it was a symptom of whatever brought her here or a connection she may have to her world. Since she was learning everything so fast I had started going to the park down the street from my house as a reward. It was nice to get out and have some fun. Due to the cold weather I went downtown to a small clothing shop for kids and bought Rarity a jacket, scarf, hat, and 2 pairs of boots to try and keep her warm. I knew they had snow back in Equestria but I wanted to be sure Rarity wouldn’t catch a cold. One day I was sitting on an old bench and watched Rarity play in the snow.

"Stay within my sight. I want you to be safe" I warned her but as all kids she was curious and explored the nearby woods and houses.

One house in particular caught her attention. The two level house sat just on the other side of the fence to the park, the wall was completely gone since a fire had burned through from the kitchen causing the second floor to collapse scattering items from the house all over that the owners never bothered to collect. Rarity picked through the debris and found herself a small jewelry box. She opened it slowly to find inside shiny jewels and trinkets tucked safely inside. Her eyes glistened as she looked over them.

After a few minutes I hadn’t noticed Rarity and wondered where she had gotten off to. Suddenly I stood up and looked to see her bolting across the soccer field with a worried look on her face

“Daddy look what I got!!!” She shouted as she nearly tackled me to the ground in a slight panic.

I looked to her concerned and noticed a gold bracelet on her right for leg.

“Where did you get that?” I asked her quickly.

“Oh I found it but that’s not the point look at this!” She said quickly she pointed to her flank. “I got this when I found this old box full of gems and bracelets.” She said as I looked at her flank to see it was no longer blank. Her cutiemark which was the three diamonds had finally appeared. “What does it mean daddy?! Should I be worried!?!” She said frantically. I laughed a little as she glared at me. I couldn’t believe that she had gotten her cutiemarks so soon. I sat down on the bench and patted at the open seat next to me. She quickly sat down waiting for me to answer.

“That mark on your flank.” I said pointing to it “That is a very good thing.” I said as her worry went away and excitement replaced it.

I told her all about what cutiemarks were and how ponies get them and why. She excitedly jumped up and down hearing on what it was. The skies had begun to get dark as I check my watch. It was almost 4:30 which meant the night would soon be here. We decided to head for home, Rarity bouncing the whole way. While on the walk I had decided to pick up a cake to celebrate the event. We got home just before the snow started to fall and the sky grew dark. I placed the cake down on the coffee table and removed Rarity’s jacket along with my own. Rarity had gone out to the kitchen as I hung up the jacket and grabbed a cake cutter. We unwrapped the cake and cut in, giving her the first and biggest piece. We began to eat happily. Rarity got a little cake on her face. I thought it was the perfect time to snap a picture for our album. Her disapproval of the idea was soon overcome by my ambition.

As we both began to get sleepy a few hours later we decided to head off to bed. We both headed to Rarity’s room. About a month ago I had finally got my old room cleared and painted the walls a light shade of purple. We’d also replaced the shag carpet with a thin white carpet and bought her a brand new bed, desk, computer, and dresser which were all an off shade of white. She climbed into her bed and I tucked her in and read her a short story to help her sleep. As I got up to head out she turned to me and said

“I love you.” and smiled.

I must admit that it had caught me off guard. It was the first time she had ever said I love you. It was also the first time someone else had ever said that since my parents. I felt my heart melt into a puddle and a smile came over my face. I knelled down and kissed her forehead

“I love you to.” I said to her before I got up and walked to the door.

I turned one last time and wished her a good night before turning off the light and closing the door. I walked into my room and laid down in my bed pulling the blankets over me.

“She said I love you” I thought to myself as I felt a warm and fuzzy feeling come over my body.

I closed my eyes, happier then I had ever been in the last few months. I was even happier than the first time I had found her. I eventually drifted off to sleep.

A Change of Pace

It was now coming up to 5 ½ years since I had found Rarity in the old bowling alley. She had grown to her full size standing at 3 feet and 2 inches tall. Even though she was only 7 her maturity level was that of a woman in her early 20’s. She knew what she wanted and how to get it. About 2 years ago she had decided she wanted to start designing clothes for herself as she never found anything she liked whether it was online or at a store. So with a small chunk of money I had saved up I bought her a sewing machine and plenty of materials so she could begin her dream. She took up the small garage as her workshop forcing my car to be parked outside under a tarp but I didn’t mind, Rarity was happy and that’s all that matters. Mannequins with dresses and shelves of fabric covered the garage where car parts and junk once sat.

Along the wall next to the fabric was also a large shelf of gems and jewels she would mix into her outfitsand although it looked like a mess to the untrained eye to Rarity it was perfect. She spent most of the time I was at work inside the garage and when I got home out at the park with me. Most days in the town were surprisingly warm, the summer came quickly in bringing temperatures above 70 some days. This was strange as our summers never got over 55 degrees and even the clouds let up a little every so often giving out small rays of sunshine. The town had made an agreement with Manuco, a large manufacturing business to buy all the empty property in the town and level it to build a large factory. Construction sites had begun to pop up all over town. Most of the empty builds which were by me were now leveled and smoothed out leaving just a dirt spot where it once sat. One summer evening as Rarity and I were sitting in the living room, she sat hapoily watching a fashion debut while I read one of the books I had bought when the local bookstore closed. As we relaxed there was a sudden knock on the door, I hadn’t had anyone knock on my door in almost 6 years. “Rarity head to your room while I see who it is” I told her. She nodded and walked down the hall to her room using her magic to open the door and then closed it. I got up and brushed off some crumbs from the chips I had been eating.

I opened the door to see 2 men standing in suits outside my door. One had a briefcase in his hand.

“Can I help you?” I asked confused on why they were there.

“Hello sir. My name is Bernard and this is my coworker Alfred. We work for Manuco and have an offer to discuss with you.” Bernard said.

He stood about 5 feet tall and wore a grey suit. He had short black hair and glasses on. He looked to be an executive or lawyer for Manuco. His partner he was standing with was at least a foot taller than him and wore a black suit. He had a shaved head and a serious look on his face. I could tell he wasn’t much of a talker. I invited them in and we sat in my living room. Then Alfred opened the briefcase and took out some papers and handed them to Bernard

“We have an offer to buy your property. They have given me an estimate on what your house is worth and are willing to give you at least the full price plus an addition half of the total price on top. This is a deal that is truly in your benefit Mr …” He paused

. “Saintclaire” I said to Bernard.

“Very nice to meet you Mr. Saintclaire. Like I was saying this is a deal which is truly in your benefit.” He said as he showed me the paperwork.

I looked over it confused on everything but I pretended to understand.

“Of course if you decide to go with this we will give you as much time as you need to find another home and move in. We don’t want to shove you out onto your butt.” He said with a small chuckle.

He then slides a check for $350,000 and placed it next to the papers, the name on the check was blank.

“This is the estimated amount we’ve found your house to be plus half the price placed in with it. Like I said this is a deal in your favor” He repeated again.

I had thought about moving before. The house here was getting to small and all the construction had made it more difficult to move to the park. Rarity was beginning to have to spend time in the house more and more. I thought for a few moments about it then remember what Rarity might want.

“Do you mind if I think it over for a bit?” I asked them.

“I’ll give you an answer tomorrow” I added in.

Bernard nodded to me

“I can understand and will be happy to let you decide.” He said handing me a small card. “This is my direct phone number.” He added in as well as I looked at the card.

