Episode 10: Sleepover

Burst let a sigh escape his lips as he stared at the ceiling. It was Friday. The weekend was tomorrow. And he was bored out of his mind. Hmm. Being a team is fine and all. But that can't be the only time we ever see each other. Sure, we've hung out a few other times. But we really don't know much about each other save for Ace. And even then, he only told us his backstory. Burst slowly smiled as he whipped out his phone. Time to fix that... Burst thought to himself as he texted Inferno, Ace, and Steel. About half an hour later, Burst heard some knocking on his door. He smiled upon opening it. "Hey guys! I see you got my message."

"Came as soon as we got it Burst." Inferno answered with a nod. "Though I gotta ask why you had us bring over sleeping bags. What's going on?"

Burst smiled. "We've only hung out a bit, and we don't really know each other that well. Being a team is good, but I want us to be more than that." He then scratched his head. "I...never really had a lot of friends when I was a kid. So I never really got the chance to get close with people besides my parents. And even since I've moved here, I only have a handful of friends. Now here we are fighting beside each other. Risking our lives to protect others. I barely know anything about you guys, but I feel like we're meant to be friends. I just thought a sleepover might be the best option for us to get to know each other."

"I won't lie. Hearing you say that is news to us." Ace noted. "But I won't lie. All of you, pardon the ice pun, seem like pretty cool guys." Ace then clapped his hands together. "So I'll be the first to break the ice. I'm a HUGE fan of slice of life anime, and a sucker for cute anime girls. I'm a bit of a bookworm, and have been looking into monsters and magical items should we come across any in our battle."

Inferno chuckled. "Well, I guess it's my turn. I was the most well-known rockstar in Unity. Some of you are probably familiar with my work."

"I was wondering what you were doing in a small town like this." Steel said with a nod. "You've got a life that most people would give anything to have. So why walk away from the spotlight?"

Inferno sighed. "That's the exact reason why I walked away. I was just happy performing and making people happy with my music. But that spotlight? It's cast from a magnifying glass. Your whole life is under constant observation. One little slip up, and it's a huge blow for your image. Rock's already got plenty of negative stereotypes of out of control partying. Something my dad told me about during his days on stage. And then there's the exhausting schedule you have. So many shows to perform, so many locations. It just so, exhausting." Inferno threw himself onto the couch. "And I really needed a break from it all. So I figured a little escape to Unityville was in order." He then smirked. "If only I know how much more an exciting life I'd find here." Inferno's mind then drifted to Rarity. And a girl who pours as much passion into her craft as I do mine.

"Well, there's not really that much to say about myself." Steel began. "I was hand-picked by Princess Celestia to be captain of the Elite Guard. I spent most of my life with those under my command and growing close with them." Steel then looked to the other Elements of Heroism, and a smile crept across his face. "Fighting alongside you all of you kinda reminds me of those days. The main difference being you guys are a good match against me." Steel then blushed lightly. "Of course, Rainbow Dash is a girl that could kick my ass. I like that about her."

Burst chuckled at hearing this. "Well, I guess it's time to tell you all my story. It begins when I was about seven years old. One story I always had my parents read was The Legend of the Two Sisters. But I soon realized, it wasn't a story. It was a cover for Princess Celestia being forced to banish her own sister for the good of Unity. And I couldn't stand to see something so sad happen. So I made a promise. I'd give the sad story a happy ending. Even if it meant facing off against Nightmare Moon herself." Burst smiled at the memory. "If only I'd known what I was getting into, I would've made that promise sooner. Fast forward seven years, and my dad, an Avatar, tells me about Nightmare Moon's return. I went through seven years of training so I could at least hold my own against her. I think you can all piece together where that led. And now, here we are."

"Whoa. You take the phrase 'man of your word' to the next level." Inferno said in shock before smiling. "I bet Princess Celestia has quite the reward in mind for a big hero like you." Burst blushed at hearing this, and the other guys shared a laugh! "But seriously dude. I bet Princess Celestia's got a whole lot of thanks to give you."

Burst shook his head to try and shake of any feelings of embarrassment. "If anything, that thanks is Twilight and the girls. But moving on, any of you play Super Smash Bros.?" All of the guys' eyes lit up at hearing the game mentioned. "Well then. Game on!" And with that, the guys set about having a Smash Bros. free-for-all. Needless to say, the four had a blast beating the snot out of each other with their favorite Nintendo characters.

"Hey, Burst?" Ace asked. "Why do you main Samus so much?"

Burst shrugged. "Metroid is one of my favorite Nintendo series. Plus, Samus is one of my favorite videogame characters. Like Steel, I got a thing for strong women. Runs in my dad's side of the family."

"Okay. Now I REALLY ship you with Celestia." Inferno said with a smirk. He then went back to the screen. "Wait. Who got the smash ball?"

Steel chuckled. "That would be me. NOW PREPARE FOR OWNAGE AT THE HANDS OF META KNIGHT!" The others groaned in frustration as they were beaten at the hands of the most broken character in the game. "So. What's next on the list?" Steel froze when all the guys were giving him evil looks and holding pillows. "Uh...guys?"

"PILLOW WARRRR!" Burst screamed as he slapped Steel across the face with his pillow! And from that, ten glorious minutes of chaos erupted forth from the battle cry. And all the guys lay on the floor exhausted. Their stomachs soon grumbling. "Nothing like gaming and a good roughhousing to build up an appetite." Burst then got up, and pulled out his phone. "Hope you guys don't mind pizza. Any toppings you want in specific?" Most of the guys just shrugged. "Pepperoni it is then." Burst placed the order, and put on a movie while he and the guys waited for the delivery. It came soon enough, and they cracked open a few bottles of root beer. "Well, I think it's safe to say this bonding paid off. We really gotta do this more. But right now, I'm happy to call you all my friends. Here's to our new crazy lives, and to any future friends we'll make along the way!" The night soon drew to a close not long after, and Burst stared at the ceiling in thought. Maybe getting close to Princess Celestia wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. Burst thought with a smile as he drifted off to sleep. She does make the world a brighter place...
