Books and Wings

Date Night

It had been just one day since Bubble Berry's party. Blitz had taken the time to help Spines take the decorations down and tidy up. It wasn't a super crazy party or anything, but there was still cleaning to be done. Rainbow did most of the hanging things (mostly since Dusk still couldn't use magic) while Spines took ground patrol.

They now sat in Dusk's bedroom, playing a 3-player game of commander. Spines loved her dragon tribal deck, and had good reason to, considering how many times he savagely beat his adversaries. Dusk, like his standard deck, played a simple, fun Melek burn deck.

Blitz, on the other hand, wasn't having much fun at all. As good as he thought his deck was, he just couldn't seem to draw any reanimator spells, much less board wipe. "Dang it! That's five games I'm out first."

Dusk just leaned over and kissed his colt friend. "You're so cute when you're mad."

Blitz folded his arms and pouted. "I am not cute!"

Dusk couldn't help but laugh. "You're not helping your case. Just admit it. It's one of the things I love about you."

Blitz let a smile creep onto his face. If there was anything he loved more than the pony next to him, it was his smile. To him, it was a contagious thing the lit up the world and spread happiness to all that saw it.

He was brought out of his daze when his colt friend asked, "So, when are we gonna go on a date?"

The look on his face was one of pure shock. He hadn't expected it so soon. "Well... Maybe... How about..." He babbled tripping over his own words until he was finally stopped by hoof in his mouth.

"I'll start then. How about tomorrow at 7?" Blitz just nodded. "Ok. See you tomorrow then." He said as Blitz let himself out.

And I thought I was the brave one. He thought leaving the library and taking off towards his house in the sky.

It was the night of his first date with Blitz, and his heart was racing. He figured he should dress formal, but now he was having second thoughts. He wore his tux Elusive made him for the Gala. Subtle but elegant, as the pearly white stallion had always said. When he finally opened the door to reveal Blitz, he was greatly relieved that his friend had had the same thought process as him.

They walked out from the library onto the main road. "So, where do you wanna go? You asked me so I figured you'd have a plan." Blitz asked

"Actually, I hadn't thought that far ahead. I was a bit worried about how I looked."

"Well you shouldn't." Blitz said laying his wing over Dusk's back. "You truly do look amazing." Dusk just blushed. "Hey, why don't we go over to Lyre and Bon Bon's place?"

"Isn't it a candy shop?"

"We're grown ups now. No pony's to tell us we can't have desert first."

"I guess that's true."

There was an air of calmness in the sweets shop. Lyre played his lyre for any pony who happened to walk in. Bon Bon was straightening the candies in the display case, not having anything better to do. They all smelt so delicious that he could hardly resist taking a few. The door bell stopped him from giving into temptation.

"Hello! Welcome to my sweet shop." He started his normal routine and stopped when he looked up and saw a couple of his friends, one's wing draped over the other's mid section. "Oh my god! You two are together? You guys look so cute."

The pair blushed as Lyre, who had stopped playing, came up from behind them. "Hey guys. Nice to see there's another couple like us around."

Dusk tilted his head, unknowing. Finally, Blitz had to explain. "They're together, too. He means another guy couple. An "o" formed on Dusk's mouth as he finall understood.

"Yeah. Most guys are too afraid to make it public. I kind of get they have some kind of reputation to uphold or what ever. So, how'd you guys get together?"

"You mind if we get some candy and sit down? We haven't eaten yet." Blitz said.

"Sure, I'll ring you up." Bon Bon said as they all trotted over to the register.

"So mostly we've just been hanging out, talking, got a couple walks in for some fresh air. We were just going out for our first real date." It felt nice for Blitz to just let loose and talk. He'd been really nervous while his friend was unconscious.

"Well great for you guys! We'll let you guys go then. It's nice to know there are more ponies in Ponyville who are kinda like us." Bon Bon said

"Yeah. You guys have a good time." Lyre called as they walked out. "We're always open to talk if you need, too."

"Thanks guys." She said over her shoulder. "We should go on a double date sometime."

"Sounds like a plan." The both said simultaneously and then laughed.

They walked down the street after having dinner, Dusk leaning on Blitz for support. They had lost track of time, and now payed for it in grogginess. They had been lost in each other's tales of stuff they had done.

Blitz could have listened forever if he didn't have to sleep. The voice of his partner was like angel calling him to heaven and bringing him nearly into Dusk's body in the stories he told. And he certainly had a lot of them, considering he was the prince's protégée.

Suddenly, he heard Dusk whisper in his ear. "Do you want to stay over at my place?" He asked.

Blitz instantly blushed. He knew what Dusk meant, but, for some reason, couldn't stop it. "S-sure." He stammered, then kissed Dusk on the forehead.

By time they reached the library, Spines had gone to sleep. They silently tiptoed up the stairs to Dusk's bedroom. They got under the covers, and Dusk took Blitz in his embrace not wanting to ever let go. "I love you" he whispered and kissed Blitz. Both closed their eyes and drifted into their own worlds, not too far from the other though.
