Smoked Salmon

(This is going to be a somewhat of a large announcement, but I want most of you to read it because it explains a few things. First, sorry about how long this took to get out, I was suffering from writers block for this story and I was more focused on my other story. The reason why it took so long, was that I redid it multiple times to get it correct. Second, due note that I didn't like writing this chapter at all. So if dislike this chapter, don't let that make you hate the story... because after this, it's going to get good. Here it is... finally.)

"Good child... good."

"Did you like it daddy!? Did you did you!?"

"Your skill with the power of the storm are... extraordinary, to say the least. We will make a ruler out of you yet."

"W-what do you mean?"

"You my child, will be the most feared creature in all of Equestria. You will bring demise upon all who oppose us. You, are the one who will finish what my grandfather started."

"But-"

"But nothing! This is your destiny, and you will fulfill it! You are a warrior, a hunter, a killer... and you will be nothing else."

"But-"

"WHAT!? Do you think that there is anything else for you in Equestria! Look at yourself... you are a Monster! And you will forever be one."

The sun was slowly rising, when Bolt was awakened from his nightmare. Tears were streaming down his face, each sparkling drop falling upon the plush coat of the cyan pegasus. Her wings were limp, signifying that she was still asleep. Bolt quietly sniffled and wrapped his furry arms around Rainbow Dash's neck. His mind was still filled with the harsh words spoken to him by his cruel father.

He never wished to hurt another living creature, even though it was in his nature to hunt and kill. However, being an omnivore gave Bolt some options to avoid eating meat. Any protein he needed, he obtained from fish or raiding a few eggs from nests. When it was time for him to kill a sentient creature, a young deer in Bolts case, he refused. Bolt remembered his fathers outburst against his unnatural pacifism. This event, is what caused him to be banished by his father. He had no family to turn to anymore... he was an outcast

The painful memories slowly stopped. Bolt then let go of his dear friend, and decided he needed some time alone to think. Quietly, Bolt walked to the door and opened it. A cool breeze hit Bolt as he observed the rising sun. He sighed happily, never before had he seen something so beautiful. He slowly closed the door behind him, and walked away from the library.

It was generally peaceful out as Bolt walked through the silent town. He observed all the colorful buildings that occupied the town, there was an art shop, a diner, and many unattended karts that held a variety of foods. He wasn't surprised that all the food was meant for the ponies that occupied the town, but he wanted something with a bit more, well... protein.

Just then, like a miracle from the great beyond, his nostrils were filled with a smokey aroma. He loudly sniffed at the air around him, trying to pinpoint were the amazing small was originating from. His hunting senses kicked in, causing him stalk... whatever it was. It didn't take long for Bolt to find out where the smell was coming from. He slowly approached a shack that was spurting out black smoke from its chimney. Bolt had to investigate it. He quietly ran behind the shack and looked through a window that was low to the ground.

Inside, was a griffin that was cooking... fish. Bolt started to salivate uncontrollably as he pressed his snout against the window, smudging it. The griffin that was cooking inside, was oblivious to Bolts presence. Bolt's stomach growled, as he smelled the cooking fish. He couldn't take it anymore. He quickly jumped onto the side of the shack, sinking his claws into the old wood that held it together. Swiftly, he climbed his way to the roof of the shanty, giving him access to the smoking chimney.

Bolt didn't like the idea, but it was the quickest way to take the fish without being seen. He approached the smokestack and took a deep breath before entering the small hole. Due to bolts razor sharp claws, he was easily able to make his way down the chimney. After a few moments of sliding, he popped his head out of the bottom of the chimney. He was still firmly gripping the inside of the smokestack, but his head was now sticking out. This secluded position, allowed him to quickly observe his surroundings, without being seen. The griffin was nowhere to be found, and the fish was right below him.

Bolt's eye was on the prize... six, whole salmon, cooking on a pan above an open fire. His hunter senses kicked in, and with one swift motion, he successfully nabbed two of the succulent salmon with his mouth, and made his way back up the chimney.

He quickly made his way out of the chimney and back to the roof top. Bolt was completely covered in soot, proudly holding the spoils of his catch in his mouth. His then heard a loud voice, emit out of the chimney.

"WHAT IN THE NAME OF CELESTIA HAPPENED TO MY FISH!!??" The salmon that Bolt was holding in his mouth, muffled his laughter. And without another word, he jumped off of the roof and safely landed upon the soft grass. He quickly bolted away from the shanty, to find a safe spot to indulge on his fresh catch.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About a mile away from the angry griffin's shack, he had finally stopped at a lake that was surrounded by trees. He set the fish next to him near the lake's shore and laid down. He took a moment to steady his heavy breathing, before sinking his teeth into the smoked salmon. He couldn't believe the flavor that overtook his senses. He detected many different herbs and spices, that complemented the fish perfectly.

Bolt wolfed down both fish effortlessly. And with both fish now gone, he rolled over onto his back and stroked his soot covered belly with his paw. Bolt was still saddened by the memory about being banished by his father, but this helped comfort him a bit. He then realized that he was still completely covered in the black dust from the chimney. He decided that he would take a quick bath in the lake before returning to Twilight's library.

He threw the bones and uneaten remains of the fish into the lake before jumping in himself. He made a large splash when he hit the crystal clear water and sank. He quickly resurfaced and squirted out some water from his mouth. Bolts playful splash didn't go unnoticed, because on the shore, stood three small fillies.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Rainbow calm down!"