“Bernard Royce. Development and financials Manager” was on the card in a red ink. He collected up his papers and the check before standing up with his friend

“Thank you for your time sir” Bernard said to me as I shook his hand. “I’ll be looking forward to your call Mr. Saintclaire” He said finally as they walked out of the house and over to a black Lincoln parked in front of the house.

They drove off almost as soon as they climbed in and were gone quickly. I closed the front door and walked down the hall to Rarity’s room and with a quiet knock on the door I walked in. Rarity was listening to her iPod and reading a book.

“Rarity” I said as she looked at me.

She removed her headphones and placed them around her neck.

“So what was that all about dad? Who was that?” She asked. I sat down next to her

“That was 2 men from Manuco. They want to buy our house but I wanted to talk to you before I decided anything. You have just as much say as I do.” I told her.

She looked at me and thought for a moment.

“It might be good to accept. I mean I’d miss this place but I’ve wanted to get a bigger shop. I was thinking about starting my on online business if you of course would approve of this idea. I even have an idea on the website.” She said happy.

I looked at her with a large grin.

“Of course I would approve. I think it’s an amazing idea. It looks like we may be moving now” I said with a happy expression.

A sudden thought crept over me. “She won't be here forever” I thought suddenly and my happy mood sank quickly but kept the smile on my face the best I could.

“Are you ok?” Rarity asked as she looked at me with concern.

“Oh yeah I’m fine. I just thought how fast you’re growing up. It seems like only yesterday I brought you home and now look, you’re starting your own business.” I said as a cover for my thoughts.

“I know. It can be shocking. So you are you going to accept?” she said looking at me.

I looked back at her and nodded

“Yes. I’ll call them tomorrow and tell them I accept. We’d better start packing” I said to her with my happy expression coming back.

The thought still lingered in my head but I pushed it away. The next day I called Bernard with the number he had given me.

“Bernard Royce.” His voice said when he answered.

“Hi Bernard. It’s Saintclaire. I made my decision and I’m going to accept that offer.” I told him

“Excellent Mr.Saintclaire. I will come right over with the papers. Please have the deed ready.” He said.

“Thank you” I replied before I hung up the phone. As Bernard had said he was over in that same hour, this time his suit was now a hint of green with a black undershirt.

“A strange combination” I thought then realized I had been watching too many of Rarity’s shows.

His coworker Alfred was there again looking as friendly as the last time I had seen him. We sat in my living room again and went over the paperwork. He also filled out the check as I signed the deed releasing it to them.

“And there we are. I thank you for your decision and wish you the best. Please call this number when you have found a house you will be moving to. They’ll let me know. Have a good day Mr.Saintclaire” He said as I shook his hand for the second time.

“Guess we’d better start looking for another house” I said to myself as they drove off.

I took out a house hunter magazine and began to surf through the pages. Rarity came downstairs hearing the men leaving and sat next to me. “So where are we going to move? I want somewhere sunny and has plenty of space” She said to me

“Not sure. I was thinking Connecticut. it’s beautiful out there. Lots of country side that we can live in and avoid the city life.” I said to her.

She nodded happily.

“That would be amazing! I could start my own business and sell my items online and if you would be willing to ship them for me. I could even learn to drive and get a car and have plenty of fun and…” She continued on.

I chuckled seeing how happy she was and felt I had made a good choice. Things were so different since she had popped into my life. Not too long ago I was looking at a gun in my nhand and now I was selling my house and moving away from this town. As I turned the page I noticed a house for sale in the Connecticut country side. It was a light grey 2 level house with tons of rooms and even had a small shop on the side. \

“This one looks good” I said showing her. She nodded and smiled.

“It’s perfect” She said as we both looked at the picture.

A New Beginning

View Online

Moving day finally arrived. It took a couple of months to sort out everything to purchase the house but eventually we were able to get it and almost pay the whole thing off at once. We had rented a large moving truck and a couple of men to help us move. They began to remove the final items inside leaving just the empty rooms. Deciding for the one last time I walked through the house seeing the empty rooms and remembering all the memories I had there, it brought a slight tear to my eye but we were moving to better things.

“Hey dad where are you?” Rarity asked.

The movers had left a few minutes ago to start begin to set the other house leaving us alone so Rarity was able to walk around freely.

“What’s wrong?” She asked in her refined voice.

“Oh nothing. It’s just strange to be leaving. I’ve spent my whole life here” I said running my hand on the walls.

I didn’t even know if the house would still be here in the end or if they would just plow it down like all the others. I shook off the thoughts and began to think about the new house and new beginning we would have. After a 6 hours’ drive and a lot of small talk we finally reached our new home. The house was exactly what the picture showed it to be.

“Dad this house is amazing. I love it!” Rarity said excited as she jumped out of the car and looked over the house and around it as well.

The house sat by itself in the country side, only a small dirt road connected it to the main road which was about 2 miles away. It was the perfect location for them, far enough out that no one would bother them but close enough to the city that we could easily get supplies with a small drive. The only problem was money, I had saved up some cash over the last 10 years but I needed work. Thankfully instead of quitting at the restaurant it was closed and I was laid off. It made it easier to get unemployment but my search for a job would start once we were settled. Rarity had already made her way into the house and began exploring. I decided to walk in as well to explore our new home.

Inside was bigger than I had thought as I stepped into the living room. The walls were a light brown color and the floors were covered with a shiny hardwood finish. A staircase along the living room wall ran up to the upstairs area and at the bottom there was a large opening to the kitchen with only an island counter top separating the two rooms. Attached to the kitchen was a dining room which also leads into the living room by a small doorway. A hall connected to the kitchen as well running down past one of the offices and a bathroom before ending at the shop added on. I headed down the hall and entered the light purple shop. I instantly felt it was perfect for her, a large glass window with a glass door was on the front wall. A counter sat half way through the room and a wall separated the front from the back storage room. It was perfect for her equipment. I walked back to the living room the up the stairs to check out the upper level. All the bedrooms were here, 2 on each side and one bathroom on the right side. Rarity had already chosen her room which was the second biggest in the house and I chose the largest room to sleep in. I sat on the floor and looked around thinking.

“We’re going to be doing some massive amounts of make overs to this house. These walls are a hideous color.” Rarity said as she walked in.

“Oh yes but in time it will be our house. Our home where we will grow and live and have plenty of memories.” I said to her as she sat down with me.

“Well we’d better get started.” I said happily.

Time flew by so fast that a year had gone by since we moved in. I had been able to find a job in a local police department as a patrol officer and although It was a small department with only 15 officers in total but I didn’t mind, the pay was 3 times what I used to make and every one was nice so it was perfect for me. Rarity had been able to get her website up and running now and had complete success. We had converted the small shop into a workplace for her to make her dresses and jewelry. What was once empty was now filled with shelves and shelves of fabrics and gems sat along the left wall. A few different sewing machines occupied the right wall and the front wall held all her drawings and plans on a board. The front of the shop simply held mannequins with different dresses and apparel on. We set up an account for her with the bank so all her funds could be transferred easily from the purchases. Last time I had checked it had 6,000 or so in it. She was the happiest she had been knowing her business was a success. On my off time I had begun to teach her to drive to help her feel like a real teen. We were even able to buy her a white 2002 Pontiac Sunfire for her when she was ready to drive. She had been working hard on some costumes so she could go out into public but the idea worried me. She hadn’t had much contact with people and I wasn’t sure how she’d react. During the hours I worked she worked happily in her shop. Life was going perfectly.

