Why the Moon Rises blue

by TheLoveless

It sets blue, because of you.

Pulling Spike up the darkened sloping hill just beyond Apple Acres, she turned back, making sure her ‘friend’ was on her tail. Stumbling in the dark, and falling to open claws, he was right on her tail. “Hurry up, Spike!” The filly called back to the barely visible dragon, hoping he’d hurry up, “we’re gonna miss it!” Pulling through the clearing of bushes and too tall trees, she stopped and viewed the moon, with all its glorious assistance on said night.

Not long after, Spike made his way through the bushes, and tripped over a red mane, landing face first in a pile of dirt. “What did you want me to see?” Pushing himself out of the dirt and trying to find the filly he chased after, she answered his call with a redirection to the moon. Awestruck, he viewed the glorious glow of the majestic rock in the sky.

Far off, the moon, as mysterious and wonderful as it was, crept its way over the hills, just barely making itself visible. The near siting mountains shared in its illuminating light, letting its light fill their peaks with blue sprites, dancing on the peaks with every passing minute. Along with the wondrous lights of bright colored sprites on the far off hills, the Moon, with all its glory and might, shone blue. Every crevice, uprise, and surface shown its very own illusionary color, allowing the earth to share it’s joyous light. Waters grew blue, and the cold floor of Ponyville’s streets grew darker, and more colorful than ever. Even the green leaves of the near standing acres enjoyed its embrace, shining of a bright teal, and a dark purple.

“Spike,” getting the almost undivided attention of her love, she smiled, and pressed on. “Do you know why the moon rises blue?” Getting a confused look from her companion, she smiled. Everything was going according to plan. “The moon rises blue,” stopping and looking back at her hard work, she smiled, “Because of you.” Pressing her lips against the scales of his cheek, she smiled, and hoped for a kiss in return.

“Hi Luna!” Jumping into the mares arms, she landed a hug on the alicorn, getting a hug back, “can you help me?” Pushing her head into luna’s chest, she tried her best to nuzzle Luna.

Returning her grip on the filly, she smiled, and allowed Apple Bloom her strange nuzzling. “What can i help you with? History? Magic? Time travel, again?” Enjoying their last trip to the founding of Zap Apples, she wouldn’t mind doing it again. “What ever it is, i’m sure i can help yo-.”

“Love.” Stopping Luna in her tracks, she looked up at princess. “Can you help me? I just need something simple.” Discouraging Luna once again, she smiled, “Pwease?”

Failing to resist the adorable, ‘please’, she continued with her assistance of the filly, “i guess so, but what did you have in mind? I can’t use magic, or make fake love for you.” Deep down, they both knew she could, but she didn’t want to. “Do you want anything special? Flowers, or a cute bow?” Picturing the adorable filly in a even cuter bow, she had already picked a color for her friend. A sweet cyan bow, with a dark purple rose.

Getting denied her happiness of a cute filly in an even cuter outfit, she was disappointed. “Can you make the moon glow blue tonight?” Hoping she would color the moon for her, she smiled and hugged luna once more, for luck. “It’s for somepony special, and i’d really like to see a blue moon.” Getting a sincere nod from the alicorn she rest upon, she smiled, and heightened her already tight grip on the mare. “Thank you!!!” Hopping of the mare, and rushing towards the door, she was happy as could almost be.

Getting a door slammed in her face, and a blue sparkling magic turning her around, Luna smiled at the filly’s overjoyed face, “who are we doing this for? I wouldn’t like wasting a night like tonight on someone who isn’t worthy.” Overprotective as she was, she didn’t mind any pony being her Special Somepony. “Please tell me dear. Who is this pony?”

Blushing at the thought of her dragon friends name, she tried to cover it, but she was tied down, “Spike, Twilight’s assistant.” The blush had taken over her soft, now rosy, cheeks. Filling her with warmth, and butterflies. “Can i go now? I need to get ready!” Getting placed on the floor, and sent out running, she was on her way to being the happiest mare in the cutie mark crusaders.

Taken in the sweetness of Apple Bloom, he fell back, and watched the moon with its splendid glow. ‘She made the moon glow blue because of me.’ Still stunned at the amazing sight before him, he took a glance at the moon once more, before returning his attention to the young filly before him. “And this is because of you.” Kissing the cheek of Apple Bloom, he watched her yellow cheeks fade to a bright pink. “You didn’t have to make the moon blue for me, you just needed to win my heart.” Hugging the delicate filly, he looked up at the moon’s glorious blue color, and the mountain peaks luminous glow. ‘All because of me.’

Still love struck, she waited in the arms of the dragon, limp as a string, and yet as soft hearted as always. Letting spike take her into his arms, she was jealous. Wanting to do the same thing to spike. Trying her best to raise her arms, and wrap them around her love, she couldn’t. Too weak from being overjoyed and loved by Spike, she couldn’t bring herself to it. not even for Spike.

“Everypony needs to feel loved,” from beyond the tree line, a mare of great powers did her job of helping Apple Bloom. With gentle tugs from a magical force, Apple Bloom’s arms were raised, and her hooves, placed on each of Spike’s shoulders. “Even if they need a little push.” Walking back into the trees, the mare was gone, and the moon let out one last howl of light. Landing gracefully on lavender scales, and yellow fur. Dancing off scales and coloring fur, the light shined as bright as their shared love.

“You’re the reason I’d like a blue moon; they are one of a kind, just like you.” Slipping through Spike’s arms, the filly laid on the floor, exhausted, and ready for bed.

“And you’re the reason I love you.”
