Chapter 2: Visions of the Heart

Alright then… here is chapter two for you all to enjoy. Two things I want to mention before getting started here: the first is that I will be returning back to my original method of typing up chapters which was using Microsoft Word and not directly on Fimfiction. The second is that this is the first chapter where I finally have an editor to assist me. I would like to thank DiscoGuy for helping me make these chapters a little more readable for you all. So… without further ado, I present chapter 2.

Chapter 2: Visions of the Heart

Moonglow Forest: Present Time
The voice was silent as Trixie continued to stare into the calming waters. Their blue waters mixed with a silver sheen coming from the moon appear to move and flow in the tide even though logic stated that there should have been no tide at all. Trixie was so lost in its eerie glow that she failed to sense a sudden flow of magic circling around the clearing.
As Trixie continued to stare into the lake, she started to see an image appear upon the surface of the lake. She let out a mild gasp of surprise, and part of her wanted to look away from the image but the lake had already assumed control over the unicorn’s mind and body, keeping the boastful unicorn in place as it shifted through her memories, thoughts, dreams, and most of all her desires. These desires are what fueled the lake’s power, and it was already beginning the first step.
As time slowly passed on, Trixie saw the image appear clearer and clearer until she was looking at a mirror image of herself. However, what she saw caused a gasp of wonder to escape her mouth. The vision Trixie was sitting in what appeared to be a dressing room. She was applying what appeared to be stage makeup with her magic. The real Trixie noticed that her cape and hat were located on a mannequin. She also noticed that they appeared freshly pressed and clean, and were adorned with various new gems that made the overall outfit shine and dazzle under the florescent light. It was then that a single knock sounded on the door, and a voice replied “Curtain in five Miss Trixie.”
The reflected Trixie didn’t respond except for a slight humph. She finished putting on the last of the stage make-up, and said to herself in the mirror, “Showtime Trixie.” The dream Trixie got off of the chair she was in and made her way to the door, putting on her cape and hat with no more than a flash of magic.
The vision became slightly foggy for a moment before clearing up to reveal the reflection Trixie was on a stage. However, the real Trixie was surprised to find that it was in fact the stage of the world famous Canterlot Theater. It was the stage where the best of the best of the best would have given their left front hoof to be able to perform. Yet, she saw herself on that stage, appealing to an audience equal to that of all of Canterlot. Even the two regal Princesses were attending, located in their private booths. The real Trixie watched in awe as her reflected counterpart was performing feat after feat that amazed both the vision crowd and herself. It was doing tricks she didn’t even know existed.
The real Trixie was oblivious to how long she was watching her own magical act as she was overcome with the cheering of the crowd and the joyful energy that she felt when performing. She no longer saw the reflected Trixie but, rather started to believe that she was there herself, performing these wonderful tricks in the most highly praised stage imaginable. She was the center of attention, the focus of everyponies’ attention. She was the star of the show.
And yet… there was something missing. Trixie was unsure as to where this strange sensation was coming from, but for some odd reason this dream of hers felt… incomplete. There was a sense of emptiness in her chest the likes of which she had never felt before, and she felt as if she needed to take a closer look at the crowd that was there watching, though she was unsure why. Still, she felt the need to humor herself a bit and started to scan the crowd. As her gaze swept across the crowd, basking in their cheering and the applauding, her eyes lingered on one seat that was occupied by the one pony she thought she would never see again.
It was the purple unicorn from Ponyville. She was the only pony out there who wasn’t cheering for Trixie but instead was merely sitting there with a small smile on her face and a rather blissful, or playful look in her eyes.
Before Trixie could form a reason as to why she was there, the entire crowd went silent and she watched as the crowd and the stage started to fracture and disappear. Trixie tried to remain on solid ground but she eventually felt the floor give way under her, and she started falling into an abyss. Trixie was unsure if she was screaming or not as there were no words coming out of her mouth. She closed her eyes, waiting for the sudden jolt that she feared was coming.