Then the day came no parents ever wants. When their child runs away from home. It was about 3 years after we had moved in. I went out to the local town to pick up some groceries and a pair of tickets for the fall fashion show to be a gift for her birthday in a couple weeks. Since I didn’t know her real birthday I just made her birthday the day I found her. I just arrived home and walked in with my keys in hand. I placed down the bags and hid the tickets safely in the junk drawer in the counter.

“Rarity I’m home” I called out.

I hung up my keys and walked towards the living room. Spread out all over the room were different My Little Pony items. Postcards and dvds and notes from my books which were stuffed into a box during the move and forgotten laid on the floor and coffee table. I looked over to the couch to see Rarity glaring at me with tears.

“What is this?” She said with anger in her voice.

“I...I can explain…” I stammered to say.

She stomped over to me and looked up at me with a broken hearted eyes.

“Why did you not tell me about this? Why didn’t you tell me where I’d come from" Tears streamed down my face as she grew red from anger

“You knew about this! You knew all this THE WHOLE TIME but never bothered to tell me?!? How could you!” She screamed at me now fully crying.

“I didn’t know when would be the right time. I wanted to wait till you were older but when you were I found it hard. I was scared of how’d you react!” I said to her as tears fell to the floor.

She scoffed at me.

“I would like to have been told by my so called father instead of finding out this way!” She said to me with a cold voice.

I agreed with her and felt guilt rush over. I should have told her. I should have been there for her.

“I’ll be in my room. This is the worst thing you could have done. You’re not my father…” She said wiping her tears and walked upstairs.

I felt my heart explode as she slammed the door behind her. I wanted to so badly go upstairs and talk to her, to apologize but anything I said could make things worse so I let her cool off. I didn’t want to push her away anymore then I have. I started to pick up the items sitting all over the floor and placed them in the box sitting next to the couch.

It had been hours since the fight and I heard nothing from Rarity. I just stayed on the couch staring at the walls feeling guilt. I didn’t even bother to changing my clothes. I had decided to head up to her room to try and talk to her. I knocked on her door

“Can I come in?” I asked as I waited for a response.

There was nothing after few moments so I walked in. However I met with worry when I opened her door to find she was gone.

“Rarity?!?” I said with panic as I began to search around her room hoping she was just hiding.
“Rarity where are you?” I asked finding she wasn’t in her room.
“This can’t be happening!” I yelled as I rushed downstairs and to her shop.

To my regret it was also empty.

“Please don’t let her have run away” I said knowing my worst fear was coming true.

I rushed outside and looked around

“Rarity?! Rarity where are you?” I yelled only hearing my echo in return.

The sky outside was a dull grey and quiet rumbles of thunder could be heard in the distance. I grabbed my jacket from inside and began to walk towards the main road.

“Did she run into anyone out here? Did she head for town? Did someone take her?” Questions ran through my head like water as I called out here name

“Rarity please come home!” I yelled until I made it to the main road where the dirt met the pavement.

“She can’t be this far. I should get back home to wait for her. Maybe she’s already there” I said to myself turning around.

I got about half way back as the rain poured down. I was completely soaked to the bone and would most likely catch a cold from being out. I decided to find some shelter in the old farms. I scanned the area for anything and found a barn set off in the distance on an overgrown dirt path. I’d seen the barn a few times but never really saw anyone enter or exit it but then again I’d never really sat there staring at it. I figured that Rarity may have gone there to escape the rain as it was the only other structure for a few miles. With excitement I rushed over and swung open the door. The run had taken the breath out of me so I leaned against the side for a moment then looked around. To my surprise inside a few old trucks and farm equipment were parked. I had figured it would be empty. Looking around with excitement for Rarity soon faded into depression as I realized Rarity wasn’t here. A couple tears built up in my eyes as I sat down and leaned on the old 60’s Chevy pick-up parked in the middle. I laid my head on its fender and stared up.

“I was an idiot.” I began to say to myself.

“I should have told her about everything when she was young. Now she hates me and she’s gone… I’m so sorry Rarity… I failed as a father…” I said aloud as if she was next to me.

I put my face into my hands a tears dripped through my fingers

“I never meant to hurt or deceive you. I was afraid and I’m sorry. Please forgive me” I said through a couple of sniffles.

Suddenly I heard the sound of hoofsteps on the wood floor of the barn. I picked my head up to see Rarity staring at me with tears in her eyes. Her usually white coat was now off white color with dirt and mud spots all over it. Her mane was ruffled with split ends all over along with some hay from the barn being stuck. It’d looked like she had been sleeping in here.

“Rarity…” I said to her in shock.

“I heard everything you said… I was sleeping inside this old thing” She said to me trying to fight her tears.

“I forgive you dad… I may have… overreacted to the situation” She added in sitting down next to me.

She leaned on me not caring that I was soaked. She buried her head into my side

“I’m sorry dad” She said now beginning to cry. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her closely.

“You had every right to be mad at me. I should have told you.” I said to her. She looked up at me

“I know I’m real and I know that we are not a normal family.” She began with. “It was wrong that I yelled at you like that and what I had said. I was just confused and angry.” She finished with.

“I understand why you were mad though. I’ll tell you everything about it if you want.” I told her.

She nodded as she was curious. We sat there for the next few hours as I explained about her history and when I had found her and how she changed my life to her. Eventually we got to a point of just silence as we sat there with each other. I wasn’t sure if she was shocked or was just happy to be with me. I enjoyed it sitting with her listening to the rain. Soon the rain slowed enough that we could walk home. She looked at me

“I really need a shower” She said then sniffed me “And you could use one as well dad” she said chuckling.

I laughed back with a smile as we got up and headed home with smiles on our faces.

Heartbreak

View Online

It was edging onto 11 years since we moved into our new house leaving behind the old town. I was heading home from a late night shift one evening during the summer. With my work I was now a Captain in the department and was given a take home cruiser which I drove most of the time. As I drove home I had a strange feeling everything Rarity and I had was going to come to an end. An empty feeling in my chest seemed cold compared to the rest of my body. The thought worried me as I turned into the garage pulled in to my spot. I collected myself and headed for the house. I placed my keys and gun belt on the hook by the door. Rarity was lying on the couch watching her usual fashion designer show when she looked at me while I looked around the room. The once lightly brown room was now a shade of blue. Pictures of Rarity and I hung on all the walls and small items Rarity had made were scattered around. I smiled as I looked around.

“Hey dad” She said with a smile. She then noticed me looking around the room “Are you ok?” she asked me curious.

I nodded to her with a smile

“Yes I am just happy to be home.” I said to her hiding the real reason.

The remote had a blue glow around it as she moved it to her to turn up the volume.

“So which one is this?” I asked her sitting down in my recliner.

“They are release the newest summer fashions. Fall is next on the list then winter.” She said excited.

I got a churning in my stomach suddenly as I heard a knock at the door. We both sat in shock. As long as we’ve been here no one has ever come over, we thought everyone had forgotten about this street. I mean we lived on a street that didn’t even have a name.

“Rarity head up to your room while I see who it is” I said calmly to her.