"Don't tell me to calm down!" Rainbow Dash was in an absolute frenzy. She was flying back and froth across the library in search for Bolt.

"You need to calm down!" Twilight was standing in the middle of the library, watching her friend fanatically searching for little Bolt. "Where did you see him last?"

Rainbow shouted from Twilights room, "I don't know! Last thing I remember was cuddling with him before I fell asleep!" She then darted down the stairs and landed in front of Twilight.

Twilight could see that her friend was on the verge of tears, "Rainbow..." She placed her hoof on Rainbow's shoulder. "He will be fine, he probably just went out for a walk."

Rainbow sniffled, "I'm not worried about that. I'm worried that he left for good."

"Why? does he really mean that much to you?"

"I don't know why... Im not romantically attracted to him don't think that." Twilight mentally sighed in relief, "but, I really care about him."

"I'll keep an eye out for him. And if he comes back, you will be the first to know."

Rainbow smiled, "Thanks 'Twi'."

"Now, you have a stallion to meet."

"Oh, was that today?"

Twilight gasped, "You seriously forgot!? It's the only thing you have been talking about for weeks."

"It's just a blind date, I really don't care about it anymore."

Twilight shook her head, "You worry me sometimes Rainbow. Now get out there and meet him."

Rainbow sighed and wiped away a single tear, "Fine." She made her way to the door and opened it, "But make sure you tell me immediately when you find him."

"You can count on me."

Rainbow Dash shut the door and took off, heading towards the spot where she was meeting the stallion she was set up with. She was quickly flying towards Ponyville, before she stopped halfway and made a decision. "Screw the date!" She then speed off in a different direction, now in search for Bolt.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bolt was staring at the three fillies that were only slightly smaller than he was. Their returning stare was starting to make him uncomfortable. To brake the stare, Bolt dived and swam away from the curious ponies. He resurfaced near the other side of the lake, he thought for sure that he lost them... but he quickly was proven wrong. When he climbed out of the water and shook all of the loose water off, he was immediately greeted by the same three fillies he saw on the other side of the lake.

The yellow one with a red bow spoke first, "Y'all funny lookin." Bolt growled at the remark.

The orange pegasus looked at the yellow earth pony, "Your kidding me right Apple Bloom?" She then looked at Bolt, "It's like a badflank wolf! Except even cooler!"

The yellow pony observed Bolt, "Ah guess so... whatca name puppy, ah don't' see a color."

Bolt was starting to get annoyed at being talked to like a mutt, "I'm not a dog." The three ponies gasped, "And my names Bolt."

It took a moment for the girls to come to realization. Then the yellow filly spoke, "Well, mah names Apple Bloom," She pointed at the pegasus, "This here is Scootaloo." Then the unicorn, "and this is Sweetie Belle."

Then they all shouted at once, "AND WERE THE CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS!!" The shout caused Bolt to recoil back, landing in the lake again with a huge splash.

He resurfaced, coughing from the water he swallowed. He tried to climbed out on his own, "Why would you do that?"

Scootaloo spoke, "Sorry," she then grabbed Bolts paw with both hooves and quickly pulled him out of the lake. "So what are you?"

Bolt didn't wish to scare the fillies with the details of what he was, so he kept it simple, "Just call me Bolt, thats all you need to know for now."

Scootaloo's didn't listen, her gaze was fixated on something behind him. "W-what are you," There was a loud whistle that came from behind, but before Bolt could turn around, he was suddenly whisked from the ground by a blue blur.

All Bolt could do was scream, as he was being hauled higher and higher into the sky. Bolt ceased his screaming and closed his eyes, whimpering silently in fear. He felt himself being set down on something soft, but before he could react, he was pulled in for a tight hug. He slowly opened his eyes, finding himself being hugged by Rainbow Dash on a cloud.

She sniffled, "I thought I lost you."

"I just went for a little walk Rainbow, you really didn't need to worry about me," Bolt quietly laughed.

Rainbow pulled back a bit, allowing Bolt to look into her eyes... he could see the seriousness in them, "Then don't do that ever again."

He gulped, "I-I'm sorry, I just needed some time alone to think."

Rainbow nuzzled Bolt again, "I'm not mad at you Bolt, I was just afraid that you left without saying goodbye."

"I would never leave my friend without doing that." Bolt started to silently cry, never before had he felt so loved.

The two friends remained on the cloud for, what felt like hours. The suns position in the sky, signified that it was noon. "Ok squirt," She loosed her hug a bit to look at Bolt, "Now I have a question to ask you. Now that I canceled on my date, would you like to come with me to the Wonderbolts Derby in Cloudsdale?"

Bolt smiled and started to wag his tail, "I would love to... but who are the Wonderbolts?"

"Your kidding me? there only the best flying group in all of Equestria, and I have two tickets for the show!"

"They sound awesome. When is it?"

"On Saturday, three days from now."

"I can't wait. But can we get of the cloud now?"

"Oh... oh ya I forgot that we were up here." Rainbow Dash placed Bolt on her back, "Now hold on tight, you have a party to go to,"

"Ok... wait a party?" She then jumped off the cloud, and flew back to Ponyville.

(I really hope you like this chapter, but like I said before, I had very mixed feeling about this chapter. So don't dislike this story if you didn't like this chapter, because it's going to get good. And lets just say that the Wonderbolts Derby isn't going to be very eventful. The next chapter will be coming out tomorrow or Saturday)