It never happened. Instead, she felt something wrapped around her body as well as hearing the quiet crackling of a well-maintain fireplace. Slowly, Trixie opened her eyes and saw the fireplace in front of her and the warm blanket wrapped around her body. She had no idea how she got here, but it didn’t matter to her now. She felt warm and safe for the moment and that was all that mattered to her at that moment. Trixie almost dozed off again before she heard the sound of a door opening and closing. Slowly, she turned her head, and her eyes widened in surprise.
It was that purple unicorn from the stage. However, she was now carrying two cups in her magical grip and her eyes had a motherly look to them that Trixie took comfort in. With care, the purple unicorn placed one of the cups in front of Trixie and she saw that the contents were in fact hot chocolate. It was then that the purple unicorn said, “I’m sorry Trixie but we seem to be out of mini marshmallows, and I know how much you like them with your coco.” Her eyes showed a hint of sadness that just seemed to melt Trixie’s heart. Trixie took a small sip of her hot chocolate, letting the warm liquid flow through her chest. Already, it was warming her up on the inside and she felt even more comfortable then she already was. She took another sip and replied “The coco is fine Twilight. Just being able to spend this night with you is enough for me.”
Trixie’s eyes widen when she realized what she had just said and the fact that she called the purple unicorn Twilight. Of course she knew that was the purple unicorn’s name, but she had insisted on calling her that in an effort to forget the events of the past. She looked back over at Twilight and saw that blasted, adorable smile on her face as she replied, “I’m glad to be able to spend the night with you too Trixie. You’ve been gone for so long that I was starting to get a little worried.”
Trixie felt her heart warm up from the fact that Twilight was worried, and wondered what she had done to make her worry, before realizing why she was even caring that Twilight was worried. Trixie’s mind and heart were a mess as her rational hatred for the purple unicorn was fighting against another emotion that wanted to be let know. Despite this internal conflict, she heard her voice say “You know Twilight. I’m starting to think that it might be time for me to settle down. Give up this traveling showpony business and stay here with you.”
That set off major red flags in Trixie’s mind. Why would she even say such a thing? Being a showmare was what made her…her. She lived for the stage, to hear the crowds cheering her on as she performed tricks of wonder. More importantly, why would she even consider living with Twilight in the first place? She hated that unicorn for ruining her reputation and for upstaging her. She hated that adorable smile she has, the stupid, beautiful way her mane had that pink strip and the blasted, unfair, awe-inspiring, magical power that she had.
Twilight gently placed one of her hooves on top of Trixie during her silent monologue. That simple touch seemed to freeze every thought in her mind and focus them all on the new sensation she was feeling. Her coat was so soft and smooth like silk, and Trixie was feeling a sudden desire to feel more of Twilight’s coat against her. She wanted this annoying, blasted, beautiful, amazing, mare to be as close to her as possible. Twilight must have been reading her thoughts because Trixie saw her muzzle move closer to her own, the space between them mere millimeters. Trixie saw Twilight’s eyes flutter a bit and her voice seem to drop an octave as she replied “You don’t know how happy I am to hear that, Trix.”
Trixie ears perked up at the sound of that nickname. She liked it when Twilight called her that. It made her heart flutter as well. She then felt the distance between their mouths becoming shorter and shorter. Trixie was unsure whether she should feel shock that Twilight was trying to kiss her, or eager to feel the purple unicorn’s sweet lips on her own.
However, like before, the dreamscape seemed to fracture upon itself and Trixie found herself back sitting on the shore of the lake. She was still starring at the water, but now she saw that there was a new glow to it. With great effort, she tore her vision from the lake and looked up at the sky to see that the moon was no longer there, but was now replaced by the golden rays of the sun. Trixie had no idea how long she had been looking at the lake or what had happened. She wanted to think on it further but a sudden growl of her stomach reminded her of other more important things she needed to take care of. Slowly, she got back up on her hooves and made her way into the forest to find something to eat. She never noticed the pair of cyan eyes watching her from across the lake.
I am really glad that you all are enjoying the story so far and I really hope that I managed to keep you all interested. Once again I would like to thank DiscoGuy for helping me with editing. I will see you all in the next chapter.