She nodded and headed off for her room. The churning got worse as I reached for the door knob and opened it to see a surprising and yet expected face. Princess Celestia was stand at my door and I instantly knew why. She stood almost as tall as I was, her mane moved gently even though there was no wind outside. My heart dropped once she began to speak.
“Hello sir. I am truly sorry to bother you this evening.” She said with a polite tone.

“It’s no problem. What can I help you with?” I asked her.

“I was curious to if I may enter your home. I have rather important business to discuss with you.” She said in a refined voice.

“Please come in” I said almost regretting it as I stepped out of the way and she walked in.

Behind her followed Twilight and Sweetie Belle. I closed the door once they entered and turned to them

“Would any of you care for a drink?” I asked.

“I’ll have some water!” Sweetie Belle said with her small voice.

“And you?” I asked Celestia and Twilight.

“Nothing for me thank you” Both Twilight and Celestia replied together.

I grabbed a cup of water and handed it to Sweetie Belle.

“Please take a seat” I said and they proceeded to all sit.

Celestia took a second recliner while Sweetie Belle sat on the other couch I had. Twilight was about to sit down on the couch Rarity claimed as her own when I interrupted her with an offer for my chair instead. She looked at me confused but agreed with the chair.

“So what is this important business you needed to speak to me about?” I asked her.

She cleared her throat before speaking

“I would like to first start with my name. I am Princess Celestia, Ruler of Equestria.” She said with a confident voice “I believe you know. We are here to bring her home.” Celestia said calmly.

I felt my heart drop even further than it did before.

"Oh… I see…” I said with sorrow. “Where is she? I wish to see her” Celestia said looking around the room.

She noticed all the pictures with Rarity.

“My you two have done a lot in such a short time. Become very close” She commented.

“Short time? How is 17 years a short time?” I thought to myself. “I’ll go get her. Be right back” I said to her as I walked for the stairs almost dragging my feet as I reached her room. I opened it to find her waiting for me

“Have they left dad?” She asked then saw my face “what’s wrong?” She asked knowing the guests downstairs had something to do with this.

“I need you to come downstairs. There is something of importance we need to handle” I said as a few tears built up in my eyes.

“Ok” She said.

I walked down the stairs first as she followed, each step echoing within my head. Once she got to the bottom Sweetie Belle instantly bolted off the couch and tackled Rarity in a hug

“Sis!! I thought I wouldn't see you again!!” Sweetie Belle shouted with excitement.

However Rarity was the exact opposite. She pushed Sweetie Belle off of her

“Dad who are these strange people. What’s going on here?” Rarity asked panicked.

Everyone stared in shock as Rarity had called me dad.

“Sir do you mind explaining this?” Celestia said with a stern voice.

Rarity glared at Celestia as I stood next to her.

“Please have a seat Rarity. Do you remember what I told you a few years ago? About your past?” I asked her.

She nodded quickly as I looked at them

“Well these are the ponies from there. They come from your home” I told her.

“But this is my home dad. I live here, with you, not in that place you told me about... right?” She asked starting to tear up.

I sighed again as i knelled down next to her

“The thing is where they came from is your real home” I said with a heavy tone in my voice.

Celestia had grown impatient with my lack of a response to her question.

“Sir please explain yourself. Why does she call you father?” She asked in a stern voice again.

“Because he is my father.” Rarity snapped at her.

The ponies looked shocked as Rarity moved closer to me.I turned to Celestia and asked

"How long has it been in your world since she came here?” Celestia stopped for a moment and thought

“Let’s see. I believe it was fourteen days ago. Why do you ask? Hasn’t it only been that long here?” She said confused to my question. I stood shock by the number.

“Only fourteen days?!” I asked out loud. She looked at me even more confused

“Yes that is what I said” she told me. I looked directly at her.

“No it hasn't been just fourteen days, it's been almost 17 years. I found Rarity when she was just a little filly" He replied holding back what frustrations he felt towards Celestia's lack of understanding.

"seventeen years... now it seems to all makes sense to me." She replied with a more sympathetic tone.

The other ponies sat quietly listening in shock by the number.

“Can you tell me something?” I asked Celestia.

“Yes you may.” She asked back.

“How did she end up in my world? What actions lead to this?” I asked.

Celestia looked toward our direction then to Twilight before she spoke

“Well I was not present when it happened but my pupil Twilight Sparkle was. I will let her explain.” Celestia said as Twilight stood up.

“Hello sir. I would firstly like to apologize for this. I am Twilight Sparkle." She said in a proper tone as she stood up

"I was testing out a spell to help her make her dresses and outfits faster as her fashions were becoming more and more popular. I cast the spell on the machines with a thrilling success at first. Unfortunately something went wrong and I caused the machines to short out. The magic I had used and the power of the machines somehow warped the universe causing a portal between our world and yours. There was only one other story in which this had happened. ” Twilight said to me.

I was still a little shocked

“But how do you explain her turning back into a young filly? Or how she did not have her cutiemark?” I asked Twilight.

She looked at me

“I’m not sure but it seems a type of time reversal happens when ponies come into your world.” She finished with before sitting down.

"So now you know as to why my young pony end up here in your orld. I am however regretfully telling you that it is time for her to return to her home." Celestia said as all my fears of this day were coming true

Rarity moved closer to me.

“I don’t want to go…” She said.

Celestia looked at her then to me, knowing I was the only one who could talk to her. Rarity would listen to me. I turned to Rarity and kneelled down.

“Listen I know how hard this is to think of, it’s hard for me to but it has to happen. It’s your home where yo…” I was cut off

“NO! This is my home and this is where I belong. I want to stay here and not go with these strangers! IIsn’t there a way I can stay here with my dad?” Rarity asked Celestia.

“I’m sorry Rarity but there is no way. You cannot survive in this world, you belong with us in Equestria.” Celestia said calmly.

“But I have lasted this long! I…” I lifted my hand to stop her.

As much as I hated the thought I saw her point. Here Rarity was either stuck to the house or had to wear a costume. In her world she would be free to go where she wanted. I turned to Rarity

“She is right Rarity. That is where you belong. I’m not saying this is not your home but that is your true home” I said to her

“But dad!” She started but I cut her off.

“Listen. Me agreeing with her does not mean I don’t love you, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I love you more than I have ever loved anything in my life. You were a blessing in my life the moment I found you. You saved my life that day and in return I cared for you and taught you to the best of my abilities how to be a proper and well-mannered mare. I gave you ever bit of love I had and made sure you were happy, but now it is a time that you must return to your home. Everyone has to eventually leave the nest and go on their own path. I know its heart breaking but now it’s time for you to be free, to go out on your own and return to your true family” I said as I fought back crying.

Rarity had started to cry aswell as the other ponies. Even Celestia, who as a princess is supposed to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in these situations found herself in tears at the heartbreaking goodbye.

“You had become my daughter over this time. Do you remember the first time you said I love you? That moment was the happiest day of my life, you saved my life and changed me. You took me from a cold, depressed, uncaring man who was at the end of his rope preparing to end his life and turned me into a happy joyful father. Now I want to give you something back.” I said hugging her tightly.

She hugged back as her tears began to soak the shoulder on my shirt. Time seemed to slow down as I didn’t want to let go but I knew I had to. Rarity stood up and looked at Celestia then at me.

“Since my dad thinks it’s the best I will go.” She said wiping away tears. I stood up next to her.

“First let me get something” She said and ran up the stairs before we could say anything.

