Three Little Diamonds

Good Days

It had been 5 months since Rarity joined my life and it was amazing. All the trees were now bare as winter had set in and snow covered everything. Rumors had started up that the land would be sold to a big company and would be leveled to put a factory. I guess it would be good for the town. Might be what we need to save it but nothing was set in stone. In the past few months I had started watching My Little Pony again to learn everything I could. I began working with her to teach her how to talk and with the help of a few language programs and my tutoring she had picked up English in no time at all. She even started to call me daddy which made me feel warm on the inside as I had begun to think of her as my daughter. We also worked with her magic. I thought it was strange how she could use her magic on Earth as we have no real magic here. I assumed it was a symptom of whatever brought her here or a connection she may have to her world. Since she was learning everything so fast I had started going to the park down the street from my house as a reward. It was nice to get out and have some fun. Due to the cold weather I went downtown to a small clothing shop for kids and bought Rarity a jacket, scarf, hat, and 2 pairs of boots to try and keep her warm. I knew they had snow back in Equestria but I wanted to be sure Rarity wouldn’t catch a cold. One day I was sitting on an old bench and watched Rarity play in the snow.

"Stay within my sight. I want you to be safe" I warned her but as all kids she was curious and explored the nearby woods and houses.

One house in particular caught her attention. The two level house sat just on the other side of the fence to the park, the wall was completely gone since a fire had burned through from the kitchen causing the second floor to collapse scattering items from the house all over that the owners never bothered to collect. Rarity picked through the debris and found herself a small jewelry box. She opened it slowly to find inside shiny jewels and trinkets tucked safely inside. Her eyes glistened as she looked over them.

After a few minutes I hadn’t noticed Rarity and wondered where she had gotten off to. Suddenly I stood up and looked to see her bolting across the soccer field with a worried look on her face

“Daddy look what I got!!!” She shouted as she nearly tackled me to the ground in a slight panic.

I looked to her concerned and noticed a gold bracelet on her right for leg.

“Where did you get that?” I asked her quickly.

“Oh I found it but that’s not the point look at this!” She said quickly she pointed to her flank. “I got this when I found this old box full of gems and bracelets.” She said as I looked at her flank to see it was no longer blank. Her cutiemark which was the three diamonds had finally appeared. “What does it mean daddy?! Should I be worried!?!” She said frantically. I laughed a little as she glared at me. I couldn’t believe that she had gotten her cutiemarks so soon. I sat down on the bench and patted at the open seat next to me. She quickly sat down waiting for me to answer.

“That mark on your flank.” I said pointing to it “That is a very good thing.” I said as her worry went away and excitement replaced it.

I told her all about what cutiemarks were and how ponies get them and why. She excitedly jumped up and down hearing on what it was. The skies had begun to get dark as I check my watch. It was almost 4:30 which meant the night would soon be here. We decided to head for home, Rarity bouncing the whole way. While on the walk I had decided to pick up a cake to celebrate the event. We got home just before the snow started to fall and the sky grew dark. I placed the cake down on the coffee table and removed Rarity’s jacket along with my own. Rarity had gone out to the kitchen as I hung up the jacket and grabbed a cake cutter. We unwrapped the cake and cut in, giving her the first and biggest piece. We began to eat happily. Rarity got a little cake on her face. I thought it was the perfect time to snap a picture for our album. Her disapproval of the idea was soon overcome by my ambition.

As we both began to get sleepy a few hours later we decided to head off to bed. We both headed to Rarity’s room. About a month ago I had finally got my old room cleared and painted the walls a light shade of purple. We’d also replaced the shag carpet with a thin white carpet and bought her a brand new bed, desk, computer, and dresser which were all an off shade of white. She climbed into her bed and I tucked her in and read her a short story to help her sleep. As I got up to head out she turned to me and said

“I love you.” and smiled.

I must admit that it had caught me off guard. It was the first time she had ever said I love you. It was also the first time someone else had ever said that since my parents. I felt my heart melt into a puddle and a smile came over my face. I knelled down and kissed her forehead

“I love you to.” I said to her before I got up and walked to the door.

I turned one last time and wished her a good night before turning off the light and closing the door. I walked into my room and laid down in my bed pulling the blankets over me.

“She said I love you” I thought to myself as I felt a warm and fuzzy feeling come over my body.

I closed my eyes, happier then I had ever been in the last few months. I was even happier than the first time I had found her. I eventually drifted off to sleep.
