Burt came back to his truck, entering it and putting it to full speed.
"Hey guys wat-" Burt started to say, only to see all his men, or what's left of it. He checked all around him, seeing nothing but trees. He checked his hood only to see that it had been ripped to shreds. Burt had only one option, gallop back to Ponyville. Burt ran and ran, keeping his weapon close. He saw another pony and saw that it was a survivor who sprayed himself with a fire extinguisher. Burt ran up to him only to see he was losing a foreleg, his right one to be exact.
"Shining Armor, what happened?" asked Burt.
"W-w-w-we were h-h-h-heading out to Ponyville. We w-w-w-were waiting on you. And then ... the screaming. The horrible screaming. They were everywhere, we tried to shoot em but they were fast. I-i-i-i remembered you saying ... don't let them see your body heat, conceal your body heat so ... I sprayed the others and myself. The others were careless and they foolishly showed their body heat. I sprayed myself some more. It wasn't fully effective. Tell Cadence, Twilight, mum and dad that I love them." answered Shining Armor before he fell, dead on the cold ground.
Burt couldn't believe it. He cautiously approached Ponyville. The Shriekers were hunting whatever gave off heat. The ruthless beasts were eating everything in their path, one actually stayed behind to see if it got everything. Burt stopped in hid tracks as he was 5 feet away from a Shrieker. The beast didn't notice Burt so he got the upper hand and shot the beast to its demise. The rest of the time was like a maze, trying to find prey and not be seen. Now Burt and the Shriekers went opposite ways. They were so close to a destination. The Shriekers found so much heat that it was a buffet ... of manticores. Burt made it to Ponyville and warned them of the beasts.
"So none of them made it back?" asked Twilight, looking sad. Burt just shook his head.
"Your brother also said that he loved you, Cadence, and his folks before he died." said Burt.
Twilight was now in tears, morning for her bbbff. Then a chorus of Shrieking was heard from where Burt had come from. It sounded like 20-30 Shriekers. The ponies were ready and at their stations. Burt had his gun aimed, and Twilight had her own weapon pointing at the area of heard shrieking. This was gonna be a noisy night.