She came running down the stairs with a note pad and pen in her mouth. She placed the note pad down and using her magic wrote a small note then left it on top of the table.

“You don’t read that until I’m gone” She ordered.

Celestia stood up and turned to Twilight.

“Twilight, do you think you can perform the spell to return us to our home?"” Celestia asked as she tried to collect herself. "Once you do the spell should return her memories and repair this damage.

Twilight nodded as Rarity looked once more at me.

“I will never forget you daddy. I love you.” She said.

I couldn’t hold it in anymore and I began to cry.

“I love you to. I won’t forget you either my little princess.” I said falling to my knees.

Celestia walked over to me and placed her hoof on my shoulder as I buried my face in my hands.

“I am truly sorry for this but I am only looking out for my own” She said to me compassionately to me. “I thank you though. I know this is hard but I am truly grateful you found her. If you hadn’t taken her in I fear she may not have lasted this long in your world. You are a good man, a good father. That is what makes this harder.” She added in with a regretful tone as she turned away

. I looked up to her and then to Rarity once more. Twilight’s eyes and horn began to glow as she walked over to Rarity.\

“I love you daddy!!” She said as Twilight touched her forehead.

Suddenly there was a bright flash which blinded me. I awoke the following morning in my bed

“Was it all a dream? I asked myself dazed by still I rushed out and to Rarity’s room. When I opened the door I was greeted with disappointment. Instead of seeing Rarity’s room I saw a simple storage room. The pink walls, which had posters and drawings all over them, were now a simple grey color and the purple carpet was now a plain tiled floor. All the furniture was gone and only a couple of shelves sat in their place with random junk placed on them. In that moment I suddenly realized it wasn’t a dream at all. I walked down the stairs to see the living room lay empty except for the furniture and me, the walls which were once a shade of blue and covered with pictures of Rarity and I were now the light shade of brown when we had moved in and the pictures were all gone. All her fashion magazines which littered the table were now replaced with a simple TV guide. I walked down the hall towards Rarity’s shop in hopes of seeing it set up still however when I opened the door the shop was completely empty. All the machines and mannequins were now just a few boxes stacked up. I just stared at the room when it hit me that she was really gone. Celestia had wiped out any and all proof that Rarity even existed in this world. I then was baffled to why I still had my memories. Every memory I shared with Rarity was still in my head. I walked out into the living room. I then thought “It was when she put her hoof on me. She must have saved my memories while she wiped out all other proof.

“Why though… why would she let me keep my memories” I said . “She must have known how much I cared for her.” I said I noticed a book sitting on the table by my chair.

It was my old photo album my mom had started. She gave it to me a year before they passed away. She wanted me to take up the hobby of photography as I used to love to take pictures. I sat down and opened the book to its first page. Inside sat 2 pictures. The first was of my mom holding me when I was a new born. My dad stood in the background with his goofy smile he always had on. The other was my 10th birthday. It was simply my mom and dad standing there with me in the middle. I had an awkward face on while the picture was taken which we laughed about for years to come. I began flipping through the pages seeing all the pictures of family trips and gatherings along with pictures of my dad’s new cars all with dates. Then the pictures stopped. There was one picture of my parent’s grave. Then there was nothing. The next 5 pages were blank. I continued to flip through until I saw a yellow piece of paper. It was the note Rarity had written just before she left. I knew the magic writing. It simply read….

"Dear dad, This letter is a reminder that everything that happened was real. The day you found me saved both our lives and I will always be enternally grateful to you. You are, no matter what they might say my true dad and I will always be you daughter no matter what. Please do not stop living your life and I will promise to live my life. Please also take this small gift I left for you. I love you dad.

Your daughter, Rarity"

On the bottom of the note was a small pin with a gem in it that Rarity had made. I placed the pin on my shirt and held the note for a moment. I placed the note back hooking into a spot where a photo would have been. The picture next to it was the first picture I had taken. It was only a day after I found her, she looked baffled by my camera when I took it. She always hated the picture. I smiled a bit through teary eyes as I flipped through the pages. Every picture I had ever taken was now in this book, now the only physical reminder of the 17 years with Rarity. I flipped back to the note again and read it again. I could even almost hear her speaking as if she was reading it to me. I spent hours looking over the photo album remember all the time with her.

The Morning After

I wasn’t sure when I had fallen asleep when I awoke to the sound of my alarm slightly in the background, that annoying buzzing was loud enough to even wake me down here. I had fallen asleep in the recliner with the photo album open on my chest. I let out a small yawn as I placed it on the table and with a stretch I walked out of the living room and towards the upstairs. After a few moments I was set for work I began walking for the stairs when I glanced at Rarity’s room while a few memories played through my head. With regret I opened the door to look to see the storage room was still there. Normally my heart would have dropped but after yesterday I didn’t even feel my heart anymore, I felt a numbness just like before I found her.

"Why did it have to be this way..." I asked myself

I locked the door from the inside and gently shut it for the last time, I never intended to enter the room again. Then with a sigh I shuffled my way to the garage and towards my cruiser. The bay next to my police car was my truck, covered with a tarp and ready for the winter time. The bay behind the truck, which once held Rarity’s car was now empty with only a small work station that held a few parts and boxes. The sight simply made my mood worse as I climbed in and left. After a bit I arrived at work and pulled into my usual parking spot.

“Hey Renton.” Rebecca greeted me with her usual happy expression.

Rebecca was the reception officer who welcomed everyone to the station. She had a uniform and gun but she never went out on patrol. She enjoyed her job inside the station and always provided a happy face which helped my pain a little.

“Hey Rebecca. What’s up?” I asked her as she noticed my face

“Are you ok Renton? Is something wrong?” She asked me with concern.

I frowned as she asked

“I lost someone very dear to me last night.” I said to her as I walked towards the back

“Oh my I’m so sorry. Do you need anytime off? I could talk to the chief.” She asked but I declined.

I didn’t want to be alone. Being alone meant I was left with my thoughts to run wild, at least at work I was able to have distractions.

“If you need anything I’m here for you.” She said holding my hand for a moment.

I smiled back at her

“thanks Rebecca. You’ve always been a great friend.” I said then walked to my desk.

I looked over the crowded desk at the mountain of paperwork in front of me.

"Better get started" I mumbled as a few other guys walked over for some small talk which I was happy with, it kept my mind occupied for a little but my thoughts always drifted back to one question

"How is she?".

Meanwhile in Equestria, Rarity had been returned to her home. Celestia looked over Rarity as she peacefully slept in her bed, she was happy that Rarity had been returned home easily enough. She turned to leave the room and was met by Twilight, Pinkie and Applejack.

“Applejack and Pinkie. Could you please watch over her and make sure she is alright. Keep me updated on her as well, I want to make sure that Twilight’s spell worked” the princess said in her usual tone.

They both nodded happily to her. Celestia then turned to Twilight

“Twilight I need to discuss something of importance with you. She said as Twilight nodded. They left the small boutique walking side by side “Twilight I need you to research this event. I want you to see if there is any information we could possibly find to perfect this method of travel. We could use this to travel to various areas or countries, even distant worlds if they're any others. I will of course place you as lead of the research team of our best” The princess spoke in an assertive tone

. “You can trust me princess. I'll learn everything I can.” She said excitedly as they left for Canterlot.

Back at the boutique Applejack and Pinkie were caring for Rarity as hours flew by before she woke up. She looked around the room as Pinkie jumped onto the bed.

“Rarity!” Pinkie said excited. "This is amazing that you're awake and that your back with us, isn't that great!?! I mean it hasn't been that long since you vanished but still anytime away from friend's is a long time to me..." Pinkie went on and on rambling as she usually did.

However Rarity did not smile as she stared at this unknown pony in front of her, in fact she began to sadden as she looked around the room

"Where am I?" She asked with a depressing tone

"Ya'll are home now, back with us in Ponyville" Applejack answered in her southern tone

"So I'm back in Equestria? Is my dad here? Was he able to come with us?" She asked in hopes I would walk in

"Yes you are and uh... no but from what the princess said he's back at his home on that funny named place safe and sound. Only ya'll got brought back to here" Applejack answered trying to calm her down.

Tears began to build in her blue eyes as she thought about how she left me all alone back on Earth.

"But you're here with us, your friends. Isn't that good?" Pinkie said as a frown began to take over her smile and her fluffy mane flattened.

"i'm sorry, I truly am and you seem nice enough, but I want my father. I want to go home" Rarity said in a saddened tone as tears dripped onto the blanket

Pinkie was about to speak but Applejack cut her off

"Ah think we should give her some time" AJ said as she lead Pinkie out of the room. "Anything you need just holler" she added before closing Rarity's door

"But Applejack w..."

"We need to give her some time to adjust and heal, she went through alot from what the princess said. Ah can’t even think to how hard last night musta been for her, to be torn away after that kinda time" Aj said as she turned to Pinkie.

"I guess, wait I know, I'll make some cupcakes! That will cheer her up" pinkie said before darting off into the kitchen.

"Ah hope so..." Aj said quietly as she walked into the kitchen. A few days had gone by and Rarity hadn't changed her mood. She spent all her time in her room staring out the window

"I miss you dad... This may be a house but it's not my home" She quietly said as a brezze gently went by.

Up in Canterlot Twilight had been working on the situation but was finding nothing. Her mane was all raggedy and huge bags were under her eyes as she hadn't slept much in the past few days. She was too busy digging through whatever information she could find about the portal. Celestia walked into the lab and looked towards Twilight

"Twilight my dear student, you do not look at all well. Have you been sleeping?" She asked concerned as Twilight turned to her

"We'll I've gotten a few hours in the last couple days but I've been too busy to sleep. I can't seem to find anything about this. Whatever information we gathered is useless as of now and we can't recreate the incident." She answered flustered as she rushed around the lab.

"I am not surprised by this but you have done well with what you have found. You should get some rest though, it's not healthy for a young mare to have a lack of sleep such as this." Celestia said to Twilight in a sweet tone. "However the research was not my reason for coming down here. I have received a few bits of worrying news. It seems that Rarity's current condition has not bettered in the last few days. It seems she still posses her memories from her time on Earth. I am concerned about her well being." Celestia said as Twilight followed her out of the room.

However just as they started to leave an energy detector they had began to go crazy with the magically energy causing another portal to begin to open.

"We're getting a reading of strange energy that's going off the charts. I's very similar to the type of energy when the portal had been opened, it's almost like something still has a connection between our worlds." The scientist said as they scrambled around trying to get all the information they can.

Celestia looked displeased as she listened to them scramble around

"I may know where this connection is" She said quickly as

Meanwhile back on earth it had been 3 months since Rarity left. The time had been difficult alone, I spent most of my nights in my recliner with my photo album, very rarely did I use my bed anymore. I fell asleep whenever I did. Sleep had become something enjoyable now because for the past few weeks I was having strange dreams, dreams of my time with Rarity and the memories playing in my head. There was even dreams where it felt like she was next to me. I knew they were only dreams as she probably didn’t remember me but they felt so real so my dreams were a sense of happiness. when I was awake my time was spent doing paperwork and helping out on cases. It helped to keep my mind occupied until i could sleep again. During the few months I had been able to minimize the amount of paperwork in the station and even figured out a new method for organization. The others in the officers were happy that the backlogged files was slowly being done away with. All except Rebecca who worried about me everyday, she always checked on me and offered a helping hand. If it wasn’t for her smiling face I may have been a lot worse now. Despite the pain I felt and the longing to see Rarity again she made it easier to go about my day.

The drive home was the usual quiet ride with only the radio softly playing music in the background just muffling the sound of the wipers sliding clearing the windshield. The rain fell steady but light as I turned onto my street and began to head home but with no real desire to go home and sit around for hours I pulled The cruiser struggled in the mud, covering the sides and rear as it finally reached the front of the barn. The barn was exactly what I had remembered with the brown siding covering it. I opened the wooden door and walked inside. Relief came over me as the inside was exactly the same. The old Chevy which Rarity and I sat against for hours remained parked in the middle along with the other equipment. I sat down in the exact place I did before and rested my head against the fender. I sat there for a good hour just thinking of everything that has happened in my life. Suddenly there was a loud thump coming from the rear of the truck. I turned my head to see Rarity walking up to me. “R…Rarity?” I asked baffled. I first thought this was another dream. For the past few months I had been reliving my memories with Rarity as I slept. This was different though. She had a confused look on her face “Daddy is that you?” She asked. “Yes honey it is.” I told her with a smile. She ran over and hugged me, accidently jabbing her horn into my side. I ignored the small pain and hugged her back “I’ve missed you dad. I wish I didn’t leave” She said crying. “I’ve missed you to. It’s been hard living alone again” I told her. I lightly pet her mane moving my fingers through the curls getting a few strands of hair by accident. This felt so much more real than any other dream I had have with her. “Dad I will come back. I promise. I lo…” She was cut off by a loud boom. I suddenly awoke to the sound of thunder outside as the rain poured down. I shook myself awake and felt the pain in my side from where Rarity’s horn had jabbed me. “Ow! Wait that was where she….was it real?” I asked myself standing up. I shook my head before heading for the barn door. However when I went to pick my hand to open the door there was a few purple strands of hair “Is this… No way that can’t be” I said baffled.

Back in Equestria Rarity suddenly snapped awake at her desk and looked around. Outside it was pouring from a thunderstorm. “It felt so real…” She said to herself as she heard voices outside. “Ya’ll could have warned us about this storm!” Applejack said to Rainbow Dash. “We didn’t make this storm. We had sunny weather planned this week and a rainstorm this weekend.” Rainbow countered with. “Oh so it just formed itself? Applejack said back. “Yes! As weird as that is” Rainbow said before Rarity decided to lay in her bed. In Equestria 2 weeks had gone by since Rarity returned. Up in Canterlot Princess Celestia rushed into the lab “I received your letter of an update.” She said as the main scientist walked out “Yes Princess Celestia. We’ve had a major breakthrough. Over the past 2 weeks we’ve been seeing more and more of the trail the wormhole left behind. There have even been points where it opened again revealing small amounts of the other world as if someone was opening it from either end. We’ve been working on a device which should hopefully, when we get the information stabilize a wormhole for our use. I have yet to discover if it will be able to open it into other worlds but this is still amazing.” He said excited to her. “Do you also have any idea on this strange weather. I have a report of some strange storms in Ponyville” She asked. “Yes we do actually. Due to the un-stabilized nature of this wormhole it seems to be bringing in this odd weather and other things. Once we stabilize this it should return to normal” He said to her. “Well see that you do” she replied before she walked over to Twilight who was still working. “Twilight.” The princess said. “I received a letter from your friends that Rarity has not gotten any better. Have you found anything?” she asked. Twilight shook her head no with regret. “It is ok. Please go home and get some sleep. It looks as though you haven’t slept in all this time. I have a few important decisions to make now” Princess Celestia said. “But princess.” She strated but wasn’t able to finished without a yawn “the scientists will work while you are away. You have done all you can and need some good rest. Your friends have also written to me that they miss you so you should spend some time with them” She said with a smile as Twilight nodded. The princess head to her room to think over her decisions. In the next few weeks would be a choice made that would forever effect everyone.

8 months had gone by since Rarity left. Things had begun to return to normal over the last few months. I had begun to sleep in my bed again and on a normal schedule. The pain which had begun out of control was now a controllable and most days went by well. Getting dressed quickly and sipping down a cup of coffee I was ready to face the day. The drive to work was also pleasant. People were working outside or walking and every so often someone would wave to me as I drove by. My cruiser rumbled slightly as I pulled into my spot out front and turned it off. As I walked in I saw Rebecca sitting behind the desk typing on her computer. She stopped suddenly seeing me a noticed my happier expression “Good to see you Renton” She said to me smiling big herself. “It’s nice to see you aswell.” I replied to her as I went to walk back. She walked back to her seat when I turned around and asked “Hey… umm Rebecca?” I asked her walking to the desk “Yes Renton?” She asked back. “I was curious to if you want to come over later tonight. If you don’t have anything else to do I mean” I asked her as my face got a little red. I hadn’t asked a girl out since I was in the 10th grade. Rebecca’s face lit up as I asked her “Yes! I would love to!” She said trying to contain her excitement. “Awesome. Is 6:30 ok? Well have some dinner at my place” I said to her. She nodded happily at the idea. “Well I shall see you later tonight then” I said to her as I walked into the back. I was in shock that I had just done that but was content with it. Tonight would be a ton of fun having some company over after all the alone time.

The day flew by with almost the blink of an eye to my surprise. I had asked to leave early to set up for tonight’s arrangements and I needed to figure out a dinner and cook it well, something I haven’t done in years. “First off to home to make sure the place was neat and tidy for her arrival” I said with a happy tone. leaning was the least of my worries over the months and with no one to notice it didn’t hurt until now. When the house was in visibility I noticed something different. A car was sitting out front. “Maybe Rebecca thought I said 3:30 instead of 6:30?” I asked myself as I got closer. I knew the car almost immediately as I pulled into the driveway. It was a Pontiac Sunfire with pure white paint the blue stripes. It even had the license plate I had registered for her. This sighting threw me off as I parked behind it. As soon as I got out of the car my attention to the mysterious car was detoured by the smell of cooking food. It was a heavenly aroma which filled the air coming from my house. I rushed up to the door but opened it slowly to not spook whoever was inside. I unclipped the holster on my gun and got ready for the worse. However as I opened the door my hands fell to my sides. The walls in the living room were the shade of blue Rarity had picked out and the photos and items were all back exactly where they were before everything happened. Everywhere in the house was spotless and not a single thing was out of place. I walked in with my mouth open when to my surprise I was greeted by an all pink pony. “Hey! You must be her dad that Rarity was talking about!” Pinkie said with a smile. She bounced in her place excited about the party she had planned for today. “You’re gonna have a blast” She said and she bounced off

“Yeah… I am…” I said barely able to comprehend what was happening. Then a crash came from the garage. I walked over and opened the door to hear “I told ya’ll not to put that there. Nah ya don’t listen” A voice with a southern accent said. Inside to my surprise I find Rainbow Dash and Applejack standing by some shelves pulling old decorations off them. “No you didn’t. You let me do it!” Rainbow said to her back. “I said do not to hay for brains” AJ said then noticed me standing at the door. “Howdy yall. Welcome to uhhh… your house” AJ said as she usually greeted people to her home. “Thanks… “I said still not believing my eyes. This must have been another one of those strange dreams. “Carry on” I said as they nodded and messed around with the boxes. As I walked inside I saw Fluttershy walk by with a stack of dishes on her back “So sorry sir. Excuse me” She said in her soft and shy voice. Celestia was soon to following carrying a few more dishes. She looked at me and smiled before placing them down “I am sure you did not expect to see us again so soon.” She said to me. “I can agree with you on that for sure” I said finally getting out a full sentence as my mind was finally gripping onto the situation. “If you are looking for Rarity I believe she is in her room.” Celestia said as she went to help Fluttershy set the table. I nodded to her as I headed for the stairs. My knees were shaking and my heart raced as I reached outside the door. I could hear voices talking inside as I reached for the door knob. To my surprise the door knob was back on the door as if I never touched it. With hands shaking I began to open the door slowly.

As the door opened the voices slowly got louder and I could hear Twilight’s voice mostly. I could see the walls were once again pink with the white trim which was covered in posters and all her furniture was returned to where it sat once before. Twilight and Rarity turned hearing the door bump the wall as it opened. A couple of tears came to my eyes when I saw her sitting there. “Ra…Rarity?” I asked still not sure if this was a dream. I walked over as Rarity began to walk and we met in the center of the room. I fell to my knees wrapping my arms around her as she wrapped her forelegs around me “I missed you so much!” I said unable to hold back my tears anymore. Rarity held tighter to me “I missed you to daddy. I don’t ever want to leave again” She said as we held each other much like we did all those years ago. Twilight smiled with a tear in the background before stepping forward “I am sorry to bother you but I believe Celestia would like to speak with you” She said and we separated from our hug. “I do have a few questions for you ponies” I said as we walked downstairs. “Eveypony come to the living room” Celestia said as we enter the room. After a moment all the ponies had found seats all over the room leaving 2 recliners open for Rarity and myself.

“I am sure you are wondering a quite a few things at this moment.” Celestia began. “You wouldn’t believe how many questions are buzzing around my brain right now” I said to her with a chuckle. “Let mt first apologize for our encounter a short time ago. I must say it was not my best side” She said hanging her head a little low. “You were just looking out for you fellow pony. I can understand” I said with a smile to her. She lifted her head as she began to speak again “Thank you. Now first I would like to tell you on how we got here.” She said clearing her throat to speak. “As soon as we had gotten back to Equestria I told the scientist to research this strange event to see if we could somehow stabilize it for our own use wither it was in Equestria or elsewhere. They began work immediately. After a few weeks they had finally found a method to stabilize it and built a device to help.” She said then I jumped in “Wait a few weeks? It’s only been a few months here. It should be only a few hours for you?” I asked her confused. “That was part of the side effect of this. Our time differences grew closer and eventually stabilized to out week is your month. Or so the scientists calculated.” She answered with. “That doesn’t explain why you’re here now though.” I responded with. “Well that was actually my choice to come here. It seems when Twilight attempted the memory spell it only partially worked. Rarity had all her memoires of Ponyville returned but also had her memoires of life on earth. The memory spell was supposed to replace those memories with her originals. We attempted to research the answers on this matter but we learned that this situation was a first in the history of Equestria. Since she remembered everything that happened while she was here she regretted coming back. I was hoping it would fade off but after the 5th week it did not. I felt rather guilty for taking her away from such a loving father. So I decided to give her the choice. Once the wormhole was stabilized she could return back to you. We decided to follow and prepare you a large meal and party to help welcome her back. All of this was of course Pinkie’s idea.” Celestia said as Pinkie hopped up and down in excitement. “We got games and prizes and all sorts of sweets and fun stuff for it too!!” Pinkie said before AJ pulled her into her seat. “Hold on sugar cube and let them finish up” She said to Pinkie and Pinkie nodded in agreement.

“So Rarity can stay with me?” I asked her slightly shocked. After the incident I hated Celestia. Now I looked at the princess with a different opinion. “Yes she can. I see now the error of my ways. I thought for the good of the group and not for the individual. It was not my place to remove her from a loving home.” Celestia said. Surprise took over her aswell as the other ponies when I had gotten up and hugged her. “Thank you” I said softly to her. She smiled embracing the hug and hugged back “No thank you. For protecting her and for showing me a new light.” Celestia said in a soft tone aswell. “Well now I heard something about a party and food?” I asked once Celestia and I ended the hug. Just as I asked the bell on the stove rang and dinner was done. “Let’s get some food” I said. After a little set up time with some magic dinner was set and we all sat at the table. I felt happy because it felt like I had a family, a feeling that had been absent even before my parents passed. It felt like this was meant to be. Like I belong in their life and they belonged in mine. Rarity looked at me as I had a goofy smile on my face “Dad you ok?” She asked. I nodded to her and smiled “I am perfectly fine” I said. Just as we were about to eat though there was a knock at the door. Everyone looked over quickly “You expecting anyone dad?” Rarity asked. I glanced at the time and noticed it was 6:30. With the shock of Rarity returning I had completely forgotten about Rebecca’s arrival and the plan we made. “Oh crud!” I said getting up and walking towards the door. “I’ll be right back.” I said as I opened the door and stepped out closing it quickly behind me. “Hey Renton. What’s up? You seem almost surprised I’m here” Rebecca said. I was about to speak when I looked at her. She was wearing a simple back dress on instead of her uniform which was a first for me. She also had her hair down and resting on her shoulder. I’d only seen her wearing her uniform and it threw me off a bit. “I see you must live in your uniform” She commented giggling as I was still fully dressed with even my duty belt on. “The food smells amazing aswell. I didn’t realize you were a cook.” She asked as she went for the door but I stepped in the way “Listen this is going to be hard to explain but I can’t let you in yet.” I said to her as she looked at me.

“Why? If your place is a little messy I don’t mind. Believe me whatever it is I’ve probably seen worse” She said with a chuckle but I still blocked the door. “It’s not mess it’s ummm….” I trailed off. “Seriously tell me what’s up here. I drove all this way to just be turned away?” She asked beginning to get annoyed. I looked back and forth before letting out a sigh. “Listen I planned to have you come over and come in aswell. It’s just I had some unexpected company arrival without my knowledge.” I said scratching my head with a smile on. “Oh is it embarrassing family or something? Embarrassed to introduce me?” She asked with a glare. “No no no it’s not that it’s just… well they aren’t exactly a normal type of family. I’m just afraid you’ll be scared off by them. She laughed a little “What are they circus clowns or murders or something? Whatever they are I can deal with them. Families love me anyway.” She said now trying to get around my defense. With a sigh I looked at her “Alright I’ll let you in but please do not panic or be too surprised” I told her. “I promise” She said as I opened the door. The smell of the food drifted out as the door opened. We walked into the living room as she glanced around “Nice home you have here. I love the blue.” She said hearing noises in the dining room. I turned back to her quickly “Alright now I’m just going to tell them you’re here. I’ll have you come in after it.” I told her. She nodded and I walked towards the room soon turning the corner “Ok everypony I have a guest over here. Please treat her well.” I said before gesturing for her to come in. As soon as she walked round the corner her smile soon faded into shock as she stumbled back.

Just barely catching her before she fell I said “I told you you wouldn’t believe me if I told you”. She gasped for air for a second as her breathing had stopped from shock before saying “You family is.. ponies?” She asked in disbelief. “Yes they are.” I replied with a straight face. “I would like to introduce you to them if you don’t mind and give you a little explanation as to why they are” saying as Rarity helped me get her into an empty chair. “Rebecca I would like to introduce you to my daughter.” I said as Rarity stepped forward. “Hello my dear. You must be the mysterious guest we’ve heard about. A pleasure to meet you” She said in a refined tone. “Wait they speak?” Rebecca simply said. I sighed as Rarity spoke gain “I know this may be difficult to understand but we are as normal as you. We’re just in a pony form” She added in. Rebecca finally began to understand everything but was still in a state of shock. “So this is your daughter.” She asked. “Yes. Let me explain the story to you.” I said. We all grabbed some food as I told her the whole story of how I found Rarity and raised her, who the other ponies were, why they were here, and finally ending with who each one was. “I see now. It all makes since” She said now fully understanding the situation. “I must apologize for how I acted before. It was rude.” Rebecca said looking at everyone. “You can just see as to why I was shocked. But it is a pleasure to meet you all.” She said. Everyone greeted her back, all with smiles as they ate happily together. Soon after dinner we pulled up the old photo album and began a slideshow of the history between Rarity and I. Half way through Rarity spoke up “I almost forgot a surprise I was going to show you.” She said signaling to Twilight to follow her “We’ll be right back” he said before her and Twilight disappeared around the corner. Soon there was a purple glow along with some chuckles and then clothes shuffling around. After a minutes Rarity shouted “Ready!” We all looked in curiosity as she turned the corner. However this time she was not in pony form but in human form.

I stared in awe as she walked out. Her skin was a smooth beige color. Her mane was now a flowing head of hair similar to the style it always was and her cutiemarks were now on either thigh. “How is this possible?” I asked. “It was all Twilights doing. She found a spell in her research which could, with a little work change a pony’s appearance to whatever they may want. It was surprisingly easier than we thought it would be. So easy infact I can do it myself with a little work” She said spinning around to show off. “This mean you can join me out in town now” I said excited to show her the town. She’d never had the chance to see the town before. “I have also signed an agreement to allow Rarity to live her life on Earth with you. Another part of my apology” She said with a smile. My smiled stretched from ear to ear as my life was now complete. “So Pinkie. You said you had a party?” I said turning to her. Her happiness exploded out “Heck yes! Let’s paaaarteh!!” She shouted as Pinkie turned on some music. The night was filled with fun and game. Everyone liked Rebecca aswell and she seemed to be ok with the ponies around me.

It’s been 3 years since Rarity came back into my life and it’s been a smooth sailing. Rebecca and I after the first night decided to try going out. It had been forever for both of us so we decided to. Now we were engaged and planning our wedding next year. Rarity now owns her own shop and a small factory where she makes her dresses and is known to be a very desirable fashion designer. She goes back to Ponyville every so often to visit once the wormhole was stabilized and did not cause anymore effects on either world. The other ponies, including Celestia and even Luna decided to use my house as a vacation home and practically live there now. I didn’t mind though. It was always nice to have their company around. Eventually Rainbow and AJ got the old Chevy running and now use it to work on the small farm Applejack started up by the old barn. We even decided to buy it and fix it up. Life was finally going smooth and I was truly happy. I wish my parents could have been here to see my new family. Out of the normal definitions but I didn’t care. It was a family.
